Agrochemicals pose significant threats to the survival of bees, yet the physiological impacts of sublethal doses on stingless bees remain poorly understood. This study investigated the effects of acute oral exposure to three commercial formulations of agrochemicals [CuSO4 (leaf fertilizer), glyphosate (herbicide), and spinosad (bioinsecticide)] on antioxidant enzymes, malondialdehyde content (MDA), nitric oxide (NO) levels, and total hemocyte count (THC) in the stingless bee Partamona helleri. Foragers were exposed to lethal concentrations aimed to kill 5% (LC5) of CuSO4 (120 µg mL-1) or spinosad (0.85 µg mL-1) over a 24-h period. Glyphosate-exposed bees received the recommended label concentration (7400 µg mL-1), as they exhibited 100% survival after exposure. Ingestion of CuSO4 or glyphosate-treated diets by bees was reduced. Levels of NO and catalase (CAT) remained unaffected at 0 h or 24 h post-exposure. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was higher at 0 h compared to 24 h, although insignificantly so when compared to the control. Exposure to CuSO4 reduced glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity at 0 h but increased it after 24 h, for both CuSO4 and glyphosate. MDA levels decreased after 0 h exposure to CuSO4 or spinosad but increased after 24 h exposure to all tested agrochemicals. THC showed no difference among glyphosate or spinosad compared to the control or across time. However, CuSO4 exposure significantly increased THC. These findings shed light on the physiological responses of stingless bees to agrochemicals, crucial for understanding their overall health.

Toxorhynchites mosquitoes have an exclusively phytophagous feeding habit as adults, which leads to significant differences in their morphophysiology compared with haematophagous mosquitoes. However, the molecular mechanisms of digestion in this mosquito are not well understood. In this study, RNA sequencing of the posterior midgut (PMG) of the mosquito Toxorhynchites theobaldi was undertaken, highlighting its significance in mosquito digestion. Subsequently, a comparison was made between the differential gene expression of the PMG and that of the anterior midgut. It was found that the most abundant proteases in the PMG were trypsin and chymotrypsin, and the level of gene expression for enzymes essential for digestion (such as serine protease, α-amylase and pancreatic triacylglycerol lipase) and innate immune response (including catalase, cecropin-A2 and superoxide dismutase) was like that of haematophagous mosquitoes. Peritrophin-1 was detected in the entire midgut, with an elevated expression level in the PMG. Based on our findings, it is hypothesized that a non-haematophagic habit might have been exhibited by the ancestor of Tx. theobaldi, and this trait may have been retained. This study represents a pioneering investigation at the molecular level of midgut contents in a non-haematophagous mosquito. The findings offer valuable insights into the evolutionary aspects of feeding habits in culicids.

Lutzia mosquitoes (Theobald, 1903) are predaceous during their larval stages, but the adult feeding is not clearly understood, especially in relation to blood feeding. In case these mosquitoes are harmless to humans and related animals, they can be useful in biological control of mosquito vectors of pathogens. Investigating the midgut morphology is a good strategy to understand the feeding behavior of this species. The midgut in Lutzia bigoti Bellardi, 1862 displays two distinct portions, a thin anterior midgut and a more dilated posterior midgut. Digestive cells form a single epithelium in the midgut. These cells have long and packed microvilli at their apex and membrane infoldings at their basal portion, the basal labyrinth. The epithelium is supported by a basal lamina. Regarding their cytoplasm, it is noteworthy the abundance of mitochondria, distributed in an apical-basal fashion, and also a whirl-shaped endoplasmic reticulum in the posterior midgut. Basal cells are also found in the midgut of L. bigoti, resembling regenerative cells. The general organization of L. bigoti's midgut closely resembles that of numerous hematophagous mosquitoes previously documented. However, it diverges due to the presence of a peritrophic matrix even when exclusively fed on sugary solutions. Peculiar aspects of L. bigoti's midgut are discussed and compared to those of other mosquito species.

