RESUMEN

Objective: To describe the COVID-19 epidemic and its characteristics in Heilongjiang province, and provide evidence for the further prevention and control of COVID-19 in the province. Methods: The information of COVID-19 cases and clusters were collected from national notifiable disease report system and management information system for reporting public health emergencies of China CDC. The Software's of Excel 2010 and SPSS 23.0 were applied for data cleaning and statistical analysis on the population, time and area distributions of COVID-19 cases. Results: On January 22, 2020, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was reported in Heilongjiang. By March 11, 2020, a total of 482 cases domestic case of COVID-19, The incidence rate was 1.28/100 000, the mortality rate was 2.70% (13/482) in 13 municipalities in Heilongjiang. There were 81 clusters of COVID-19, The number of confirmed cases accounted for 79.25% (382/482) of the total confirmed cases and 12 cases of deaths. The family clusters accounted for 86.42% (70/81). Compared with the sporadic cases, the mortality rate, proportion of elderly cases aged 60 or above and severe or critical cases of clinical classification were all higher in the clusters especially the family clusters, but the differences were not significant (P>0.05). There were 34 clusters involving more than 5 confirmed cases accounted for 41.98% (34/81) of the total clusters, the involved cases accounted for 68.31% (261/382) of the total cases of clusters. There were significant differences in age distribution of the cases among the case clusters with different case numbers. In the clusters involving 6-9 cases, the proportion of cases aged 65 years or above was more (26.53%, 39/147). Conclusions: The incidence rate of COVID-19 was relatively high and the early epidemic was serious in Heilongjiang, The number of cases was large in clusters especially family clusters.

RESUMEN

Objective: To provide scientific basis for the prevention and control of pneumoconiosis and the formulation of relevant policies, this paper discusses the loss of health life and economic loss caused by coal worker's pneumoconiosis in a mining group. Methods: From March to October 2017, 1262 cases of coal worker's pneumoconiosis were diagnosed in a mining group from 1972 to 2013. The direct and indirect economic losses are calculated by the step-by-step model method. Direct economic losses include medical expenses, one-time disability allowance, disability allowance, funeral allowance, one-time work death allowance, living and nursing expenses, food allowance, pension for supporting relatives and transportation expenses, etc. Indirect economic losses includes loss of social productivity, additional training fee for new employees, transportation fee for accompanying family members, loss of social productivity of accompanying family members, loss of production suspension and production reduction, etc. Life table method was used to calculate the loss of social productivity caused by coal worker's pneumoconiosis. Results: All 1262 coal worker's pneumoconiosis patients were male. In the stage of pneumoconiosis, 95.40% (1204/1262) of the first stage of pneumoconiosis and 42.62% (538/1262) of the seventh stage of disability. The age of diagnosis (22.02-71.33) was 47.38 years on average. 1262 coal worker's pneumoconiosis patients caused a total of 9068.54 years of health life loss, of which YLD accounted for 93.56% (8484.69/9068.54) . The loss of YLD (0.06-33.30) years in 1262 coal worker's pneumoconiosis patients was 6.70 years per capita. The total economic loss of 1262 coal workers with pneumoconiosis was 2842185447.70 yuan, with a per capita of 2252127.93 yuan. The direct economic loss accounted for 81.59% (2318990168.46/2842185447.70) , which was 4.42 times of the indirect economic loss. Among the direct economic loss per capita, medical expenses accounted for a large proportion of 50.04% (919510.84/1837551.64) . The per capita indirect economic loss is 414576.29 yuan. The loss of social productivity accounted for 56.18% (232908.95/414576.29) . Conclusion: Coal worker's pneumoconiosis causes heavy economic burden and serious loss of social productivity.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the epidemiological characteristics and current status of surgical management for esophageal cancer in China. Methods: A national database was setup through a network platform. The clinical data of esophageal cancer treated by surgery was collected from 70 major hospitals in China between January 2009 and December 2014. Results: Complete data of 8 181 cases of esophageal cancer patients who underwent surgery were recorded in the database and recruited in the analysis. Among them, 6 052 cases were male and 2 129 were female, the average age was 60.5 years. The epidemiological investigation results showed that 148 cases (1.8%) had history of psychological trauma, 7 527 cases (92.0%) were lower social economic status, 5 072 cases (62.0%) were short of fresh vegetables and fruits, 6 544 cases (80.0%) ate rough food frequently, 3 722 cases (45.5%) drank untreated water directly from lake or river or shallow well, 3 436 cases (42.0%) had a unhealthy eating habit, including habits of eating food fast (507 cases, 6.2%), eating hot food or drinking hot tea/soup (998 cases, 12.2%), eating fried food (1 939 cases, 23.7%), 4 410 cases (53.9%) had the habits of smoking cigarettes and 2 822 cases (34.5%) drank white wine frequently. The pathological results showed that 7 813 cases (95.5%) were squamous cell carcinoma, 267 cases were adenocarcinoma (3.3%), 25 cases were adenosquamous cell carcinoma (0.3%) and 50 cases were small cell carcinoma (0.6%). A total of 1 800 cases (22.0%) received preoperative neoadjuvant therapy due to locally advanced disease or difficulty of resection. The esophagectomies were performed through left thoracotomy approach in 5 870 cases (71.8%), through right chest approach in 2 215 cases (27.1%), and the remain 96 cases (1.2%) received surgery though other approaches.A total of 8 001 cases (97.8%) underwent radical resection, the other 180 cases (2.2%) received palliative resection. The 30-day postoperative mortality rate was 0.5%, the overall ≥ grade Ⅱ postoperative complication rate was 11.6% (951 cases). The 1-yr, 3-yr, and 5-yr overall actual survival rates were 82.6%, 61.6%, and 52.9%, respectively. Conclusions: The data analysis of the national database for esophageal cancer shows that bad eating habits or eating rough food without enough nutrients, lower social and economic status, drinking white wine and smoking cigarettes frequently may be correlated with tumorigenesis of esophageal cancer. However, strong evidences produced by prospective observation studies are needed. Overall, the long-term survival of esophageal cancer patients has been improved gradually due to the application of advanced surgical techniques and reasonable multimodality treatment.

