RESUMEN

Spontaneous miscarriages are the most frequent complications of pregnancy and, in at least half of cases, are caused by chromosomal abnormalities, mainly aneuploidies. We present the preliminary results of the implementation of multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) in the detection of chromosomal aberrations in the tissue derived from first-trimester miscarriage and evaluate the limitations and requirements of the method. We studied 181 MLPA analyses with subtelomeric and subcentromeric probe kits for all chromosomes (SALSA P070 and SALSA P181) performed on the first-trimester spontaneous miscarriage products in our Department of Genetics between September 2012 and December 2014. Conclusive MLPA results were obtained in 97.2% of samples. Chromosomal aberrations were detected in 40.3% of samples: 61.8% samples of good quality and 12.6% samples of poor quality (p < 0.001). The normal female karyotype was detected in 14.7% of good quality samples and 84.8% of poor quality samples (p < 0.001). MLPA is a useful tool for the detection of chromosomal aberrations in first-trimester miscarriage products. However, the tissue has to be well prepared before testing and the results 46,XX should be interpreted with caution.

RESUMEN

Prosthodontic treatment, especially restorations of fractured teeth in small animals, has been the subject of many veterinary dental analyses in relation to techniques of endodontic treatment, preparation and cementation, as well as the general principles of prosthodontic treatment. The purpose of this paper is to present a previously undescribed method of all-in-one crown and root prosthetic restoration of fractured teeth in large dogs, together with a thorough analysis of the drawbacks, which may help veterinary dentists to use an evidence-based approach when deciding on the type of treatment for their patients with tooth fractures.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The purpose of the above work is description and assessment of nutritional habits of the patient group operated because of CHD in relation to their income sources. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Among 100 patients hospitalized in The Cardiosurgery Clinic of Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, (72 M and 28 F) there were collected data concerning nutritional habits and income sources. To estimate the way of nutrition there was used the method of a direct interview, led individually according to the questions of an anonymous questionnaire. Quantitative biomedical data connected with body mass index (BMI), systolic (RRs) and diastolic (RRd) blood pressure and total cholesterol (CHL) came from the hospital files. RESULTS: The diet of all investigated people was not consistent with the requirements of rational nutrition in respect of quality (sort of meat, brown bread, fruit and vegetables) and daily quantity of meals. This incorrectness was particularly showed in not working group of people (pensioners, people on unemployment benefits). Almost all measured parameters (BMI, CHL, RRs), except RRd, are higher than commonly admitted referenced values. CONCLUSIONS: Our investigated category of patients proves how important is adapting to the requirements of rational nutrition, especially in lower socio-economic status societies.

RESUMEN

In serum, urine and amniotic fluid obtained from the 52. women divided into three groups the arylsulphatase A (EC 3.1.6.1) activity was measured by the modified Lee-Vaupel and Conzelmann method. It was noticed in serum from the pregnant women with EPH-gestosis the statistically significant (p < 0.05) increase in the enzyme activity comparing to the results from non-pregnant women and pregnant with normal course of pregnancy. It was no statistically significant differences in the urine from pregnant with EPH-gestosis and from the healthy pregnant, but there was the increase (p < 0.01) in the enzyme activity in amniotic fluid from pregnant women with EPH-gestosis comparing to the physiological course of pregnancy. According to our data, the arylsulphatase A activity assay could be recommended as a diagnostic marker in the EPH-gestosis.

RESUMEN

The gamma-glutamyltransferase (EC 2.3.2.2) activity was measured in the blood serum obtained from 25 female patients with the uterine cervix carcinoma 10 and from 21 women with the uterine corpus carcinoma 10, treated by brachytherapy. The enzyme activity was determined in the five time points: before the brachytherapy, in the middle of the treating course, immediately after the application of the full dose of radium and in the seventh and the fourteenth day after the finishing the treatment. It was assumed the changes in the enzyme activity during the treatment course, and the highest values were observed immediately after the brachytherapy. It was noticed, that there is the direct connection between the enzyme activity changes and used brachytherapy method.

RESUMEN

Ten of twenty-six modified Blalock-Taussig shunts performed with fresh frozen vein homograft were studied angiographically. In two of them the shunt was stenosed. The remaining eight shunts were satisfactory. Among them in four irregularities of the inner surface and in four spindle shape of the shunt were observed. The diameter ratio between subclavian artery and homograft at the time of operation and later as seen on the angiograms did not change. This suggests that spindle shape of homograft is caused by growth rather than by aneurysm formation.
