RESUMEN

To examine the independent and combined association of resting heart rate (RHR) and physical activity (PA) with risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. RHR was categorized as < 60, 60-69, 70-79, and ≥ 80 bpm. Meeting PA guidelines was defined as ≥ 150 min/week of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). Cox proportional hazard models were used to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) for CVD mortality associated with RHR and PA. Among 31,697 participants, 311 CVD deaths occurred during 9.2 years of follow-up. Compared to RHR of 60-69 bpm, the risk of CVD mortality was higher in RHR of < 60 bpm (HR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.05-2.10) and ≥ 80 bpm (HR, 1.42; 95% CI, 1.06-1.91). Participants who met PA guidelines had a lower risk of CVD mortality (HR, 0.59; 95% CI, 0.44-0.78). Among physically inactive adults compared to participants in RHR of 60-69 bpm with meeting PA guidelines, the adjusted HR for CVD mortality was 2.41 (95% CI, 1.42-4.08) for RHR of < 60 bpm, 1.59 (95% CI, 1.01-2.49) for RHR of 60-69 bpm, 1.98 (95% CI, 1.23-3.20) for RHR of 70-79 bpm and 2.41 (95% CI, 1.50-3.89) for RHR of ≥ 80 bpm Exceeding the minimum level of PA guidelines may attenuate the risk of CVD mortality associated with RHR.

RESUMEN

As interest in eco-friendly work vehicles grows, research on the powertrains of eco-friendly tractors has increased, including research on the development of eco-friendly vehicles (tractors) using hydrogen fuel cell power packs and batteries. However, batteries require a long time to charge and have a short operating time due to their low energy efficiency compared with hydrogen fuel cell power packs. Therefore, recent studies have focused on the development of tractors using hydrogen fuel cell power packs; however, there is a lack of research on powertrain performance analysis considering actual working conditions. To evaluate vehicle performance, an actual load measurement during agricultural operation must be conducted. The objective of this study was to conduct an efficiency analysis of powertrains according to their power source using data measured during agricultural operations. A performance evaluation with respect to efficiency was performed through comparison and an analysis with internal combustion engine tractors of the same level. The specifications of the transmission for hydrogen fuel cell and engine tractors were used in this study. The power loss and efficiency of the transmission were calculated using ISO 14179-1 equations, as shown below. Plow tillage and rotary tillage operations were conducted for data measurement. The measurement system consists of four components. The engine data load measurement was calculated using the vehicle's controller area network (CAN) data, the axle load was measured using an axle torque meter and proximity sensors, and fuel consumption was measured using the sensor installed on the fuel line. The calculated capacities, considering the engine's fuel efficiency for plow and rotary tillage operations, were 131.2 and 175.1 kWh, respectively. The capacity of the required power, considering the powertrain's efficiency for hydrogen fuel cell tractors with respect to plow and rotary tillage operations, was calculated using the efficiency of the motor, inverter, and power pack, and 51.3 and 62.9 kWh were the values obtained, respectively. Considering these factors, the engine exhibited an efficiency of about 47.9% compared with the power pack in the case of plow tillage operations, and the engine exhibited an efficiency of about 29.3% in the case of rotary tillage operations. A hydrogen fuel cell tractor is considered suitable for high-efficiency and eco-friendly vehicles because it can operate on eco-friendly power sources while providing the advantages of a motor.

RESUMEN

Non-thermal plasma (NTP) is an emerging technology with extensive applications in biomedicine, including treatment of abnormal pigmentation. However, very few studies have investigated how plasma induces anti-melanogenesis. Here, liquid plasma was prepared by treating an NTP jet with helium and oxygen (as carrier gases) for 15 min in serum-free culture media. In the zebrafish model, pigmentation ratio was observed with or without liquid plasma. The anti-melanogenic effect of liquid plasma was evaluated in human melanocytes by assessing the expression of melanogenesis-related genes using western blotting, RT-PCR, and immunohistochemistry. Liquid plasma reduced pigmentation in the zebrafish model and inhibited melanin synthesis in primary human melanocytes. Intracellular reactive oxygen species levels decreased and Nrf2 expression increased in liquid plasma-treated melanocytes. Liquid plasma affected microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) and tyrosinase mRNA and protein levels, tyrosinase activity, and melanin content. Considering the role of Wnt/ß-catenin and PI3K/Akt pathways in melanogenesis, the effect of liquid plasma on this pathway was determined; liquid plasma decreased active ß-catenin, LEF1/TCF4, MITF, and tyrosinase levels in a time-dependent manner and inhibited the nuclear translocation of ß-catenin. This inhibition subsequently suppressed melanogenesis by downregulating MITF and tyrosinase. These results suggest that liquid plasma may be used for treating pigmentary disorders.

