Electrochemical-mechanical coupling poses enormous challenges to the interfacial and structural stability but create new opportunities to design innovative all-solid-state batteries from scratch. Relying on the solid-solid constraint in the space-limited domain structure, we propose to exploit the lithiation-induced stress to drive the active materials creep, thereby improving the structural integrity. For demonstration, we fabricate the creep-type all-solid-state cathode using creepable Se material and an all-in-one rigid ionic/electronic conducting Mo6Se8 framework. As indicated by the in-situ experiment and numerical simulation, this cathode presents unique capabilities in improving interparticle contact and avoiding particle fracture, leading to its superior electrochemical performance, including a superior long-cycle life of more than 3000 cycles at 0.5 C and a high volumetric energy density of 2460 Wh/L at the cathode level. We believe this innovative strategy to utilize mechanics to boost the electrochemical performance could shed light on the future design of all-solid-state batteries for practical applications.

Bud sport is a common and stable somatic variation in perennial fruit trees, and often leads to significant modification of fruit traits and affects the breeding value. To investigate the impact of bud sport on the main metabolites in the fruit of white-fleshed loquat, we conducted a multi-omics analysis of loquat fruits at different developmental stages of a white-fleshed bud sport mutant of Dongting loquat (TBW) and its wild type (TBY). The findings from the detection of main fruit quality indices and metabolites suggested that bud sport resulted in a reduction in the accumulation of carotenoids, fructose, titratable acid and terpenoids at the mature stage of TBW, while leading to the accumulation of flavonoids, phenolic acids, amino acids and lipids. The comparably low content of titratable acid further enhances the balanced and pleasent taste profile of TBW. Expression patterns of differentially expressed genes involved in fructose metabolism exhibited a significant increase in the expression level of S6PDH (EVM0006243, EVM0044405) prior to fruit maturation. The comparison of protein sequences and promoter region of S6PDH between TBY and TBW revealed no structural variations that would impact gene function or expression, indicating that transcription factors may be responsible for the rapid up-regulation of S6PDH before maturation. Furthermore, correlation analysis helped to construct a comprehensive regulatory network of fructose metabolism in loquat, including 23 transcription factors, six structural genes, and nine saccharides. Based on the regulatory network and existing studies, it could be inferred that transcription factors such as ERF, NAC, MYB, GRAS, and bZIP may promote fructose accumulation in loquat flesh by positively regulating S6PDH. These findings improve our understanding of the nutritional value and breeding potential of white-fleshed loquat bud sport mutant, as well as serve as a foundation for exploring the genes and transcription factors that regulate fructose metabolism in loquat.

BACKGROUND: Local recurrence in locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) after carbon-ion radiotherapy (CIRT) may partly attribute to low dose-averaged linear energy transfer (LETd ), despite high CIRT dose. PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the approaches to up-modulate the CIRT LETd and to evaluate the corresponding oxygen enhancement ratio (OER) reduction. METHODS: 10 LAPCs that had been irradiated by CIRT with 67.5 Gy (RBE) in 15 fractions were selected. Their original plans were taken as the control plan for the LETd and OER investigations. Our considerations for up-modulating LETd were: (1) to deliver high doses to gross tumor volume core (GTVcore), while keeping dose constraints of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in tolerance; (2) to put more Bragg-peak (BP) within the modulated targets; (3) to increase the BP density, high doses were necessary; (4) CIRT LETd could be effectively increased to small volumes; and (5) simultaneous integrated boost technique (SIB) could achieve the aforementioned tasks. The LETd and the corresponding OER distributions of each type of SIB plan were evaluated. RESULTS: We delivered up to 100 Gy (RBE) to GTVcore using SIB. The mean LETd of GTV increased significantly by 21.3% from 47.8 to 58.0 keV/µm (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, the mean OER of GTVcore decreased by 6.6%, from 1.51 to 1.41 (p < 0.05). The GI LETd S in all modulated plans were not more than those in the original plans. CONCLUSIONS: SIB could effectively increase CIRT LETd to LAPC, thus producing reduced OER, which may effectively overcome the radioresistance of LAPCs.