RESUMEN

Esophageal cancer has a high incidence among malignancies in China, but a comprehensive picture of the status of its surgical management in China has hitherto not been available. A nationwide database has recently been established to address this issue. METHOD: A National Database was setup through a network platform, and data was collected from 70 high-volume centers (>100 esophagectomies/per year) across China. Data was entered between January 2009 and December 2014, and was analyzed in June 2015 after a minimal follow-up of 6 months for all patients. 8181 patients with complete data who received surgery for primary esophageal cancer on the Database were included in the analysis. RESULT: In this series, there were 6052 males and 2129 females, with a mean age of 60.5 years (range: 22-90 years). The pathology in 95.5% of patients was squamous cell carcinoma. The pathological stage distribution was 1.2% in stage 0, 2.5% in Ia, 11.5% in Ib, 14.8% in IIa, 36.1% in IIb, 19.3% in IIIa, 8.3% in IIIb, 6.2% in IIIc. 1800 patients (22.0%) with locally advanced disease received preoperative neoadjuvant therapy and 3592 patients (43.9%) underwent postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. The esophagectomies were performed through left thoracotomy approach in 5870 cases (72.6%), through right chest approach in 2215 cases (27.4%) including right thoracotomy (21.3%) and VATS (6.1%). The 30-day postoperative mortality rate was 0.6% (43 patients), and the overall postoperative complication rate was 11.6% (951 patients). The 1-, 3-, and 5-year overall survival rates were 82.6%, 61.6%, and 52.9%, respectively. CONCLUSION: This National Registry Database from high-volume centers provides a comprehensive picture of surgical management for esophageal cancer in China for the first time. Squamous cell carcinoma predominates, but there is heterogeneity with respect to the surgical approach and perioperative oncologic management. Overall, surgical mortality and morbidity rates are low, and good survival rates have been achieved due to improvement of surgical treatment technology in recent years.

