RESUMEN

Ambulatory care RNs and health professions students have limited education on interprofessional care before entering clinical settings. This article describes a program evaluation of a simulation-enhanced interprofessional education (Sim-IPE) experience designed for ambulatory care RNs and health professions students. An 11-item electronic post-Sim-IPE survey was administered to collect perceptions of the Sim-IPE experience. Most responses indicated the Sim-IPE promoted learning about each other's roles, was designed for their level of knowledge and skills, and provided sufficient information. The participants indicated that they felt supported and would use their learning in a clinical setting. Open-ended survey responses identified positive aspects of the Sim-IPE, areas for improvement, and suggestions for future Sim-IPE. The National League for Nursing Jeffries Simulation Theory was used to guide a program evaluation of the Sim-IPE. The program evaluation identified positive aspects and areas for improvement for future interprofessional education experiences. [J Contin Educ Nurs. 2023;54(5):226-232.].

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) developed Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) case studies and new test items, based on the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model, to assess nurse graduates' clinical judgment and decision-making ability. PURPOSE: This study investigated nursing students' perceptions of learning with NGN-style case studies. METHODS: A mixed-methods approach collected nursing students' perceptions in a 6-item survey. RESULTS: Overall respondents agreed that the case studies were helpful in learning (n = 45; 90%), applying course concepts (n = 46; 92%), learning clinical judgment (n = 46, 92%), and promoting active learning (n = 43, 86%), and were a useful learning strategy (n = 48, 96%). Themes identified in narrative comments were critical thinking, real-life application, and a learning tool. CONCLUSIONS: NGN-style case studies were useful as an active learning strategy to promote clinical judgment and real-life application of course concepts.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Research suggests flipped learning may improve student motivation to learn. PURPOSE: This study examined motivation and learning strategies among prelicensure BSN students in a course taught using the flipped learning model. The hypothesis was that flipped learning may improve motivation and learning strategies of students. METHODS: A descriptive, comparative design examined motivation and learning strategies used by students in a flipped learning course. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire and a demographic survey were administered to 25 BSN students at a Midwestern university. RESULTS: Substantial decreases were found from pretest to posttest mean scores for the task value, control of learning beliefs, and help seeking subscales. CONCLUSION: The results did not support the hypothesis that flipped learning would improve motivation and learning strategies. Further research in larger diverse samples of students in a flipped learning course is recommended.

RESUMEN

The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions to increase the awareness and understanding of plagiarism among undergraduate students enrolled in an online allied health professions course in a community college in the Midwestern United States. The results suggested that the interventions were effective in educating students about how to avoid plagiarism.