The purpose of this work was to use integrated bioinformatics analysis to screen for pyroptosis-related genes (PRGs) and possible immunological phenotypes linked to the development and course of IPF. Transcriptome sequencing datasets GSE70866, GSE47460 and GSE150910 were obtained from GEO database. From the GSE70866 database, 34 PRGs with differential expression were found in IPF as compared to healthy controls. In addition, a diagnostic model containing 4 genes PRGs (CAMP, MKI67, TCEA3 and USP24) was constructed based on LASSO logistic regression. The diagnostic model showed good predictive ability to differentiate between IPF and healthy, with ROC-AUC ranging from 0.910 to 0.997 in GSE70866 and GSE150910 datasets. Moreover, based on a combined cohort of the Freiburg and the Siena cohorts from GSE70866 dataset, we identified ten PRGs that might predict prognosis for IPF. We constructed a prognostic model that included eight PRGs (CLEC5A, TREM2, MMP1, IRF2, SEZ6L2, ADORA3, NOS2, USP24) by LASSO Cox regression and validated it in the Leuven cohort. The risk model divided IPF patients from the combined cohort into high-risk and low-risk subgroups. There were significant differences between the two subgroups in terms of IPF survival and GAP stage. There is a close correlation between leukocyte migration, plasma membrane junction, and poor prognosis in a high-risk subgroup. Furthermore, a high-risk score was associated with more plasma cells, activated NK cells, monocytes, and activated mast cells. Additionally, we identified HDAC inhibitors in the cMAP database that might be therapeutic for IPF. To summarize, pyroptosis and its underlying immunological features are to blame for the onset and progression of IPF. PRG-based predictive models and drugs may offer new treatment options for IPF.

BACKGROUND: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy has been standard of care for unresectable esophageal carcinoma. There were no reports on proton radiotherapy (PRT) plus carbon-ion radiotherapy (CIRT) with pencil beam scanning (PBS) for esophageal carcinoma. This study evaluated the tolerability and efficiency of proton and sequential carbon-ion boost radiotherapy for esophageal carcinoma. METHODS: From April 2017 to July 2020, 20 patients with primary esophageal carcinoma at stages II-IV were treated with PRT plus sequential CIRT with PBS. A median relative biological effectiveness-weighted PRT dose of 50 Gy in 25 fractions, and a sequential CIRT dose of 21 Gy in 7 fractions were delivered. Respiratory motion management was used if the tumor moved > 5 mm during the breathing cycle. A dosimetric comparison of photon intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), PRT, and CIRT was performed. The median times and rates of survivals were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Comparison of the dose-volume parameters of the organs at risk employed the Wilcoxon matched-pairs test. RESULTS: Twenty patients (15 men and 5 women, median age 70 years) were included in the analysis. With a median follow-up period of 25.0 months, the 2-year overall survival and progression-free survival rates were 69.2% and 57.4%, respectively. The patients tolerated radiotherapy and chemotherapy well. Grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 acute hematological toxicities were detected in 25%, 30%, 10%, and 30% of patients, respectively. Grades 3-5 acute non-hematological toxicities were not observed. Late toxicity events included grades 1, 2, and 3 in 50%, 20%, and 10% (pulmonary and esophageal toxicity in each) of patients. Grades 4-5 late toxicities were not noted. PRT or CIRT produced lower doses to organs at risk than did photon IMRT, especially the maximum dose delivered to the spinal cord and the mean doses delivered to the lungs and heart. CONCLUSIONS: PRT plus CIRT with PBS appears to be a safe and effective treatment for esophageal carcinoma. PRT and CIRT delivered lower doses to organs at risk than did photon IMRT. Further investigation is warranted.

