Three psychrophilic bacteria, designated as strains SQ149T, SQ345T, and S1-1T, were isolated from deep-sea sediment from the South China Sea. All three strains were the most closely related to Thalassotalea atypica RZG4-3-1T based on the 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis (similarity ranged from 96.45 to 96.67 %). Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene and core-genome sequences showed that three strains formed a cluster within the genus Thalassotalea. The average amino acid identity, average nucleotide identity, and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values among the three strains and closest Thalassotalea species were far below the cut-off value recommended for delineating species, indicating they each represented a novel species. All three strains were Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, and contained summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c) as the predominant fatty acid, Q-8 as the major respiratory quinone, and phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol as predominant polar lipids. Based on the genomic, phylogenetic, and phenotypic characterizations, each strain is considered to represent a novel species within the genus Thalassotalea, for which the names Thalassotalea psychrophila sp. nov. (type strain SQ149T=MCCC 1K04231T=JCM 33807T), Thalassotalea nanhaiensis sp. nov. (type strain SQ345T=MCCC 1K04232T=JCM 33808T), and Thalassotalea fonticola sp. nov. (type strain S1-1T=MCCC 1K06879T=JCM 34824T) are proposed.

This study investigated the associations between gestational weight gain (GWG), pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI), and prenatal diet quality in pregnant women from Shandong, China. We analyzed a sample of 532 early-stage pregnant women registered at an outpatient clinic. Diet quality was evaluated using the Chinese Healthy Dietary Index for Pregnancy (CHDI-P), encompassing three dimensions: diversity, adequacy, and limitation, with an overall score out of 100. Dietary intake was documented via 24-h dietary recalls spanning three consecutive days and subsequently translated to a CHDI-P score. At the time of enrollment, BMI was measured on-site and classified as underweight (<18.5), normal weight (18.5-24.9), overweight (25.0-29.9), and obese (≥30.0). Pregnant women were also categorized into inadequate, adequate, and excessive weight gain groups based on their GWG. We employed a Tukey-adjusted generalized linear model to compare the CHDI-P scores between the pre-pregnancy BMI groups and GWG groups. The results revealed that the underweight group had significantly higher total scores and limitation total scores on the CHDI-P (p < 0.001). Conversely, the overweight and obese groups were more susceptible to suboptimal dietary quality. Notably, the inadequate weight gain group displayed significantly elevated food adequacy scores compared to the other two groups (p < 0.05). This indicates that greater GWGs do not necessarily align with principles of adequate nutrition.

OBJECTIVE: Estrogen and progesterone play key roles in the maintenance of pregnancy, and their function is mediated via estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1)/estrogen receptor 2 (ESR2) and progesterone receptor (PGR), respectively. It has been suggested the genetic variations in ESR1, ESR2, and PGR may contribute to recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL); however, the available evidence remains controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to explore the relation of various polymorphisms in ESR1, ESR2, and PGR genes to the risk of RPL. METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed and Scopus up to August 2023 to obtain relevant studies. The odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were computed and pooled with the use of random-effects models to test the associations. RESULTS: A total of 31 studies with 12 different polymorphisms, including 5 polymorphisms for ESR1, 3 polymorphisms for ESR2, and 4 polymorphisms for PGR, were analyzed in this meta-analysis. Overall, no significant relationship was found between various polymorphisms of ESR1 and ESR2 with RPL in any of the genetic analysis models. PGR rs590688 (C > G) polymorphism was significantly related to the elevated risk of RPL under the dominant (OR = 1.67; 95 %CI: 1.15-2.44), allelic (OR = 1.55; 95 %CI: 1.13-2.12), and GC vs. CC (OR = 1.55; 95 %CI: 1.07-2.23) models. No significant association was identified for other variants of PGR gene. CONCLUSION: Unlike estrogen receptors, variations in PGR rs590688 (C > G) may be linked to the increased risk of RPL. More studies are required to confirm this finding.

Adenomyosis is a pathological gynaecological condition characterized by benign invasion of the endometrium into the myometrium. High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is one of the most common therapeutic strategies for the treatment of adenomyosis. However, the efficacy of single HIFU therapy is insufficient for the treatment of patients with adenomyosis. In the present study, the efficacy of HIFU and metformin for the treatment of adenomyosis was analyzed in 274 patients with adenomyosis who were admitted to Jinan Maternity and Child Care Hospital. The results demonstrated that there was a significant reduction in menstrual flow and pain between patients who received HIFU and metformin, and those who received single HIFU treatment (P<0.01). Furthermore, the outcomes demonstrated that inflammatory cytokines levels were significantly lower compared with the baseline values (P<0.01). In conclusion, the outcomes of the current study indicate that combined HIFU and metformin treatment is more efficacious in patients with enlarged adenomyosis compared with single HIFU treatment.

Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) has been widely used in various scenarios of power transformers' online monitoring and diagnoses. However, the diagnostic accuracy of traditional DGA methods still leaves much room for improvement. In this context, numerous new DGA diagnostic models that combine artificial intelligence with traditional methods have emerged. In this paper, a new DGA artificial intelligent diagnostic system is proposed. There are two modules that make up the diagnosis system. The two modules are the optimal feature combination (OFC) selection module based on 3-stage GA⁻SA⁻SVM and the ABC⁻SVM fault diagnosis module. The diagnosis system has been completely realized and embodied in its outstanding performances in diagnostic accuracy, reliability, and efficiency. Comparing the result with other artificial intelligence diagnostic methods, the new diagnostic system proposed in this paper performed superiorly.

The distribution of water in the Earth's interior reflects the way in which the Earth has evolved, and has an important influence on its material properties. Minerals in the transition zone of the Earth's mantle (from approximately 410 to approximately 660 km depth) have large water solubility, and hence it is thought that the transition zone might act as a water reservoir. When the water content of the transition zone exceeds a critical value, upwelling flow might result in partial melting at approximately 410 km, which would affect the distribution of certain elements in the Earth. However, the amount of water in the transition zone has remained unknown. Here we determined the effects of water and temperature on the electrical conductivity of the minerals wadsleyite and ringwoodite to infer the water content of the transition zone. We find that the electrical conductivity of these minerals depends strongly on water content but only weakly on temperature. By comparing these results with geophysically inferred conductivity, we infer that the water content in the mantle transition zone varies regionally, but that its value in the Pacific is estimated to be approximately 0.1-0.2 wt%. These values significantly exceed the estimated critical water content in the upper mantle, suggesting that partial melting may indeed occur at approximately 410 km depth, at least in this region.
