RESUMEN

Oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species drive ischemic stroke and its related complications. New antioxidant medications are therefore crucial for treating ischemic stroke. We developed Ti2C@BSA-ISO nanocomposites loaded with the hydrophobic drug isoquercetin (ISO) encapsulated in BSA on Ti2C nano-enzymes as a novel therapeutic nanomedicine for the treatment of ischemic stroke targeting reactive oxygen species (ROS). TEM visually proved the successful preparation of Ti2C@BSA-ISO, and the FTIR, XPS, zeta potential and DLS together demonstrated the acquisition of Ti2C@BSA-ISO. In addition, the enzyme-mimicking activity of Ti2C was evaluated and the antioxidant capacity of Ti2C@BSA-ISO was verified. Ti2C@BSA-ISO was able to reverse the decrease in cellular activity caused by ROS. Experiments in vivo showed that Ti2C@BSA-ISO could promote neuroprotection and scavenging of ROS in the hippocampal CA1 area and cerebral cortex of rats, thereby inhibiting cellular death and alleviating ischaemic stroke. Specifically, Ti2C@BSA-ISO alleviated ischemic stroke by inhibiting NLRP3/caspase-1/GSDMD pathway-mediated pyroptosis. Our study demonstrates the effectiveness of nanomedicines that can be directly used as drugs for the treatment of ischemic stroke in synergy with other drugs, which greatly expands the application of nanomaterials in the treatment of ischemic stroke.

RESUMEN

Primary liver cancer is one of the most frequently diagnosed malignant tumors seen in clinics, and typically exhibits aggressive invasive behaviors, a poor prognosis, and is associated with high mortality rates. Long-term stress exposure causes norepinephrine (NE) release and activates the ß-Adrenergic receptor (ß-AR), which in turn exacerbates the occurrence and development of different types of cancers; however, the molecular mechanisms of ß-AR in liver cancer are not fully understood. In the present study, reverse transcription (RT)-PCR and RT-quantitative PCR showed that ß-AR expression was upregulated in human liver cancer cells (HepG2) compared with normal liver cells (LO2). Moreover, NE treatment promoted the growth of HepG2 cells, which could be blocked by propranolol, a ß-AR antagonist. Notably, NE had no significant effect on the migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition in HepG2 cells. Further experiments revealed that NE increased the phosphorylation levels of the extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element-binding protein (CREB), while inhibition of ERK1/2 and CREB activation significantly blocked NE-induced cell proliferation. In summary, the findings of the present study suggested that ß-adrenergic receptor activation promoted the proliferation of HepG2 cells through ERK1/2/CREB signaling pathways.

RESUMEN

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary intracranial tumor in the brain with high growth rate and high mortality rate. Cucurbitacin E (CUE), a tetracyclic triterpene compound derived from species of the genus Cucurbita, has been demonstrated to display significant antitumor effects on various malignancies. In the present study, the effects of CUE on GBM and its underlying molecular mechanisms were explored. The data revealed that CUE inhibited the proliferation of the GBM cell lines U87MG and U251MG in a dose and timedependent manner. Mechanistically, CUE reduced the phosphorylation of focal adhesion kinase (FAK), protein kinase B (AKT), and glycogen synthase kinase3ß (GSK3ß) at both basal and epidermal growth factor (EGF)induced levels. Moreover, CUE inhibited the proliferation of U87MG and U251MG cells by blocking EGFinduced phosphorylation of the FAK, AKT and GSK3ß. Subsequently, CUE reduced the expression of cyclinD1 and cyclinB1. Collectively, these results indicated that CUE inhibited the proliferation of U87MG and U251MG cells by suppressing the FAK/AKT/GSK3ß signaling pathway, which also suggested that CUE has potential application in treating GBM.

