Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder that significantly affects children and adults worldwide, characterized by persistent inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Current research in this field faces challenges, particularly in accurate diagnosis and effective treatment strategies. The analysis of motor information, enriched by artificial intelligence methodologies, plays a vital role in deepening our understanding and improving the management of ADHD. The integration of AI techniques, such as machine learning and data analysis, into the study of ADHD-related motor behaviors, allows for a more nuanced understanding of the disorder. This approach facilitates the identification of patterns and anomalies in motor activity that are often characteristic of ADHD, thereby contributing to more precise diagnostics and tailored treatment strategies. Our approach focuses on utilizing AI techniques to deeply analyze patients' motor information and cognitive processes, aiming to improve ADHD diagnosis and treatment strategies. On the ADHD dataset, the model significantly improved accuracy to 98.21% and recall to 93.86%, especially excelling in EEG data processing with accuracy and recall rates of 96.62 and 95.21%, respectively, demonstrating precise capturing of ADHD characteristic behaviors and physiological responses. These results not only reveal the great potential of our model in improving ADHD diagnostic accuracy and developing personalized treatment plans, but also open up new research perspectives for understanding the complex neurological logic of ADHD. In addition, our study not only suggests innovative perspectives and approaches for ADHD treatment, but also provides a solid foundation for future research exploring similar complex neurological disorders, providing valuable data and insights. This is scientifically important for improving treatment outcomes and patients' quality of life, and points the way for future-oriented medical research and clinical practice.

BACKGROUND: With the aging population, the number of individuals with dementia in China is increasing rapidly. This community-based study aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors for dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) among older adults in China. METHODS: In this study, 20,070 individuals aged ≥ 65 were recruited between January 1, 2022, and February 1, 2023, from ten communities in Xiamen City, China. We collected data on age, sex, level of education, and medical history, as well as global cognition and functional status. The prevalence of dementia and MCI was examined, and the risk factors for different groups were assessed. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of dementia and MCI was approximately 5.4% (95% confidence interval [CI], 5.1-5.7) and 7.7% (95% CI, 7.4-8.1), respectively. The results also indicated that dementia and MCI share similar risk factors, including older age, female sex, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus. Compared with individuals with no formal education, those with > 6 years of education had an odds ratio for MCI of 1.83 (95% CI, 1.49-2.25). We also found that only 5.5% of the positive participants chose to be referred to the hospital for further diagnosis and treatment during follow-up visits. CONCLUSIONS: This study estimated the prevalence and risk factors for dementia and MCI among individuals aged ≥ 65 years in Southeast China. These findings are crucial for preventing and managing dementia and MCI in China.

OBJECTIVE: We investigated the accuracy of the OMRON HEM-7361T automated oscillometric blood pressure (BP) monitor in the differentiation between atrial fibrillation and sinus rhythm. METHODS: An approximately equal number of patients with persistent atrial fibrillation and individuals with sinus rhythm were recruited from outpatients and inpatients of Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai, China. BP was measured three times consecutively with a 30-s interval with the OMRON HEM-7361T automatic electronic BP monitor for atrial fibrillation detection. A hand-held single lead electrocardiogram device was used for simultaneous electrocardiogram recordings. RESULTS: The device accurately identified atrial fibrillation in 100 (99.0%) of the 101 patients, with only 1 patient incorrectly classified as non-atrial fibrillation. The device correctly identified 99 (95.2%) of the 104 participants with sinus rhythm as non-atrial fibrillation, with five participants incorrectly classified as atrial fibrillation. The device had a positive predictive value of 95.2%, negative predictive value of 99.0%, and overall accuracy of 97.1%. Among the six misclassified participants, one with atrial fibrillation had a heart rate of 65 beats/min, and four of the five participants with sinus rhythm had cardiac arrhythmias (atrial or ventricular premature beat in one participants, sinus tachycardia in one participant, and both arrhythmias in one participant). CONCLUSION: The OMRON HEM-7361T BP monitor is accurate in the differentiation between atrial fibrillation and sinus rhythm. Whether the device is sufficiently accurate in the differentiation between atrial fibrillation and other cardiac arrhythmias remains under investigation.

