RESUMEN

Introduction: Diced cartilage grafts are well-liked, dependable, and simple-to-use techniques for dorsum camouflage in rhinoplasty. Recent research results demonstrate how effectively PRF increases the survivability of diced cartilage in the nasal dorsum and decreases its absorption. In this study, we intend to investigate the effect of fibrin-rich platelets (PRF) on diced cartilage survival in rhinoplasty surgery. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial included people referred to Rasoul Akram Hospital for rhinoplasty between 2020 and 2021. Patients were divided into two groups: Diced Cartilage alone (DC) and Diced Cartilage + PRF (DC+PRF). Cartilage survival was assessed by ultrasound, photography, and nasal examination, and the two groups were compared six months after rhinoplasty. Patients' satisfaction with surgery was also evaluated using the Utrecht questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the two groups of 20 patients was 29.05 ± 7.02 and 26.65 ± 8.16 years in the DC and DC + PRF groups, respectively (P>0.05). After treatment, the frequency of irregularity on examination and dissatisfaction score was slightly but insignificantly higher in the DC group compared to the DC + PRF group (25% vs. 15% and 12.25 ± 6.45 vs. 10.45 ± 6.74, respectively, and P values>0.05). The total volume decrease, regardless of the injection site, was significant in both groups (P < 0.05), but the magnitude of volume reduction was significantly higher in the DC group compared to the DC + PRF group (-0.060 ± 0.087 vs. - 0.033±0.017, respectively, P<0.05). Conclusion: PRF may slow down the absorption process of diced cartilage.

RESUMEN

Background: The prevalence of Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) varies from 0.|3 to 5% in different countries. The prevalence of CAE has varied in different parts of the world and the study of risk factors can be effective in the process of diagnosis and treatment of patients, we reviewed patients who underwent coronary angiography for 5 years to determine the prevalence of isolated CAE and its associated risk factors. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 16600 patients who underwent coronary angiography at Shahid Sadoughi and Afshar hospitals between March 2015 to April 2020. Diagnosis and confirmation of CAE was defined as a vessel diameter greater than 1.5 times the normal diameter of the vessel, which must be confirmed by at least two cardiologists. Demographic variables, angiography and echocardiography reports were included in our final analysis. Results: Isolated CAE was diagnosed in 287 (1.7%) patients. After triple-vessel disease (53%), the left anterior descending artery (LAD) was the commonest affected vessel by ectasia 16% (46 cases). Diffuse isolated CAE was diagnosed in 52% of LAD, 76.6% of Right coronary artery (RCA), and 74.1% of left circumflex artery. A significant association was seen between the vessel involved and the nature of ectasia (p<0.001). Conclusion: In our study, the occurrence of isolated CAE was similar to other studies. This condition often affects all three major vessels of the coronary arteries, and is commonly categorized as type 1, which involves diffuse involvement of the arteries based on the Markis and Harikrishnan Classification.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is considered to be one of the most common cancers of the head and neck, accounting for roughly 90% of all malignant tumors of the larynx. To have a timely diagnosis for a better and practical therapy, molecular markers have to be investigated. The aim of this study was to determine the expression of Cyclin D1 (CD1) in patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. METHODS: In this study the demographic data of 82 patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma, including age, gender and geographical region history of smoking and drug abuse, paraclinical findings, surgical description, and pathologic reports were extracted from their medical records. The stage and grade of the disease and tumor location were determined using their medical records. An appropriate tissue sample was selected. Then, the selected cancerous tissue samples stored as formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue then were (Immunohistochemistry) IHC stained and analyzed in terms of the expression of CD1. RESULTS & CONCLUSION: According to the results, 75 out of 82 (91.5%) investigated samples were positive for CD1 expression. There was a significant relationship between stage of the disease (P=0.041) and CD1 expression in patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. There was no significant relationship between gender (P=0.055), age (P=0.256), history of smoking and drug abuse (P=0.192), location of the tumor (P=0.90), grade of the disease (P=0.515) and geographical region (P=0.466) and CD1 expression in patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. The results of the present study showed that CD1 expression was higher (91.5%) in patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma in comparison to the other studies. According to the results we can conclude that stage of the disease can significantly affect CD1 expression in patients with squamous cell carcinoma.

RESUMEN

Hypertension-induced left ventricular hypertrophy is the most important risk factor for heart failure. This study aimed at investigating the effects of monoterpenoid phenol, carvacrol, on myocardial hypertrophy using both in-vivo and in-vitro models. Male Wistar rats were divided into the control (Ctl), un-treated hypertrophy (H), and carvacrol-treated hypertrophy groups (25, 50 and 75 mg/kg/day, Car+H). In the hypertrophy groups animals underwent abdominal aorta banding. Blood pressure (BP) was recorded via carotid artery cannulation. TUNEL assay and Masson's trichrome staining were used to assess apoptosis and fibrosis, respectively. The 2-2-diphenyl 1-picril-hydrasil )DPPH( radical scavenging activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) level were estimated by biochemical tests. In in-vitro study H9c2 cardiomyoblasts were treated with angiotensin II (Ang II) to promote hypertrophy. Cell size was measured using crystal violet staining. Gene expression was evaluated by real-time RT-PCR technique. In the carvacrol-treated rats BP, heart rate, and heart weight to the body weight ratio were significantly decreased. In-vitro study showed that H9c2 cell size was significantly reduced compared to Ang II-treated cells. Both in-vivo and in-vitro studies demonstrated that carvacrol decreased atrial natriuretic peptide )ANP( mRNA level significantly (vs. H groups). The number of apoptotic cells increased in H group, while it was decreased in the Car50+H and Car75+H. In Car+H groups, in comparison with H group, the serum concentration of MDA was decreased and DPPH was increased significantly. Our findings demonstrated that carvacrol decreases hypertrophy markers in in-vivo and in-vitro models of hypertrophy.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Schwannoma (<i>neurilemmoma</i>) is a kind of a slow-growing, benign, and heterogeneous neoplasm originating from Schwann cells. Schwannoma has a predilection for the head, neck, and extremities. However, it can occur in the breast dermis, deep breast parenchyma, and axillary soft tissue. CASE REPORT: In this study, a 51-year-old woman is reported with a breast mass suspected of malignancy, who was diagnosed with schwannoma by a pathologist after surgery. In cases with palpable breast masses, Schwannoma should be considered as a part of differential diagnosis. In spite of various imaging modalities used in the diagnostics of breast lesions, excisional or core needle biopsy is suggested for the definitive diagnosis of schwannoma.