RESUMEN

Rice vermicelli is a main food consumed in China and Southeast Asia. Quality of rice vermicelli varies with rice cultivars. Parameters including amylose content, amylopectin distribution, thermal and pasting characteristics, gel texture and starch granules of three rice cultivars "Zhongjiazao 17", "Xiangzaoxian 24" and "Thai Jasmine Rice", were studied for their impacts on vermicelli quality. Results showed significant differences for the measurements of the quality traits and indicated that a favorable quality of vermicelli was not determined by any single factor instead of a combination of multi-parameters. A vermicelli with a favorable quality could be produced from a rice variety with a high apparent amylose content (>25%), a protein content of 11%, an intermediate gelatinization temperature and gel consistency, and a gel hardness (~3 N for a Rapid Viscosity Analyzer pasting) and moderate retrogradation capacity (a setback viscosity of 30-100 RVU).

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The effect of ovarian ablation or suppression (OAS) in premenopausal women with breast cancer is controversial. The overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS) and adverse event of OAS versus no OAS were compared. METHODS: A literature review of EMBASE, Web of Science, PUBMED, and Cochrane Library was conducted. The hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for OS and DFS, as well as risk ratio (RR) and 95% CI for adverse events were evaluated. I-squared statistic (I2) represents heterogeneity. RESULTS: Twenty-nine studies with a total of 21,249 women were included. In premenopausal women aged 40 years or younger, there were significant differences in OS (HR 0.78, 95% CI: 0.66-0.94, P=0.008, I2 = 0%) and DFS (HR 0.84, 95% CI: 0.73-0.97, P=0.02, I2 = 0%) between OAS and no OAS. In advanced stage breast cancer, a significant difference was found in OS (HR 0.76, 95% CI: 0.60-0.96, P=0.02, I2 = 0%). Patients treated with OAS had more chances to have hot flushes (RR 1.91, 95% CI: 1.62-2.26, P < 0.01, I2 = 0%) and vaginal dryness (RR 1.19, 95% CI: 1.08-1.31, P=0.0003, I2 = 0%). No significant difference in depression (RR 1.28, 95% CI: 0.94-1.74, P=0.12, I2 = 0%). CONCLUSIONS: The study shows that OAS plays a beneficial role in premenopausal women aged 40 years or younger and advanced stage breast cancer. However, OAS is associated with increase in hot flushes and vaginal dryness.

RESUMEN

The cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) content in both white and wholemeal flour milled from 110 leading rice cultivars was assessed. The white flour Cd content ranged from <0.0025 to 0.2530mg/kg (geometric mean (GM)=0.0150mg/kg), while its Pb content ranged from <0.0250 to 0.3830mg/kg (GM=0.0210mg/kg). The indica types took up higher amounts of Cd and Pb than did the japonica types. Although the heavy metal content of wholemeal flour tended to higher than that of white flour, nevertheless 84.5% (Cd) and 95.4% (Pb) of the entries were compliant with the national maximum allowable concentration of 0.2000mg/kg of each contaminant. An analysis of the Cd content in the white flour of three indica type cultivars grown in two consecutive years at two locations indicated that Cd content may be significantly affected by the conditions prevailing in the growing season.