RESUMEN

Objective: There is limited evidence that atmospheric pollutants are associated with the number of allergic rhinitis (AR) visits. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between atmospheric pollutants and meteorological factors and the number of daily visits for AR in Hohhot City, providing a theoretical basis for further research on the effects of atmospheric pollutants on AR. Methods: Microsoft Excel 2016 was used to collect and organize the AR outpatient consultation data, air pollution and meteorological data in Hohhot City during 2018-2020, and the data were descriptively analyzed and Spearman correlation test was performed using SPSS22.0; A generalized additive model was built in R4.2.3 to analyze the effect of air pollution on the number of AR visits and its lagged and cumulative effects, while the robustness of the model was tested using a two-pollutant analysis. Finally, we analyzed the effects of the interaction of temperature, relative humidity and pollutants on the number of AR visits. Results: The daily average concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, CO, and O3 in Hohhot during 2018-2020 were 38.1 µg/m3, 83.3 µg/m3, 36.1 µg/m3, 15.1 µg/m3, 14.2 mg/m3, and 99.95 µg/m3, respectively, with the concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 exceeding the secondary limit of the national standard. The results of the generalized additive model analysis showed that the RR and 95% CI of the effect of each 10 µg/m3 increase in pollutant concentration (1 mg/m3 increase in CO) on the number of AR outpatient clinics were 1.008 (1.001-1.016), 1.002 (1-1.005), 1.072 (1.033-1.113), 1.020 (1007-1.034), 1.033 (1.014-1.052), 0.987 (0.9804-0.9936). Conclusion: Short-term exposure to PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, and CO was significantly associated with an increase in AR clinic visits, and short-term exposure to O3 was significantly associated with a decrease in allergic rhinitis clinic visits.

RESUMEN

Objective: Preterm birth (PTB) is considered as a public health problem and one of the main risk factors related to the global disease burden. The purpose of this study aims to explore the influence of exposure to major air pollutants at different pregnancies on PTB. Methods: The relationship between air pollutants and PTB in China was collected from cohort studies and case-control studies published before 30 April 2022. Meta-analysis was carried out with STATA 15.0 software. Results: A total of 2,115 papers were retrieved, of which 18 papers met the inclusion criteria. The comprehensive effect of pollutant exposure and PTB were calculated. PM2.5 during entire pregnancy and O3 exposure during third trimester were positively associated with preterm birth. Every 10 µg/m3 increase in the average concentration of PM2.5 during the whole pregnancy will increase the risk of premature delivery by 4%, and every 10 µg/m3 increase in the average concentration of O3 in the third trimester will increase the risk of premature delivery by 1%. Conclusion: Exposure to PM2.5 entire prenatal pregnancy and O3 in third trimester is associated with an increased risk of preterm birth occurrence.

RESUMEN

Objective@#To explore the correlation between serum vitamin D level and glucose and lipid metabolism among primary and middle school students in Inner Mongolia, so as to providing a scientific basis for guiding rational vitamin D supplementation among primary and middle school students in Inner Mongolia Region.@*Methods@#A total of 2 206 students of primary and middle school students from 8 counties (districts) in Inner Mongolia were enrolled for a questionnaire survey, physical examination, and laboratory test by a multi stage stratified random sampling approach. The levels of fasting blood glucose, blood lipid and other related indexes with different vitamin D levels were analyzed, and their correlation was further discussed.@*Results@#The deficiency and insufficiency rates of vitamin D among primary and middle school students were 33.2% and 42.8%, respectively, and the suitable rate was 24.0%. The body mass index (BMI) and waist height ratio (WHtR) of the vitamin D deficiency group [(22.87±7.41) kg/m 2 , 0.46±0.08)]were higher than the insufficiency [(20.59±8.00)kg/m 2, 0.44±0.09)] and suitable group [(18.01±7.38)kg/m 2, 0.43 ±0.08)] ( P <0.05). Compared with the vitamin D suitable group [(3.87±0.85) mmol/L], the total cholesterol (TC) level in the deficiency group [(3.73±0.67)mmol/L] decreased, with a statistically significant difference ( P <0.05). The levels of high density lipoproteins (HDL) in the vitamin D insufficiency[(1.40±0.33)mmol/L] and deficiency groups [(1.34±0.31)mmol/L] were lower than the suitable group [(1.48±0.34)mmol/L], with a statistically significant difference ( P <0.05). The detection rate of hyperuricemia (HUA) in the vitamin D deficiency group (22.95%) was higher than the suitable group (17.20%), with a statistically significant difference ( P <0.016 7). Pearson correlation analysis showed that vitamin D was negatively correlated with BMI and WHtR ( r =-0.23, -0.11), and positively correlated with TC and HDL level ( r =0.06, 0.16) ( P <0.05).@*Conclusions@#The deficiency and insufficiency rates of serum vitamin D among primary and middle school students in Inner Mongolia are high which are associated with several indicators of blood lipids. Therefore, it is recommended to supplement vitamin D preparations in moderation in daily life.

