RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: A healthy lifestyle is one of the important global concepts in the post-COVID-19 era, which can lead to maintaining and improving the health of societies. This study aimed to identify the factors affecting a healthy lifestyle in the post-COVID-19 era. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The current research is a qualitative study that was conducted in the field by theoretical sampling method. The qualitative method used in the current research was Strauss-Corbin's method. The data collection tool in the current research was a semi-structured interview. The researcher reached theoretical saturation by the end of the 13th interview, and for more certainty, the interviews continued until the 15th interview. The statistical population of the research was all professors and experts with specialized doctorate degrees in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, and finally, 15 people were selected according to the entry and exit criteria for the study. Data analysis was done by summarizing and coding and analyzing the hidden content from expert interviews using MAXQDA software. RESULTS: The factors affecting a healthy lifestyle in the post-COVID-19 era (cultural norms, social norms, biological norms, technological factors, and economic factors) emerged from the intuitive opinions of experts. CONCLUSION: Providing and maintaining health is not a simple task, as it involves biological, individual, familial, cultural, societal, economic, political, and health factors. Promotion of healthy lifestyles is not merely the responsibility of health-related organizations and bodies; rather, they necessitate extensive coordination and empathy among educational, health, cultural, service, and even political institutions and bodies.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Holistic care addresses the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of the patient in which spiritual dimension plays a pivotal role in patient care. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to investigate the association between spiritual intelligence with stress, anxiety, and depression coping styles in patients with cancer. METHODS: This analytic descriptive study was carried out on 276 patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy in university hospitals of Tehran University of Medical Sciences during 2013-2014. The participants were selected using cluster sampling. Data collection tools included patients' medical history, demographic questionnaire developed by researcher, spiritual intelligence self-report inventory questionnaire, ways of coping questionnaire, and depression, anxiety, and stress scales-42. Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyses were conducted to analyze the data using SPSS 20. Differences were considered significant at the P < 0.05 level. RESULTS: There was inverse significant relationship between spiritual intelligence and stress (r = -0.268 and P < 0.001) and between spiritual intelligence and anxiety (r = -0.200 and P = 0.001) and between spiritual intelligence and depression (r = -0.317 and P = 0.000). There was a significant relationship between spiritual intelligence and coping styles (P < 0.01). The highest association was observed between spiritual intelligence and problem-focused strategy or positive reevaluation strategy (P = 0.000 and r = 0.668 and P = 0.000 and r = 0.667, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Spirituality and religion are an important source of strength for adjusting of patients to cancer and help patients to achieve the sense of meaning and purpose in the course of disease. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Establishment of settings in hospitals focusing on using spiritual intelligence to improve treatment outcomes in patients with cancer.

RESUMEN

The present study investigated the effects of different temperatures and sodium dialysate concentration on blood pressure in hemodialysis patients. Following Williams' design, hemodialysis patients were randomly assigned into four dialysis modes. Dialysate temperature was set at 37°C for modes A and C and, 35°C for modes B and D. Sodium concentration was set at 138 mmol/L in modes A and B, while it changed from 150 mmol/L to 138 mmol/L in modes C and D. Using analysis of variance for repeated measures, the mean values of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were investigated. The mean values of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in modes C and D had a significant difference with the values in mode A. The mean values of systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients dialyzed with mode B had a significant difference with the values in those dialyzed with mode D. Moreover, there were significant differences in the incidence of hypotension between A and other modes and between B and modes C and D, but this difference was not significant between modes C and D. In order to reduce intradialytic blood pressure fluctuations and hypotension, the nursing staff are recommended to gradually reduce dialysate sodium concentration.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Having considered the physiologic challenges during pregnancy, scientists have searched for different delivery methods with minimal medical intervention. The use of water immersion by women for relaxing during labor is being used worldwide. We aimed to evaluate the controversies surrounding water birth and to find out the interest of Iranian women in this delivery method. METHODS: In a randomized clinical trial, 106 pregnant women were assigned to control and experimental groups. The experimental group underwent the labor and delivery in standardized warm water pools. The control group gave birth by conventional delivery method at the hospital. A questionnaire was completed during the labor for women in both control and experimental groups including the method of delivery; labor length; use of different drugs such as analgesics, opiates, antispasmodic, and oxytocin; use of episiotomy, and newborn's Apgar score and weight. RESULTS: Totally, 53 cases and 53 controls with the mean age of 26.4+/-5.9 and 27.1+/-5.9 years, respectively, completed the study. Women in the control group required oxytocin, antispasmodics, opiates, and analgesics more frequently than those in the experimental group (P<0.001). Meanwhile, the active phase and the third stage of labor were shorter experimental group by 72 and 1.3 minutes, respectively (P<0.004, and P<0.04). All the participants in the experimental group gave birth naturally, whereas only 79.2< of the controls had normal vaginal delivery. CONCLUSION: Our results revealed the advantage of water birth delivery. Those who gave water birth experienced less pain and completed the delivery sooner. Meanwhile, normal vaginal delivery was accomplished more frequently with this group. These all lead to a decreased necessity for medical interventions as well as an increased socioeconomic advantage for the society.