RESUMEN

This study aimed to investigate the genetic pathogeny of multiple morphological anomalies of the flagella (MMAF), which is a genetically heterogeneous disorder leading to male infertility. Nine patients with severe asthenozoospermia caused by MMAF were recruited. Whole genome sequencing and Sanger sequencing were performed, and we found that four of the nine patients were affected by the same homozygous frameshift mutation c.11726_11727delCT (p.[Pro3909ArgfsTer33]) in exon 73 of dynein axonemal heavy chain 1 ( DNAH1 ) gene. The parents and the sibling of proband 1 were all identified as heterozygous carriers. This mutation was distinct from previously reported DNAH1 mutations associated with MMAF and only affected the East Asian group. Furthermore, the variant DNAH1 protein could not be detected in spermatozoa by Western blot or immunofluorescence staining although DNAH1 mRNA was expressed in the spermatozoa. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analysis showed the anomalies in sperm flagella morphology and ultrastructure in patients carrying this genetic variant. In conclusion, our results add to knowledge of the genetic pathogeny of MMAF and further confirmed the effectiveness of genetic screening in the diagnosis of MMAF.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to compare patient outcomes between immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) after mastectomy and mastectomy alone. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive literature search of PUBMED, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. The primary outcomes evaluated in this review were overall survival, disease-free survival and local recurrence. Secondary outcome was the incidence of surgical site infection. All data were analyzed using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS: Thirty-one studies, involving of 139,894 participants were included in this paper. Pooled data demonstrated that women who had IBR after mastectomy were more likely to experience surgical site infection than those treated with mastectomy alone (risk ratios 1.51, 95% CI: 1.22-1.87; p = 0.0001). There were no significant differences in overall survival (hazard ratios 0.92, 95% CI: 0.80-1.06; p = 0.25) and disease-free survival (hazard ratios 0.96, 95% CI: 0.84-1.10; p = 0.54) between IBR after mastectomy and mastectomy alone. No significant difference was found in local recurrence between two groups (risk ratios 0.92, 95% CI: 0.75-1.13; p = 0.41). CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that IBR after mastectomy does not affect the overall survival and disease-free survival of breast cancer. Besides, no evidence shows that IBR after mastectomy increases the frequency of local recurrence.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the preventive and therapeutic effects of rapamycin (RAPA) on autoimmune hepatitis and liver fibrosis induced by concanavalin A (ConA) and possible mechanisms. METHODS: Female C57BL/6 mice aged 8 weeks were randomly divided into normal control group, ConA model group, and ConA+RAPA treatment group. The serum levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were measured; hematoxylin-eosin and Masson staining and Knodell HAI and Ishak scoring systems were used to evaluate the degrees of liver inflammation and fibrosis. Gradient centrifugation was used to separate mononuclear cells, flow cytometry was used to measure CD4(+)/CD8(+) ratio, and intracellular cytokine staining was performed to measure the levels of interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-10 (IL-10), and transforming growth factor ß (TGF-ß) in immune cells. The t-test was used for data comparison between groups. RESULTS: The RAPA treatment group showed a significant reduction in serum ALT level compared with the ConA model group (P < 0.05). Liver inflammatory injury was reduced significantly, and there was no obvious fibrous tissue proliferation. The level of TGF-ß in mononuclear cells was reduced significantly, and the treatment group had a significantly lower level of TGF-ß than the model group (8.91%±1.25% vs 16.65%±2.05%, P < 0.05). The proportions of CD4(+) and CD8(+)T cells in the liver were reduced, and the treatment group had significantly lower proportions of CD4(+) and CD8(+)T cells than the model group (proportion of CD4(+)T cells: 4.09%±1.20% vs 8.91%±0.69%, P < 0.05; proportion of CD8(+)T cells: 3.28%±0.66% vs 9.68%±1.46%, P < 0.05). The proportion of Th1 cells was reduced, and the treatment group had a significantly lower proportion of Th1 cells than the model group (1.02%±0.06% vs 2.83%±0.21%, P < 0.05); the proportions of Th3 and Tr1 regulatory T cells were increased, and the treatment group had significantly higher proportions of Th3 and Tr1 regulatory T cells than the model group (proportion of Th3 regulatory T cells: 59.53%±9.82% vs 47.13%±4.79%, P < 0.05; proportion of Tr1 regulatory T cells: 10.63%±2.27% vs 7.09%±1.66%, P < 0.05), but the proportion of Th2 cells showed no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: RAPA can promote the differentiation of Th3/Tr1 cells, reduce the expression of TGF-ß in mononuclear cells, slow down the progression of chronic hepatitis induced by ConA into liver fibrosis, and thus prevent liver fibrosis.