This study aimed to evaluate the oncological outcomes and safety of carbon ion re-irradiation with pencil beam scanning (PBS) delivery technique for previously irradiated and unresectable locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC). Between June 2017 and September 2021, 24 patients of unresectable LRRC with prior pelvic photon radiotherapy who underwent carbon ion re-irradiation at our institute were retrospectively analyzed. Carbon ion radiotherapy was delivered by raster scanning with a median relative biological effectiveness-weighted dose of 72 Gy in 20 fractions. Weekly CT reviews were carried out, and offline adaptive replanning was performed whenever required. The median follow-up duration was 23.8 months (range, 6.2-47.1 months). At the last follow-up, two patients had a local disease progression, and 11 patients developed distant metastases. The 1- and 2-year local control, progression-free survival and overall survival rates were 100 and 93.3%, 70.8 and 45.0% and 86.7 and 81.3%, respectively. There were no Grade 3 or higher acute toxicities observed. Three patients developed Grade 3 late toxicities, one each with gastrointestinal toxicity, skin reaction and pelvic infection. In conclusion, definitive carbon ion re-irradiation with PBS provided superior oncologic results with tolerable toxicities and may be served as a curative treatment strategy in unresectable LRRC.

PURPOSE: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the risk of early and late onset seizures following stroke mechanic thrombectomy (MT) compared with other systematic thrombolytic strategies. METHODS: A literature search was conducted to identify articles covering databases (PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library) published from 2000 to 2022. The primary outcome was the incidence of post-stroke epilepsy or seizures following MT or in combination with intravenous thrombolytics therapy. Risk of bias was assessed by recording study characteristics. The study was conducted according to the PRISMA guidelines. RESULTS: There were 1346 papers in the search results, and 13 papers were included in the final review.We identified 29,793 patients with stroke, of which 695 had seizures. Pooled incidence of post-stroke seizures had no significant difference between mechanic thrombolytic group and other thrombolytic strategy group (OR=0.95 (95%CI= 0.75-1.21); Z=0.43; p=0.67). In subgroup analysis, mechanic group have a lower risk of post-stroke early onset of seizures (OR=0.59 (95%CI=0.36-0.95); Z=2.18; p<0.05) but showed no significant difference in post-stroke late onset of seizures (OR=0.95 (95%CI= 0.68-1.32); Z=0.32; p=0.75). CONCLUSIONS: MT may be associated with a lower risk of post-stroke early onset of seizures, despite MT does not affect the pooled incidence of post-stroke seizures compared with other systematic thrombolytic strategies.

Seed sugar composition, mainly including fructose, glucose, sucrose, raffinose, and stachyose, is an important indicator of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] seed quality. However, research on soybean sugar composition is limited. To better understand the genetic architecture underlying the sugar composition in soybean seeds, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using a population of 323 soybean germplasm accessions which were grown and evaluated under three different environments. A total of 31,245 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with minor allele frequencies (MAFs) ≥ 5% and missing data ≤ 10% were selected and used in the GWAS. The analysis identified 72 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with individual sugars and 14 with total sugar. Ten candidate genes within the 100 Kb flanking regions of the lead SNPs across six chromosomes were significantly associated with sugar contents. According to GO and KEGG classification, eight genes were involved in the sugar metabolism in soybean and showed similar functions in Arabidopsis. The other two, located in known QTL regions associated with sugar composition, may play a role in sugar metabolism in soybean. This study advances our understanding of the genetic basis of soybean sugar composition and facilitates the identification of genes controlling this trait. The identified candidate genes will help improve seed sugar composition in soybean.

BACKGROUND: This study focused on the relationship between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the dose of organs at risk in patients with stage II-III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) receiving intensity-modulated radiotherapy. METHODS: The clinical characteristics and dosimetric parameters of 372 patients were collected retrospectively. A high NLR was defined as that ≥1.525. Survival analysis was conducted using the Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analysis. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis was conducted to select appropriate dosimetric parameters. The risk factors of NLR were evaluated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. RESULTS: Patients with a high NLR had poorer progression-free survival (PFS) (p = 0.011) and overall survival (OS) (p = 0.061). A low NLR (<1.525) predicted better PFS (hazard ratio [HR] 0.676, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.508-0.900, p = 0.007) and OS (HR 0.664, 95% CI: 0.490-0.901, p = 0.009). The aorta dose differed between the low and high NLR groups (all <0.1) in the univariate analysis. An aorta V10 was confirmed as a significant risk factor for a high NLR (odds ratio [OR] 1.029, 95% CI: 1.011-1.048, p = 0.002). Receiving chemotherapy before (OR 0.428, 95% CI: 0.225-0.813, p = 0.010) and during (OR 0.491, 95% CI: 0.296-0.815, p = 0.006) radiotherapy were predictive factors of a low NLR. CONCLUSION: The aorta dose was significantly associated with a high NLR. Patients with stage II-III NSCLC with a high NLR had poorer prognosis. Receiving chemotherapy before and/or during radiotherapy predicted a low NLR.

