Fast transport of monovalent ions is imperative in selective monovalent ion separation based on membranes. Here, we report the in situ growth of crown ether@UiO-66 membranes at a mild condition, where dibenzo-18-crown-6 (DB18C6) or dibenzo-15-crown-5 is perfectly confined in the UiO-66 cavity. Crown ether@UiO-66 membranes exhibit enhanced monovalent ion transport rates and mono-/divalent ion selectivity, due to the combination of size sieving and interaction screening effects toward the complete monovalent ion dehydration. Specifically, the DB18C6@UiO-66 membrane shows a permeation rate (e.g., K+) of 1.2 mol per square meter per hour and a mono-/divalent ion selectivity (e.g., K+/Mg2+) of 57. Theoretical calculations and simulations illustrate that, presumably, ions are completely dehydrated while transporting through the DB18C6@UiO-66 cavity with a lower energy barrier than that of the UiO-66 cavity. This work provides a strategy to develop efficient ion separation membranes via integrating size sieving and interaction screening and to illuminate the effect of ion dehydration on fast ion transport.

The main aim of class discriminative universal adversarial perturbations (CD-UAPs) is that the adversary can flexibly control the targeted class and influence remaining classes limitedly. CD-UAPs generated by the existing attack strategies suffer from a high fooling ratio of non-targeted source classes under non-targeted and targeted attacks, and face the increasing risk of discovery. In this paper, we propose a training framework for generating enhanced covertness CD-UAPs. It trains the targeted source class set and the non-targeted source classes set alternately to update the perturbation and introduces logit pairing to mitigate the influence of perturbation on the non-targeted source classes set. Further, we extend CD-UAPs on the targeted (one-targeted) attack to the multi-targeted attack, which perturbs a targeted source class to multiple targeted sink classes that seriously threaten the current scenario. It can not only provide the adversary with freedom of precise attack but reduce the risk of being detected. This attack poses a strong threat to security-sensitive applications. Extensive experiments on the CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100 and ImageNet datasets show our method can generate more deceptive perturbations and enhance the covertness of CD-UAPs. For example, our method improves the absolute fooling ratio gaps of ResNet-20 and VGG-16 by 9.46% and 6.94% compared with the baseline method, respectively. We achieve the multi-targeted attack with a high fooling ratio on the GTSRB dataset. The average absolute target fooling ratio gaps of ResNet-20 and VGG-16 are 81.89% and 76.33%, respectively.

The potential toxicity of flupyradifurone (FPF) to honey bees has been a subject of controversy in recent years. Understanding the effect of pesticides on nurse bees is important because the fitness of nurse bees is critical for in-hive activities, such as larval survival and performing hive maintenance. In order to evaluate the acute oral toxicity of flupyradifurone on nurse bees, flupyradifurone at five different concentrations was selected to feed both larvae and nurse bees. Our results showed that nurse bees were more sensitive to flupyradifurone than larvae (LD50 of the acute oral toxicity of flupyradifurone was 17.72 µg a.i./larva and 3.368 µg a.i./nurse bee). In addition, the apoptotic rates of neurons in mushroom bodies of nurse bees were significantly induced by flupyradifurone at sublethal concentrations (8 mg/L, 20 mg/L, and 50 mg/L) and the median lethal concentration LC50 (125 mg/L). The expression of immune-related genes (Hsp90, Toll-8/Tollo, and defensin) was significantly changed in exposed nurse bees at the field-realistic concentration of flupyradifurone. However, three detoxifying enzyme genes (CYP9Q1, -2, and -3) were not affected by pesticide exposure. Our data suggest that although flupyradifurone had a relatively lower acute oral toxicity than many other common pesticides, exposures to the field-realistic and other sublethal concentrations of flupyradifurone still have cytotoxicity and immune-responsive effects on nurse bees. Therefore, flupyradifurone should be considered for its application in crops.

