The genus Liparis, a group of perennial ornamental herbs in the family Orchidaceae, is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. Many species of the genus Liparis have been commonly used as traditional herbal medicines for the treatment of menorrhagia, haemoptysis, traumatic bleeding, snake bites, and pneumonia. This review describes the ornamental value of plants of the genus Liparis and summarises the chemical constituents and pharmacological activities reported during the last decade. The main chemical constituents of this genus are phenolic acids, alkaloids, flavonoids, etc. Most phenolic acids and alkaloids have a nervogenic acid skeleton, and most alkaloids also have a pyrrolizidine skeleton. Extracts from the genus Liparis plants showed significant haemostatic, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities. This paper proposed ideas and research directions for the future study of plants in the genus Liparis, providing valuable information for the development of new drugs and promoting their utilisation.

Key Clinical Message: This report describes a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with MYD88 L265P and KM2DT mutation and decompensated alcohol-related liver cirrhosis. And the treatment is successful in this patient, who had multiple complications and poor prognostic factors. Abstract: This report describes a case of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with MYD88 L265P and KM2DT mutation and decompensated alcohol-related liver cirrhosis. The lymphoma showed a complete response with no MYD88 L265P mutation after four courses of combination chemotherapy. Lymphoma is one of the most common malignant tumors, but cases of DLBCL with cirrhosis are much rarer especially with alcohol-related cirrhosis. And we reviewed the relevant mechanisms. Although we did not find a definite association between the pathogenesis of the patient's alcohol-related cirrhosis and that of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, the treatment is successful in this patient, who had multiple complications and poor prognostic factors.

The options for treating metastatic colorectal cancer are limited after failure of second-line chemotherapy. In this case report, we present the outcome of a 59-year-old male patient who underwent radical resection for rectal cancer in November 2018 and hepatectomy for liver metastasis in January 2021. His metastatic rectal cancer presented a remarkable response to the combination of fruquintinib and toripalimab after the failure of multiline chemotherapies. The patient achieved partial response within 3 months and clinical complete response of pulmonary masses within 12 months. As of now, the patient maintains a good quality of life, and the progression-free survival has been more than 17 months. In conclusion, the combination of fruquintinib and PD-1 inhibitors can improve the prognosis of metastatic colorectal cancer.

The available antitumor treatment options are very limited for patients with advanced colorectal cancer (a type of colon cancer), especially after multiple treatments have already failed. Often for patients in this situation, the available treatments do not work very well and the patients are not predicted to live very long. However, in this paper we report a case of successful treatment of this condition. A 59-year-old male patient with advanced colorectal cancer was treated with the combination therapy of two different immunotherapy drugs, fruquintinib and toripalimab, after multiple other treatments had failed. Currently, the survival time of this patient is over 17 months, and he has a satisfactory quality of life.

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a specific subtype of peripheral T-cell lymphoma that is challenging to diagnose due to the lack of specific pathological characteristics. This report describes the case of a 56-year-old man with Hodgkin lymphoma in whom the gene rearrangement results were positive for TCRßDB+Jß1/2. Pathological and immunochemical examinations revealed a diagnosis of lymphoma that was a composite of AITL and focal classical Hodgkin lymphoma. Unfortunately, he died soon after the correct diagnosis was made. This case shows that a combination of immunohistochemistry and gene rearrangement analysis can increase the diagnostic accuracy for AITL. A review of the literature on the misdiagnosis of AITL indicates that this disease progresses rapidly with a high mortality rate. Our experience, in this case, highlights the need for early diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to explore the protective role of ethanol extract from Chimonanthus nitens Oliv. leaf (COE) in hyperlipidemia via the leptin/Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway. METHODS: Male Sprague‒Dawley rats were randomly divided into 6 groups (n = 8): normal-fat diet (NMD), high-fat diet (HFD), HFD treated with simvastatin (SIM, 5 mg/kg/day), and HFD treated with COE (40, 80, 160 mg/kg/day). Lipid parameters, oxidative stress factors, serum leptin, body weight, hepatic wet weight and liver index were measured. Proteins in the leptin/JAK2/STAT3 pathway in liver tissues were determined using western blotting. Additionally, the expression levels of cytochrome P450 family 7 subfamily A member 1 (CYP7A1) and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) were quantified using western blotting and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). RESULTS: COE decreased HFD-induced increases in body weight, hepatic wet weight and the liver index. HFD-induced hyperlipidemia and oxidative stress were observed in rat serum and livers. Additionally, COE repressed these two symptoms in rats fed a HFD. Moreover, COE caused CYP7A1 upregulation and HMGCR downregulation in HFD-fed rats. Mechanistically, COE induced the expression of leptin receptor (OB-Rb) and JAK2 and STAT3 phosphorylation in HFD-treated rats. CONCLUSION: COE activates the leptin/JAK2/STAT3 pathway, leading to an improvement in liver function and lipid metabolism and ultimately alleviating hyperlipidemia in rats. Therefore, COE may be a potential hypolipidemic drug for the treatment of hyperlipidemia.

Human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) causes chronic infections of human T lymphocytes. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of 1,25VitD3 on the proportion of Tregs and Th17 cells, the expression of related transcription factors (ROR-γt and FOXP3) and cytokines (IL-10, TGF-ß, IL-6, and IL-17 A) in the HTLV-1infected cell lines MT-2 and MT-4. MT-2 and MT-4 cells and control PBMCs were treated with 1,25VitD3 and percentages of Tregs and Th17 cells was determined by flow cytometry. Gene expression and cytokine levels were analyzed by real-time PCR and ELISA, respectively. Treatment with-1,25VitD3 increased the percentage of Tregs in MT-2 and MT-4 cells, while it decreased the percentage of Th17 cells among MT-2 cells. 1,25VitD3 treatment also significantly improved FOXP3 gene expression in MT-2 cells, while reducing ROR-γt-gene expression in MT-2 and MT-4 cells comparing to untreated cells. Treatment with 1,25VitD3 significantly improved IL-10 levels in MT-2 cells, as well as TGF-ß levels in both cell lines culture supernatants. 1,25VitD3 treatment diminished IL-6 levels in cell culture supernatants of MT-2 and MT-4 as well as IL-17 A levels in MT-2. Here we showed, that 1,25VitD3 modulated immune responses by enhancing Tregs differentiation and functions as well as inhibiting Th17 differentiation and actions in HTLV-1 infected cell lines. This suggests that VitD3 may have therapeutic effects in HTLV-1-related diseases by suppressing adverse inflammatory responses. Keywords: Tregs; Th17 cells; HTLV-1; 1, 25VitD3.

BACKGROUND: Myelofibrosis (MF) is often associated with chronic myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome and primary myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), but few number cases of malignant lymphoma with myelofibrosis was reported, and a few cases about follicular lymphoma with MF were found. Here we described a case of follicular lymphoma (FL) complicated by myelofibrosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 43-year-old man was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma (FL) complicated by MF, besides, the lymphoma staging of this patient was AnnArbor IV B. The cytokines of plated-derived growth factor (PDGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (b-FGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α), interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß), interleukin-2 (IL-2), and transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß) were positive, while JAK2V617F, MPL, and CALR mutations were negative. After first course of chemotherapy, the peripheral blood and MF improved. The systemic superficial lymph nodes and spleen were significantly narrowed after the third cycle of chemotherapy. CONCLUSION: The production of various cytokines, such as b-FGF, TNF-α, TGF-ß, PDGF, IL-1ß, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, may contribute to the development of MF.
