RESUMEN

Liver regeneration induced by partial hepatectomy (PHx) has attracted intensive research interests due to the great significance for liver resection and transplantation. The zebrafish (Danio rerio) is an excellent model to study liver regeneration. In the fish subjected to PHx (the tip of the ventral lobe was resected), the lost liver mass could be fully regenerated in seven days. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying the liver regeneration remain largely unknown. In this study, gene expression profiles during the regeneration of PHx-treated liver were explored by RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). The genes responsive to the injury of PHx treatment were identified and classified into different clusters based on the expression profiles. Representative gene ontology (GO) enrichments for the early responsive genes included hormone activity, ribosome biogenesis and rRNA processing, etc., while the late responsive genes were enriched in biological processes such as glutathione metabolic process, antioxidant activity and cellular detoxification. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichments were also identified for the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the time-series samples and the sham controls. The proteasome was overrepresented by the up-regulated genes at all of the sampling time points. Inhibiting proteasome activity by the application of MG132 to the fish enhanced the expression of Pcna (proliferating cell nuclear antigen), an indicator of hepatocyte proliferation after PHx. Our data provide novel insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the regeneration of PHx-treated liver.

Objective: Black soldier fly (BSF) as an animal protein feed source is currently becoming a research hot topic. This study investigated the effects of the BSF as a protein feed source for goats on slaughter performance, muscle nutrient composition, amino acids, fatty acids, minerals, and antioxidant levels. Methods: Thirty Qianbei Ma goats (20.30 ± 1.09 kg) were randomly divided into three groups: the control group (GRPC) supplemented with 10% full-fat soybean, treatment 1 (GRPU) supplemented with 10% untreated BSF, and treatment 2 (GRPT) supplemented with 10% heat-treated BSF. One-way ANOVA among groups (with Fisher's least significant difference (LSD) post hoc comparison) was used in this study. Results: The nutrients, amino acids, fatty acids, minerals, and antioxidants in muscle were analyzed. The results showed that there were no significant differences in the moisture, dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ash, amino acids, and mineral content of the muscles among the three feeding groups. The slaughter rate and carcass weight of the GRPU and GRPT groups were significantly lower (p<0.05). The overall meat quality of the GRPU and GRPT groups decreased (p<0.05). The individual unsaturated fatty acids and total unsaturated fatty acids in the GRPU group were higher (p<0.05) than those in the GRPC and GRPT groups. Both GRPU and GRPT decreased (p<0.05) the antioxidant capacity of the meat. Conclusion: Therefore, the heat-treated BSF had a better effect on meat quality compared to untreated BSF, but there were greater negative effects on the meat quality of GRPU and GRPT than GRPC.

A mild, efficient and practical protocol for the preparation of 2-sulfonylquinolines through CS2/Et2NH-induced deoxygenative C2-H sulfonylation of quinoline N-oxides with readily available RSO2Cl was developed. The reaction proceeded well under transition-metal-free conditions and exhibited a wide substrate scope and functional group tolerance. The preliminary studies suggested that the nucleophilic sulfonyl sources were generated in situ via the reaction of CS2, Et2NH and sulfonyl chlorides.

Hermetia illucens (HI) meal is a promising substitute for fish meal (FM) in the feeds of farmed fish. However, the impacts of dietary HI meal on largemouth bass (LMB) remain unknown. In this study, we formulated three isonitrogenous and isolipid diets with 0% (HI0, control), 20% (HI20) and 40% (HI40) of FM substituted by HI meal. A total of 270 juvenile largemouth bass with an initial body weight of 10.02 ± 0.03 g were used (30 fish per tank). After an 80-day feeding trial, the fish fed with the HI40 diet demonstrated decreased growth performance and protein efficiency ratio (PER), and increased liver oxidative indices and lipid accumulation compared to the control (P < 0.05). Transcriptomic analysis revealed the effects of high dietary HI meal on liver gene expression. Consistent with the reduced growth and disturbed liver oxidative status, the upregulated genes were enriched in the biological processes associated with protein catabolism and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress; while the downregulated genes were enriched in cellular proliferation, growth, metabolism, immunity and maintenance of tissue homeostasis. Differential metabolites in the liver samples were also identified by untargeted metabolomic assay. The results of joint transcriptomic-metabolomic analyses revealed that the pathways such as one carbon pool by folate, propanoate metabolism and alpha-linolenic acid metabolism were disturbed by high dietary HI meal. In summary, our data revealed the candidate genes, metabolites and biological pathways that account for the adverse effects of high HI meal diet on the growth and health of LMB.

