BACKGROUND: Tracheal intubation in ICU is associated with high incidence of difficult intubations. The study aimed to investigate whether the "universal" use of a hyperangulated videolaryngoscope would increase the frequency of "easy intubation" in ICU patients compared to direct laryngoscopy. METHODS: A prospective before-after study was conducted. The pre-interventional period (36 months) involved tracheal intubations using direct laryngoscopy as the first intubation option. In the interventional period (18 months) a hyperangulated videolaryngoscope was the first intubation option. The primary outcome was the percentage of patients with "easy intubation" defined as intubation on the first attempt and easy laryngoscopy (modified Cormack-Lehane glottic view of I-IIa). Secondary outcomes included difficult laryngoscopy, operator technical difficulty, and complications. RESULTS: We enrolled 407 patients, 273 in non-interventional period, and 134 in interventional period. Tracheal intubation in the interventional period was associated with higher incidence of "easy intubation" (92.5%) compared with the non-interventional period (75.8%); P < 0.001)). Glottic visualization improved in the interventional period, with a reduced incidence of difficult laryngoscopy (1.5% vs. 22.5%; P < 0.001). The proportion of first-success rate intubation was 92.5% in the interventional period, and 87.8% in the non-interventional period (P = 0.147). Moderate and severe technical difficulty of intubation reported decreased in the interventional period (6% vs. 17.6%; P < 0.001). There was no significant difference between both periods in the incidence of complications. CONCLUSION: "Universal" use of hyperangulated videolaryngoscopy for tracheal intubation in patients admitted in ICU improves the percentage of easy intubation compared to direct laryngoscopy.

Sjogren's disease (SjD) is an autoimmune disease that is characterized not only by the sicca symptoms it causes but also by its systemic nature, which is capable of several and not yet fully understood extraglandular manifestations. To gain a clearer understanding of these manifestations as well as a better practical approach, a panel of experts from the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the identification of epidemiologic and clinical features of the extraglandular manifestations present in ESSDAI (EULAR Sjogren´s syndrome disease activity index), followed by a voting panel with recommendations for clinical practice. This publication is complementary to others already published and covers cutaneous and hematological manifestations, with prevalence data generated by a meta-analysis of 13 clinical or laboratory manifestations and 6 clinical management recommendations.

Background: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent deficits in social communication, social interaction, and restricted behaviors. The importance of early intervention has been widely demonstrated, and developmental trajectories in ASD emphasize the importance of nonverbal communication, such as intransitive gesture production, as a possible positive prognostic factor for language development. The use of technological tools in the therapy of individuals with ASD has also become increasingly important due to their higher engagement and responsiveness to technological objects, such as robots. Materials and methods: We developed a training protocol using the humanoid robot NAO, called IOGIOCO (Interactive mirroring Games wIth sOCial rObot), based on the use of intransitive gestures embedded in naturalistic dialogues, stimulating a triadic interaction between child, robot and therapist. The training was divided into six levels; the first 2 levels were called "familiarization levels," and the other 4 were "training levels". The technological setup includes different complexity levels, from mirroring tasks to building spontaneous interactions. We tested the protocol on 10 preschool children with ASD (aged 2-6 years) for 14 weeks. We assessed them at recruitment (T0), at the end of training (T1), and after 6 months (T2). Results: We demonstrated the tolerability of the protocol. We found that one group (n=4, males and 2 females) reached the training level, while another and group (n=6 males) remained at a familiarization level (mirroring), we analyzed the results for the two groups. In the group that reached the training levels, we found promising results, such as an improvement in the Social Adaptive Domain of the ABAS-II questionnaire between T0 and T2. Conclusion: While current results will need a Randomized Controlled Trial to be confirmed, the present work sets an important milestone in using social robots for ASD treatment, aimed at impacting social and communication skills in everyday life.

