RESUMEN

Lead-based halide perovskite nanomaterials with excellent optical properties have aroused great attention in the fields of solar cells, light-emitting diodes, lasing, X-ray imaging, etc. However, the toxicity of lead prompts researchers to develop alternatives to cut down the usage of lead. Herein, all-inorganic manganese-based perovskite derivatives, CsMnCl3 nanocrystals (NCs), with uniform size and morphology have been synthesized successfully via a modified hot-injection method. These NCs have a direct bandgap of 4.08 eV and a broadband emission centered at 660 nm. Through introducing modicum lead (1%) into the CsMnCl3 NCs, the photoluminescence intensity greatly improves, and the quantum yield (PLQY) increases from 0.7% to 21%. Furthermore, the CsMnCl3 :1%Pb NCs feature high-efficiency of X-ray absorption and radioluminescence, which make these NCs promising candidates for X-ray imaging.

OBJECTIVE: To compare long-term clinical outcomes between patients with heart failure due to non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) and those due to ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) after cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). METHODS AND RESULTS: EMbase, PubMed, and Cochrane Library were searched for published studies up to December 2017. Twenty-one observational studies with 12,331 patients were enrolled in the present meta-analysis. The results demonstrated that the all-cause mortality in NICM patients was significantly lower than that in ICM patients (RR 1.37, 95% CI 1.16-1.61). In terms of echocardiographic parameters, NICM patients exhibited statistically significant improvement in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (MD 2.70, 95%CI -4.13 to -1.28), and a significant decrement in left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV) (MD 10.41,95% CI 2.10-18.73) and left ventricular end diastolic diameter (LVEDD) (MD 7.63, 95% CI 2.59-12.68) as compared with ICM patients. No significant difference was observed in the improvement of New York Heart Association Functional Classification (MD 0.05, 95% CI -0.05 to 0.15), pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (PASP) (MD -0.61, 95% CI -4.36 to 3.14), and severity of mitral regurgitation (MD 0.00, 95% CI -0.08 to 0.07) between the 2 groups. CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis illustrated that patients with HF due to NICM tended to have better clinical outcomes and LV reverse remodeling as compared with those due to ICM. This finding may help clinicians select patients who respond favorably to CRT, though further research is required to clarify the potential confounding factors and underlying mechanisms for this phenomenon.

BACKGROUND: Suboptimal myocardial reperfusion is common in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). Furthermore, it results in increased infarct size and mortality rates. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the role of aspiration thrombectomy (AT) combined with intracoronary administration of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors (GPI) in the improvement of myocardial reperfusion and clinical outcomes. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CENTRAL databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating combined AT and intracoronary GPI treatment versus AT alone. Outcomes of interest were thrombolysis in myocardial infarction myocardial perfusion grade (TMPG), infarct size (IS) assessed by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), major adverse cardiac events (MACE) at short-term (≤ 1 month) and long-term (6-12 months) follow-up, and bleeding complications during the hospital stay. RESULTS: Eight trials involving 923 patients were included. Compared with AT alone, combined AT and intracoronary GPI significantly increased TMPG 3 flow (RR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.04 to 1.26), reduced IS [mean difference (MD): -3.46, 95% CI: -5.18 to -1.73], and improved LVEF (MD: 1.44, 95% CI: 0.54 to 2.33). Furthermore, GPI use decreased the risk of MACE at long-term follow-up (RR: 0.60, 95% CI: 0.37 to 0.98). There was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence of minor and major bleeding complications. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings showed that compared with AT alone, combined AT and intracoronary GPI treatment resulted in improved myocardial reperfusion, better cardiac function, and MACE-free survival benefits at the long-term follow-up for patients with STEMI undergoing PPCI.

Wheat scab, caused by the fungal pathogen Fusarium graminearum is a devastating disease worldwide. Despite an extensive and coordinated effort to investigate this pathosystem, little progress has been made to understand the molecular basis of host-pathogen interactions, for example how the pathogen causes disease in plant. Recently, a secreted lipase (FGL1) has been identified from the fungus and shown to be an important virulence factor; however, the intrinsic function of FGL1 in plant is unknown. Here, we report the identification of the molecular components that may possibly be involved in the FGL virulence pathway using yeast two hybrid system. FGL gene was amplified from a local virulent strain (F15) and shown to be 99.5% identical to the original published FGL at the amino acid level. We showed that transient expression of this FGL gene by Agroinfiltration in tobacco leaves causes cell death further implicating the role of FGL in virulence. To identify FGL initial physical target in plant, we screened two wheat cDNA libraries using the FGL protein as the bait. From both libraries, a small FKBP-type immunophilin protein, designated wFKBP12, was found to physically interact with FGL. The direct interaction of FGL with wFKBP12 was confirmed in living onion epidermal cells by biomolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC) assay. To investigate further, we then used wFKBP12 protein as bait and identified an elicitor-responsive protein that contains a potential Ca(2+) binding domain. Semi-quantitative PCR showed that this elicitor-responsive gene is down-regulated during the F. graminearum infection suggesting that this protein may be an important component in FGL virulence pathway. This work serves as an initial step to reveal how fungal lipases act as a general virulence factor.

Annexins constitute a family of multifunction and structurally related proteins. These proteins are ubiquitous in the plant kingdom, and are important calcium-dependent membrane-binding proteins that participate in the polar development of different plant regions such as rhizoids, root caps, and pollen tube tips. In this study, a novel cotton annexin gene (designated as GhFAnnx) was isolated from a fiber cDNA library of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum). The full-length cDNA of GhFAnnx comprises an open reading frame of 945 bp that encodes a 314-amino acid protein with a calculated molecular mass of 35.7 kDa and an isoelectric point of 6.49. Genomic GhFAnnx sequences from different cotton species, TM-1, Hai7124 and two diploid progenitor cottons, G. herbaceum (A-genome) and G. raimondii (D-genome) showed that at least two copies of the GhFAnnx gene, each with six exons and five introns in the coding region, were identified in the allotetraploid cotton genome. The GhFAnnx gene cloned from the cDNA library in this study was mapped to the chromosome 10 of the A-subgenome of the tetraploid cotton. Sequence alignment revealed that GhFAnnx contained four repeats of 70 amino acids. Semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction revealed that GhFAnnx is preferentially expressed in different developmental fibers but its expression is low in roots, stems, and leaves. Subcellular localization of GhFAnnx in onion epidermal cells and cotton fibers suggests that this protein is ubiquitous in the epidermal cells of onion, but assembles at the edge and the inner side of the apex of the cotton fiber tips with brilliant spots. In summary, GhFAnnx influences fiber development and is associated with the polar expansion of the cotton fiber during elongation stages.