The advent of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has greatly improved the prognosis of advanced lung cancer patients, but can lead to pseudoprogression (PsP), which complicates clinical evaluation and management. PsP is manifested as temporary enlargement of the tumour or the appearance of new lesions, etc., and improvement in imaging occurs with continued treatment, mostly without worsening of clinical symptoms. Currently, there are still difficulties in the early diagnosis of PsP, and its occurrence mechanism is not yet clear, lacking good predictive factors and related biomarkers. This article reviews the current research status of PsP of ICIs in non-small cell lung cancer in order to provide helpful clinical strategies for oncologists using these drugs.

A general, efficient and practical protocol for Ts2O promoted deoxygenative dithiocarbamation of quinoline N-oxides with in situ generated dithiocarbamic acids from CS2 and amines is reported. The reaction proceeded well under transition-metal free conditions to obtain a variety of novel quinoline-dithiocarbamate compounds with wide functional group tolerance and good to high yields.

A simple, efficient, and practical method for the synthesis of S-quinolyl xanthates was developed via Ts2O-promoted deoxygenative C-H dithiocarbonation of quinoline N-oxides with various potassium O-alkyl xanthates. The reaction performed well under transition-metal-free, base-free, and room-temperature conditions with wide substrate tolerance. Employing potassium O-tert-butyl xanthate (tBuOCS2K) as a nucleophile, some valuable quinoline-2-thiones were unexpectedly obtained in a one-pot reaction without any additional base.

Lycopene is a kind of natural carotenoid that could achieve antioxidant, anti-cancer, lipid-lowering and immune-improving effects by up-regulating or down-regulating genes related to antioxidant, anti-cancer, lipid-lowering and immunity. Furthermore, lycopene is natural, pollution-free, and has no toxic side effects. The application of lycopene in animal production has shown that it could improve livestock production performance, slaughter performance, immunity, antioxidant capacity, intestinal health, and meat quality. Therefore, lycopene as a new type of feed additive, has broader application prospects in many antibiotic-forbidden environments. This article serves as a reference for the use of lycopene as a health feed additive in animal production by going over its physical and chemical characteristics, antioxidant, lipid-lowering, anti-cancer, and application in animal production.

An efficient and practical method for the synthesis of 3-alkenylquinoxalinones containing the SCF3 group has been readily developed through a three-component radical cascade reaction involving quinoxalinones, alkynes and AgSCF3. The reaction was found to be compatible with a variety of substrates and exhibited a high functional group tolerance and complete E-selectivity. The preliminary study suggests the involvement of a SCF3 radical in the transformation.

Background: Despite ongoing changes in the global epidemiology of cystic echinococcosis (CE), there is a lack of research conducted to date. Methods: We extracted data on incidence and disability-adjusted life years for 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2019 to evaluate the epidemiological characteristics and burden of CE through the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019. We used locally weighted linear regression to analyse the primary driving factors of the prevalence of CE at the national and regional levels and utilised a Bayesian Age-Period-Cohort model to forecast the global incidence of CE in the next decade. Results: Globally, the incidence of CE remained constantly high from 1990 (2.65 per 100 000 population) to 2019 (2.60 per 100 000 population), resulting in an estimated 207 368 new cases in 2019. We observed substantial variations in the disease burden regarding its spatiotemporal distribution, population demographics, and Socio-Demographic Index levels. According to established models, factors such as health care capacity, livestock husbandry, agricultural activities, rural populations, and education levels are likely to play significant roles in determining the prevalence of CE across different countries. By 2030, the worldwide number of CE cases could reach as high as 235 628, representing an increase of 13.63% compared to 2019. Conclusions: Over the past three decades, the global burden of CE has persistently remained high, especially in Central Asia, as well as North Africa and the Middle East. Efforts should focus on more effective prevention and control measures in these key regions and should specifically target vulnerable populations to prevent the escalation of epidemics.

Citrus peel is a commonly used food-medicine material in the production of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs). For instance, Ganpu tea is manufactured by combining the peel of Citri Reticulatae 'Chachi' (PCRC) with Pu-erh tea. The alleviated irritation of PCRC through years of aging makes Citri reticulatae Pericarpium a traditional Chinese medicine. Herein, we introduced short-term steaming into the processing of PCRC to favor the quick removal of its irritation while retaining its food-medicine properties. Sensory evaluation and volatile component analysis showed that 60-s steaming reduced irritation of freshly prepared PCRC. Biological evaluations indicated no effects of steaming on the neuroprotective activity of PCRC. The process increased the contents of several bioactive ingredients, including hesperidin, nobiletin, tangeretin, and synephrine. In addition, physical indications of accelerating PCRC aging were observed. Taken together, our findings suggest that short-term steaming may offer a promising new possibility for enhancing the quality of citrus peel.