Lesch-Nyhan syndrome (LNS) is a congenital defect disease that results in defective purine metabolism. It is caused by pathogenic variants of the HPRT gene. Its clinical symptoms mainly include high uric acid levels, gout, and kidney stones and damage. The mechanism of LNS has not been fully elucidated, and no cure exists. Animal models have always played an important role in exploring causative mechanisms and new therapies. This study combined CRISPR/Cas9 and microinjection to knock out the HPRT gene to create an LNS rabbit model. A sgRNA targeting exon 3 of HPRT gene was designed. Subsequently, Cas9 mRNA and sgRNA were injected into rabbit zygotes, and injected embryos were transferred to the uterus. The genotype and phenotype of rabbits were analyzed after birth. Four infant rabbits (named R1, R2, R3 and R4), which showed varying levels of gene modification, were born. The gene-editing efficiency was 100%. No wild-type sequences at the target HPRT gene were detected in R4 rabbit. Next, 6-thioguanine drug testing confirmed that HPRT enzymatic activity was deficient in R4 infant rabbit. HE staining revealed kidney abnormalities in all infant rabbits. Overall, an sgRNA capable of knocking out the HPRT gene in rabbits was successfully designed, and HPRT gene-modified rabbits were successfully constructed by using CRISPR/Cas9 technology and microinjection. This study provides a new nonrodent animal model for studying LNS syndrome.

We explored the effects of curcumin on the aberrant biological behaviors of prolactinoma cells and the downstream pathways through which curcumin exerts its antitumor effects. We used quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction assays to measure miR-206 expression levels in peripheral blood samples from patients with prolactinoma before and after curcumin treatment. We also investigated the proliferation level, viability, and invasion ability of groups of cells treated with different concentrations of curcumin using 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiahiazo (-z-y1)-3-di-phenytetrazoliumromide (MTT) assays, cell cloning assays, and Transwell assays, respectively. Furthermore, we determined the levels of autophagy-related proteins and protein kinase B/mammalian target of the rapamycin (Akt/mTOR) signaling pathway-related proteins in each group of treated cells by western blot. Curcumin treatment upregulated miR-206 expression levels in the peripheral blood of patients with prolactinoma and in GH3 cells. Knockdown of miR-206 expression enhanced the proliferation and invasive ability of GH3 cells, while curcumin treatment effectively inhibited the aberrant biological behavior of GH3 cells enhanced by miR-206 knockdown. miR-206 knockdown also activated the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway and inhibited autophagy in GH3 cells, and these changes were effectively reversed by curcumin treatment. Thus, curcumin inhibited the Akt/mTOR signaling pathway and promoted cell autophagy by miR-206 upregulation, resulting in antitumor effects that inhibited prolactinoma cell proliferation and invasion.

5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is a first-line treatment for colorectal cancer, but side effects such as severe diarrhea are common in clinical use and have been linked to its induction of normal cell senescence. Chloramphenicol (CAP) is an antibiotic commonly used to treat typhoid or anaerobic infections, but its senescence-related aspects have not been thoroughly investigated. Here, we used 5-FU to induce senescence in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and investigated the relationship between CAP and cellular senescence at the cellular level. In a model of cellular senescence induced by 5-FU treatment, we discovered that CAP treatment reversed the rise in the percentage of senescence-associated galactosidase (SA-ß-gal)-positive cells and decreased the expression of senescence-associated proteins (p16), senescence-associated genes (p21), and senescence-associated secretory phenotypes (SASPs: IL-6, TNF-α). In addition, CAP subsequently restored the autophagic process inhibited by 5-FU and upregulated the levels of autophagy-related proteins. Mechanistically, we found that CAP restored autophagic flux by inhibiting the mTOR pathway, which in turn alleviated FU-induced cellular senescence. Our findings suggest that CAP may help prevent cellular senescence and restore autophagy, opening up new possibilities and approaches for the clinical management of colorectal cancer.

Organophosphorus flame retardants, such as triphenyl phosphate (TPhP), exist ubiquitously in various environments owing to their widespread usage. Potential toxic effects of residual flame retardants on cultured non-fish species are not concerned commonly. TPhP-induced physiological and biochemical effects in an aquatic turtle were evaluated here by systematically investigating the changes in growth and locomotor performance, hepatic antioxidant ability and metabolite, and intestinal microbiota composition of turtle hatchlings after exposure to different TPhP concentrations. Reduced locomotor ability and antioxidant activity were only observed in the highest concentration group. Several metabolic perturbations that involved in amino acid, energy and nucleotide metabolism, in exposed turtles were revealed by metabolite profiles. No significant among-group difference in intestinal bacterial diversity was observed, but the composition was changed markedly in exposed turtles. Increased relative abundances of some bacterial genera (e.g., Staphylococcus, Vogesella and Lawsonella) probably indicated adverse outcomes of TPhP exposure. Despite having only limited impacts of exposure at environmentally relevant levels, our results revealed potential ecotoxicological risks of residual TPhP for aquatic turtles considering TPhP-induced metabolic perturbations and intestinal bacterial changes.

