RESUMEN

Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a highly sensitive analytical detection method commonly employed in biochemical and environmental analysis. Nevertheless, the rapid movement of analytes and interfering components in flow systems can impact the real-time, online detection capability of Raman spectroscopy. To address this issue, we developed an innovative approach utilizing covalent organic framework (COF), a robust porous material with excellent water stability, to coat the surface of Ag nanowire (AgNW) for synthesizing AgNW@COF hybrid. The regular pores of the COF serve to effectively eliminate large interfering molecules while facilitating the efficient transport of specific analytes to SERS hot spots. Additionally, the fluid flow-induced scouring effect aids in excluding interfering molecules from the surface of AgNW. By incorporating AgNW@COF into a bifunctional filter membrane with simultaneous filtration and sensing capabilities, we had achieved efficient purification of organic pollutants as well as real-time identification of pollutant species and concentration.

Pleurisy can be categorized as primary or secondary, arising from immunological, tumorous, or microbial conditions. It often results in lung structure damage and the development of various respiratory issues. Among the different types, tuberculous pleurisy has emerged as a prominent focus for both clinical and scientific investigations. The IL-10 family, known for its anti-inflammatory properties in the human immune system, is increasingly being studied for its involvement in the pathogenesis of pleurisy. This review aims to present a detailed overview of the intricate role of IL-10 family members (specifically IL-10, IL-22, and IL-26) in human and animal pleuritic diseases or relevant animal models. These insights could serve as valuable guidance and references for further studies on pleurisy and potential therapeutic strategies.

When catalytic reactions are interfered with by radiation sources, thorium clusters are promising as potential catalysts due to their superior radiation resistance. However, there is currently very little research on the design synthesis and catalytic application of radiation-stable thorium clusters. In this work, we have elaborately engineered and fabricated three high-nuclear thorium cluster catalysts denoted as Th12L3-MA12, Th12L3-MA6-BF6, and Th12L3-Fcc12, which did not undergo any significant alterations in their molecular structures and compositions after irradiation with 690 kGy γ-rays. We systematically investigated the photocatalytic/thermocatalytic properties of these radiation-resistant thorium clusters for the first time and found that γ-rays could not alter their catalytic activities. In addition, it was found that ligand engineering could modulate the catalytic activity of thorium clusters, thus expanding the range of catalytic applications of thorium clusters, including reduction reactions (nitroarene reduction) and some oxidation reactions (N-heterocyclic oxidative dehydrogenation and diphenylmethane oxidation). Meanwhile, all of these organic transformation reactions achieved a >80% conversion and nearly 100% product selectivity. Radiation experiments combined with DFT calculations showed that the synergistic catalysis of thorium-oxo core and ligands led to the generation of specific active species (H+, O2•-, or tBuO/tBuOO•) and activation of substrate molecules, thus achieving superior catalytic performance. This work is not only the first to develop radiation-resistant thorium cluster catalysts to perform efficient redox reactions but also provides design ideas for the construction of high-nuclearity thorium clusters under mild conditions.

The primary and initial manifestations of hypertension encompass arterial hypoelasticity and histiocyte senescence. Oxidative stress plays a pivotal role in the progression of senescence. Elevated intracellular oxidative stress levels will directly induce cell damage, disrupt normal physiological signal transduction, which can cause mitochondrial dysfunction to accelerate the process of senescence. Alizarin, an anthraquinone active ingredient isolated from Rubia cordifolia L., has a variety of pharmacological effects, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-platelet. Nevertheless, its potential in lowering blood pressure (BP) and mitigating hypertension-induced vascular senescence remains uncertain. In this study, we used spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) to establish a model of vascular senescence in hypertension. Our aim was to elucidate the mechanisms underpinning the vascular protective effects of Alizarin. By assessing systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), H&E staining, SA-ß-Gal staining, vascular function, oxidative stress levels, calcium ion concentration and mitochondrial membrane potential, we found that Alizarin not only restored SBP and increased endothelium-dependent relaxation (EDR) in SHR, but also inhibited oxidative stress-induced mitochondrial damage and significantly delayed the vascular senescence effect in hypertension, and the mechanism may be related to the activation of VEGFR2/eNOS signaling pathway.

