Fungal infestations, particularly from Rhizopus stolonifer, pose significant post-harvest challenges for strawberries, compromising their shelf life and quality. Traditional preservation methods, including refrigeration, offer limited protection against such pathogens. This study introduces an innovative approach, utilizing edible films infused with Bacillus subtilis strains GOS 01 B-67748 and HFC 103, known for their antifungal properties. We demonstrate that these bioactive films not only inhibit fungal growth effectively but also enhance the preservation of strawberries at varying temperatures. The inclusion of Bacillus subtilis in edible films represents a significant advancement in extending the viability of strawberries, surpassing the efficacy of conventional methods. Our findings suggest a promising avenue for natural, safe food preservation techniques, aligning with current consumer preferences for additive-free products. This research contributes to the broader understanding of microbial-based food preservation strategies, offering potential applications across a range of perishable commodities.

Introduction: Debriefing is a technique to improve learning outcomes through a process of reflection and feedback. The aim of the study is to compare the effectiveness of debriefing vs. the traditional teaching model to improve quality compliance in obstetric ultrasound. Subjects and methods: Forty-five recent graduates of ultrasound diploma courses were evaluated during three months of quality control. The physicians were divided into two groups to carry out feedback on areas of opportunity: the control group only received education through the traditional model and the intervention group, which received feedback with debriefing methodology. Results: When compared, both methods were shown to be effective for the overall improvement of quality compliance (42.9% traditional, p = 0.0083, 75% debriefing, p = 0.0002). The debriefing group was significantly better in the areas of overall quality (56.7% vs. 38.1%, p = 0.0090 vs. p = 0.0432), measurement error (88.1% vs. 68.7%, with statistical significance p = 0.349). Conclusion: Both feedback techniques offered positive results for the improvement of quality compliance in obstetric ultrasound studies, with the debriefing technique showing significant advantages over the traditional teaching model in the feedback of detected areas of opportunity.(AU)

Viviparity evolved independently about 150 times in vertebrates and more than 20 times in fish. Several lineages added to the protection of the embryo inside the body of the mother, the provisioning of nutrients, and physiological exchange. This often led to the evolution of a placenta. Among fish, one of the most complex systems serving the function of the placenta is the embryonal trophotaenia/ovarian luminal epithelium of the goodeid fishes. For a better understanding of this feature and others of this group of fishes, high-quality genomic resources are essential. We have sequenced the genome of the darkedged splitfin, Girardinichthys multiradiatus The assembly is chromosome level and includes the X and Y Chromosomes. A large male-specific region on the Y was identified covering 80% of Chromosome 20, allowing some first inferences on the recent origin and a candidate male sex determining gene. Genome-wide transcriptomics uncovered sex-specific differences in brain gene expression with an enrichment for neurosteroidogenesis and testis genes in males. The expression signatures of the splitfin embryonal and maternal placenta showed overlap with homologous tissues including human placenta, the ovarian follicle epithelium of matrotrophic poeciliid fish species and the brood pouch epithelium of the seahorse. Our comparative analyses on the evolution of embryonal and maternal placenta indicate that the evolutionary novelty of maternal provisioning development repeatedly made use of genes that already had the same function in other tissues. In this way, preexisting modules are assembled and repurposed to provide the molecular changes for this novel trait.

In the present study, the nematicidal activity of an isolated strain of Mimosa pudica nodules was evaluated against the Nacobbus aberrans (J2) phytonymatodes with a mortality of 88.8%, while against the gastrointestinal nematode Haemonchus contortus (L3) and free-living Panagrellus redivivus was 100%. The ability to inhibit the growth of phytopathogenic fungi Fusarium sp., and Alternaria solani, as well as the oomycete Phytophthora capsici, this antifungal activity may be related to the ability to produce cellulases, siderophores and chitinases by this bacterial strain. Another important finding was the detection of plant growth promoter characteristics, such as auxin production and phosphate solubilization. The strain identified by sequences of the 16S and rpoB genes as Serratia sp. is genetically related to Serratia marcescens and Serratia nematodiphila. The promoter activity of plant growth, antifungal and nematicide of the Serratia sp. strain makes it an alternative for the biocontrol of fungi and nematodes that affect both the livestock and agricultural sectors, likewise, candidate as a growth-promoting bacterium.

In this article nickel interdigital capacitors were fabricated on top of silicon substrates. The capacitance of the interdigital capacitor was optimized by coating the electrodes with a 60 nm layer of HfO2. An analytical solution of the capacitance was compared to electromagnetic simulations using COMSOL and with experimental measurements. Results show that modeling interdigital capacitors using Finite Element Method software such as COMSOL is effective in the design and electrical characterization of these transducers.

In an effort to combine group III-V semiconductors with carbon nanotubes, a simple solution-based technique for gallium functionalization of nitrogen-doped multi-wall carbon nanotubes has been developed. With an aqueous solution of a gallium salt (GaI(3)), it was possible to form covalent bonds between the Ga(3+) ion and the nitrogen atoms of the doped carbon nanotubes to form a gallium nitride-carbon nanotube hybrid at room temperature. This functionalization was evaluated by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