RESUMEN

Although numerous studies have linked asthma to air temperature and pollution, few studies have examined their interactive effects on asthma outpatient visits. This study investigated how air pollutants and their interactions with temperature affect asthma outpatient visits in a city in northern Chinaduring the time period 2018 - 2020 . . As the results, 24,163 asthma outpatients were recorded, a 10-µg/m3 increase in PM10, PM2.5, SO2, and NO2 concentrations was associated with significant increases in visits of 3.47% (95% CI: 2.35%-4.60%), 0.83% (95% CI: 0.36%-1.30%), 3.17% (95% CI: 1.47%-4.90%), and 8.90% (95% CI: 6.09%-11.79%), respectively. The effect was stronger in females than males, and stronger in the elderly (≥65 years) than among the young. The interaction between low temperatures and high air pollution levels significantly increased the number of asthma outpatient visits. This study emphasizesthe importance of reducing air pollution in order to lessen the effects of cold.

RESUMEN

Groundwater is an important natural resource of drinking water in rural areas in Inner Mongolia, China. In this study, 4438 drinking groundwater samples were collected from the rural areas of 81 counties in Inner Mongolia, and were analyzed for 16 parameters, including pH, total hardness (TH), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total dissolved solids (TDS), sulfate (SO42-), chloride (Cl-), fluoride (F-), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), aluminum (Al), cuprum (Cu), zinc (Zn). The groundwater quality was evaluated with water quality index (WQI) and human health risk assessment (HRA). Monte Carlo simulation were applied for the uncertainty and sensitivity analysis in the health risk assessment. The spatial map was employed based on the inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation technique. The results reveal that while the hazard quotient (HQ) suggests that the risk of single element contamination is feeble, the hazard index (HI) indicates a potential health risk for the local population. The observed cumulative carcinogenic risk (CCR) indicates a probable risks of carcinogenic health hazards in the study area. The sensitivity analysis revealed that daily ingestion rate (IR), exposure frequency (EF), and the concentrations of As, Mn, F-, and Cr are the most influential parameters for health hazards. The highly polluted areas are mainly distributed in the central and western regions of Inner Mongolia, including Xianghuangqi, New Barag Zuoqi, and Togtoh. It is observed that the groundwater may cause a potential health risk after long-term ingestion. The results of this study will contribute to groundwater management and protection in Inner Mongolia.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To assess the impact of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor control on health-related quality of life (HRQoL), as well as the other influencing factors of HRQoL among high CVD risk individuals. METHODS: From 2015 to 2017, residents of six villages or communities in Inner Mongolia, selected using a multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method, were invited to complete a questionnaire and undergo physical examination and laboratory testing. We selected participants whose predicted 10-year risk for CVD exceeded 10% as those with high CVD risk. HRQoL in individuals with high CVD risk was investigated based on the EuroQol-5 Dimension (EQ-5D) scale. The Chinese utility value integral system was used to calculate EQ-5D utility scores, and the Tobit regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors of HRQoL among individuals with high CVD risk. RESULTS: Of 13,359 participants with high CVD risk, 65.63% reported no problems in any of the five dimensions; the most frequently reported difficulty was pain/discomfort. The median utility score was 1.000 (0.869, 1.000). Participants with hypertension, and uncontrolled glycemic and blood lipids had lower HRQoL. In addition, sex, age, living environment, education level, household income, and medical insurance were influencing factors of HRQoL. CONCLUSION: Sex, age, living environment, education level, household income, medical insurance, hypertension, and whether glycemic and blood lipids control or not are related to HRQoL of high CVD risk individuals.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: MicroRNA-126 (miR-126) has been investigated in autoimmune diseases and organ failures, whereas its implication in sepsis is rarely reported. Our study initially explored the value of miR-126 in diagnosing sepsis and predicting disease severity, degree of inflammation, and mortality. METHODS: Totally, 208 sepsis patients and 210 healthy controls were enrolled; then, their plasma samples were collected for detecting circulating miR-126 by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. For sepsis patients, their cytokine levels in plasma samples were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS: miR-126 was upregulated in sepsis patients compared with healthy controls, and it was of certain value in distinguishing sepsis patients from healthy controls (AUC: 0.726 (95% CI: 0.678-0.774)). miR-126 expression was positively correlated with acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II score, serum creatinine, and C-reactive protein but not albumin or white blood cell count in sepsis patients. Regarding cytokines, miR-126 was positively correlated with tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-8, but negatively correlated with IL-10 in sepsis patients. As for mortality, miR-126 expression was higher in deaths compared with survivors, and ROC curve displayed that it could predict mortality of sepsis patients to some extent with AUC of 0.619 (95% CI: 0.533-0.705). CONCLUSION: miR-126 potentially serves as an assistant diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for sepsis.