RESUMEN

Idiopathic hemiazygos vein aneurysm is a rare lesion that can be difficult to diagnose. Here we report a case of asymptomatic idiopathic hemiazygos vein aneurysm (HAVA) that was incidentally discovered on chest computed tomography (CT) and mistaken for enlarged lymph nodes. The patient underwent thoracoscopic surgery for a biopsy, which confirmed that he had an idiopathic hemiazygos aneurysm. Delayed contrast-enhanced CT was performed after surgery, and it was confirmed that the hemiazygos vein aneurysm was connected to the adjacent vessel.

RESUMEN

Evidence on the association between meeting both aerobic physical activity (PA) and muscle-strengthening activity (MSA) guidelines with mortality in individuals with hypertension is scarce. We included 34,990 adults from the 2007 to 2013 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, linking mortality follow-up data until 2019. Adherence to PA guidelines was assessed based on the current PA guidelines using a self-reported questionnaire and categorized as follows: meeting MSA only, aerobic PA only, both MSA and aerobic PA, or neither. Associations of hypertension and adherence to PA guidelines with all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality were examined using Cox proportional hazard models. Over 9.2 years, 1948 participants died from any cause and 419 from CVD. Meeting both PA guidelines was associated with the lowest risk of all-cause and CVD mortalities in the total sample regardless of hypertension status. In individuals with hypertension, meeting aerobic PA guidelines only had a 24% lower risk of both all-cause and CVD mortality, and meeting both PA guidelines further reduced risks by 40% and 43%, respectively; however, meeting MSA guidelines only was not associated with either all-cause or CVD mortality. In individuals without hypertension, only meeting both MSA and aerobic PA guidelines, but not meeting either MSA or aerobic PA guidelines, showed reduced risk of CVD mortality. In Korean population, non-hypertensive individuals who met both guidelines had a lower risk of CVD mortality. However, hypertensive individuals showed a reduced risk of both all-cause and CVD mortality when meeting aerobic PA or both guidelines, but not MSA alone.

RESUMEN

In this study, the corrosion behavior and degradation mechanism of Ti-Pt-coated stainless steel bipolar plates were investigated through electrochemical tests and surface analysis in a polymer electrolyte membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) operating environment. The coated bipolar plate has a corrosion current density of only 1.68 × 10-8 A/cm2, which is an order of magnitude lower than that of the bare SS316L substrate (1.94 × 10-7 A/cm2), indicating that its corrosion resistance is superior to that of bare SS316L substrate. However, in the PEMWE operating environment, the protection efficiency of the coating and the corrosion resistance of the coated bipolar plate decreased. The degradation of the coated bipolar plate can be attributed to electrolyte penetration into the blistering areas of the coating layer with micro voids. Defects in the coating layer occur because of the pressure of oxygen gas generated within the coating layer under high-potential conditions, thereby exposing the substrate to the electrolyte and corrosion.

RESUMEN

Aberrant mitochondrial fission/fusion dynamics are frequently associated with pathologies, including cancer. We show that alternative splice variants of the fission protein Drp1 (DNM1L) contribute to the complexity of mitochondrial fission/fusion regulation in tumor cells. High tumor expression of the Drp1 alternative splice variant lacking exon 16 relative to other transcripts is associated with poor outcome in ovarian cancer patients. Lack of exon 16 results in Drp1 localization to microtubules and decreased association with mitochondrial fission sites, culminating in fused mitochondrial networks, enhanced respiration, changes in metabolism, and enhanced pro-tumorigenic phenotypes in vitro and in vivo. These effects are inhibited by siRNAs designed to specifically target the endogenously expressed transcript lacking exon 16. Moreover, lack of exon 16 abrogates mitochondrial fission in response to pro-apoptotic stimuli and leads to decreased sensitivity to chemotherapeutics. These data emphasize the pathophysiological importance of Drp1 alternative splicing, highlight the divergent functions and consequences of changing the relative expression of Drp1 splice variants in tumor cells, and strongly warrant consideration of alternative splicing in future studies focused on Drp1.