RESUMEN

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are multifunctional proteins, and their receptors (BMPRs) have crucial roles in the process of signaling. However, their function in cancer is somewhat inconsistent. It has been demonstrated that more prevalent expression of bone morphogenetic protein receptor 2 (BMPR2) has been detected in dedifferentiated chondrosarcomas than conventional chondrosarcomas. Here, we find that BMPR2 inhibition induces apoptosis and autophagy of chondrosarcoma. We found that BMPR2 expression was correlated with the clinicopathological features of chondrosarcomas, and could predict the treatment outcome. Knockdown of BMPR2 by small interfering RNA results in growth inhibition in chondrosarcoma cells. Silencing BMPR2 promoted G2/M cell cycle arrest, induced chondrosarcoma cell apoptosis through caspase-3-dependent pathway via repression of X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) and induced autophagy of chondrosarcoma cells via XIAP-Mdm2-p53 pathway. Inhibition of autophagy induced by BMPR2 small interfering RNA (siBMPR2) sensitized chondrosarcoma cells to siBMPR2-induced apoptotic cell death, suggesting that autophagy has a protective role for chondrosarcoma cells in context of siBMPR2-induced apoptotic cell death. In vivo tumorigenicity assay in mice indicated that inhibition of BMPR2 reduced tumor growth. Taken together, our results suggest that BMPR2 has a significant role in the tumorigenesis of chondrosarcoma, and could be an important prognostic marker for chondrosarcoma. BMPR2 inhibition could eventually provide a promising therapy for chondrosarcoma treatment.

RESUMEN

The transcription factor glioma-associated oncogene 1 (Gli1) has been recognized as a very important nuclear executor at the distal end of the Hedgehog (Hh) signal pathway, which has crucial roles in regulating many developmental processes, such as pattern formation, differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. Overexpression of patched 1 protein and Gli1 or constitutively active Indian Hedgehog (IHh)-parathyroid hormone-related protein signal pathway may lead to musculoskeletal tumorigenesis. However, for chondrosarcoma few studies have paid close attention to the IHh-Gli1 signal transduction cascade and more work needs to be carried out to fully elucidate Gli1 protein functions. Here we show that the IHh signal pathway was activated in chondrosarcoma, and knocking down the expression of Gli1 attenuated the disturbed IHh signal pathway, which not only suppressed cell proliferation and promoted G2/M cell cycle arrest but also enhanced cell apoptosis by downregulating Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl expression. Furthermore, Gli1 downregulation, not cyclopamine, induced autophagy by regulating mTOR phosphorylation, and inhibition of autophagy prevented Gli1 small interfering RNA-mediated cell death. We also demonstrated that extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 activity may mediate these antiproliferative events induced by Gli1 inhibition. These results indicate that Gli1 inhibition could ultimately provide a promising new approach for chondrosarcoma treatment.

RESUMEN

Near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) has been used to predict the cooking quality parameters of rice, such as the protein (PC) and amylose content (AC). Using brown and milled flours from 519 rice samples representing a wide range of grain qualities, this study was to compare the calibration models generated by different mathematical, preprocessing treatments, and combinations of different regression algorithm. A modified partial least squares model (MPLS) with the mathematic treatment "2, 8, 8, 2" (2nd order derivative computed based on 8 data points, and 8 and 2 data points in the 1st and 2nd smoothing, respectively) and inverse multiplicative scattering correction preprocessing treatment was identified as the best model for simultaneously measurement of PC and AC in brown flours. MPLS/"2, 8, 8, 2"/detrend preprocessing was identified as the best model for milled flours. The results indicated that NIRS could be useful in estimation of PC and AC of breeding lines in early generations of the breeding programs, and for the purposes of quality control in the food industry.