RESUMEN

AIM: This study aims to determine the characteristics and severity of suicide mortality in Inner Mongolia between 2008 and 2015. METHODS: The death data between 2008 and 2015 was collected from the Death Registry System,1 and the suicide mortality were calculated. Suicide mortality for total of eight years and two periods (2008-2011 and 2012-2015) were tested by the X2-test. Logistic regression analysis was used to test the risk of suicide between these two observation periods by gender and region. The age-specific suicide mortality was displayed through a semi-logarithmic line chart using Pearson's correlation coefficients. Then, the prohibited pesticides and proportion of organophosphorus pesticides were calculated. RESULTS: The suicide mortality (7.20/105) in 2008-2011 was higher than the suicide mortality (4.84/105) in 2012-2015 (X2 = 62.28, P = 0.00). Intentional self-poisoning by and exposure to pesticides2 and intentional self-harm by hanging3 were the two main ways of suicide, accounting for nearly 80%. The all-cause suicide mortality increased with age (r = 0.837, P = 0.005) in 2008-2011 and (r = 0.863, P = 0.003) in 2012-2015, and suicide mortality was higher in males than in females. LIMITATION: The DRS did not provide the pesticides used by people who committed suicide by pesticide poisoning. CONCLUSION: Suicide mortality dropped like a waterfall in Inner Mongolia between 2008 and 2015, and the most obvious drop was pesticide suicide. The general drop in suicide mortality, especially the drop in pesticide poisoning suicide mortality, may be attributable to social policies that benefited the residents and the prohibition of selected pesticides. Favorable policies can effectively decrease suicide mortality.

RESUMEN

This study assessed the relationship between occupation and Intracerebral Hemorrhage-related deaths and compared the differences in ICH-related deaths rates between the eastern and midwestern regions of Inner Mongolia. We used the case-control method. Cases included Intracerebral Hemorrhage-related deaths that occurred from 2009 to 2012 in Inner Mongolia while controls included non-circulatory system disease deaths that occurred during the same period. Odds ratios (ORs) for Intracerebral Hemorrhage-related deaths were calculated using logistic regression analysis, estimated according to occupation, and adjusted for marital status and age. The Intracerebral Hemorrhage mortality rate in the eastern regions (125.19/100000) was nearly 3 times higher than that in the midwestern regions (45.31/100000). ORs for agriculture-livestock workers, service professionals and general workers, professional workers and senior officials were in descending order. The age-adjusted OR for Intracerebral Hemorrhage-related deaths was lowest in unmarried men senior officials (OR 0.37, 95% CI 0.14-0.99). The Intracerebral Hemorrhage mortality rate in the eastern regions was much higher than that of the midwestern regions, since about 90% of Intracerebral Hemorrhage-related deaths in the eastern regions were those of agriculture-livestock workers who has the largest labor intensity of any other occupation assessed.
