AIMS: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is characterized by the up-regulation of pro-inflammatory mediators, apoptotic signals, and oxidative stress that can lead to an increased risk of colorectal cancer. The present study aims to investigate the possible role of myristicin in modulating endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and risk-associated conditions in acetic acid (AA)-induced UC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Adult male rats were treated with 150 mg/kg body weight of myristicin or mesalazine orally either as pre/post treatment or post-treatment only. The gene expression of glucose-related protein 78 (GRP78), CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP), and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), percentage of DNA fragmentation, and serum levels of some oxidative and inflammatory markers were measured. KEY FINDINGS: The results indicated the potential upregulation of ERS, pro-apoptotic, lipid peroxidation, and pro-inflammatory cascades by induction of UC in rats. However, myristicin could effectively reverse the deteriorated effects of ulceration in colonic mucosa. It was mediated through downregulation of the ERS markers GRP78 and CHOP genes expression, reduction of NF-κB mRNA expression, DNA fragmentation, reduced lipid peroxidation, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and pro-inflammatory markers (Tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), Interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) and cyclo­oxygenase (COX-2) activity). Accompanied by elevated levels of IL-10, colonic Nuclear erythroid factor (Nrf-2) and Heme oxygenase (HO-1) activity as well as blood antioxidant enzymes activity. Results of docking might confirm the biological results of our study. SIGNIFICANCE: Myristicin could effectively modulate important stress, and inflammatory effectors and protect mucosal DNA from oxidative damage which can serve as a promising candidate for the treatment of ulcerative colitis.

<b>Background and Objective:</b> Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of metabolic abnormalities characterized by obesity, insulin resistance and dyslipidemia. This study aimed to investigate the impact of moringa, rosemary and purslane leave water extracts on metabolic syndrome in rats. <b>Materials and Methods:</b> Phenolic compounds in the plant leaves water extracts were determined by HPLC. Fifty adult male albino rats Sprague-Dawley strain were equally divided into five groups, group (1) Normal rats fed on the balanced diet, group (2) Metabolic syndrome rats fed on High Fat-High Fructose Diet (HF-HFD). The other three groups were fed on HF-HFD and orally administered 200 mg kg<sup></sup><sup>1</sup> b.wt. daily of the tested plant's leaves water extracts, respectively, for 12 weeks. Some anthropometric measurements (BMI, Lee index and adiposity index), biochemical parameters such as glucose hemostasis parameters (glucose, Insulin, HOMA-IR and GLP-1), lipids profile (TAGs, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, free fatty acids, Apo-B and Apo A1), adipokines (leptin and adiponectin), some inflammatory markers (TNF-α and IL-6) and oxidative stress markers (PCC, NO and MDA), some anti-oxidant markers (GSH, CAT and TAOC) as well as, the gene expression level of endothelial nitric oxide synthase were determined. <b>Results:</b> The results revealed that feeding rats with HF-HFD for 12 weeks significantly increased anthropometric measurements, some inflammatory markers and oxidative stress markers and worsen glucose hemostasis parameters, lipids profile, adipokines and endothelial function as compared to the normal group. Moreover, co-administration of the tested plant's extracts at the tested dose to HF-HFD fed rats reduced the development of indicators of metabolic syndrome when compared to the metabolic syndrome group. <b>Conclusion:</b> The administered plant leaves water extracts at the tested dose could improve the features of metabolic syndrome. Rosemary leaves water extract has more effect in comparison with the other extracts.

<b>Background and Objective:</b> Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity and cognitive dysfunction. The present study was designed to examine the possible modulatory effect of Fish, Walnuts or Fenugreek Oils against Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)-like Behavior induced by Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) in Rats. <b>Materials and Methods:</b> Fifty weaning rats were divided into five groups, (each group contain 10 rats) as follows: Group 1: Normal control rats were fed on a balanced diet. Groups from 2-5 rats were fed on a balanced diet+MSG (0.4 g kg<sup></sup><sup>1</sup> diet), Group 2 served as a positive control group whereas group 3, 4 and 5 treated with Fish, Walnuts and Fenugreek oil, respectively, (200 mg kg<sup></sup><sup>1</sup> b.wt.) by intra-gastric tube. Biochemical and behavioural parameters were tested as well as microscopic examination of brain tissue was done. <b>Results:</b> MSG ingestion caused marked disruption in locomotors activity, memory function and brain tissue structure along with significant abnormalities in some bio-markers and reduction in the gene expression level of Bcl-2 in brain tissue. However, treatment with the tested oils showed remarkable effect by reversing the condition. <b>Conclusion:</b> Dietary supplementation with walnut; fenugreek or fish oils at the tested dose could modulate the condition of ADHD in rats.