Monoacylglycerols are eco-friendly and inexpensive emulsifiers with a range of applications. The traditional synthetic route is not eco-friendly, while enzymatic catalysis offers milder reaction conditions and higher selectivity. However, its application still is limited due to the costs. In this context, endophytic fungi can be source to new biocatalysts with enhanced catalytic activity. Based on this perspective, the aim of this study was perform the synthesis of MAG's through transesterification reactions of solketal and different vinyl esters, using crude and immobilized lipolytic extracts from the endophytic fungi Stemphylium lycopersici, isolated from Humiria balsamifera. The reactions were conducted using 100â mg of biocatalyst, 1â mmol of substrates, 9 : 1 n-heptane/acetone, at 40 °C, 200â rpm for 96 h. In the reactions using the ILE and stearate, laureate and decanoate vinyl esters it was possible to obtain the correspondent products with conversion rates of 52-75 %. Also, according to the structure drivers used in MCM-48 synthesis, different morphologies and conversions rates were observed. Employing [C16MI] Cl, [C14MI] Cl and [C4MI] Cl, the 1-lauroyl- glycerol conversion was 36 %, 79 % and 44 %, respectively. This is the first work involving the immobilization of an endophytic fungi and its utilization as a biocatalyst in the production of MAG's.

Carpal bone tumors must be investigated in clinical cases of chronic wrist pain with no previous trauma. Intraosseous ganglion, enchondroma, osteoid osteoma, and, less commonly, osteoblastoma are potential causes of osteolytic lesions affecting the carpal bones. In most cases, the clinical presentation alone is not enough to differentiate such lesions. Knowledge of certain characteristics, including the radiological and histopathological aspects of each of these tumors, is critical in order to make the differential diagnosis. We present a rare case of osteoblastoma of the capitate bone and review the literature on the subject.

Resumo Contextos avaliativos tendem a ser ansiogênicos para a maior parte das pessoas. Assim, compreender os níveis de ansiedade frente a provas é uma possibilidade para auxiliar o estudante individualmente, bem como compreender processos educativos mais amplos. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar as evidências de validade de estrutura interna, precisão e invariância na versão reduzida do Inventário de Ansiedade Frente a Provas (IAP). O estudo foi realizado com 1137 estudantes com idades variando de 18 a 63 anos (M = 25,94; DP = 7,37) no estado do Rio de Janeiro. Os resultados indicaram uma estrutura formada por quatro fatores: preocupação, falta de confiança, distração e emoção. Também foram evidenciadas boas estimas de precisão, com alfas variando de 0,86 a 0,93. Foram apresentadas evidências de invariância quanto ao sexo para o IAP, com as mulheres apresentando maiores níveis de ansiedade, podendo ser pensadas ações focais principalmente no público feminino. A versão curta do inventário é um bom recurso para avaliações no contexto educacional e auxílio na compreensão de ansiedade nessas situações. Novos estudos são sugeridos para buscar por evidências de validade de critério e controle de vieses de resposta no IAP.
Abstract Evaluative contexts tend to be anxiogenic for most people. Thus, understanding levels of anxiety in the face of tests is a possibility to help individual students, as well as to understand broader educational processes. This study aimed to evaluate evidence of internal structure validity, accuracy and invariance in the short version of the Test Anxiety Inventory (IAP). The study was carried out with 1137 students aged between 18 and 63 years (M = 25.94; SD = 7.37) in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The results indicated a structure formed by four factors: concern, lack of confidence, distraction and emotion. Good precision estimates were also evidenced, with alphas ranging from 0.86 to 0.93. Evidences of gender invariance were presented for the IAP, with women presenting higher levels of anxiety, and focal actions can be considered, mainly in the female public. The short version of the inventory is a good resource for assessments in the educational context and helps to understand anxiety in these situations. New studies are suggested to look for evidence of criterion validity and control of response biases in the IAP.
Resumen Los entornos de evaluación suelen generar ansiedad en la mayoría de las personas. Por lo tanto, comprender los niveles de ansiedad ante los exámenes puede ayudar al estudiante de manera individual y también comprender procesos educativos más amplios. En este estudio, evaluamos la validez interna, la precisión y la invarianza en la versión reducida del Inventario de Ansiedad Frente a Exámenes (IAE). Se entrevistó a 1137 estudiantes con edades entre 18 y 63 años (M = 25.94; DP = 7.37) en el estado de Río de Janeiro. Los resultados mostraron una estructura de cuatro factores: preocupación, falta de confianza, distracción y emoción. También obtuvimos buenas estimaciones de precisión, con alfas que variaron de 0.86 a 0.93. Se encontró que el IAE es invariante en cuanto al sexo, con las mujeres mostrando niveles más altos de ansiedad. Esto sugiere la necesidad de acciones específicas dirigidas principalmente al público femenino. La versión reducida del inventario es una herramienta útil para evaluaciones en el contexto educativo y para comprender la ansiedad en estas situaciones. Recomendamos realizar estudios futuros para examinar la validez de criterio y controlar posibles sesgos de respuesta en el IAE.

