RESUMEN

The paper presents a literature review regarding the pathogenesis and therapy options of postinfectious (PI) cough. It was shown that the pathogenesis of PI cough may be multifactorial, and in general, the state is of a great interest for otolaryngologists, because on the one hand, there is a large number of patients with PI cough, and on the other hand, it is unclear practical solution. In this regard, since the pharmacological viewpoint of the largest positive effect can be expected with combination of medications with synergistic actions. One of them is Ascoril expectorant whose effectiveness in both children and adults with respect to the dynamics of cough has been demonstrated in many studies.

RESUMEN

The objective of the present work was to evaluate the effectiveness of the management of coughing caused by postnasal drip syndrome with the use of sinupret. The study included 40 patients allocated to two groups. The patients of group 1 were treated with sinupret while those of group 2 were given tablets containing the powder of Thermopsis lanceolata. The analysis of coughing dynamics has demonstrated that the effectiveness scores of sinupret were higher than those of thermpopsis tablets.

RESUMEN

The objective of the present study was to estimate the efficacy and safety of candibioic designed for the treatment of the patients presenting with diffuse otitis externa and chronic otitis media. The open randomized trial included 40 patients with diffuse otitis externa and 40 ones with chronic otitis media who had undergone a surgical sanitation procedure. Their standard clinical and otorhinolaryngological examination was supplemented by the characteristic of clinical symptoms and personal complaints using the 10-score scale. The composite preparation candibiotic was found to be equally effective for the treatment of both diffuse otitis externa and chronic otitis media. The results of the study give reason to recommend the use of candibiotic as an efficacious and safe drug for the treatment of these conditions.

RESUMEN

Mycotic diseases are ubiquitous pathologies. Candidiasis frequently affects oral and pharyngeal mucosa (oropharyngeal candidiasis). The immunodeficiency conditions are the key factors responsible for the development of mycoses. Colonization of pharyngeal mucosa by yeast-like fungi is a frequent consequence of local and systemic antibacterial therapy. Clinical manifestations of ENT diseases caused by microscopic fungi depend on the localization of the pathological process. Mycotic lesions in the pharynx are especially often caused by fungi of the genus Candida. Mild cases are possible to manage by the local treatment. Severe infection refractory to local therapy and characterized by regular relapses require systemic antimycotic agents to be applied. The application of fluconazole is generally accepted to be the method of choice for the elimination of different strains of Candida.

RESUMEN

The objective of this study was to evaluate clinical efficiency and safety of combined therapy including systemic antibiotics, decongestants, and sinuforte in patients with acute suppurative bacterial rhinosinusitis. The patients allocated to two groups comprising 25 subjects each were treated for a total of 8 days. Those in the study group received sinuforte once daily, 10.0 g of amoxilav twice daily, and xylometazole (BID). Control patients were given only amoxilav and xylometazole at the same doses. Dynamics of subjective and objective signs of rhinosinusitis, the mucociliary transport rate, and tolerance of sinuforte were the main variables assessed in this study. The introduction of sinuforte into combined therapy was shown to significantly improve dynamics of subjective and objective signs of rhinosinusitis compared with control. Results of the treatment with sinuforte are described as excellent in 19 patients against 13 in the control group, as good in 4 and 9 patients and satisfactory in 3 and 2 ones respectively. None of the patients needed puncture of maxillary sinuses in the course of the treatment. The mucociliary transport time prior to therapy was estimated at 22.18+/-3.82 and 22.36+/-3.64 in the study and control groups respectively (the difference was insignificant at p>0.05) compared with 14.88+/-3.12 and 16.02+/-3.98 min (p<0.01) on day 8 after the initiation of therapy. The tolerance of sinuforte was estimated at 5.64 based on the 10-score visual-analogous scale. Results of the study confirm that treatment with sinuforte combined with antibiotics (amoxicillin and clavulante) is a safe and efficacious therapeutic modality for the patients with acute bacterial rhinosinusitis.

RESUMEN

The authors review current knowledge on pathogenesis of allergic rhinosinusitis and bronchial asthma and their relations, show the role of leukotriens in development of respiratory allergy, characterize antileukotrienic medicines. Eleven patients with allergic rhinosinusitis and bronchial asthma received monotherapy with zafirlucast (acolapt) which is a blocker of leukotrienic receptors. Eight patients benefited from the treatment. The positive effect consisted in improvement of nasal respiration, reduction of rhinorrhea, edema of nasal mucosa, size of polyps.

RESUMEN

Because of tonsillogenic intoxication, chronic tonsillitis (CT) impairs reproductive system of women of childbearing age. This may result in dysmenorrhea. CT patients often have hormonal disorders, especially in decompensated CT. Women with dysmenorrhea should be sent for consultation to ENT specialist who will conduct necessary treatment.