Aim: In China, with the increase of life expectancy and the decrease of fertility rate, the aging problem has become increasingly prominent, and the physical problems of the older people over 70 years are the key and difficult problems. Method: Based on the interactive logic between the aging problem and the older people health, in the study, a questionnaire survey and a nationwide physical fitness test were carried out on the older people over 70, to divide into different age groups (70-74 years old, 75-79 years old, 80-84 years old, 85 years old and older) and different genders. There were 8,400 valid samples, and 1,050 persons in each group. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the differences among groups of different ages, and a broken line chart was drawn to discuss the aging characteristics of various physical indexes of the older people over 70 in China. Result: (1) Body morphology: male waist circumference, male waist-to-height ratio and female BMI showed a gradual downward trend with the increase of age; (2) Physiological function: male and female vital capacity showed a decreasing trend with the increase of age, while female pulse pressure showed a gradual upward trend. (3) Physical quality: the indicators of male and female muscle strength, flexibility quality, aerobic endurance and balance showed a downward trend with the increase of age. Conclusion: Vital capacity, flexibility quality, muscle strength, aerobic endurance, balance ability and so on, decreased significantly with the growth of age. 80 years old is the inflection point of the rapid decline of various indicators. Blood pressure, silent pulse, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-height ratio and other indicators did not change regularly with age. Indicators such as blood pressure, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio and waist-to-height ratio were in the high-risk range of metabolic diseases and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The study conducted physical fitness test on the older people over 70 years old in 7 geographical regions of China, which is the first nationwide physical fitness test for the older people, which is an extension and expansion of the national physical fitness monitoring system, and also shows that the test indicators involved in the "Health fitness scale" are simple and feasible. And the study added a series of test data over 70 years old, which is the basis for scientific and reasonable formulation of physical fitness evaluation standards for the older people, and is of great significance for improving the national physical fitness database and grasping the dynamic changes of national physical health status, and providing data support for scientific guidance of physical exercise for the older people.

In order to solve the issue of idle rural homesteads and enhance the welfare of peasant households, the Chinese government has implemented various rural homestead withdrawal patterns. In the context of land spatial planning regulation, based on the field survey data from 210 peasant households in Xuzhou City and Ganzhou City, this study constructs a bilateral matching model between rural homestead withdrawal patterns and types of welfare needs of peasant households. This study uses a Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm improved on the 0-1 knapsack strategy to solve the matching model, aiming to find the optimal homestead withdrawal patterns that match the types of peasant households. The results show that: (1) The matching of rural homestead withdrawal patterns and types of peasant households conforms to the principle of comparative advantage. (2) In the case of "one-to-one matching" between peasant households and homestead withdrawal patterns, matching the "economic-material-oriented" peasant households with the withdrawal pattern of "monetary compensation", matching the "social-service-oriented" peasant households with withdrawal pattern of "indicator replacement", and matching the "welfare-assistance-oriented" peasant households with the withdrawal pattern of "asset replacement". (3) The bilateral overall preference of the combined rural homestead withdrawal patterns is higher than that of the single rural homestead withdrawal pattern, and satisfaction has increased by at least 8 %. The authors argue that the government should design and implement diversified withdrawal patterns based on a full understanding of the welfare needs of peasant households.

BACKGROUND: The aim is to establish and verify reference intervals (RIs) for serum tumor markers for an apparently healthy elderly population in Southwestern China using an indirect method. METHODS: Data from 35,635 apparently healthy elderly individuals aged 60 years and above were obtained in West China Hospital from April 2020 to December 2021. We utilized the Box-Cox conversion combined with the Tukey method to normalize the data and eliminate outliers. Subgroups are divided according to gender and age to examine the division of RIs. The Z-test was used to compare differences between groups, and 95% distribution RIs were calculated using a nonparametric method. RESULTS: In the study, we observed that the RIs for serum ferritin and Des-γ-carboxy prothrombin (DCP) were wider for men, ranging from 64.18 to 865.80 ng/ml and 14.00 to 33.00 mAU/ml, respectively, compared to women, whose ranges were 52.58 to 585.88 ng/ml and 13.00 to 29.00 mAU/ml. For other biomarkers, the overall RIs were established as follows: alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) 0-6.75 ng/ml, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) 0-4.85 ng/ml, carbohydrate antigen15-3 (CA15-3) for females 0-22.00 U/ml, carbohydrate antigen19-9 (CA19-9) 0-28.10 U/ml, carbohydrate antigen125 (CA125) 0-20.96 U/ml, cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA21-1) 0-4.66 U/ml, neuron-specific enolase (NSE) 0-19.41 ng/ml, total and free prostate-specific antigens (tPSA and fPSA) for males 0-5.26 ng/ml and 0-1.09 ng/ml. The RIs for all these biomarkers have been validated through our rigorous processes. CONCLUSION: This study preliminarily established 95% RIs for an apparently healthy elderly population in Southwestern China. Using real-world data and an indirect method, simple and reliable RIs for an elderly population can be both established and verified, which are suitable for application in various clinical laboratories.