Exchange bias (EB) is highly desirable for widespread technologies. Generally, conventional exchange-bias heterojunctions require excessively large cooling fields for sufficient bias fields, which are generated by pinned spins at the interface of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic layers. It is crucial for applicability to obtain considerable exchange-bias fields with minimum cooling fields. Here, an exchange-bias-like effect is reported in a double perovskite, Y2 NiIrO6 , which shows long-range ferrimagnetic ordering below 192 K. It displays a giant bias-like field of 1.1 T with a cooling field of only 15 Oe at 5 K. This robust phenomenon appears below 170 K. This fascinating bias-like effect is the secondary effect of the vertical shifts of the magnetic loops, which is attributed to the pinned magnetic domains due to the combination of strong spin-orbit coupling on Ir, and antiferromagnetically coupled Ni- and Ir-sublattices. The pinned moments in Y2 NiIrO6 are present throughout the full volume, not just at the interface as in conventional bilayer systems.

ABSTRACT: Penicilliosis marneffei is an extremely rare fungal infectious disease and is especially rare in people with normal immunity. Penicilliosis marneffei restricted to the lung and involving the formation of a pulmonary tumor is difficult to distinguish from peripheral lung cancer. This kind of case has rarely been reported. We report the case of a 53-year-old man with penicilliosis marneffei misdiagnosed as lung cancer by 18 F-FDG PET/CT.

OBJECTIVES: Central nervous system leukemia (CNSL) is one of the main causes of recurrence and death in patients with acute leukemia. This study aims to dynamically monitor minimal residual disease (MRD) in cerebrospinal fluid and bone marrow of patients with different types of acute leukemia by flow cytometry (FCM), and to compare the timeliness and consistency of MRD detection between the 2 methods to further explore the application value of monitoring MRD in cerebrospinal fluid. METHODS: A total of 199 patients with acute leukemia admitted to the Guangdong Provincial people's Hospital between October 2018 and January 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, and multiparametric FCM method was adopted to summarize and analyze MRD in cerebrospinal fluid of patients with different types of leukemia and MRD in cerebrospinal fluid and bone marrow specimens of the same patients, and its role in assessing the prognostic value of patients was discussed. RESULTS: Among the 199 acute leukemia cases, a total of 31 cases (15.58%) were positive MRD in the cerebrospinal fluid, of which 18 cases (58%) were detected earlier than the corresponding bone marrow specimens. Among the 19 patients with acute T lymphoblastic leukemia, 134 patients with acute B lymphoblastic leukemia, and 46 patients with acute myeloid leukemia counted, there were 4, 18, and 9 patients with positive MRD in the cerebrospinal fluid. The Kappa value of the concordance test between the results of cerebrospinal fluid MRD and bone marrow MRD in different types of acute leukemia was only 0.156, demonstrating a low concordance between them. CONCLUSIONS: Dynamic monitoring of cerebrospinal fluid MRD by FCM can be used as a monitoring index for central nervous system leukemia, and monitoring cerebrospinal fluid can detect MRD earlier compared with bone marrow, which complements each other as a sensitive index for evaluating prognosis with significant guidance in clinic.

A distributed fiber optic hydrophone (DFOH) is a new type of fiber optic hydrophone (FOH) with adjustable structure. The dependence of the directivity of a DFOH on array structure is theoretically and experimentally studied. The directivity function of a sensing channel and that of a DFOH are derived. Based on the directivity function, the simulations are performed. Finally, the theoretical analysis is demonstrated by the experiments performed on Qingyang lake, and the results reveal that the longer sensing channel length guarantees the lower first-order side lobe and the narrower main lobe. As the channel length increased from 1 to 3, the main lobe width and first-order side lobe height decreased by 4.9° and 6 dB, respectively. In addition, channel spacing is irrelevant to directivity as the spacing is shorter than the wavelength. As the channel spacing increased from 0 to 1, the variations of the main lobe width and first-order side lobe height are lower than 0.5° and 0.94 dB, respectively. This study would provide guidance for the structure design of a distributed fiber optic hydrophone in signal processing.