BACKGROUND: A large number of studies have shown that leptin plays an important role in the regulation of fertility via the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonad axis. However, its peripheral function in epididymis was still elusive. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the pro-secretion effect of leptin on the rat epididymal epithelium. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the present study, real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, western blot, and immunohistochemical analysis were employed to detect the expression pattern of leptin receptors in rat epididymis. The pro-secretion effect of leptin on epididymal epithelial cells was measured by short-circuit current, and the prostaglandin E2 and cyclic adenosine monophosphate level was evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: We verified that the leptin receptor was located on the epididymal epithelium, with a relatively high expression level in corpus and cauda epididymis. Ussing chamber experiments showed that leptin stimulated a significant rise of the short-circuit current in rat epididymal epithelial cells, which could be abolished by the specific leptin receptor antagonist peptide Allo-aca, or by removing the ambient Cl- and HCO3 -. Furthermore, the leptin-stimulated short-circuit current response could be abrogated by blocking the apical cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator or the basolateral Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter. Our pharmacological experiments manifested that interfering with the prostaglandin H synthase-2-prostaglandin E2-EP2/EP4-adenylate cyclase pathways could significantly blunt the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator-mediated anion secretion induced by leptin. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay demonstrated that leptin could induce a substantial increase in prostaglandin E2 release and cyclic adenosine monophosphate synthesis of primary cultured rat cauda epididymal epithelial cells. Our data also suggested that JAK2, ERK, and PI3K-dependent phosphorylation may be involved in the activation of prostaglandin H synthase-2 and the subsequent prostaglandin E2 production. CONCLUSIONS: The present study demonstrated the pro-secretion function of leptin in rat epididymal epithelium via the activation of cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator and Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter, which was dependent on the paracrine/autocrine prostaglandin E2 stimulated EP2/EP4-adenylate cyclase pathways, and thus contributed to the formation of an appropriate microenvironment essential for sperm maturation.

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is connected to mitochondria through mitochondria-associated ER membranes (MAMs). MAMs provide a framework for crosstalk between the ER and mitochondria, playing a crucial role in regulating cellular calcium balance, lipid metabolism, and cell death. Dysregulation of MAMs is involved in the development of chronic liver disease (CLD). In CLD, changes in MAMs structure and function occur due to factors such as cellular stress, inflammation, and oxidative stress, leading to abnormal interactions between mitochondria and the ER, resulting in liver cell injury, fibrosis, and impaired liver function. Traditional Chinese medicine has shown some research progress in regulating MAMs signaling and treating CLD. This paper reviews the literature on the association between mitochondria and the ER, as well as the intervention of traditional Chinese medicine in regulating CLD.

An economical one-pot, three-step reaction sequence of readily available 2-monosubstituted 1,3-diketones and 1,4-benzoquinones has been explored for the facile access of 2,3-dialkyl-5-hydroxybenzofurans. By using cheap K2CO3 and conc. HCl as the reaction promoters, the reaction occurs smoothly via sequential Michael addition, aromatization, retro-Claisen, deacylation, hemiketalization, and dehydration processes under mild conditions in a practical manner. Additionally, an interesting phenomenon was observed during the derivatization studies, where the dihydroquinoline was converted into tetrahydroquinoline and quinoline products, respectively, via a disproportionation process.

PURPOSE: Non-weight bearing is often recommended after humeral fractures. This review aims to summarise the extent and nature of the evidence for the feasibility, acceptability, safety, and effects of early weight bearing (EWB) in people with humeral fractures, treated operatively or non-operatively. . METHODS: Data sources identified published (PUBMED, EMBASE, CINAHL) and unpublished (ClinicalTrials.gov, CENTRAL, NIHR Open Research, OpenGrey) literature. Independent data extraction was conducted by two reviewers. RESULTS: 13 901 records were retrieved. Ten studies, involving 515 post-operative patients and 351 healthcare professionals, were included. EWB was found to be feasible in nine studies. There was limited evidence regarding adherence to EWB. Trauma and orthopaedic surgeons reported that EWB was acceptable. This depended on surgery type and whether it was a post-operative polytrauma case. No acceptability data was reported from patients' perspectives. Only one study reported two patients who developed unsatisfactory outcomes from excessive post-operative EWB. Positive effects of EWB were reported on disability level, pain, shoulder and elbow motion, and union. CONCLUSION: There is some evidence for the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of post-operative EWB after humeral fractures. There was limited data on the acceptability of EWB. Heterogeneous study designs, and variations in EWB protocols limit conclusions.