RESUMEN

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder with significant societal and economic impacts. Current pharmacotherapies for insomnia are often accompanied by side effects, necessitating the development of new therapeutic drugs. In this study, the hypnotic effects and mechanisms of Sedum kamtschaticum 30% ethanol extract (ESK) and one of its active compounds, myricitrin, were investigated using pentobarbital-induced sleep experiments, immunohistochemistry (IHC), receptor binding assays, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The pentobarbital-induced sleep experiments revealed that ESK and myricitrin reduced sleep latency and prolonged total sleep time in a dose-dependent manner. Based on c-Fos immunostaining, ESK, and myricitrin enhanced the GABAergic neural activity in sleep-promoting ventrolateral preoptic nucleus (VLPO) GABAergic. By measuring the level of GABA released from VLPO GABAergic neurons, ESK and myricitrin were found to increase GABA release in the hypothalamus. These effects were significantly inhibited by SCH. Moreover, ESK exhibited a concentration-dependent binding affinity for the adenosine A2A receptors (A2AR). In conclusion, ESK and myricitrin have hypnotic effects, and their underlying mechanisms may be related to the activation of A2AR.

RESUMEN

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) affects squamous cells in the head and neck region and is currently ranked as the sixth most common cancer worldwide. NF-E2-related factor 2 (NRF2) plays a crucial role in cellular protection and defence mechanisms and NRF2 over-expression has been linked to various cancers; however, its role in the response of HNSCC cells remains elusive. We investigated the effects of ML385, a selective NRF2 inhibitor, on HNSCC to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms, and to assess the potential of ML385 as a therapeutic agent. We treated HNSCC cell lines with ML385 and observed a significant reduction in the expression of NRF2 and its downstream target, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), using Western blotting. We evaluated its effects on various cellular processes, including cell proliferation, cloning, migration, and wound healing, in HNSCC cell lines. ML385 treatment substantially reduced NRF2 expression, promoting a decrease in the investigated cellular activities. Additionally, we examined changes in the expression of cell-cycle-related proteins and found that ML385 induced cell cycle arrest at the G1/S phase in HNSCC cell lines. Our findings suggest that ML385 can regulate cell cycle progression, inhibit HNSCC growth, and have potential as a therapeutic agent for HNSCC.

RESUMEN

A 31-year-old male sustained life-threatening chest contusions and recovered after damage control surgery. The patient was in an unwitnessed accident where his motorcycle was struck by a car. Upon admission, blood pressure was 69/58 mmHg, heart rate was 126 bpm, and oxygen saturation was 85%. Chest computed tomography revealed fractures to right ribs 1-9 and left ribs 1-7, lung contusions, multiple lung lacerations, and right hemopneumothorax. Upon presentation to the intensive care unit, hemostasis was achieved by suturing a deeply lacerated lung and applying gauze packing. The patient was placed on veno-veno type extracorporeal membrane oxygenation using both femoral veins after surgery until the 5th hospital day. The gauze was removed during the second operation on the 6th day. The third operation on the 13th hospital day was an open reduction of ribs 3-7 on the right. The patient was discharged on the 47th day without complications.

RESUMEN

We examined the joint association of physical activity (PA) and socio-economic status (SES) on all-causes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in 6945 elderly Koreans (mean age: 71.6 years, 41.8% male) using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2013) and death data from Statistics Korea (2019). The SES included household income and education level. PA was assessed using the IPAQ and categorized according to the 2018 PA Guidelines. In stratified analyses using Cox proportional hazards by SES adherence to PA guidelines those who low household income group was associated with a reduced risk of all-cause mortality and CVD mortality, while in the lowest educational level group, it was associated with a reduced risk of all-cause mortality and CVD mortality. In the joint analysis, PA was associated with a significant reduction in all-cause mortality in all groups when compared with those who did not meet PA those who had the lowest SES. However, PA with CVD mortality risk was not significantly associated in the 'upper-middle' income and 'high school' education groups. The study revealed that PA significantly association mortality, particularly among older adults with low SES. This finding suggests the potential for targeted government interventions to promote healthy aging.