Clinically, the metastasis of tumor cells is the key factor of death in patients with cancer. In this study, we used a model of metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) to explore the effects of a new chemical, cinobufagin (CB), combined with cisplatin (DDP). We observed that chemically synthesized CB strongly decreased the metastasis of NPC. Furthermore, a better therapeutic effect was shown when CB was combined with DDP. Molecular analysis revealed that CB induced ENKUR expression by deregulating the PI3K/AKT pathway and suppressing c-Jun, an oncogenic transcriptional factor that binds to the ENKUR promoter and negatively modulated its expression in NPC. ENKUR as a tumor suppressor binds to MYH9 and decreases its expression by recruiting ß-catenin via its enkurin domain to prevent its nuclear accumulation, which therefore suppresses c-Jun-induced MYH9 expression. Subsequently, downregulated MYH9 reduces the enlistment of E3 ligase UBE3A and thus decreases the UBE3A-mediated ubiquitination degradation of p53, a key tumor suppressor that decreases epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Clinical sample analysis demonstrated that the ENKUR expression level was significantly reduced in NPC tissues. Its decreased expression substantially promoted clinical progression and reflected poor prognosis for patients with NPC. This study demonstrated that CB induced ENKUR to repress the ß-catenin/c-Jun/MYH9 signal and thus decreased UBE3A-mediated p53 ubiquitination degradation. As a result, the EMT signal was inactivated to suppress NPC metastasis.

AML is the most common blood cancer in adults with a high relapse and an overall poor survival rate. NK cells have been demonstrated to have the capacity to eradicate AML blast, and an impaired NK cell function is involved in AML development and progression. Immune checkpoints are involved in immune escape in various cancers. Immune checkpoints blockade therapy mainly aimed to unleash CD8+T cells function, but NK cells have emerged as new target. However, immune checkpoints profile on NK cells has not been observed in AML patients. Here, we studied the immune checkpoints expression of NK cells from AML patients at initial diagnosis and found increased PD-1, TIGIT and TIM-3 expression compared to NK cells from healthy donors. Further analysis showed that TIGIT expressing NK cells from AML patients had a dysfunctional phenotype, as TIGIT+NK cells exhibit lower antileukemia effect, cytokine production and degranulation compared to TIGIT-NK cells. TIGIT blockade could significantly enhance the function of NK cells. Moreover, AML patients with high frequency of TIGIT+NK cells had higher frequency of poor prognosis risk. Further analysis found that IL-10 upregulated TIGIT expression on NK cells. Thus, TIGIT blockade alone or in combination with other therapy might be potential strategy to treat AML.

Reliable diagnostics are necessary to identify influenza infections, and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) highlights the need to develop highly specific and sensitive viral detection methods to distinguish severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and other respiratory pathogens to prevent their further spread. In this prospective study, 1070 clinical respiratory samples were collected from patients with acute respiratory infections from January 2019 to February 2021 to evaluate the diagnostic performance of a multiplex probe amplification (MPA) assay, designed to screen 18 pathogens, mainly those causing acute respiratory infections. Ninety-six positive samples and twenty negative samples for the 18 respiratory pathogens defined by the MPA assay and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were further confirmed by reference next-generation sequencing (NGS). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of the MPA assay were 95.00%, 93.75%, 98.96% and 75.00%, respectively. Additionally, the co-infection rate for these positive samples were 25% (24/95). The MPA assay demonstrated a highly concordant diagnostic performance with NGS in the diagnosis of 18 respiratory pathogens and might play an important role in clinical respiratory pathogen diagnosis.

The plant root is an important storage organ that stores indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) from the apical meristem, as well as nitrogen, which is obtained from the external environment. IAA and nitrogen act as signaling molecules that promote root growth to obtain further resources. Fluctuations in the distribution of nitrogen in the soil environment induce plants to develop a set of strategies that effectively improve nitrogen use efficiency. Auxin integrates the information regarding the nitrate status inside and outside the plant body to reasonably distribute resources and sustainably construct the plant root system. In this review, we focus on the main factors involved in the process of nitrate- and auxin-mediated regulation of root structure to better understand how the root system integrates the internal and external information and how this information is utilized to modify the root system architecture.