BACKGROUND: The grading of adult isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-mutant astrocytomas is a crucial prognostic factor. PURPOSE: To investigate the value of conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) in the grading of adult IDH-mutant astrocytomas, and to analyze the correlation between ADC and the Ki-67 proliferation index. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The clinical and MRI data of 82 patients with adult IDH-mutant astrocytoma who underwent surgical resection and molecular genetic testing with IDH and 1p/19q were retrospectively analyzed. The conventional MRI features, ADCmin, ADCmean, and nADC of the tumors were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis single factor ANOVA and chi-square tests. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were drawn to evaluate conventional MRI and ADC accuracy in differentiating tumor grades. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to determine the correlation between ADC and the Ki-67 proliferation index. RESULTS: The difference in enhancement, ADCmin, ADCmean, and nADC among WHO grade 2, 3, and 4 tumors was statistically significant (all P <0.05). ADCmin showed the preferable diagnostic accuracy for grading WHO grade 2 and 3 tumors (AUC=0.724, sensitivity=63.4%, specificity=80%, positive predictive value (PPV)=62.0%; negative predictive value (NPV)=82.5%), and distinguishing grade 3 from grade 4 tumors (AUC=0.764, sensitivity=70%, specificity=76.2%, PPV=75.0%, NPV=71.4%). Enhancement + ADC model showed an optimal predictive accuracy (grade 2 vs. 3: AUC = 0.759; grade 3 vs. 4: AUC = 0.799). The Ki-67 proliferation index was negatively correlated with ADCmin, ADCmean, and nADC (all P <0.05), and positively correlated with tumor grade. CONCLUSION: Conventional MRI features and ADC are valuable to predict pathological grading of adult IDH-mutant astrocytomas.

This study investigates the influence of aging-related genes on endometrial cancer, a prominent gynecological malignancy with rising incidence and mortality. By analyzing gene expression differences between cancerous and normal endometrial tissues, 42 aging-related genes were identified as differentially expressed. Utilizing the TCGA-UCEC sample, consensus clustering divided the samples into two molecular subgroups, Aging low and Aging high, based on their expression profiles. These subgroups showed distinct prognoses and survival rates, with the Aging high group associated with DNA repair and cell cycle pathways, and the Aging low group showing suppressed metabolic pathways and increased immune cell infiltration, suggesting a potential for better immunotherapy outcomes. Mutation analysis did not find significant differences in mutation frequencies between the groups, but a high Tumor Mutation Burden (TMB) correlated with better prognosis. A risk score model was also developed, showcasing significant prognostic power. Further analysis of the SIX1 gene revealed its overexpression in cancer cells. Drug sensitivity tests indicated that the low-risk group might respond better to chemotherapy. This research underscores the significance of aging-related genes in endometrial cancer, offering insights into their prognostic value and therapeutic potential, which could lead to personalized treatment approaches and enhanced patient management.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the immunopathogenic mechanisms of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor encephalitis (NMDAR-E) by characterizing the changes of immune cells in both peripheral blood (PB) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with NMDAR-E. METHODS: Cytology and flow cytometry were used to explore and compare different immunological parameters in PB and CSF of patients with NMDAR-E, viral encephalitis (VE) and healthy volunteers. Moreover, different models were established to assess the possibility of identifying NMDAR-E patients based on PB and CSF parameters. RESULTS: The neutrophil counts and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratios (MLR) in PB are higher in NMDAR-E patients than in both VEs and controls (P < 0.001, respectively), while the percentages of CD3 + T, CD4 + T lymphocytes, and the leukocytes count in CSF were lower in NMDAR-Es than in VEs (P < 0.01, respectively). The higher percentages of CD8 + T cells in blood and CSF were both correlated with more severe NMDAR-E (P < 0.05, respectively). The poor neurological status group had significantly higher PB leukocytes but lower CSF leukocyte count (P < 0.05). Longitudinal observations in patients with NMDAR-E showed a decreasing trend of leukocyte count, neutrophils count, neutrophil-to-monocyte ratios (NMR), and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratios (NLR) with the gradual recovery of neurological function. CONCLUSIONS: The expression patterns of T lymphocyte subsets were different in patients with NMDAR-E and viral encephalitis. The changing trends of leukocyte and lymphocyte populations in peripheral blood and cerebrospinal fluid may provide clues for the diagnosis of different types of encephalitides, including NMDARE, and can be used as immunological markers to assess and predict the prognosis.

Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) has been linked to increased severity and incidence of airway diseases, especially chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. Airway remodeling is an important event in both COPD and asthma, and airway smooth muscle cells (ASMCs) are key cells which directly involved in airway remodeling. However, it was unclear how PM2.5 affected ASMCs. This study investigates the effects of PM2.5 on airway smooth muscle and its mechanism. We first showed that inhaled particulate matter was distributed in the airway smooth muscle bundle, combined with increased airway smooth muscle bundle and collagen deposition in vivo. Then, we demonstrated that PM2.5 induced up-regulation of collagen-I and alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) expression in rat and human ASMCs in vitro. Next, we found PM2.5 led to rat and human ASMCs senescence and exhibited senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) by autophagy-induced GATA4/TRAF6/NF-κB signaling, which contributed to collagen-I and α-SMA synthesis as well as airway smooth muscle remodeling. Together, our results provided evidence that SASP induced by PM2.5 in airway smooth muscle cells prompted airway remodeling.

Triacylglycerol (TAG) accumulation is frequently triggered in vegetative tissues experiencing heat stress, which may increases plant basal plant thermo-tolerance by sequestering the toxic lipid intermediates that contribute to membrane damage or cell death under stress conditions. However, stress-responsive TAG biosynthesis and the underlying regulatory mechanisms are not fully understood. Here, we investigated the lipidomic and transcriptomic landscape under heat stress in the leaves of sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.), an important oilseed crop in tropical regions. Under heat stress (45 °C), the content of polyunsaturated TAGs (e.g., TAG18:2 and TAG18:3) and total TAGs were significantly higher, while those of unsaturated sterol esters, including ZyE 28:4, SiE 18:2 and SiE 18:3, were dramatically lower. Transcriptome analysis showed that the expression of PvDGAT2-2, encoding a type II diacylglycerol acyltransferase (DGAT) that is critical for TAG biosynthesis, was substantially induced under heat stress. We confirmed the function of PvDGAT2-2 in TAG production by complementing a yeast mutant defective in TAG biosynthesis. Importantly, we also identified the heat-induced transcription factor PvMYB1 as an upstream activator of PvDGAT2-2 transcription. Our findings on the molecular mechanism leading to TAG biosynthesis in leaves exposed to heat stress have implications for improving the biotechnological production of TAGs in vegetative tissues, offering an alternative to seeds.

The performance applications (e.g., photocatalysis) of zirconium (Zr) and hafnium (Hf) based complexes are greatly hindered by the limited development of their structures and the relatively inert metal reactivity. In this work, we constructed two ultrastable Zr/Hf-based clusters (Zr9-TC4A and Hf9-TC4A) using hydrophobic 4-tert-butylthiacalix[4]arene (H4TC4A) ligands, in which unsaturated coordinated sulfur (S) atoms on the TC4A4- ligand can generate strong metal-ligand synergy with nearby active metal Zr/Hf sites. As a result, these two functionalized H4TC4A ligands modified Zr/Hf-oxo clusters, as catalysts for the amine oxidation reaction, exhibited excellent catalytic activity, achieving very high substrate conversion (>99%) and product selectivity (>90%). Combining comparative experiments and theoretical calculations, we found that these Zr/Hf-based cluster catalysts accomplish efficient amine oxidation reactions through synergistic effect between metals and ligands: (i) The photocatalytic benzylamine (BA) oxidation reaction was achieved by the synergistic effect of the dual active sites, in which, the naked S sites on the TC4A4- ligand oxidize the BA by photogenerated hole and oxygen molecules are reduced by photogenerated electrons on the metal active sites; (ii) in the aniline oxidation reaction, aniline was adsorbed by the bare S sites on ligands to be closer to metal active sites and then oxidized by the oxygen-containing radicals activated by the metal sites, thus completing the catalytic reaction under the synergistic catalytic effect of the proximity metal-ligand. In this work, the Zr/Hf-based complexes applied in the oxidation of organic amines have been realized using active S atom-directed metal-ligand synergistic catalysis and have demonstrated very high reactivity.