There is some evidence to support the feasibility, safety, and effectiveness of early weight bearing following operative management of humeral fractures.Early weight bearing after some humeral fractures is acceptable to some subspecialities of orthopaedic surgeons but is not universally accepted.Rehabilitation professionals should discuss the option of early weight bearing after operative management of humeral fracture with patients and their multidisciplinary team.

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) overexpressed mutidrug resistance (MDR) is currently a key factor limiting the effectiveness of breast cancer chemotherapy. Systemic administration based on P-gp-associated mechanism leads to severe toxic side effects. Here, we designed a T7 peptide-modified mixed liposome (T7-MLP@DTX/SchB) that, by active targeting co-delivering chemotherapeutic agents and P-gp inhibitors, harnessed synergistic effects to improve the treatment of MDR breast cancer. This study established drug-resistant cell models and animal models. Subsequently, comprehensive evaluations involving cell uptake, cell apoptosis, cellular toxicity assays, in vivo tumor-targeting capability, and anti-tumor activity assays were conducted to assess the drug resistance reversal effects of T7-MLP@DTX/SchB. Additionally, a systematic assessment of the biosafety profile of T7-MLP@DTX/SchB was executed, including blood profiles, biochemical markers, and histopathological examination. It was found that this co-delivery strategy successfully exerted the synergistic effects, since there was a significant tumor growth inhibitory effect on multidrug-resistant breast cancer. Targeted modification with T7 peptide enhanced the therapeutic efficacy remarkably, while vastly ameliorating the biocompatibility compared to free drugs. The intriguing results supported the promising potential use of T7-MLP@DTX/SchB in overcoming MDR breast cancer treatment.

Ischemic stroke patients with thrombophilia and patient foramen ovale (PFO) may have an increased risk of recurrent stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA), and may benefit from PFO closure. However, screening for thrombophilia is not routinely performed and the impact of thrombophilia on prognosis after PFO closure is uncertain. We aim to compare the risk of recurrent stroke and TIA after PFO closure in patients with thrombophilia versus those without. We performed a systematic review and meta-analyses of the literature, with a comprehensive literature search performed on 12 January 2023. Studies comparing the outcomes of patients with and without thrombophilia after PFO closure were included. The primary outcome evaluated was a recurrence of acute cerebrovascular event (ACE), a composite of recurrent ischemic stroke and recurrent TIA. The secondary outcomes included recurrent ischemic stroke only or TIA only. A total of 8 cohort studies were included, with a total of 3514 patients. There was an increased risk of stroke/TIA in patients with thrombophilia compared to those without thrombophilia after PFO (OR: 1.42, 95% CI: 1.01-1.99, I2 = 50%). The association between risk of TIA only (OR: 1.36, 95% CI: 0.77-2.41, I2 = 0%) and stroke only (OR: 1.09, 95% CI: 0.54-2.21, I2 = 0%) with thrombophilia did not reach statistical significance. There is an increased risk of recurrent cerebral ischemia event in patients with thrombophilia compared to those without thrombophilia after PFO closure. Future large prospective studies are necessary to characterise the risk and benefits of PFO closure, as well as the appropriate medical treatment to reduce the risk of recurrent stroke and TIA in this high-risk population.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the safety and feasibility of precise delivery of a long-acting gel formulation containing 6% dexamethasone (SPT-2101) to the round window membrane for the treatment of Menière's disease. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective, unblinded, cohort study. SETTING: Tertiary care neurotology clinic. PATIENTS: Adults 18 to 85 years with a diagnosis of unilateral definite Menière's disease per Barany society criteria. INTERVENTIONS: A single injection of a long-acting gel formulation under direct visualization into the round window niche. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Procedure success rate, adverse events, and vertigo control. Vertigo control was measured with definitive vertigo days (DVDs), defined as any day with a vertigo attack lasting 20 minutes or longer. RESULTS: Ten subjects with unilateral Menière's disease were enrolled. Precise placement of SPT-2101 at the round window was achieved in all subjects with in-office microendoscopy. Adverse events included one tympanic membrane perforation, which healed spontaneously after the study, and two instances of otitis media, which resolved with antibiotics. The average number of DVDs was 7.6 during the baseline month, decreasing to 3.3 by month 1, 3.7 by month 2, and 1.9 by month 3. Seventy percent of subjects had zero DVDs during the third month after treatment. CONCLUSIONS: SPT-2101 delivery to the round window is safe and feasible, and controlled trials are warranted to formally assess efficacy.