The growing concern with the decline of pollinators worldwide is centered on honey bees, due to their wide distribution, economic, and ecological importance. This type of concern remained less evident for stingless bees, which are widely distributed in the Neotropics, until recently. Since exposure to agrochemicals has been identified as one of the potential threats to bees, the present systematic review compiled information from toxicological evaluations in stingless bees in Brazil, home to a considerable portion of the existing species. This systematic review was performed considering species, research institutions, scientific journals, metrics, experimental set ups, and agrochemicals. The first article in this topic was published in 2010. Since then, 93 scientific papers were published, which showed that there are few species of stingless bees used for toxicological evaluations and Brazilian institutions lead these evaluations. Only 1.5% of the stingless bees' species that occur in Brazil were assessed through chronic exposure in the larval stage. The Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV) is responsible for 37% of the total publications. The main route of exposure was acute, using adults in laboratory conditions. The main group of agrochemicals studied were insecticides, in particular the neonicotinoids. The current results reveal the advances achieved and point out the gaps that still need to be filled considering toxicological evaluations in stingless bees.

Some mosquitoes, including species of the genus Toxorhynchites, are known for actively preying on other mosquito larvae, making these predators valuable allies in the fight against vector-borne diseases. A comprehensive understanding of the anatomy and physiology of these potential biological control agents is helpful for the development of effective strategies for controlling vector populations. This includes the antennae, a crucial component in the search for hosts, mating, and selection of oviposition sites. This study utilized scanning electron microscopy to characterize the sensilla on the antennae of adult mosquitoes from two species that are exclusively phytophagous, including Toxorhynchites theobaldi and Toxorhynchites violaceus, as well as Lutzia bigoti, which females are allegedly hematophagous. The types of sensilla in each species were compared, and five basic types of antennal sensilla were identified: trichoid, chaetic, coeloconic, basiconic, and ampullacea. The analysis also found that they were morphologically similar across the three species, regardless of feeding habits or sex. The identification and characterization of basic types of antennal sensilla in T. theobaldi, T. violaceus, and L. bigoti suggest that these structures, which play a crucial role in the behavior and ecology, have common functions across different mosquito species, despite differences in feeding habits or sex.

Resumo Os tumores dos ossos do carpo devem ser investigados em quadros clínicos de dor crônica no punho sem trauma prévio. Gânglio intraósseo, encondroma, osteoma osteoide, e, menos comumente, osteoblastoma são possíveis causas de lesões osteolíticas que afetam os ossos carpais. Na maioria dos casos, a apresentação clínica por si só não é suficiente para diferenciar essas lesões. Conhecer características como o aspecto radiológico e histopatológico de cada uma delas é parte fundamental do diagnóstico diferencial. Apresentamos um caso raro de osteoblastoma do osso capitato, e também fazemos uma revisão da literatura sobre o assunto.

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) operating in aqueous electrolyte are an emerging technology that promises to be safer, cheaper, more sustainable and more efficient than their lithium-based counterparts. One of the great challenges associated with this technology is the development of advanced materials with high specific capacity to be used as electrodes. Herein, we describe an ingenious strategy to prepare unprecedented tri-component nanoarchitected thin films with superior performance when applied as anodes in aqueous SIBs. Taking advantage of the broadness and versatility of the liquid-liquid interfacial route, three transparent nanocomposite films comprising graphene, molybdenum sulphide and copper oxide nanoparticles have been prepared. The samples were characterized using several techniques, and the results demonstrated that depending on the specific experimental strategy, different nanoarchitectures are achieved, resulting in different and improved properties. An astonishing capacity of 1377 mA h g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 and a degree of recovery of 100% were observed for the film in which the interactions among the components were optimized. This is among the highest capacity values reported in the literature and demonstrates the potential of these tri-component materials to be used as anodes in aqueous sodium-ion batteries.