RESUMEN

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs of approximately 22 nucleotides in length, which play important roles in regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally. Several computational methods and algorithms have been developed to predict miRNA targets. In this study, we described a method that can be used to integrate miRNA target prediction data from multiple sources and gene expression data to predict target genes of particular miRNAs. We used hsa-miR-375 as an example to test the feasibility of our method. A total of 5645 target genes of hsa-miR-375 were identified from five prediction programs, and among them, 2440 target genes were shared by at least 2 of these 5 programs. By using our method, the number was further reduced to 149 and 5 of the 149 target genes had been validated by previous study. This is a simple yet highly effective approach.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study is to evaluate distribution and clinical impact of the SS18-SSX fusion gene in patients with synovial sarcoma in China. METHODS: We collected and analysed the clinical data of 88 patients using univariate and multivariate survival analysis. HEK 293T and NIH 3T3 cell lines were transfected with the SS18-SSX1 or SS18-SSX2 gene to determine the respective involvement of these fusion genes in cell proliferation and invasion. RESULTS: Overall survival was significantly better among SS18-SSX2 cases (P=0.001), FNCLCC grade 2 cases (P<0.001), and UICC stage 1 or 2 (P<0.001) by univariate and multivariate survival analysis. SS18-SSX1-positive cells were more proliferative and invasive than SS18-SSX2-positive cells. CONCLUSION: SS18-SSX fusion type is a significant prognostic factor for patients with synovial sarcoma.

RESUMEN

Scorpions rely predominantly on mechanosensory and chemosensory organs to guide their orientation behaviors. Once sensory organs are affected by the presence of dirt such as clay or prey bodily fluid, scorpions may display a cleaning behavior to reduce or eliminate its influence on their sensory capabilities. In the laboratory, cleaning behaviors of two buthid species, Mesobuthus eupeus (Koch, 1839) and Mesobuthus caucasicus (Nordmann, 1840), and one euscorpiid species, Scorpiops luridus Zhu Lourenço & Qi, 2005 from China, were observed before and after feeding. Moreover, two distinct cleaning behaviors in Scorpiops luridus and three in Heterometrus petersii (Thorell, 1876) (Scorpionidae) were noted for several times during daily activities. Based on these observations, we were able to conclude that different tools and the same tool with diverse applications are used for cleaning the same object in numerous scorpion species.(AU)

RESUMEN

The relationship between smoking and dyslipidemia was studied in 2,160 elderly Chinese males. Levels of triglycerides (TGs) in current smokers were shown to be significantly higher and levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) lower than for those who had never smoked or had stopped smoking. Interestingly, the level of apoprotein B (apoB) was more frequently abnormal in very heavy smokers compared with light smokers, while low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were more frequently normal in very heavy smokers. When comparing other factors that influence blood lipids, such as alcohol intake, body mass index (BMI), and age, smoking had the greatest influence and was shown to be an independent risk factor for dyslipidemia.

RESUMEN

Kinetic resolution of acyclic secondary allylic silyl ethers by chiral dioxiranes generated in situ from chiral ketones (R)-1 and (R)-2 and Oxone was investigated. An efficient and catalytic method has been developed for kinetic resolution of those substrates with a CCl(3), tert-butyl, or CF(3) group at the alpha-position. In particular, high selectivities (S up to 100) were observed for kinetic resolutions of racemic alpha-trichloromethyl allylic silyl ethers 7 and 9-15 catalyzed by ketones (R)-2. Both the recovered substrates and the resulting epoxides were obtained in high enantiomeric excess. On the basis of steric and electrostatic interactions between the chiral dioxiranes and the racemic substrates, a model was proposed to rationalize the enantioselectivities and diastereoselectivities in the chiral ketone-catalyzed kinetic resolution process.

RESUMEN

A general catalytic and environmentally friendly method for beta-epoxidation of delta5-unsaturated steroids has been developed, which uses ketones as the catalysts and Oxone as the terminal oxidant. A whole range of delta5-unsaturated steroids, which bear different functional groups such as hydroxyl, carbonyl, acetyl, or ketal, as well as different side chains, were conveniently converted to the corresponding synthetically and biologically interesting 5beta,5beta-epoxides with excellent beta-selectivities and high yields.