It is not uncommon for metals to corrode, causing the properties of the material to be affected. Superhydrophobic materials have made effective advances in metal corrosion protection because they can effectively insulate liquids from being trapped on metal surfaces. In this study, self-assembled films were formed using octadecanethiol (ODT) modification to obtain superhydrophobic as well as superoleophilic bifunctional materials. With a water contact angle (WCA) of 156°, the material surface exhibits excellent self-cleaning properties. It is also stable in highly corrosive environments. The good hydrophobicity of the material is due to the more tightly arranged conical structure and the ODT coatings of the treated copper mesh surface. The Cassie-Baxter equation calculations showed that the total exposed area of water droplets in air (91.35%) is significantly higher than the area in contact with metal surfaces. This work provides a new strategy for the design of self-assembled surface-modified superhydrophobic materials with excellent performance and stable properties by controlling the chemical composition and morphology of the material surface. The materials are prepared by avoiding cumbersome steps and the use of unusual materials and instrumentation, which allows our designs to greatly reduce the economic costs of time, labor, and raw materials, and to facilitate large-scale industrial preparation and application. The prepared superhydrophobic and superoleophilic synergistic surfaces have excellent self-cleaning properties, wetting stability, anti-corrosive properties, oil-water separation properties, coagulation properties, and durability and have a wide range of applications in the fields of anti-corrosion and seawater desalination.

Systemic therapy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (BC) remains dominated by cisplatin-based chemotherapy. However, resistance to cisplatin therapy greatly limits long-term survival. Resistance to cisplatin-based chemotherapy still needs to be addressed. In this study, we established three cisplatin-resistant BC cell lines by multiple cisplatin pulse treatments. Interestingly, after exposure to cisplatin, all cisplatin-resistant cell lines showed lower reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels than the corresponding parental cell lines. Using proteomic analysis, we identified 35 proteins that were upregulated in cisplatin-resistant BC cells. By knocking down eleven of these genes, we found that after CAB39 knockdown, BC cisplatin-resistant cells were more sensitive to cisplatin. Overexpression of CAB39 had the opposite effect. Then, the knockdown of six genes downstream of CAB39 revealed that CAB39 promoted cisplatin resistance in BC through LKB1. Moreover, a key cause of cisplatin-induced cell death is damage to mitochondria and increased ROS levels. In our study, cisplatin-resistant cells exhibited higher autophagic flux and healthier mitochondrial status after cisplatin exposure. We demonstrated that the CAB39-LKB1-AMPK-LC3 pathway plays a critical role in enhancing autophagy to maintain the health of mitochondria and reduce ROS levels. In addition, the autophagy inhibitor chloroquine (CQ) can significantly enhance the killing effect of cisplatin on BC cells. Compared with gemcitabine plus cisplatin (GC), GC plus CQ significantly reduced tumor burden in vivo. In conclusion, our study shows that CAB39 counteracts the killing of cisplatin by enhancing the autophagy of BC cells to damaged mitochondria and other organelles to alleviate the damage of cells caused by harmful substances such as ROS.

Although lipophilic membrane dyes (LMDs) or probes (LMPs) are widely used to label extracellular vesicles (EVs) for detection and purification, their labelling performance has not been systematically characterized. Through concurrent side scattering and fluorescence detection of single EVs as small as 40 nm in diameter by a laboratory-built nano-flow cytometer (nFCM), present study identified that (1) PKH67 and PKH26 could maximally label ∼60%-80% of EVs isolated from the conditioned cell culture medium (purity of ∼88%) and ∼40%-70% of PFP-EVs (purity of ∼73%); (2) excessive PKH26 could cause damage to the EV structure; (3) di-8-ANEPPS and high concentration of DiI could achieve efficient and uniform labelling of EVs with nearly 100% labelling efficiency for di-8-ANEPPS and 70%-100% for DiI; (4) all the four tested LMDs can aggregate and form micelles that exhibit comparable side scatter and fluorescence intensity with those of labelled EVs and thus hardly be differentiate from each other; (5) as the LMD concentration went up, the particle number of self-aggregates increased while the fluorescence intensity of aggregates remained constant; (6) PKH67 and PKH26 tend to form more aggregated micelles than di-8-ANEPPS and DiI, and the effect of LMD self-aggregation can be negligible at optimal staining conditions. (7) All the four tested LMDs can label almost all the very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles, indicating potential confounding factor in plasma-EV labelling. Besides, it was discovered that DSPE-PEG2000 -biotin can only label ∼50% of plasma-EVs. The number of LMP inserted into the membrane of single EVs was measured for the first time and it was confirmed that membrane labelling by lipophilic dyes did not interfere with the immunophenotyping of EVs. nFCM provides a unique perspective for a better understanding of EV labelling by LMD/LMP.

