RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: RP11-334E6.12 is a dysregulated long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) that has never been studied in breast cancer. The biological function and potential mechanism of RNA RP11-334E6.12 in tumorigenesis are still unknown. METHODS: We scanned the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and identified RP11-334E6.12 as one of the most dysregulated lncRNAs. The level of RP11-334E6.12 was assessed in breast cancer (BC) tissue samples and BC cell lines. The survival and RP11-334E6.12 expression of patients were analysed. The biological influence of RP11-334E6.12 on BC cell lines was studied using proliferation, Transwell migration, and invasion assays. RESULTS: RP11-334E6.12 was upregulated in both the TCGA database and our own database. Moreover, survival analyses indicated that RP11-334E6.12 was related to poor overall survival. Moreover, RP11-334E6.12 promoted the proliferation, migration and invasion of BC cells. RP11-334E6.12 promotes the epithelial mesenchymal transition of BC by activating the STAT3 pathway. CONCLUSION: Taken together, our results demonstrate that RP11-334E6.12 is associated with the progression of breast cancer. Our findings indicate that long noncoding RNA RP11-334E6.12 promotes the proliferation, migration and invasion of breast cancer cells by activating the STAT3 pathway.

RESUMEN

The components of petrochemical wastewater (PCWW) are very complex and it is one of the most important sources of organic micropollutants (OMPs) in water bodies. To improve the effluent qualities of PCWW, the Chinese government has promulgated a new Emission Standard of Pollutants for Petroleum Chemistry Industry. More than 60 types of OMPs, most of which are toxic organics, are added and strictly limited in the standard. Based on the bench- and pilot-scale experiments, a pretreatment (microaerobic hydrolysis and acidification, MOHA), biological (anoxic/oxic process, A/O) and advanced treatment (micro-flocculation dynasand filtration and catalytic ozonation, MFDF-CO) integrated process is proposed. The full-scale application in the Chinese biggest petrochemical wastewater treatment plant has demonstrated that the performance of the integrated process is stable and it can significantly improve the effluent qualities. The effluent COD decreased from 84.7 to 47.0mg/L and most of the OMPs were removed. The EC50 of the effluent for luminescent bacteria assay, algal growth inhibition, Daphnia magna inhibition test and zebrafish eggs test are all higher than 100% and the induction rate (IR) for genotoxicity is only 0.76. The energy demand, however, with the electricity consumption increase by 44.1%, is very high for OMPs removal, leading to high indirect carbon emission.

RESUMEN

Juniperus chinensis cv. Kaizuca has extensive pharmacological activities. The cone oils exhibited protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B inhibitory activity in vitro. The IC50 value was 4.49 ± 0.04 µg/mL. A total of 17 compounds were characterised from the cone oils by GC-MS. In order to explain the activity against protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B, the identified compounds from cone oils were individually docked with the protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B protein by virtual molecular docking. As a result, thunbergene was completely wrapped by the active site of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B, and its binding energy was -6.41 kcal/mol. The result indicated that thunbergene possessed the potential protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B inhibitory activity, which may be responsible for the activity of cone oils.

RESUMEN

Sabina chinensis cv. Kaizuca (SCK) is a variant of S. chinensis L. The essential oil from its leaves exhibited α-amylase inhibitory activity in vitro and the IC50 value was 187.08 ± 0.56 µg/mL. Nineteen compounds were identified from this essential oil by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The major compounds identified were bornyl acetate (42.6%), elemol (20.5%), ß-myrcene (13.7%) and ß-linalool (4.0%). In order to study the reason of the α-amylase inhibitory activity of this essential oil, the identified compounds were docked with α-amylase by molecular docking individually. Among these compounds, γ-eudesmol exhibited the lowest binding energy (-6.73 kcal/mol), followed by α-copaen-11-ol (-6.66 kcal/mol), cubedol (-6.39 kcal/mol) and α-acorenol (-6.12 kcal/mol). The results indicated that these compounds were the active ingredients responsible for the α-amylase inhibitory activity of essential oil from SCK.

RESUMEN

Oilseed rape straw (ORS) is a kind of biorefractory waste widely existing in the rural area of China, which is highly suitable to mix with kitchen waste (KW) and duck droppings (DD) in two-phase anaerobic digestion (AD). This research introduced the importance of KW and DD addition to improve the biogas production and biodegradation of ORS. A set of comparative experiments were conducted on two-phase mono- and co-digestion with organic load of 60 g VS/L. The total methane yield (TMY) and the biodegradation of ORS of co-digestions were obviously improving, and the synergistic effect found in the two-phase co-digestions. The optimum mixing ratio of ORS, KW and DD was 50:40:10, and the corresponding TMY and VS degradation rate of ORS were 374.5 mL/g VS and 49.7%, respectively. Addition of KW and DD maintained the pH within the optimal range for the hydrolyzing-acidification, improved the phase separation and buffering capacity of AD system.