The main objective of present study was to understand the community succession of microbial populations related to carbon-nitrogen-phosphorus-sulfur (CNPS) biogeochemical cycles during cow-manure-driven composting and their correlation with product maturity. The abundance of microbial populations associated with C degradation, nitrification, cellular-P transport, inorganic-P dissolution, and organic-P mineralization decreased gradually with composting but increased at the maturation phase. The abundance of populations related to N-fixation, nitrate-reduction, and ammonification increased during the mesophilic stage and decreased during the thermophilic and maturation stages. The abundance of populations related to C fixation and denitrification increased with composting; however, the latter tended to decrease at the maturation stage. Populations related to organic-P mineralization were the key manipulators regulating compost maturity, followed by those related to denitrification and nitrification; those populations were mediated by inorganic N and available P content. This study highlighted the consequence of microbe-driven P mineralization in improving composting efficiency and product quality.

PURPOSE: Lymphopenia is a common adverse effect of radiation therapy (RT). Little is known about the difference in lymphopenia between intensity modulated (photon) radiation therapy (IMRT) and proton and carbon ion radiation therapy (PCIRT). This study aimed to investigate lymphopenia differences between IMRT and PCIRT in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). METHODS AND MATERIALS: Clinical and dosimetric parameters were collected from 343 patients who received definitive IMRT or PCIRT for NSCLC. Severe lymphopenia (SRL) was defined as an absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) ≤0.5 × 103 cells/µL. Overall survival (OS) was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Propensity score matching was performed between the IMRT and PCIRT groups. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator analysis was used to select appropriate dosimetric parameters. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify the predictors of SRL. RESULTS: Compared with the IMRT group, the PCIRT group was less likely to develop SRL (P < .001). Compared with the non-SRL group, the SRL group showed significant association with poorer OS, with a median survival time of 29.2 versus 15.0 months (P = .046). IMRT was an independent risk factor of SRL (P = .004). A lower ALC before RT (P = .030) and larger planning target volume (PTV) (P = .002) were also significant independent risk factors for SRL. Moreover, the majority of dosimetric parameters of organs at risk in PCIRT were lower than those in IMRT (P < .001). Thoracic vertebra V5 (P = .002) and aorta V5 (P = .026) were identified as independent risk predictors of SRL after adding dosimetric parameters to the regression model. CONCLUSIONS: Compared with IMRT, PCIRT could reduce SRL incidence, possibly by limiting thoracic vertebra and aortic doses, and SRL was associated with poor outcomes in patients with NSCLC.

This study evaluates the feasibility of the pencil beam scanning technique of carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) in the setting of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and establishes the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) calculated by the Local Effect Model version I (LEM-I) with a dose escalation plan. The escalated relative biological effectiveness-weighted dose levels included 55, 60, 65, and 70 Gy in 10 fractions. Active motion management techniques were employed, and several measures were applied to mitigate the interplay effect induced by a moving target. CIRT was planned with the LEM-I-based treatment planning system and delivered by raster scanning. Offline PET/CT imaging was used to verify the beam range. Offline adaptive replanning was performed whenever required. Twenty-three patients with a median tumor size of 4.3 cm (range, 1.7-8.5 cm) were enrolled in the present study. The median follow-up time was 56.1 months (range, 5.7-74.4 months). No dose limiting toxicity was observed until 70 Gy, and MTD had not been reached. No patients experienced radiation-induced liver disease within 6 months after the completion of CIRT. The overall survival rates at 1, 3, and 5 years were 91.3%, 81.9%, and 67.1% after CIRT, respectively. The local progression-free survival and progression-free survival rates at 1, 3 and 5 years were 100%, 94.4%, and 94.4% and 73.6%, 59.2%, and 37.0%, respectively. The raster scanning technique could be used to treat HCC. However, caution should be exercised to mitigate the interplay effect. CIRT up to 70 Gy in 10 fractions over 2 weeks was safe and effective for HCC.

