RESUMEN

Transactional data from point-of-sales systems may not consider customer behavior before purchasing decisions are finalized. A smart shelf system would be able to provide additional data for retail analytics. In previous works, the conventional approach has involved customers standing directly in front of products on a shelf. Data from instances where customers deviated from this convention, referred to as "cross-location", were typically omitted. However, recognizing instances of cross-location is crucial when contextualizing multi-person and multi-product tracking for real-world scenarios. The monitoring of product association with customer keypoints through RANSAC modeling and particle filtering (PACK-RMPF) is a system that addresses cross-location, consisting of twelve load cell pairs for product tracking and a single camera for customer tracking. In this study, the time series vision data underwent further processing with R-CNN and StrongSORT. An NTP server enabled the synchronization of timestamps between the weight and vision subsystems. Multiple particle filtering predicted the trajectory of each customer's centroid and wrist keypoints relative to the location of each product. RANSAC modeling was implemented on the particles to associate a customer with each event. Comparing system-generated customer-product interaction history with the shopping lists given to each participant, the system had a general average recall rate of 76.33% and 79% for cross-location instances over five runs.

RESUMEN

Managing the inventory of blood is a crucial operation in hospitals owing to its significance in medical treatment. At the same time, blood is characterized by unique attributes, such as perishability and the unpredictable nature of its supply and demand. While models have been developed to optimize the said process, gaps in literature exist in terms of considering the possibility of variable pricing and extensively accounting for uncertainties in the supply chain. In this light, the present study proposes a stochastic multi-period mixed integer linear programming cost minimization model that determines the optimal inventory plan for a hospital purchasing platelets, assuming that prices fluctuate along with the blood center's supply. To implement uncertain supply and demand, the model considers a discrete set of scenarios for each parameter. A study was performed, and the results indicate a promising direction as inventory costs decreased relative to models without the new considerations.

RESUMEN

The increase in worldwide demand for energy is driven by the rapid increase in population and exponential economic development. This resulted in the fast depletion of fossil fuel supplies and unprecedented levels of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. To valorize biomass into different bioproducts, one of the popular and carbon-neutral alternatives is biorefineries. This system is an appropriate technology in the circular economy model. Various research highlighted the role of biorefineries as a centerpiece in the carbon-neutral ecosystem of technologies of the circular economy model. To fully realize this, various improvements and challenges need to be addressed. This paper presents a critical and timely review of the challenges and future direction of biorefineries as an alternative carbon-neutral energy source.

RESUMEN

Lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) is considered as a sustainable feedstock for a biorefinery to generate biofuels and other bio-chemicals. However, commercialization is one of the challenges that limits cost-effective operation of conventional LCB biorefinery. This article highlights some studies on the sustainability of LCB in terms of cost-competitiveness and environmental impact reduction. In addition, the development of computational intelligence methods such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a tool to aid the improvement of LCB biorefinery in terms of optimization, prediction, classification, and decision support systems. Lastly, this review examines the possible research gaps on the production and valorization in a smart sustainable biorefinery towards circular economy.

RESUMEN

Species selection is a crucial step in the planning phase of forestation programs given its impact on the results and on stakeholder interactions. This study develops a planning tool for forestation programs that incorporates the selection of tree species and the scheduling of planting and harvesting, while balancing the maximization of the carbon sequestered and income realized, into the forestation decision-making and planning process. The validation of the goal programming model formulated demonstrates that the characteristics of natural tree species along with the behavior of growth and timing of yield are significant factors in achieving the environmental and socio-economic aspirations. The proposed model is therefore useful in gauging species behavior and performance over time. Sensitivity analysis was also conducted where the behavior of the income generated and carbon sequestered with respect to the external factors such as carbon market prices, percentage area allocated for protection and discount factor was assessed.