Controlling acquiescence bias typically involves the application of positive and negative keyed items. However, little is known about the effect of balancing positive and negative items on bias control. The aim of this study was to compare three Confirmatory Factor Analysis models (without control, MIMIC, and Random Intercept) to recover the factor structure of unbalanced and balanced instruments, using simulated and real data (from an instrument that assesses Personality). By controlling for acquiescence, the results indicated that the performance of balanced scales was better than that of unbalanced scales, as well as in the absence of control for response bias, when considering balanced and unbalanced scales. Thus, this research suggests the possibility of controlling acquiescence through balanced instruments associated with the use of statistical methods in modeling.(AU)
O controle do viés de aquiescência normalmente envolve a aplicação de itens positivos e negativos. Contudo, pouco se sabe sobre o efeito do balanceamento entre itens positivos e negativos sobre o controle do viés. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar três modelos de Análise Fatorial Confirmatória (sem controle, MIMIC e Intercepto Randômico) para recuperar a estrutura fatorial de instrumentos desbalanceados e balanceados, a partir de dados simulados e reais (procedentes de um instrumento que avalia Personalidade). Mediante o controle da aquiescência, os resultados indicaram que a performance de escalas balanceadas foi melhor do que de escalas desbalanceadas, bem como na ausência de controle desse viés de resposta, ao considerar as escalas balanceadas e desbalanceadas. Dessa maneira, esta pesquisa aponta para a possibilidade de controle de aquiescência por meio de instrumentos balanceados associada ao uso dos métodos estatísticos na modelagem.(AU)
El control del sesgo de aquiescencia involucra la aplicación de ítems positivos y negativos. Sin embargo, el efecto del equilibrio entre ítems positivos y negativos en el control del sesgo sigue siendo una pregunta abierta. En este sentido, el objetivo de este estudio fue comparar tres modelos de Análisis Factorial Confirmatorio (sin control, MIMIC e Intercepto Aleatorio) para recuperar la estructura factorial de instrumentos balanceados y desbalanceados, a partir de datos simulados y reales (a partir de un instrumento que evalúa personalidad). El control de este sesgo de respuesta indicó que el desempeño de escalas balanceadas fue mejor que el de escalas desbalanceadas, así como en la ausencia del control de la aquiescencia, al considerar escalas balanceadas y desbalanceadas. Por lo tanto, esta investigación sugiere la posibilidad de controlar este sesgo de respuesta por medio de instrumentos balanceados asociados con el uso de métodos estadísticos modelado.(AU)

The appearance of new viruses and diseases has made the development of rapid and reliable diagnostic tests crucial. In light of it, we proposed a new method for assembling an electrochemical immunosensor, based on a one-step approach for selective layer formation. For this purpose, a mixture containing the immobilizing agent (polyxydroxybutyrate, PHB) and the recognition element (antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein) was prepared and used to modify a screen-printed carbon electrode with electrodeposited graphene oxide, for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein (N-protein). Under optimum conditions, N-protein was successfully detected in three different matrixes - saliva, serum, and nasal swab, with the lowest detectable values of 50 pg mL-1, 1.0 ng mL-1, and 50 pg mL-1, respectively. Selectivity was assessed against SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain protein (RBD) and antibodies against yellow fever (YF), and no significant response was observed in presence of interferents, reinforcing the suitability of the proposed one-step approach for selective layer formation. The proposed biosensor was stable for up to 14 days, and the mixture was suitable for immunosensor preparation even after 60 days of preparation. The proposed assembly strategy reduces the cost, analysis time, and waste generation. This reduction is achieved through miniaturization, which results in the decreased use of reagents and sample volumes. Additionally, this approach enables healthcare diagnostics to be conducted in developing regions with limited resources. Therefore, the proposed one-step approach for selective layer formation is a suitable, simpler, and a reliable alternative for electrochemical immunosensing.