BACKGROUND: It is valuable to predict the time to the development of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) in patients with advanced prostate cancer (PCa). This study aimed to build and validate a nomogram incorporating the clinicopathologic characteristics and the parameters of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) to predict the time to CRPC after androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). METHODS: Patients with PCa were divided into the training (n = 183) and validation cohorts (n = 37) for nomogram construction and validation. The clinicopathologic characteristics and CEUS parameters were analyzed to determine the independent prognosis factors and serve as the basis of the nomogram to estimate the risk of 1-, 2-, and 3-year progress to CRPC. RESULTS: T stage, distant metastasis, Gleason score, area under the curve (AUC), prostate-specific antigen (PSA) nadir, and time to PSA nadir were the independent predictors of CRPC (all P < 0.05). Three nomograms were built to predict the time to CRPC. Owing to the inclusion of CEUS parameter, the discrimination of the established nomogram (C-index: 0.825 and 0.797 for training and validation datasets) was improved compared with the traditional prediction model (C-index: 0.825 and 0.797), and when it excluded posttreatment PSA, it still obtained an acceptable discrimination (C-index: 0.825 and 0.797). CONCLUSIONS: The established nomogram including regular prognostic indicators and CEUS obtained an improved accuracy for the prediction of the time to CRPC. It was also applicable for early prediction of CRPC when it excluded posttreatment PSA, which might be helpful for individualized diagnosis and treatment.

OBJECTIVE: AML is a heterogeneous disease both in genomic and proteomic backgrounds, and variable outcomes may appear in the same cytogenetic risk group. Therefore, it is still necessary to identify new antigens that contribute to diagnostic information and to refine the current risk stratification. METHODS: The expression of C-type lectin-like molecule-1 (CLL-1) in AML blasts was examined in 52 patients with newly diagnosed or relapsed/refractory AML and was compared with two other classic markers CD33 and CD34 in AML, in order to assess the value of CLL-1 as an independent biomarker or in combination with other markers for diagnosis in AML. Subsequently, the value of CLL-1 as a biomarker for prognosis was assessed in this malignant tumor. RESULTS: The results showed that CLL-1 was expressed on the cell surface of the majority of AML blasts (78.8%) and also expressed on leukemic stem cells in varying degree but absent on normal hematopoietic stem cells. Notably, CLL-1 was able to complement the classic markers CD33 or CD34. After dividing the cases into CLL-1high and CLL-1low groups according to cutoff 59.0%, we discovered that event-free survival and overall survival (OS) of the CLL-1low group were significantly lower than that of the CLL-1high group, and low CLL-1 expression seems to be independently associated with shorter OS. CONCLUSIONS: These preliminary observations identified CLL-1 as a biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis of AML.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in Chinese and other Southeast Asians. We aimed to explore the precise mechanism for NESG1 in NPC for understanding the pathogenesis of NPC. Transwell, Boyden assays, and wounding healing were respectively performed for cell metastasis. The microRNA (miRNA) microarray and luciferase reporter assays were designed to clarify NESG1-modulated miRNAs and miR-1254-targeted protein. Western blotting assays examined the pathways regulated by miR-1254, the (Hepatoma-Derived Growth Factor) HDGF/DDX5 complex, and NESG1. The chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA), and co-immunoprecipitation (coIP) assays were used to explore the DNA-protein complex and protein-protein complex. NESG1 suppressed NPC migration and invasion via Wnt/ß-catenin signaling. Further, miR-1254 was confirmed as a positive downstream modulator of NESG1 reducing metastatic abilities of NPC cells in vivo and in vitro. Transduction of HDGF significantly restored cell migration and invasion ability in miR-1254-overexpressing NPC cells. In clinical samples, miR-1254 expression was negatively correlated with HDGF and positively correlated with NESG1 expression. miR-1254 acts as an independent prognostic factor for NPC, which was induced by NESG1 to suppress NPC metastasis via inactivating Wnt/ß-catenin pathway and its downstream EMT signals.