The loquat (Eriobotrya japonica L.) is a special evergreen tree, and its fruit is of high medical and health value as well as having stable market demand around the world. In recent years, research on the accumulation of nutrients in loquat fruit, such as carotenoids, flavonoids, and terpenoids, has become a hotspot. The SBP-box gene family encodes transcription factors involved in plant growth and development. However, there has been no report on the SBP-box gene family in the loquat genome and their functions in carotenoid biosynthesis and fruit ripening. In this study, we identified 28 EjSBP genes in the loquat genome, which were unevenly distributed on 12 chromosomes. We also systematically investigated the phylogenetic relationship, collinearity, gene structure, conserved motifs, and cis-elements of EjSBP proteins. Most EjSBP genes showed high expression in the root, stem, leaf, and inflorescence, while only five EjSBP genes were highly expressed in the fruit. Gene expression analysis revealed eight differentially expressed EjSBP genes between yellow- and white-fleshed fruits, suggesting that the EjSBP genes play important roles in loquat fruit development at the breaker stage. Notably, EjSBP01 and EjSBP19 exhibited completely opposite expression patterns between white- and yellow-fleshed fruits during fruit development, and showed a close relationship with SlCnr involved in carotenoid biosynthesis and fruit ripening, indicating that these two genes may participate in the synthesis and accumulation of carotenoids in loquat fruit. In summary, this study provides comprehensive information about the SBP-box gene family in the loquat, and identified two EjSBP genes as candidates involved in carotenoid synthesis and accumulation during loquat fruit development.

Purpose: Carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) has emerged as a promising treatment modality for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, evidence of using the pencil beam scanning (PBS) technique to treat moving liver tumors remains lacking. The present study investigated the efficacy and toxicity of PBS CIRT in patients with HCC. Methods: Between January 2016 and October 2021, 90 consecutive HCC patients treated with definitive CIRT in our center were retrospectively analyzed. Fifty-eight patients received relative biological effectiveness-weighted doses of 50-70 Gy in 10 fractions, and 32 received 60-67.5 Gy in 15 fractions, which were determined by the tumor location and normal tissue constraints. Active motion-management techniques and necessary strategies were adopted to mitigate interplay effects efficiently. Oncologic outcomes and toxicities were evaluated. Results: The median follow-up time was 28.6 months (range 5.7-74.6 months). The objective response rate was 75.0% for all 90 patients with 100 treated lesions. The overall survival rates at 1-, 2- and 3-years were 97.8%, 83.3% and 75.4%, respectively. The local control rates at 1-, 2- and 3-years were 96.4%, 96.4% and 93.1%, respectively. Radiation-induced liver disease was not documented, and 4 patients (4.4%) had their Child-Pugh score elevated by 1 point after CIRT. No grade 3 or higher acute non-hematological toxicities were observed. Six patients (6.7%) experienced grade 3 or higher late toxicities. Conclusion: The active scanning technique was clinically feasible to treat HCC by applying necessary mitigation measures for interplay effects. The desirable oncologic outcomes as well as favorable toxicity profiles presented in this study will be a valuable reference for other carbon-ion centers using the PBS technique and local effect model-based system, and add to a growing body of evidence about the role of CIRT in the management of HCC.

Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder that affects the structure and function of motile cilia, leading to classic clinical phenotypes, such as situs inversus, chronic sinusitis, bronchiectasis, repeated pneumonia and infertility. In this study, we diagnosed a female patient with PCD who was born in a consanguineous family through classic clinical manifestations, transmission electron microscopy and immunofluorescence staining. A novel DNAAF4 variant NM_130810: c.1118G>A (p. G373E) was filtered through Whole-exome sequencing. Subsequently, we explored the effect of the mutation on DNAAF4 protein from three aspects: protein expression, stability and interaction with downstream DNAAF2 protein through a series of experiments, such as transfection of plasmids and Co-immunoprecipitation. Finally, we confirmed that the mutation of DNAAF4 lead to PCD by reducing the stability of DNAAF4 protein, but the expression and function of DNAAF4 protein were not affected.