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is a rare and highly aggressive malignancy. Most patients are diagnosed at a late stage with poor prognosis. The treatment usually includes combined intensive chemotherapy, cytoreductive surgery, radiotherapy, and targeted therapy. Due to the low incidence rate and dismal survival, there is currently a lack of case reports on DSRCT with concurrent leukemia. We report a case of a young patient who achieved disease stabilization for 14 months after receiving 6 cycles of chemotherapy and whole abdominal radiation therapy (WART), followed by consolidation treatment with anlotinib. However, the treatment was terminated due to the development of Acute Myeloid Leukemia-M5 (AML-M5). Multimodal therapy may provide a survival benefit for rare tumors that lack standard treatment. However, intensive chemotherapy and extensive radiotherapy carry a risk of inducing secondary malignancies. This is the first reported case of concurrent DSRCT and AML-M5 with short intervals between onset.

The incorporation of amide groups into biologically active molecules has been proven to be an efficient strategy for drug design and discovery. In this study, we present a simple and practical method for the synthesis of amide-containing quinazolin-4(3H)-ones under transition-metal-free conditions. This is achieved through a carbamoyl-radical-triggered cascade cyclization of N3-alkenyl-tethered quinazolinones. Notably, the carbamoyl radical is generated in situ from the oxidative decarboxylative process of oxamic acids in the presence of (NH4)2S2O8.

Developing high-efficiency solar photothermal conversion and storage (SPCS) technology is significant in solving the imbalance between the supply and demand of solar energy utilization in time and space. Aiming at the current research status in the field of SPCS, this review thoroughly examines the phase change materials and substrates in SPCS systems. It elucidates the design principles and methods of SPCS integrated composites. Comparatively, it analyzes the parameters of various types of SPCS composites in terms of photothermal conversion, thermal conductivity, energy density, and cycling stability. Additionally, the review discusses the trade-offs between each parameter to achieve the most optimal effect of SPCS. By sorting out the current status of the application of SPCS technology in solar thermal/photovoltaic, aerospace, buildings, textile, and other industries, this analysis clarifies the requirements for various latent heat, phase change temperature, and other properties under different environmental conditions. Through a comprehensive discussion of SPCS technology, this paper accurately captures the development trend of efficiently and comprehensively utilizing solar energy by analyzing existing scientific problems. It identifies bottlenecks in SPCS technology and suggests future development directions that need focused attention. The insights gained from this analysis may provide a theoretical basis for designing strategies, enhancing performance, and promoting the application of SPCS.

Mulberry (Morus alba L.), a kind of common fruits widely cultivated worldwide, has been proven various biological activities. However, its potential role in the progression of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the potential protective effects of crude polysaccharide extracted from mulberry fruit, referred to as a complex blend of polysaccharides and other unidentified extracted impurities, on KOA progression. The KOA rats were established by injection of 1 mg sodium monoiodoacetate into knee, and administrated with crude mulberry polysaccharide (Mup) by gastric gavage for 4 weeks. Furthermore, intestinal bacteria clearance assay (IBCA) and fecal microbiota transplantation were conducted for the evaluation of the effect of gut microbiota (GM) on KOA. Our findings demonstrated that Mup, particularly at a dosage of 200 mg/kg, effectively improved abnormal gait patterns, reduced the level of inflammation, mitigated subchondral bone loss, restored compromised joint surfaces, alleviated cartilage destruction, and positively modulated the dysregulated profile of GM in KOA rats. Moreover, IBCA compromised the protective effects of Mup, while transplantation of fecal bacteria from Mup-treated rats facilitated KOA recovery. Collectively, our study suggested that Mup had the potential to ameliorate the progression of KOA, potentially through its modulation of GM profile.

A convenient, efficient and practical approach for the synthesis of S-quinolyl phosphorothioates via cheap TsCl promoted deoxygenative C2-H phosphorothiolation of quinoline N-oxides with readily available triethylammonium O,O-dialkylphosphorothioates was developed. The reaction performed well under transition-metal-free conditions at room temperature with a very short reaction time (10-20 min). Preliminary studies showed that the current transformation underwent a nucleophilic substitution process.