RESUMEN

Background: This study investigates the relationship between changes in physical activity levels and risk of metabolic syndrome. Methods: This study examined 1,686 adults aged 40 to 69 years from a community-based cohort study with complete 1st to 4th follow-up data between 2011 and 2020. Changes in physical activity were evaluated through baseline and follow-up surveys using physical activity questionnaires. Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria. A survival analysis was conducted using a multivariate extended Cox regression model with a significance level set at P<0.05. Results: Participants were divided into groups according to physical activity levels. The newly inactive group (vigorous physical activity ≤150 minutes at first follow-up) had a 36% increase in the hazard ratio (HR) for metabolic syndrome compared with the consistently inactive group (≤150 minutes at both baseline and first follow-up) (HR, 1.36; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04 to 1.79). The newly active group (walking ≤420 minutes per week at baseline and >420 minutes per week at first follow-up) had a 25% decrease in the HR for metabolic syndrome compared with the consistently inactive group (walking ≤420 minutes per week at both baseline and first follow-up) (HR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.57 to 0.98). Conclusion: Changes in physical activity levels are associated with risk of metabolic syndrome. These results provide important insights for future investigations into the link between physical activity changes and disease occurrence.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To prospectively investigate the influence of the menstrual cycle on the background parenchymal signal (BPS) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of the breast on diffusion-weighted MRI (DW-MRI) in healthy premenopausal women. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seven healthy premenopausal women (median age, 37 years; range, 33-49 years) with regular menstrual cycles participated in this study. DW-MRI was performed during each of the four phases of the menstrual cycle (four examinations in total). Three radiologists independently assessed the BPS visual grade on images with b-values of 800 sec/mm² (b800), 1200 sec/mm² (b1200), and a synthetic 1500 sec/mm² (sb1500). Additionally, one radiologist conducted a quantitative analysis to measure the BPS volume (%) and ADC values of the BPS (ADCBPS) and fibroglandular tissue (ADCFGT). Changes in the visual grade, BPS volume (%), ADCBPS, and ADCFGT during the menstrual cycle were descriptively analyzed. RESULTS: The visual grade of BPS in seven women varied from mild to marked on b800 and from minimal to moderate on b1200 and sb1500. As the b-value increased, the visual grade of BPS decreased. On b800 and sb1500, two of the seven volunteers showed the highest visual grade in the early follicular phase (EFP). On b1200, three of the seven volunteers showed the highest visual grades in EFP. The BPS volume (%) on b800 and b1200 showed the highest value in three of the six volunteers with dense breasts in EFP. Three of the seven volunteers showed the lowest ADCBPS in the EFP. Four of the seven volunteers showed the highest ADCBPS in the early luteal phase (ELP) and the lowest ADCFGT in the late follicular phase (LFP). CONCLUSION: Most volunteers did not exhibit specific BPS patterns during their menstrual cycles. However, the highest BPS and lowest ADCBPS were more frequently observed in EFP than in the other menstrual cycle phases, whereas the highest ADCBPS was more common in ELP. The lowest ADCFGT was more frequent in LFP.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Mediated diet and exercise methods yield effective short-term weight loss but are costly and hard to manage. However, web-based programs can serve many participants, offering ease of access and cost-efficiency. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of a web-based weight management program through web-based education alone (MINE) or combined with tailored video feedback (MINE Plus) with a control (CO) group. METHODS: This intervention included 60 Korean women with overweight and obesity (BMI≥23 kg/m2) aged 19 years to 39 years old. We randomly allocated 60 participants to each of 3 groups: (1) MINE group (web-based education video and self-monitoring app), (2) MINE Plus group (web-based education video, self-monitoring app, and 1:1 tailored video feedback), and (3) CO group (only self-monitoring app). Web-based education included nutrition, physical activity, psychological factors, medical knowledge for weight loss, goal setting, and cognitive and behavioral strategies. Tailored feedback aimed to motivate and provide solutions via weekly 10-minute real-time video sessions. The intervention lasted 6 weeks, followed by a 6-week observation period to assess the education's lasting effects, with evaluations at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks. A generalized linear mixed model was used to evaluate time and group interactions. RESULTS: In the intention-to-treat analysis including all 60 participants, there were significant differences in weight change at 6 weeks in the MINE and MINE Plus groups, with mean weight changes of -0.74 (SD 1.96) kg (P=.03) and -1.87 (SD 1.8) kg (P<.001), respectively, while no significant change was observed in the CO group, who had a mean weight increase of 0.03 (SD 1.68) kg (P=.91). After 12 weeks, changes in body weight were -1.65 (SD 2.64) kg in the MINE group, -1.59 (SD 2.79) kg in the MINE Plus group, and 0.43 (SD 1.42) kg in the CO group. There was a significant difference between the MINE and MINE Plus groups (P<.001). Significant group × time effects were found for body weight in the MINE and CO groups (P<.001) and in the MINE Plus and CO groups (P<.001), comparing baseline and 12 weeks. Regarding physical activity and psychological factors, only body shape satisfaction and health self-efficacy were associated with improvements in the MINE and MINE Plus groups (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS: This study found that the group receiving education and tailored feedback showed significant weight loss and improvements in several psychological factors, though there were differences in the sustainability of the effects. RESUMEN