Flesh color is an important target trait in peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] breeding. In this study, two white-fleshed peach cultivars were crossed [Changsong Whitepeach (WP-1) × 'Xiacui'], and their hybrid F1 generation showed color segregation of white flesh (BF1) and yellow flesh (HF1). Metabolome analysis revealed that the flesh color segregation in the hybrid F1 generation was related to the carotenoid content. The decrease in ß-carotene and ß-cryptoxanthin in BF1 flesh and increase in ß-cryptoxanthin oleate, rubixanthin caprate, rubixanthin laurate and zeaxanthin dipalmitate in HF1 flesh contributed to their difference in carotenoid accumulation. Transcriptome analysis demonstrated that compared with BF1, HF1 showed significant up-regulation and down-regulation of ZEP and CCD8 at the core-hardening stage, respectively, while significant down-regulation of NCED in the whole fruit development stage. The down-regulation of NCED might inhibit the breakdown of the violaxanthin and its upstream substances and further promote the accumulation of carotenoids, resulting in yellow flesh. Therefore, NCED may be a key gene controlling the fruit color traits of peach. In this study, targeted metabolomics and transcriptomics were used to jointly explore the mechanism controlling the fruit color of peach, which may help to identify the key genes for the differences in carotenoid accumulation and provide a reference for the breeding of yellow-fleshed peach.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a life-threatening disease which has high mortality and lacks effective pharmacological treatments. Excessive inflammation and oxidative stress are the key pathogenesis of ALI. Mefunidone (MFD), a novel small molecule compound, displayed anti-inflammation and anti-oxidative stress effects on streptozocin (STZ) and db/db mice in our previous studies. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of MFD on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI and explore the potential molecular mechanisms. METHODS: We investigated the effects of MFD on LPS-induced ALI mouse model and LPS-stimulated immortalized mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages (iBMDMs). RESULTS: MFD could alleviate pulmonary structure disorder and attenuate pulmonary neutrophils infiltration induced by LPS. MFD could also decreased proinflammatory cytokines release and reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation stimulated by LPS. Further, MFD could significantly reduce LPS-induced phosphorylation levels of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), increase expression of nuclear factor-erythroid 2 related factor 2 (Nrf2) and restore the expressions of antioxidant enzymes. CONCLUSION: Our results firstly supported that MFD effectively protected LPS-induced ALI against inflammation and oxidative stress through inhibiting MAPK signaling pathway and activating Nrf2 pathway.

We aimed to perform a combined analysis of cortical thickness and functional connectivity to explore their association with cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD). A total of 53 PD and 15 healthy control subjects were enrolled. PD patients were divided into PD with normal cognition (PD-NC, n = 25), PD with mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI, n = 11), and PD with dementia (PDD, n = 17). In some analyses, the PD-MCI and PDD groups were aggregated to represent "PD patients with cognitive impairment". Cognitive status was assessed with the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE). Anatomical magnetic resonance imaging and resting-state functional connectivity analysis were performed in all subjects. First, surface-based morphometry measurements of cortical thickness and voxels with cortical thickness reduction were detected. Then, regions showing reduced thickness were analyzed for changes in resting-state functional connectivity in PD involving cognitive impairment. Our results showed that, compared with PD-NC, patients with cognitive impairment showed decreased cortical thickness in the left superior temporal, left lingual, right insula, and right fusiform regions. PD-MCI patients showed these alterations in the right lingual region. Widespread cortical thinning was detected in PDD subjects, including the left superior temporal, left fusiform, right insula, and right fusiform areas. We found that cortical thinning in the left superior temporal, left fusiform, and right temporal pole regions positively correlated with MMSE score. In the resting-state functional connectivity analysis, we found a decrease in functional connectivity between the cortical atrophic brain areas mentioned above and cognition-related brain networks, as well as an increase in functional connectivity between those region and the cerebellum. Alterations in cortical thickness may result in a dysfunction of resting-state functional connectivity, contributing to cognitive decline in patients with PD. However, it is more probable that the relation between structure and FC would be bidirectional,and needs more research to explore in PD cognitve decline.