Recentemente, a doença evoluiu da condição negligenciada para uma ameaça à saúde pública, impactando milhões de pessoas em regiões tropicais e subtropicais. Este estudo analisa a produção do conhecimento sobre a Chikungunya, na perspectiva da Vigilância em Saúde. Trata-se de metodologia exploratória-descritiva, com análise bibliométrica. Realizou-se a coleta nas bases Scopus e Web of Science para artigos de 2008 a 2022. A análise revelou uma série temporal de produção destacando a contribuição de Estados Unidos, Brasil e França. Identificaram-se como áreas mais produtivas: doenças transmissíveis, medicina tropical e parasitologia, fundamentais à Vigilância em Saúde e ao planejamento de políticas públicas. Quanto aos pesquisadores, Weaver, Scott C., Failloux, Anna-Bella e De Lamballerie, Xavier foram relevantes no cenário global, indicando a importância da colaboração e da abordagem interdisciplinar.


Chikungunya, an arbovirus that causes fever and debilitating arthralgia, has potential to be chronic and incapacitating for long periods, and there are no vaccines or therapies available for it. Recently, the disease has evolved from a neglected condition to public health threat, impacting millions in tropical and subtropical regions. This study analyzed the knowledge production about chikungunya, from the perspective of Health Surveillance, using an exploratory-descriptive methodology and bibliometric analysis. Articles from 2008 to 2022 were collected from Scopus and Web of Science databases. The analysis showed a production time series, highlighting the contribution of United States, Brazil, and France. The most productive areas were identified as: communicable diseases, tropical medicine and parasitology, which are fundamental to Health Surveillance and public policy planning. Regarding researchers, Weaver, Scott C., Failloux, Anna-Bella, and De Lamballerie, Xavier were relevant in the global scenario, indicating the importance of collaboration and of the interdisciplinary approach.

Este estudio analiza la producción de conocimientos sobre chikungunya, desde la perspectiva de la Vigilancia Sanitaria. Se utilizó una metodología exploratoria-descriptiva con análisis bibliométrico. Se recompilaron artículos de Scopus y Web of Science, 2008-2022. El análisis reveló una serie temporal de producción, destacando la contribución de EEUU, Brasil y Francia. Se identificaron como áreas más productivas: enfermedades transmisibles, medicina tropical y parasitología, fundamentales para la Vigilancia Sanitaria y la planificación de políticas públicas. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) show severe attention deficits, hindering their capacity to acquire new skills. The automatic assessment of their attention response would provide the therapists with an important biomarker to better quantify their behaviour and monitor their progress during therapy. This work aims to develop a quantitative model, to evaluate the attention response of children with ASD, during robotic-assistive therapeutic sessions. Previous attempts to quantify the attention response of autistic subjects during human-robot interaction tasks were limited to restrained child movements. Instead, we developed an accurate quantitative system to assess the attention of ASD children in unconstrained scenarios. Our approach combines gaze extraction (Gaze360 model) with the definition of angular Areas-of-Interest, to characterise periods of attention towards elements of interest in the therapy environment during the session. The methodology was tested with 12 ASD children, achieving a mean test accuracy of 79.5 %. Finally, the proposed attention index was consistent with the therapists' evaluation of patients, allowing a meaningful interpretation of the automatic evaluation. This encourages the future clinical use of the proposed system.

The prevalence of central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction as a result of disease or trauma remains a clinically unsolved problem which is raising increased awareness in our aging society. Human Dental Pulp Stem Cells (hDPSCs) are excellent candidates to be used in tissue engineering and regenerative therapies of the CNS due to their neural differentiation ability and lack of tumorigenicity. Accordingly, they have been successfully used in animal models of spinal cord injury, stroke and peripheral neuropathies. The ideal therapy in brain injury should combine strategies aiming to protect the damaged lesion and, at the same time, accelerate brain tissue regeneration, thus promoting fast recovery while minimizing side or long-term effects. The use of bioresorbable nanopatterned poly(lactide-co-ɛ-caprolactone) (PLCL) polymeric scaffolds as hDPCSs carriers can represent an advantage for tissue regeneration. In this chapter, we describe the surgical procedures to implant functionalized bioresorbable scaffolds loaded with hDPSCs to improve the brain lesion microenvironment in an intracranial stab wound injury model severing the rostral migratory stream (RMS) that connects the brain subventricular zone (SVZ) and the olfactory bulb in nude mice. Additionally, we also describe the technical steps after animal sacrifice for histological tissue observation and characterization.