Vascular dementia (VD) is one of the most common causes of dementia, taking account for about 20% of all cases. Although studies have found that selenium supplementation can improve the cognitive ability of Alzheimer's patients, there is currently no research on the cognitive impairment caused by VD. This study aimed to investigate the role and mechanism of Amorphous selenium nanodots (A SeNDs) in the prevention of VD. The bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO) method was used to establish a VD model. The neuroprotective effect of A SeNDs was evaluated by Morris water maze, Transcranial Doppler TCD, hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, Neuron-specific nuclear protein (Neu N) staining and Golgi staining. Detect the expression levels of oxidative stress and Calcium-calmodulin dependent protein kinase II (CaMK II), N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit NR2A, and postsynaptic dense protein 95 (PSD95). Finally, measure the concentration of calcium ions in neuronal cells. The results showed that A SeNDs could significantly improve the learning and memory ability of VD rats, restore the posterior arterial blood flow of the brain, improve the neuronal morphology and dendritic remodeling of pyramidal cells in hippocampal CA1 area, reduce the level of oxidative stress in VD rats, increase the expression of NR2A, PSD95, CaMK II proteins and reduce intracellular calcium ion concentration, but the addition of selective NR2A antagonist NVP-AAMO77 eliminated these benefits. It suggests that A SeNDs may improve cognitive dysfunction in vascular dementia rats by regulating the NMDAR pathway.

RESUMEN

We propose a time-reversal-even spin generation in second order of electric fields, which dominates the current induced spin polarization in a wide class of centrosymmetric nonmagnetic materials, and leads to a novel nonlinear spin-orbit torque in magnets. We reveal a quantum origin of this effect from the momentum space dipole of the anomalous spin polarizability. First-principles calculations predict sizable spin generations in several nonmagnetic hcp metals, in monolayer TiTe_{2}, and in ferromagnetic monolayer MnSe_{2}, which can be detected in experiment. Our work opens up the broad vista of nonlinear spintronics in both nonmagnetic and magnetic systems.

An equilibrium acidity (pKa) scale that comprises 16 Brönsted organic acids, including phenols, carboxylic acids, azoles, and phenylmalononitriles, was established in a choline chloride/EG-based deep eutectic solvent (DES) ([Ch][Cl]:2EG) by ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopic methods. The established acidity scale spans about 6 pK units in the DES, which is similar to that for these acids in water. The acidity comparisons and linear correlations between the DES and other solvents show that the solvent property of [Ch][Cl]:2EG is quite different from those of amphiphilic protic and dipolar aprotic molecular solvents. The carbon dioxide absorption capabilities as well as apparent absorption kinetics for a series of anion-functionalized DESs ([Ch][X]:2EG) were measured, and the results show that the basicity of comprising anion [X] of choline salt is essential for the maximum carbon dioxide absorption capacity, i.e., a stronger basicity leads to a greater absorption capacity. The possible absorption mechanisms for carbon dioxide absorption in these DESs were also discussed based on the spectroscopic evidence.

The selective photoisomerization or photocyclization of stilbene to achieve value upgrade is of great significance in industry applications, yet it remains a challenge to accomplish both of them through a one-pot photocatalysis strategy under mild conditions. Here, a sevenfold interpenetrating 3D covalent organic framework (TPDT-COF) has been synthesized through covalent coupling between N,N,N,N-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)-1,4-benzenediamine (light absorption and free radical generation) and 5,5'-(2,1,3-benzothiadiazole-4,7-diyl)bis[2-thiophenecarboxaldehyde] (catalytic center). The thus-obtained sevenfold interpenetrating structure presents a functional pore channel with a tunable photocatalytic ability and specific pore confinement effect that can be applied for selective stilbene photoisomerization and photocyclization. Noteworthily, it enables photogeneration of cis-stilbene or phenanthrene with >99% selectivity by simply changing the gas atmosphere under mild conditions (Ar, SeleCis. > 99%, SelePhen. < 1% and O2, SeleCis. < 1%, and SelePhen. > 99%). Theoretical calculations prove that different gas atmospheres possess varying influences on the energy barriers of reaction intermediates, and the pore confinement effect plays a synergistically catalytic role, thus inducing different product generation. This study might facilitate the exploration of porous crystalline materials in selective photoisomerization and photocyclization.
