RESUMEN

Phase-coherent pulsed driving of passive optical fiber resonators enables the generation of ultrashort dissipative Raman solitons with durations well below 100 fs. The existence and characteristics of such solitons critically depend on the desynchronization between the pulsed driving source and the resonator round trip time, yet the full mechanism through which these dependencies arise remains unclear. Here, we numerically demonstrate that Raman solitons can exist even under conditions of continuous-wave (CW) driving, and by numerically examining the existence and characteristics of Raman solitons under such conditions, we elucidate the role of desynchronization in pulse-driven systems. In addition to providing new insights into the existence and characteristics of ultrashort Raman solitons, our analysis yields a qualitative explanation for the range of desynchronizations over which the solitons can exist.

RESUMEN

Safety problems caused by organophosphorus pesticide (OP) residues are constantly occurring, so the development of new methods for the degradation and detection of OPs is of great scientific significance. In the present study, ß-sheet peptides and ß-hairpin peptides for catalyzing the hydrolysis of OPs were designed and synthesized. The peptide sequences with the highest hydrolytic activity (EHSGGVTVDPPLTVEHSAG) were screened by investigating the effect of the location of the active sites of the peptide and the peptide's structure on the degradation of OPs. In addition, the relationship between the peptides' conformation and hydrolytic activity was further analyzed based on density functional theory calculations. The noncovalent interactions of the peptides with the OPs and the electrostatic potential on the molecular surface and molecular docking properties were also investigated. It was found that peptides with approximate active amino acids consisting of the catalytic triad and with the hairpin structure had enhanced hydrolytic activity toward the hydrolysis of OPs. To develop an electrochemical sensor technique to detect OPs, the conductive MXene (Ti3C2) material was first immobilized with a caffeic acid monolayer via enediol-metal complex chemistry and then bound with the ß-hairpin peptide (EHSGGVTVDPPLTVEHSAG) via carboxy-amine condensation chemistry between the -COOH of caffeic acid and the -NH2 of the peptide to prepare a MXene-peptide composite. Then, the prepared composite was modified on the surface of a glassy carbon electrode to construct an electrochemical sensor for the detection of OPs. The developed technique could be used to monitor OPs within 15 min with a two orders of linear working range and with a detection limit of 0.15 µM. Meanwhile, the sensor showed good reliability for the detection of OPs in real vegetables.

RESUMEN

Low-cost, reliable, and efficient biosensors are crucial in detecting residual heavy metal ions (HMIs) in food products. At present, based on distance-induced localized surface plasmon resonance of noble metal nanoparticles, enzyme-mimetic reaction of nanozymes, and chelation reaction of metal chelators, the constructed optical sensors have attracted wide attention in HMIs detection. Besides, based on the enrichment and signal amplification strategy of nanomaterials on HMIs and the construction of electrochemical aptamer sensing platforms, the developed electrochemical biosensors have overcome the plague of low sensitivity, poor selectivity, and the inability of multiplexed detection in the optical strategy. Moreover, along with an in-depth discussion of these different types of biosensors, a detailed overview of the design and application of innovative devices based on these sensing principles was provided, including microfluidic systems, hydrogel-based platforms, and test strip technologies. Finally, the challenges that hinder commercial application have also been mentioned. Overall, this review aims to establish a theoretical foundation for developing accurate and reliable sensing technologies and devices for HMIs, thereby promoting the widespread application of biosensors in the detection of HMIs in food.

RESUMEN

Because of the significant environmental and health hazards imposed by di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), a common plasticizer, developing safe and green techniques to degrade DEHP plasticizer is of huge scientific significance. It has been observed that environmental contamination of DEHP may also induce serious food safety problems because crops raised in plasticizers contaminated soils would transfer the plasticizer into foods, such as Baijiu. Additionally, when plastic packaging or vessels are used during Baijiu fermentation and processing, plasticizer compounds frequently migrate and contaminate the product. In this study, hairpin-like structured peptides with catalytically active sites containing serine, histidine and aspartic acid were found to degrade DEHP. Furthermore, after incorporating caffeic acid molecules at the N-terminus, the peptides could be attached onto foam titanium (Ti) surfaces via enediol-metal interactions to create an enzyme-mimicking flow reactor for the degradation of DEHP in Baijiu. The structure and catalytic activity of peptides, their interaction with DEHP substrate and the hydrolysis mechanism of DEHP were discussed in this work. The stability and reusability of the peptide-modified foam Ti flow reactor were also investigated. This approach provides an effective technique for the degradation of plasticizer compounds.

RESUMEN

We demonstrate an all-optical random number generator based on spontaneous symmetry breaking in a coherently driven Kerr resonator. Random bit sequences are generated by repeatedly tuning a control parameter across a symmetry-breaking bifurcation that enacts random selection between two possible steady-states of the system. Experiments are performed in a fiber ring resonator, where the two symmetry-broken steady-states are associated with orthogonal polarization modes. Detrimental biases due to system asymmetries are suppressed by leveraging a recently discovered self-symmetrization phenomenon that ensures the symmetry-breaking dynamics act as an unbiased coin toss, with a genuinely random selection between the two available steady-states. We optically generate bits at a rate of 3 MHz without post-processing and verify their randomness using the National Institute of Standards and Technology and Dieharder statistical test suites.