Importance: Neurological manifestations during acute SARS-CoV-2-related multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) are common in hospitalized patients younger than 18 years and may increase risk of new neurocognitive or functional morbidity. Objective: To assess the association of severe neurological manifestations during a SARS-CoV-2-related hospital admission with new neurocognitive or functional morbidities at discharge. Design, Setting, and Participants: This prospective cohort study from 46 centers in 10 countries included patients younger than 18 years who were hospitalized for acute SARS-CoV-2 or MIS-C between January 2, 2020, and July 31, 2021. Exposure: Severe neurological manifestations, which included acute encephalopathy, seizures or status epilepticus, meningitis or encephalitis, sympathetic storming or dysautonomia, cardiac arrest, coma, delirium, and stroke. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was new neurocognitive (based on the Pediatric Cerebral Performance Category scale) and/or functional (based on the Functional Status Scale) morbidity at hospital discharge. Multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to examine the association of severe neurological manifestations with new morbidity in each SARS-CoV-2-related condition. Results: Overall, 3568 patients younger than 18 years (median age, 8 years [IQR, 1-14 years]; 54.3% male) were included in this study. Most (2980 [83.5%]) had acute SARS-CoV-2; the remainder (588 [16.5%]) had MIS-C. Among the patients with acute SARS-CoV-2, 536 (18.0%) had a severe neurological manifestation during hospitalization, as did 146 patients with MIS-C (24.8%). Among survivors with acute SARS-CoV-2, those with severe neurological manifestations were more likely to have new neurocognitive or functional morbidity at hospital discharge compared with those without severe neurological manifestations (27.7% [n = 142] vs 14.6% [n = 356]; P < .001). For survivors with MIS-C, 28.0% (n = 39) with severe neurological manifestations had new neurocognitive and/or functional morbidity at hospital discharge compared with 15.5% (n = 68) of those without severe neurological manifestations (P = .002). When adjusting for risk factors in those with severe neurological manifestations, both patients with acute SARS-CoV-2 (odds ratio, 1.85 [95% CI, 1.27-2.70]; P = .001) and those with MIS-C (odds ratio, 2.18 [95% CI, 1.22-3.89]; P = .009) had higher odds of having new neurocognitive and/or functional morbidity at hospital discharge. Conclusions and Relevance: The results of this study suggest that children and adolescents with acute SARS-CoV-2 or MIS-C and severe neurological manifestations may be at high risk for long-term impairment and may benefit from screening and early intervention to assist recovery.

BACKGROUND: Recent meta-analyses and randomized studies have shown that among patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing endovascular thrombectomy, general anesthesia with mechanical ventilation is associated with better functional status compared to local anesthesia and sedation, and they recommend its use. But once the procedure is completed, when is the optimal moment for extubation? Currently, there are no guidelines recommending the optimal moment for extubation. Prolonged mechanical ventilation time could potentially be linked to increased complications such as pneumonia or disturbances in cerebral blood flow due to the vasodilatation produced by most anesthetic drugs. However, premature extubation in a patient who has suffered a stroke could led to complications such as agitation, disorientation, abolished reflexes, sudden fluctuations in blood pressure, alterations in cerebral blood flow, respiratory distress, bronchial aspiration, and the need for reintubation. We therefore designed a randomized study hypothesizing that early compared with delayed extubation is associated with a better functional outcome 3 months after endovascular thrombectomy treatment under general anesthesia for acute ischemic stroke. METHODS: This investigator-initiated, single-center, prospective, parallel, evaluated blinded, superiority, randomized controlled trial will include 178 patients with a proximal occlusion of the anterior circulation treated with successful endovascular thrombectomy (TICI 2b-3) under general anesthesia. Patients will be randomly allocated to receive early (< 6 h) or delayed (6-12 h) extubation after the procedure. The primary outcome measure is functional independence (mRS of 0-2) at 90 days, measured with the modified Rankin Score (mRS), ranging from 0 (no symptoms) to 6 (death). DISCUSSION: This will be the first trial to compare the effect of mechanical ventilation duration (early vs delayed extubation) after satisfactory endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke under general anesthesia. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study protocol was approved April 11, 2023, by the by the Santiago-Lugo Research Ethics Committee (CEI-SL), number 2023/127, and was registered into the clinicaltrials.gov clinical trials registry with No. NCT05847309. Informed consent is required. Participant recruitment begins on April 18, 2023. The results will be submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal and presented at one or more scientific conferences.