This study presents a novel approach for the simultaneous detection of ascorbic acid (AA) and dopamine (DA) using an affordable and user-friendly microfluidic device. Microfluidic devices, when combined with electrochemical detectors like screen-printed electrodes (SPEs), offer numerous advantages such as portability, high sample throughput, and low reagent consumption. In this study, a 3D-printed microfluidic device called a µTED was developed, utilizing textile threads as microfluidic channels and an unmodified SPE as the amperometric detector. The method employed multiple pulse amperometry (MPA) with carefully selected potential values (+0.65 V and -0.10 V). The reduction current signals generated by dopamine o-quinone were used to calculate a correction factor for the oxidation signals of ascorbic acid, enabling simultaneous quantification. The developed microfluidic device ensured a stable flow rate of the carrier solution at 1.19 µL s-1, minimizing the consumption of samples and reagents (injection volume of 2.0 µL). Under the optimized experimental conditions, a linear range from 50 to 900 µmol L-1 was achieved for both DA and AA. The obtained sensitivities were 2.24 µA L mmol-1 for AA and 5.09 µA L mmol-1 for DA, with corresponding limits of detection (LOD) of 2.60 µmol L-1 and 1.54 µmol L-1, respectively. To confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method, it was successfully applied to analyze AA and DA in a commercial blood serum sample spiked at three different concentration levels, with a medium recovery rate of 70%. Furthermore, the MPA technique demonstrated its simplicity by enabling the simultaneous determination of AA and DA without the need for prior separation steps or the use of chemically modified electrodes.

The chaperone R2TP has multiple subunits that assist in the proper folding, assembly, and stabilization of various protein complexes in cells and its study can offer valuable insights into the regulation and maintenance of protein assemblies in plant systems. The 'T' component of R2TP is Tah1 in yeast, consisting of 111 residues, while its counterpart in humans is RPAP3, with 665 residues. RPAP3 acts as a co-chaperone of Hsp90 and facilitates interactions between RUVBL proteins and other complex components, enhancing the recruitment of client proteins by the R2TP complex. These facts further underscore the relevance of studying this complex in different organisms. The putative gene corresponding to the RPAP3 in Sorghum bicolor, a monocotyledon plant, was cloned, and the protein (396 residues) purified for biochemical characterization. SbRPAP3 exists as a folded monomer and has a RPAP3 domain, which is present in human RPAP3 but absent in yeast Tah1. SbRPAP3 retains its functional capabilities, including binding with RUVBLs, Hsp90, and Hsp70. By elucidating the role of RPAP3 in plant R2TP complex, we can further comprehend the molecular mechanisms underlying plant-specific protein assembly and contribute to advancements in plant biology and biotechnological applications.

The present study verified the presence of phytoconstituents and evaluated antioxidant (DPPH, FRAP, NO and TBARS tests) and antiglycation (REM test) activities of unconventional wild edible fruits Chrysophyllum cainito, Hancornia speciosa and Plinia glomerata. It was verified the presence of phenolic compounds for all fruits and flavonoids were observed only for C. cainito, which presented in its peel the highest total phenols (90.34 µg GAE mg-1) and flavonoids (30.4 µg RE mg-1) content. Sugar concentration was significant for all fruits, where H. speciosa showed the highest reducing sugar content (576.12 mg g-1) and C. cainito pulp showed the highest total sugar content (858.67 mg g-1). All fruits presented vitamin C and carotenoids, highlighting P. glomerata with the best results for ascorbic acid (2260.94 mg 100 g-1) and carotenoids (59.62 µg g-1). Extracts presented antioxidant activity, highlighting C. cainito peel that presented 65.64% (DPPH), 231.34 µM TE L-1 (FRAP), 49.34% (NO) and 22.56% (TBARS), while in antiglycation evaluation, P. glomerata showed evident activity. Therefore, it was possible to determine different phytoconstituents, and antioxidant and antiglycation activities of the fruits. These data provide subsidies for application of these fruits in new studies, to increase knowledge and preservation of these species.

Neglected tropical diseases are those caused by infectious agents or parasites and are considered endemic in low-income populations. These diseases also have unacceptable indicators and low investment in research, drug production, and control. Tropical diseases such as leishmaniasis are some of the main causes of morbidity and mortality around the globe. Electrochemical immunosensors are promising tools for diagnostics against these diseases. One such benefit is the possibility of assisting diagnosis in isolated regions, where laboratory infrastructure is lacking. In this work, different peptides were investigated to detect antibodies against Leishmania in human and canine serum samples. The peptides evaluated (395-KKG and 395-G) have the same recognition site but differ on their solid-binding domains, which ensure affinity to spontaneously bind to either graphene oxide (GO) or graphene quantum dots (GQD). Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry were employed to investigate the electrochemical behavior of each assembly step and the role of each solid-binding domain coupled to its anchoring material. The graphene affinity peptide (395-G) showed better reproducibility and selectivity when coupled to GQD. Under the optimized set of experimental conditions, negative and positive human serum samples responses were distinguished based on a cut-off value of 82.5% at a 95% confidence level. The immunosensor showed selective behavior to antibodies against Mycobacterium leprae and Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which are similar antibodies and potentially sources of false positive tests. Therefore, the use of the graphene affinity peptide as a recognition site achieved outstanding performance for the detection of Leishmania antibodies.