RESUMEN

In order to achieve the simultaneous extraction and detection of tetracycline (TC) in milk, the amino-functionalized Fe-based metal-organic frameworks (NH2-MIL-88B) was synthesized via a solvothermal method with Fe3+ and 2-aminoterephthalic acid (NH2-BDC) as precursor. Thanks to the unique structure of NH2-MIL-88B, it could be used to highly effective extract of TC in milk. More interestedly, the introduced -NH2 could react with -OH from TC by a hydrogen-bonding interaction to cause the electronic interactions that enhances the peroxidase-like activity of NH2-MIL-88B, which result in the enhancement of Fenton reaction by the transfer of the electron between TC and NH2-MIL-88B. Under the optimal testing conditions, the linear absorbance response is well correlated with the TC concentration range of 50-1000 nM, which can reach a low LOD of 46.75 nM. Besides, the sensor exhibits excellent selectivity to TC, and the proposed strategy can also be applied to milk with good recovery (83.33-107.00%). Finally, the NH2-MIL-88B and cellulose acetate (CA) are combined to form nanozyme hybrid membranes through the non-solvent induced phase separation method, which can be used to prepare point-of-care testing (POCT) for rapid and in-situ detection of TC.

RESUMEN

Graphene quantum dots (GQDs), a novel broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, are considered potential candidates in the field of biomedical and food safety due to their outstanding antimicrobial properties and excellent biocompatibility. To uncover the molecular regulatory mechanisms underlying the phenotypes, the overall regulation of genes and metabolites in Escherichia coli (E. coli) after GQDs stimulation was investigated by RNA-sequencing and LC-MS. Gene transcription and metabolite expression related to a series of crucial biomolecular processes were influenced by the GQDs stimulation, including biofilm formation, bacterial secretion system, sulfur metabolism and nitrogen metabolism, etc. This study could provide profound insights into the GQDs stress response in E. coli, which would be useful for the development and application of GQDs in food safety.

RESUMEN

Excessive antibiotic residues in food can cause detrimental effects on human health. The establishment of rapid, sensitive, selective, and reliable methods for the detection of antibiotics is highly in demand. With the inherent advantages of high sensitivity, rapid analysis time, and facile miniaturization, the electrochemical sensors have great potential in the detection of antibiotics. The electrochemical platforms comprising carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) have been proposed to detect antibiotic residues. Notably, with the introduction of functional CNMs, the performance of electrochemical sensors can be bolstered. This review first presents the significance of functional CNMs in the detection of antibiotics. Subsequently, we provide an overview of the applications for detection by enhancing the electrochemical behaviour of the antibiotic, as well as a brief overview of the application of recognition elements to detect antibiotics. Finally, the trend and the current challenges of electrochemical sensors based on CNMs in the detection of antibiotics is outlined.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is one of the highly malignant tumors in the world. Global Cancer Statistics 2020 estimated that there were 179,368 deaths from kidney tumors. Therefore, exploring the prognostic biomarkers of RCC is of great significance for RCC patients. This study aims to explore the potential mechanism and prognostic value of phospholysine phosphohistidine inorganic pyrophosphate phosphatase (LHPP) gene-targeting co-expression microRNAs in RCC patients. METHODS: A total of 60 RCC patients were included. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), western blotting, and immunohistochemistry were used for LHPP, microRNA-765, microRNA-21, and microRNA-144 levels evaluation. Cell Counting Kit-8 assay, dual-luciferase reporter gene assay, invasion assay, and RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization were used for functional analyses. RESULTS: Compared with adjacent tissues, LHPP levels in cancer tissues were significantly increased (p < .001). Herein, we confirmed that microRNA-765, microRNA-21, and microRNA-144 were direct biological targets of LHPP. MicroRNA-765 (r = -0.570, p < 0.001), microRNA-21 (r = -0.495, p < .001), and microRNA-144 (r = -0.463, p < .001) expression levels were negatively correlated with LHPP expression levels. The high expression levels of microRNA-765, microRNA-21, and microRNA-144 in RCC tissues were associated with poor differentiation, recurrence, and poor prognosis (p < .05). In vitro, microRNA-765, microRNA-21, and microRNA-144 act as oncogenes to promote proliferation, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through targeting LHPP. CONCLUSIONS: MicroRNA-765, microRNA-21, and microRNA-144 are independent risk biomarkers for RCC patients. Inhibiting the expression levels of microRNA-765, microRNA-21, and microRNA-144 can reduce the proliferation, EMT, and invasion of RCC cells. Therefore, the above three microRNAs are expected to become molecular biomarkers for RCC therapy.