Itching is an aversive somatosensation that triggers the desire to scratch. Transient receptor potential (TRP) channel proteins are key players in acute and chronic itch. However, whether the modulatory effect of fibroblast growth factor 13 (FGF13) on acute and chronic itch is associated with TRP channel proteins is unclear. Here, we demonstrated that conditional knockout of Fgf13 in dorsal root ganglion neurons induced significant impairment in scratching behaviors in response to acute histamine-dependent and chronic dry skin itch models. Furthermore, FGF13 selectively regulated the function of the TRPV1, but not the TRPA1 channel on Ca2+ imaging and electrophysiological recordings, as demonstrated by a significant reduction in neuronal excitability and current density induced by TRPV1 channel activation, whereas TRPA1 channel activation had no effect. Changes in channel currents were also verified in HEK cell lines. Subsequently, we observed that selective modulation of TRPV1 by FGF13 required its microtubule-stabilizing effect. Furthermore, in FGF13 knockout mice, only the overexpression of FGF13 with a tubulin-binding domain could rescue TRP channel function and the impaired itch behavior. Our findings reveal a novel mechanism by which FGF13 is involved in TRPV1-dependent itch transduction and provide valuable clues for alleviating pathological itch syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Clear cell likelihood score (ccLS) is reliable for diagnosing small renal masses (SRMs). However, the diagnostic value of Clear cell likelihood score version 1.0 (ccLS v1.0) and v2.0 for common subtypes of SRMs might be a potential score extension. PURPOSE: To compare the diagnostic performance and interobserver agreement of ccLS v1.0 and v2.0 for characterizing five common subtypes of SRMs. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: 797 patients (563 males, 234 females; mean age, 53 ± 12 years) with 867 histologically proven renal masses. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCES: 3.0 and 1.5 T/T2 weighted imaging, T1 weighted imaging, diffusion-weighted imaging, a dual-echo chemical shift (in- and opposed-phase) T1 weighted imaging, multiphase dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging. ASSESSMENT: Six abdominal radiologists were trained in the ccLS algorithm and independently scored each SRM using ccLS v1.0 and v2.0, respectively. All SRMs had definite pathological results. The pooled area under curve (AUC), accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were calculated to evaluate the diagnostic performance of ccLS v1.0 and v2.0 for characterizing common subtypes of SRMs. The average κ values were calculated to evaluate the interobserver agreement of the two scoring versions. STATISTICAL TESTS: Random-effects logistic regression; Receiver operating characteristic analysis; DeLong test; Weighted Kappa test; Z test. The statistical significance level was P < 0.05. RESULTS: The pooled AUCs of clear cell likelihood score version 2.0 (ccLS v2.0) were statistically superior to those of ccLS v1.0 for diagnosing clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) (0.907 vs. 0.851), papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) (0.926 vs. 0.888), renal oncocytoma (RO) (0.745 vs. 0.679), and angiomyolipoma without visible fat (AMLwvf) (0.826 vs. 0.766). Interobserver agreement for SRMs between ccLS v1.0 and v2.0 is comparable and was not statistically significant (P = 0.993). CONCLUSION: The diagnostic performance of ccLS v2.0 surpasses that of ccLS v1.0 for characterizing ccRCC, pRCC, RO, and AMLwvf. Especially, the standardized algorithm has optimal performance for ccRCC and pRCC. ccLS has potential as a supportive clinical tool. EVIDENCE LEVEL: 4. TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

High-altitude hypoxia acclimatization requires whole-body physiological regulation in highland immigrants, but the underlying genetic mechanism has not been clarified. Here we use sheep as an animal model for low-to-high altitude translocation. We generate multi-omics data including whole-genome sequences, time-resolved bulk RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq and single-cell RNA-Seq from multiple tissues as well as phenotypic data from 20 bio-indicators. We characterize transcriptional changes of all genes in each tissue, and examine multi-tissue temporal dynamics and transcriptional interactions among genes. Particularly, we identify critical functional genes regulating the short response to hypoxia in each tissue (e.g., PARG in the cerebellum and HMOX1 in the colon). We further identify TAD-constrained cis-regulatory elements, which suppress the transcriptional activity of most genes under hypoxia. Phenotypic and transcriptional evidence indicate that antenatal hypoxia could improve hypoxia tolerance in offspring. Furthermore, we provide time-series expression data of candidate genes associated with human mountain sickness (e.g., BMPR2) and high-altitude adaptation (e.g., HIF1A). Our study provides valuable resources and insights for future hypoxia-related studies in mammals.