A schwannoma is a tumor that arises from the Schwann cells of the peripheral nerves. Primary pulmonary schwannomas are extremely rare, although they can occur anywhere in the body. Symptoms of endobronchial schwannoma vary depending upon the extent of bronchi blockage by the tumor. Schwannoma is a benign tumor. However, there is a risk of recurrence if a lesion that has developed extraluminal growth is incompletely resected. Here, a 76-year-old female patient presented with dyspnea and cough. An endobronchial tumor was identified originating from the left lower lobe bronchus and had collapsed the left lower lobe and grown to block most of the left main bronchus. Video-assisted thoracic surgery was performed to resect the left lower lobe. The tumor was diagnosed as an ancient schwannoma.

RESUMEN

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM) can worsen in pregnant women due to pregnancy-related physiological changes. If a PAVM ruptures, it can become life-threatening. A 24-year-old female patient at 22 weeks of gestation presented to the hospital with chest pain and dyspnea. A simple chest radiograph revealed that the right lung was almost completely collapsed due to massive pleural effusion, and the heart was displaced to the opposite side. Closed thoracostomy was performed and 2 l of blood was drained. Chest CT revealed the presence of a PAVM in the right upper lung. Emergency surgery was performed to resect the PAVM through thoracoscopic pulmonary wedge resection. The patient experienced disseminated intravascular coagulation and acute renal insufficiency after the surgery, but eventually recovered and was discharged without any complications on the sixth postoperative day.

RESUMEN

Heat shock protein 47 (HSP47), also known as SERPINH1, functions as a collagen-specific molecular chaperone protein essential for the formation and stabilization of the collagen triple helix. Here, we delved into the regulatory pathways governed by HSP47, shedding light on collagen homeostasis. Our investigation revealed a significant reduction in HSP47 mRNA levels in the skin tissue of older mice as compared to their younger counterparts. The augmented expression of HSP47 employing lentivirus infection in fibroblasts resulted in an increased secretion of type I collagen. Intriguingly, the elevated expression of HSP47 in fibroblasts correlated with increased protein and mRNA levels of type I collagen. The exposure of fibroblasts to IRE1α RNase inhibitors resulted in the reduced manifestation of HSP47-induced type I collagen secretion and expression. Notably, HSP47-overexpressing fibroblasts exhibited increased XBP1 mRNA splicing. The overexpression of HSP47 or spliced XBP1 facilitated the nuclear translocation of ß-catenin and transactivated a reporter harboring TCF binding sites on the promoter. Furthermore, the overexpression of HSP47 or spliced XBP1 or the augmentation of nuclear ß-catenin through Wnt3a induced the expression of type I collagen. Our findings substantiate that HSP47 enhances type I collagen expression and secretion in fibroblasts by orchestrating a mechanism that involves an increase in nuclear ß-catenin through IRE1α activation and XBP1 splicing. This study therefore presents potential avenues for an anti-skin-aging strategy targeting HSP47-mediated processes.