The mosquito larval midgut is responsible for acquiring and storing most of the nutrients that will sustain the events of metamorphosis and the insect's adult life. Despite its importance, the basic biology of this larval organ is poorly understood. To help fill this gap, we carried out a comparative morphophysiological investigation of three larval midgut regions (gastric caeca, anterior midgut, and posterior midgut) of phylogenetically distant mosquitoes: Anopheles gambiae (Anopheles albimanus was occasionally used as an alternate), Aedes aegypti, and Toxorhynchites theobaldi. Larvae of Toxorhynchites mosquitoes are predacious, in contrast to the other two species, that are detritivorous. In this work, we show that the larval gut of the three species shares basic histological characteristics, but differ in other aspects. The lipid and carbohydrate metabolism of the An. gambiae larval midgut is different compared with that of Ae. aegypti and Tx. theobaldi. The gastric caecum is the most variable region, with differences probably related to the chemical composition of the diet. The peritrophic matrix is morphologically similar in the three species, and processes involved in the post-embryonic development of the organ, such as cell differentiation and proliferation, were also similar. FMRF-positive enteroendocrine cells are grouped in the posterior midgut of Tx. theobaldi, but individualized in An. gambiae and Ae. aegypti. We hypothesize that Tx. theobaldi larval predation is an ancestral condition in mosquito evolution.

The disposal of plastics and metal-derived compounds results in the contamination of the environment with nano/microparticles, leading to the exposure of various organisms to these harmful particles. However, the impacts of these particles on pollinating insects, which provide relevant ecosystem services, are not well understood. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of microscopic particles on the tropical pollinator Partamona helleri (Apinae: Meliponini), specifically evaluating the toxicity of plastic microparticles (polystyrene - PS, and polyethylene terephthalate - PET) and nanoparticles of a metal oxide (titanium dioxide - TiO2) via larval ingestion by bees reared in vitro. The survival rate of P. helleri larvae was not affected by the ingestion of particles of PS (500 ng/bee), PET (500 ng/bee), or TiO2 (10 µg/bee) compared to the non-treated diet (control or diet without the particles). Adults derived from treated larvae had increased body weight compared to the control, and the walking behavior of adults was altered by the ingestion of particles. Adults that ingested PET or TiO2 as larvae tended to rest for a longer time and interact more with other bees than the control. Hemocyte counts also changed, with a shift in the proportion of plasmatocytes and prohemocytes in treated individuals. Our findings suggest that even levels considered low for honey bees of exposure to plastic microparticles or metal nanoparticles can harm the health and behavior of stingless bees.

Over the last few decades, agrochemicals have been partially associated with a global reduction in bees' population. Toxicological assessment is therefore crucial for understanding the overall agrochemical risks to stingless bees. Therefore, the lethal and sublethal effects of agrochemicals commonly used in crops (copper sulfate, glyphosate, and spinosad) on the behavior and gut microbiota of the stingless bee, Partamona helleri, were assessed using chronic exposure during the larval stage. When used at the field-recommended rates, both copper sulfate (200 µg of active ingredient/bee; a.i µg bee-1) and spinosad (8.16 a.i µg bee-1) caused a decrease in bee survival, while glyphosate (148 a.i µg bee-1) did not show any significant effects. No significant adverse effects on bee development were observed in any treatment with CuSO4 or glyphosate, but spinosad (0.08 or 0.03 a.i µg bee -1) increased the number of deformed bees and reduced their body mass. Agrochemicals changed the behavior of bees and composition of the gut microbiota of adult bees, and metals such as copper accumulated in the bees' bodies. The response of bees to agrochemicals depends on the class or dose of the ingested compound. In vitro rearing of stingless bees' larvae is a useful tool to elucidate the sublethal effects of agrochemicals.
