RESUMEN

Guided by a "chemistry first" approach using molecular networking, eight new bright-blue colored natural compounds, namely dactylocyanines A-H (3-10), were isolated from the Polynesian marine sponge Dactylospongia metachromia. Starting from ilimaquinone (1), an hemisynthetic phishing probe (2) was prepared for annotating and matching structurally related natural substances in D. metachromia crude extract network. This strategy allowed characterizing for the first time in Nature the blue zwitterionic quinonoid chromophore. The solvatochromic properties of the latter are reported.

RESUMEN

The conformation of a family of α1 and α2 polyglycine-containing organo-polyoxometalates was determined through a mixed experimental/molecular dynamics approach. The flexible peptide arm folds around the metal oxide surface in a rigid arrangement in low to average polarity solvents. The topology of the hybrid is the main factor that determines which oxos from the metal-oxide surface accept a H-bond from the closest amino acid. The rest of the peptide follows in a zipper mechanism that establishes a H-bond network that locks the system. The covalent constraint leads to a new type of H-bond where two consecutive amino acids clamp down terminal oxo ligands.

RESUMEN

Bipleiophylline is a highly complex monoterpene indole alkaloid composed of two pleiocarpamine units anchored on an aromatic spacer platform. The synthesis of bipleiophylline is considered as a mountain to climb by the organic chemistry community. Here, a unified oxidative coupling protocol between indole derivatives and 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid, mediated by silver oxide, has been developed to produce the core of bipleiophylline. This method also allows the independent preparation of benzofuro[2,3-b]indolenine and isochromano[3,4-b]indolenine scaffolds, depending only on the nature of the aromatic platform used. The procedure has been applied to simple indole derivatives and to more challenging monoterpene indole alkaloids, thereby furnishing natural-product-like structures. The use of scarce pleiocarpamine as the starting indole allows the first syntheses of bipleiophylline and of its biosynthetic precursor, voacalgine A. The structure of the latter has been reassigned in the course of our investigations by 2D NMR and displays an isochromano[3,4-b]indolenine motif instead of a benzofuro[2,3-b]indolenine.

RESUMEN

The Dawson tungstovanadate [P2 W15 V3 O62 ](9-) can be grafted to secondary diolamides. The electron-withdrawing character of the polyanion increases the acidity of the amide proton, leading to an organo-polyoxometalate, which can be used as a Brønsted organocatalyst. High-field NMR and DFT modeling indicate that the amide proton stays on the nitrogen and that the exalted acidity derives from the interaction between the organic and inorganic parts of the organo-polyoxometalate. The amide-inserted vanadotungstates thus form a new family of (hybrid) heteropolyacids, offering new perspectives for the application of POM-based catalysis in organic synthesis.

RESUMEN

Grafting of a palladium complex to the Dawson vanadotungstate polyanion [P2W15V3O62](9-) via an organic ligand generates a large family of pincer-type hybrid polyoxometalates. The palladium-POM derivatives have dual catalytic properties. Unlike their parent inorganic polyanions, they catalyze allylations while retaining their oxidant character, which leads to single-pot dual site catalysis. This opens a new route for multicatalytic reactions.

RESUMEN

A series of hybrid nickel bisphosphonate (BP) polyoxometalates (POMs) has been isolated. The complexes NaK-Ni7-Ale2 (Ale = [H2O3PC(C3H6NH2)(OH)PO3H2]) and NaNH4-Ni7-Ale2 are both made of two {PW9O34} fragments enclosing a heptanuclear Ni(II) core connected to two alendronate ligands. By pre-functionalising the alendronate moiety through the amino group, the naphthalene (napht) derivative Ni7-(AleNapht)2 and the compounds Ni7-(AlePy2 Ni)2 (py = pyridyl) and Ni7-(AleAc2Ni)2 (Ac = acyl) have been obtained. Compared with the NaK-Ni7-Ale2 species, these last two complexes contain two additional Ni(II) centres connected through two bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amine or two iminodiacetate groups, respectively. This results show that it is possible to functionalise the heptanuclear POM in a controlled manner. Quantification of the magnetic interactions in NaK-Ni7-Ale2 revealed that in the {Ni7} core, ferromagnetic interactions are predominant, with a S = 5 ground state. Magnetisation versus dc field sweeps on a single crystal of NaK-Ni7-Ale2 exhibited hysteresis at low temperature. (1)H and (31)P NMR studies in aqueous solution performed on NaK-Ni7-Ale2 and Ni7-(AleNapht)2 evidenced that the PW9/Ni7/bisphosphonate assembly is stable in solution. This was completed by (31)P magic angle spinning (MAS) investigations and confirmed by (1)H DOSY experiments. The electrochemistry of these compounds proceeds through two well-defined four-electron chemically reversible waves in a medium at pH 6. NaK-Ni7-Ale2 proved to be efficient for the electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate, nitrite and nitrous oxide. Remarkably, its electrocatalytic efficiency for nitrate reduction is approximately three times higher than those previously reported for POMs in a medium at pH >4 under the same potential. The catalytic properties of two representatives of the hybrid family were also examined. It is shown that these nickel bisphosphonate polyoxotungstates are pre-catalysts for the oxidation of alcohols into ketones or carboxylic acids, depending on the classes of alcohols considered, the stoichiometric oxidant used being H2O2. Noticeably, it has been found that an analogous cobalt bisphosphonate polyoxotungstate complex does not present any related activity, highlighting the crucial role of the 3d cations on the catalytic process.