Introduction: The primary objective of the current study was to evaluate the effects of Flammulina velutipes mushroom residue (FVMR) in a fermented total mixed ration (FTMR) diet on the fattening effect and rumen microorganisms in Guizhou black male goats. Methods: A total of 22 Guizhou black male goats were allocated into two groups using the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) experimental design. The average initial weight was 22.41 ± 0.90 kg and with 11 goats in each group. The control group (group I) was fed the traditional fermentation total mixed ration (FTMR) diet without FVMR. Group II was fed the 30% FVMR in the FTMR diet. Results: The results showed that compared with group I, the addition of FVMR in the goat diet could reduce the feed cost and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of group II (p < 0.01). Notably, the apparent digestibility of crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and dry matter (DM) were higher in group II (p < 0.01). The levels of growth hormone (GH), immunoglobulin A (IgA), and immunoglobulin M (IgM) in group II were higher than that of group I (p < 0.01), which the level of glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (ALT) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) was noticeably lower than that of group I (p < 0.01). 30% FVMR in FTMR diets had no effect on rumen fermentation parameters and microbial composition at the phylum level of Guizhou black male goats (p > 0.05). However, at the genus level, the relative abundance of bacteroidal_bs11_gut_group, Christensenellaceae_R-7_group and Desulfovibrio in group II was lower than in group I (p < 0.05), and the relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae_ND3007_group was higher than in group I (p < 0.01). Discussion: In conclusion, the results of the current study indicated that 30% FVMR in the FTMR diet improves rumen fermentation and rumen microbial composition in Guizhou black male goats, which improves growth performance, apparent digestibility, and immunity.

Aquaculture of Largemouth Bass (LMB, Micropterus salmoides), an economically important species, is badly affected by the outbreak of bacterial diseases in summer. However, the mechanisms underlying heat-induced disease susceptibility remain largely unknown. In this study, after exposure to 34 °C for 1, 7 and 14 d, the head kidney, spleen and blood of LMB were sampled for biochemical and histological assays to explore the effects of heat exposure on the oxidative and immunological indices. Compared to the controls maintained at 28 °C, chronic heat exposure (34 °C for 14 d) induced oxidative stress, caused cell apoptosis and decreased expression of the immunological genes in the head kidney and spleen tissues; and attenuated the blood immunological indices. Consistent with the impaired immunological functions, chronic heat exposure predisposed LMB to Aeromonas hydrophila infection and significantly (p < 0.001) increased tissue bacterial load. Furthermore, the effects of chronic heat exposure (heat), A. hydrophila infection (infection) and heat exposure followed by A. hydrophila infection (heat + infection) on gene expression in the head kidney and spleen of LMB were characterized by RNA sequencing. The results indicated that chronic heat exposure facilitated the bacteria-elicited changes in expression of the genes involved in a couple of metabolic and signaling pathways in both tissues. Upon heat + infection, the pathways involved in energy production and nutrients biosynthesis were enhanced, whereas those associated with the host cell functions such as cell-cell interactions and cell signaling were depressed. Our data provide new insights into the mechanisms underlying heat-induced disease susceptibility in LMB.

A Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, yellowish and glossy strain, C31T, was isolated from a wetland plant Polygonum lapathifolium L. located south of Poyang Lake, Jiangxi Province, PR China. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain C31T showed similarity values of lower than 97.0 % to other type species belonging to the genus Paenibacillus. The genomic average nucleotide identity values between strain C31T and its reference type species ranged from 68.9-70.9 % and the digital DNA-DNA hybridization values were lower than 27.8 %. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain C31T was 41.9 mol%. The optimal growth temperature, pH and NaCl concentration were 37 °C, pH 7 and 0.5 %, respectively. The major cellular fatty acids (>5.0 %) of strain C31T were anteiso-C15 : 0 (73.7 %), anteiso-C17 : 0 (8.4 %) and iso-C15 : 0 (5.2 %). The polar lipids of strain C31T were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and unidentified phospholipids. The respiratory quinone was MK-7. Based on these phylogenetic and phenotypic characterizations, strain C31T represents a novel species within the genus Paenibacillus. Therefore, the proposed name for this newly identified species is Paenibacillus polygoni sp. nov. and the type strain is C31T (=CCTCC AB 2022349T=KCTC 43565T).

RESUMEN

An environmentally benign protocol that provides various S-quinolyl xanthates via a ball milling enabled cross coupling reaction of haloquinolines and readily available potassium O-alkyl xanthates is first reported. The reaction proceeded well under mild, transition metal- and solvent-free conditions, making it an attractive method for the introduction of xanthates into the quinoline scaffold.