The simple ABO3 and A-site-ordered AA'3B4O12 perovskites represent two types of classical perovskite functional materials. There are well-known simple perovskites with ferroelectric properties, while there is still no report of ferroelectricity due to symmetry breaking transition in A-site-ordered quadruple perovskites. Here we report the high pressure synthesis of an A-site-ordered perovskite PbHg3Ti4O12, the only known quadruple perovskite that transforms from high-temperature centrosymmetric paraelectric phase to low-temperature non-centrosymmetric ferroelectric phase. The coordination chemistry of Hg2+ is changed from square planar as in typical A-site-ordered quadruple perovskite to a rare stereo type with 8 ligands in PbHg3Ti4O12. Thus PbHg3Ti4O12 appears to be a combinatory link from simple ABO3 perovskites to A-site-ordered AA'3Ti4O12 perovskites, sharing both displacive ferroelectricity with former and structure coordination with latter. This is the only example so far showing ferroelectricity due to symmetry breaking phase transition in AA'3B4O12-type A-site-ordered perovskites, and opens a direction to search for ferroelectric materials.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the rate of adverse reaction toward rabies vaccine in China from 2008 to 2019, explore its characteristics and to provide a scientific and objective basis for future policy decisions. METHODS: Literature on the rate of adverse reaction to rabies vaccine in China from 2008 to 2019 was retrieved and collected in CNKI, Wanfang, VIP databases, PubMed and Embase. A meta analysis was carried out then. RESULTS: Totally, 35 articles were included. The combined rate of adverse reaction to rabies vaccine was 5.6% (95% CI = 5.1% - 6.0%). Adverse reactions to rabies vaccine were 11.3% and 4.5% before and after 2011, 5.3% and 7.1% in the eastern and midwestern regions, 13.2%, 25.5% and 3.7% in the tertiary hospitals, secondary hospitals and primary medical institutions, respectively. And 13.3% were in the areas where the Changchun immortal vaccine was used. The combined rate of adverse reaction to rabies vaccine inoculated in Changsheng vaccine area was 5.1%. CONCLUSION: After 2011, the rate of adverse reaction to rabies vaccine in China has decreased dramatically. The rate of adverse reaction to rabies vaccine in the midwestern regions is higher than the counterpart in the eastern regions. The primary medical institutions are lower than the counterpart in the tertiary and secondary hospitals.

Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing are adopted widely in daily life and industrial production. Sensors of IoT equipment gather personal, sensitive and important data, which is stored in a cloud server. The cloud helps users to save cost and collaborate. However, the privacy of data is also at risk. Public-key encryption with keyword search (PEKS) is convenient for users to use the data without leaking privacy. In this article, we give a scheme of PEKS for a multi-user to realize the multi-keyword search at once and extend it to show a rank based on keywords match. The receiver can finish the search by himself or herself. With private cloud and server cloud, most users' computing can be outsourced. Moreover, the PEKS can be transferred to a multi-user model in which the private cloud is used to manage receivers and outsource. The store cloud and the private cloud both obtain nothing with the keyword information. Then our IoT devices can easily run these protocols. As we do not use any pairing operations, the scheme is under more general assumptions that means the devices do not need to take on the heavy task of calculating pairing.

A crucial issue in cuprates is the extent and mechanism of the coupling of the lattice to the electrons and the superconductivity. Here we report Cu K edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements elucidating the internal quantum tunneling polaron (iqtp) component of the dynamical structure in two heavily overdoped superconducting cuprate compounds, tetragonal YSr2Cu2.75Mo0.25O7.54 with superconducting critical temperature, Tc = 84 K and hole density p = 0.3 to 0.5 per planar Cu, and the tetragonal phase of Sr2CuO3.3 with Tc = 95 K and p = 0.6. In YSr2Cu2.75Mo0.25O7.54 changes in the Cu-apical O two-site distribution reflect a sequential renormalization of the double-well potential of this site beginning at Tc, with the energy difference between the two minima increasing by ∼6 meV between Tc and 52 K. Sr2CuO3.3 undergoes a radically larger transformation at Tc, >1-Šdisplacements of the apical O atoms. The principal feature of the dynamical structure underlying these transformations is the strongly anharmonic oscillation of the apical O atoms in a double-well potential that results in the observation of two distinct O sites whose Cu-O distances indicate different bonding modes and valence-charge distributions. The coupling of the superconductivity to the iqtp that originates in this nonadiabatic coupling between the electrons and lattice demonstrates an important role for the dynamical structure whereby pairing occurs even in a system where displacements of the atoms that are part of the transition are sufficiently large to alter the Fermi surface. The synchronization and dynamic coherence of the iqtps resulting from the strong interactions within a crystal would be expected to influence this process.