RESUMEN

Esophageal bronchogenic cysts are very rare. A bronchogenic cyst is a congenital malformation resulting from abnormal sprouting of primitive bronchi because of a foregut bronchopulmonary malformation. An 18-year-old patient with a cystic tumor in the left posterior mediastinum was identified. The mediastinal tumor was removed by uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. The operation was performed in the prone position through a single 4-cm incision on the lateral scapular line in the left ninth intercostal space. After tumor resection, the dissected esophageal muscle and mediastinal pleura were sutured with two continuous barbed sutures. The operation took 80 min. A biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of esophageal bronchial cyst. Diet was started on the evening of the operation. The chest tube was removed on the 1st postoperative day, and the patient was discharged without any problems on the 2nd postoperative day.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether reader training improves the performance and agreement of radiologists in interpreting unenhanced breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A study of 96 breasts (35 cancers, 24 benign, and 37 negative) in 48 asymptomatic women was performed between June 2019 and October 2020. High-resolution DWI with b-values of 0, 800, and 1200 sec/mm² was performed using a 3.0-T system. Sixteen breast radiologists independently reviewed the DWI, apparent diffusion coefficient maps, and T1-weighted MRI scans and recorded the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) category for each breast. After a 2-h training session and a 5-month washout period, they re-evaluated the BI-RADS categories. A BI-RADS category of 4 (lesions with at least two suspicious criteria) or 5 (more than two suspicious criteria) was considered positive. The per-breast diagnostic performance of each reader was compared between the first and second reviews. Inter-reader agreement was evaluated using a multi-rater κ analysis and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). RESULTS: Before training, the mean sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the 16 readers were 70.7% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 59.4-79.9), 90.8% (95% CI: 85.6-94.2), and 83.5% (95% CI: 78.6-87.4), respectively. After training, significant improvements in specificity (95.2%; 95% CI: 90.8-97.5; P = 0.001) and accuracy (85.9%; 95% CI: 80.9-89.8; P = 0.01) were observed, but no difference in sensitivity (69.8%; 95% CI: 58.1-79.4; P = 0.58) was observed. Regarding inter-reader agreement, the κ values were 0.57 (95% CI: 0.52-0.63) before training and 0.68 (95% CI: 0.62-0.74) after training, with a difference of 0.11 (95% CI: 0.02-0.18; P = 0.01). The ICC was 0.73 (95% CI: 0.69-0.74) before training and 0.79 (95% CI: 0.76-0.80) after training (P = 0.002). CONCLUSION: Brief reader training improved the performance and agreement of interpretations by breast radiologists using unenhanced MRI with DWI.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate trends in obesity by dividing it based on body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference indicators, sedentary behavior, and leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) in Korean adults from 2014 to 2021. This study also aimed to determine the adherence rate of people with obesity to physical activity. METHODS: Data from the Korea National Health and Nutritional Examination Survey (KNHANES) from 2014 to 2021 were used. A total of 42,676 participants 19 years or older were included in the final analysis. Sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, and physical activity levels were recorded. Physical activity levels were assessed using the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire, a self-reported questionnaire. Multivariable logistic regression analysis adjusted for covariates was used to investigate the prevalence of obesity and sitting time or adherence to meeting the physical activity guidelines for each survey year. RESULTS: This study included 42,676 adults. The weighted prevalence of obesity in all ages significantly increased from 30.8% (29.1%-32.5%) in 2014 to 34.5% (32.9%-36.2%) in 2017 and 37.3% (35.5%-39.1%) in 2021 (p for trend < 0.004). The weighted adherence rate to LTPA ranged from 25.5% (95% confidence interval [CI], 23.7%-27.2%) in 2014 to 20.5% (95% CI, 18.7%-22.2%) in 2021(p for trend < 0.001). The weighted prevalence of sitting time for 8 h/day or more significantly increased from 46.7% (44.4%-49.0%) in 2014 to 56.2% (54.4%-58.0%) in 2017 and 63% (60.7%-65.3%) in 2021 (p for trend < 0.001). According to this study, the LTPA level among women with obesity was significantly low. CONCLUSION: From 2014 to 2021, obesity and sedentary behavior significantly increased and adherence to LTPA decreased among Korean adults. Given these concerning trends, comprehensive interventions are needed at the national level to encourage healthy lifestyle behaviors.