Aprotic Li-O2 batteries have sparked attention in recent years due to their ultrahigh theoretical energy density. Nevertheless, their practical implementation is impeded by the sluggish reaction kinetics at the cathode. Comprehending the catalytic mechanisms is pivotal to developing efficient cathode catalysts for high-performance Li-O2 batteries. Herein, the intrinsic activity map of Li-O2 batteries is established based on the specific adsorption mode of O2 induced by diatomic catalyst orbital matching and the transfer-acceptance-backdonation mechanism, and the four-step screening strategy based on the intrinsic activity map is proposed. Guided by the strategy, FeNi@NC and FeCu@NC promising durable stability with a low overpotential are screened out from 27 Fe-Metal diatomic catalysts. Our research not only provides insights into the fundamental understanding of the reaction mechanism of Li-O2 batteries but also accelerates the rational design of efficient Li-O2 batteries based on the structure-activity relationship.

Biomass burning (e.g., wildfire) frequently occurs globally, inevitably produces abundant biomass-burning smoke-derived dissolved organic matters (BBS-DOMs) which eventually deposits on the surface environment. The adsorption and fractionation of BBS-DOMs on clays inevitably alter their biogeochemical process and environmental behaviors in the surface environment. It is therefore important to clarify the adsorption and fractionation of BBS-DOM on clay surfaces. This study found that the fractionation of BBS-DOMs on clays (montmorillonite and kaolinite) were controlled by their functional groups, aromaticity, molecular size and organic components. The spectral indexes (SUVA254 and S275-295) of BBS-DOMs in solution after clays adsorption suggested that with the increasing DOC concentration, the primary interaction between BBS-DOMs and clays changed from hydrogen bond to hydrophobic/pore filling effects, and the adsorption ratio of the large molecules increased, which were very different from natural fulvic acid. Furthermore, various BBS-DOMs and fulvic acid had different component fractionation behaviors during clay adsorption, because they had different abundances of protein-like matters (hydrogen bond donors), pyridine-N/pyrimidine-N (positive charge doners of electrostatic interaction), and fulvic-like matters (hydrophobic interaction and pore filling effect). Additionally, the increasing pH weakened the adsorption of bulk BBS-DOMs and enhanced the adsorption ratio of aromatic matters and smaller BBS-DOM molecules. Meanwhile, at a higher pH, the adsorption ratio of protein-like matters increased, while the adsorption ratio of humic- and fulvic-like matters decreased. The result was ascribed to the enhanced hydrogen bond between protein-like matters and clays as well as the enhanced electrostatic repulsion between humic-/fulvic-like matters and clays. This study is helpful for deeply understanding the multimedia-crossing environmental behavior of BBS-DOMs in the surface environment.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs), known for their chemical stability and porous crystalline structure, hold promises as advanced separation membranes. However, fabricating high-quality COF membranes, particularly on industrial-preferred hollow fiber substrates, remains challenging. This study introduces a novel vapor/vapor-solid (V/V-S) method for growing ultrathin crystalline TpPa-1 COF membranes on the inner lumen surface of alumina hollow fibers (TpPa-1/Alumina). Through vapor-phase monomer introduction onto polydopamine-modified alumina at 170 °C and 1 atm, efficient polymerization and crystallization occur at the confined V-S interface. This enables one-step growth within 8 h, producing 100 nm thick COF membranes with strong substrate adhesion. TpPa-1/Alumina exhibits exceptional stability and performance over 80 h in continuous cross-flow organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN), with methanol permeance of about 200 L m-2 h-1 bar-1 and dye rejection with molecular weight cutoff (MWCO) of approximately 700 Da. Moreover, the versatile V/V-S method synthesizes two additional COF membranes (TpPa2Cl/Alumina and TpHz/Alumina) with different pore sizes and chemical environments. Adjusting the COF membrane thickness between 100-500 nm is achievable easily by varying the growth cycle numbers. Notably, TpPa2Cl/Alumina demonstrates excellent OSN performance in separating the model active pharmaceutical ingredient glycyrrhizic acid (GA) from dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), highlighting the method's potential for large-scale industrial applications.