BACKGROUND: Current methods to predict height potential are inaccurate. Predicting height by using MRI of the physeal cartilage has shown promise but the applicability of this technique in different imaging setups has not been well-evaluated. PURPOSE: To assess variability in diffusion tensor imaging of the physis and metaphysis (DTI-P/M) of the distal femur between different scanners, imaging parameters, tractography software, and resolution. STUDY TYPE: Prospective. POPULATION/SUBJECTS: Eleven healthy subjects (five males and six females ages 10-16.94). FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 3 T; DTI single shot echo planar sequences. ASSESSMENT: Physeal DTI tract measurements of the distal femur were compared between different scanners, imaging parameters, tractography settings, interpolation correction, and tractography software. STATISTICAL TESTS: Bland-Altman, Spearman correlation, linear regression, and Shapiro-Wilk tests. Threshold for statistical significance was set at P = 0.05. RESULTS: DTI tract values consistently showed low variability with different imaging and analysis settings. Vendor to vendor comparison exhibited strong correlation (ρ = 0.93) and small but significant bias (bias -5.76, limits of agreement [LOA] -24.31 to 12.78). Strong correlation and no significant difference were seen between technical replicates of the General Electric MRI scanner (ρ = 1, bias 0.17 [LOA -1.5 to 1.2], P = 0.42) and the Siemens MRI scanner (ρ = 0.89, bias = 0.56, P = 0.71). Different voxel sizes (1 × 1 × 2 mm3 vs. 2 × 2 × 3 mm3) did not significantly affect DTI values (bias = 1.4 [LOA -5.7 to 8.4], P = 0.35) but maintained a strong correlation (ρ = 0.82). Gap size (0 mm vs. 0.6 mm) significantly affects tract volume (bias = 1.8 [LOA -5.4 to 1.8]) but maintains a strong correlation (ρ = 0.93). Comparison of tractography algorithms generated significant differences in tract number, length, and volume while maintaining correlation (ρ = 0.86, 0.99, 0.93, respectively). Comparison of interobserver variability between different tractography software also revealed significant differences while maintaining high correlation (ρ = 0.85-0.98). DATA CONCLUSION: DTI of the pediatric physis cartilage shows high reproducibility between different imaging and analytic parameters. EVIDENCE LEVEL: 2 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 1.

Introduction: The demipointe dance position puts the ankle at high risk of overuse injury and posteromedial ankle pain due to increased ankle valgus forces. Previous work has shown that creating lower limb external rotation intrinsic to demipointe with hip external rotation reduces foot pronation that causes ankle valgus stress. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to examine long axis rotation kinematics of the hip, knee, and ankle as well as the ankle joint contact forces in demipointe to better understand the biomechanical impact(s) of the specific cue to increase hip external rotation in this position. Methods: Three-dimensional motion capture and force plate data were collected from 23 contemporary or ballet pre-professional dancers (age: 19.94 ± 1.34 years) who each performed 3 dancer-selected (DS) demipointe positions and 3 demipointes with the cue to "externally rotate from the hips." Results: The cue to increase hip external rotation resulted in significantly increased hip external rotation angle [DS: 37.5; 9.42° (median; interquartile range), Cued: 39.9; 10.8°, P < .0001)] and significantly reduced ankle eversion angle (DS: 8.13; 11.4°, Cued: 7.77; 10.3°, P = .023). However, total turnout angle was also significantly decreased (DS: 75.8; 7.91°, Cued: 75.4; 7.73°, P < .0001), which is undesirable for proper esthetic performance of demipointe. Total ankle joint force remained unchanged, but ankle eversion force was significantly reduced (DS: 15.3; 4.18 %bodyweight (BW), Cued: 14.7; 4.99 %BW, P < .0001) with use of the cue. Discussion/Conclusion: Utilization of a cue to increase hip external rotation was successful in increasing hip contribution to turnout angle and reducing injurious ankle eversion force. Further coaching using this cue may allow dancers to produce these advantageous mechanics while maintaining turnout angle.

Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae is known for its increased extracellular polysaccharide production. Biofilm matrices of hypervirulent K. pneumoniae have increased polysaccharide abundance and are uniquely susceptible to disruption by peptide bactenecin 7 (bac7 (1-35)). Here, using confocal microscopy, we show that polysaccharides within the biofilm matrix collapse following bac7 (1-35) treatment. This collapse led to the release of cells from the biofilm, which were then killed by the peptide. Characterization of truncated peptide analogs revealed that their interactions with polysaccharide were responsible for the biofilm matrix changes that accompany bac7 (1-35) treatment. Ultraviolet photodissociation mass spectrometry with the parental peptide or a truncated analog bac7 (10-35) reveal the important regions for bac7 (1-35) complexing with polysaccharides. Finally, we tested bac7 (1-35) using a murine skin abscess model and observed a significant decrease in the bacterial burden. These findings unveil the potential of bac7 (1-35) polysaccharide interactions to collapse K. pneumoniae biofilms.

"How tall will I be?" Every paediatrician has been asked this during their career. The growth plate is the main site of longitudinal growth of the long bones. The chondrocytes in the growth plate have a columnar pattern detectable by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). DTI shows the diffusion of water in a tissue and whether it is iso- or anisotropic. By detecting direction and magnitude of diffusion, DTI gives information about the microstructure of the tissue. DTI metrics include tract volume, length, and number, fractional anisotropy (FA), and mean diffusivity. DTI metrics, particularly tract volume, provide quantitative data regarding skeletal growth and, in conjunction with the fractional anisotropy, be used to determine whether a growth plate is normal. Tractography is a visual display of the diffusion, depicting its direction and amplitude. Tractography gives a more qualitative visualization of cellular orientation in a tissue and reflects the activity in the growth plate. These two components of DTI can be used to assess the growth plate without ionizing radiation or pain. Further refinements in DTI will improve prediction of post-imaging growth and growth plate closure, and assessment of the positive and negative effect of treatments like cis-retinoic acid and growth hormone administration.

Background Commonly used pediatric lower extremity growth standards are based on small, dated data sets. Artificial intelligence (AI) enables creation of updated growth standards. Purpose To train an AI model using standing slot-scanning radiographs in a racially diverse data set of pediatric patients to measure lower extremity length and to compare expected growth curves derived using AI measurements to those of the conventional Anderson-Green method. Materials and Methods This retrospective study included pediatric patients aged 0-21 years who underwent at least two slot-scanning radiographs in routine clinical care between August 2015 and February 2022. A Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network was trained to segment the femur and tibia on radiographs and measure total leg, femoral, and tibial length; accuracy was assessed with mean absolute error. AI measurements were used to create quantile polynomial regression femoral and tibial growth curves, which were compared with the growth curves of the Anderson-Green method for coverage based on the central 90% of the estimated growth distribution. Results In total, 1874 examinations in 523 patients (mean age, 12.7 years ± 2.8 [SD]; 349 female patients) were included; 40% of patients self-identified as White and not Hispanic or Latino, and the remaining 60% self-identified as belonging to a different racial or ethnic group. The AI measurement training, validation, and internal test sets included 114, 25, and 64 examinations, respectively. The mean absolute errors of AI measurements of the femur, tibia, and lower extremity in the test data set were 0.25, 0.27, and 0.33 cm, respectively. All 1874 examinations were used to generate growth curves. AI growth curves more accurately represented lower extremity growth in an external test set (n = 154 examinations) than the Anderson-Green method (90% coverage probability: 86.7% [95% CI: 82.9, 90.5] for AI model vs 73.4% [95% CI: 68.4, 78.3] for Anderson-Green method; χ2 test, P < .001). Conclusion Lower extremity growth curves derived from AI measurements on standing slot-scanning radiographs from a diverse pediatric data set enabled more accurate prediction of pediatric growth. © RSNA, 2024 Supplemental material is available for this article.

To assess the impact of a deep learning (DL) denoising reconstruction algorithm applied to identical patient scans acquired with two different voxel dimensions, representing distinct spatial resolutions, this IRB-approved prospective study was conducted at a tertiary pediatric center in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. A General Electric Signa Premier unit (GE Medical Systems, Milwaukee, WI) was employed to acquire two DTI (diffusion tensor imaging) sequences of the left knee on each child at 3T: an in-plane 2.0 × 2.0 mm2 with section thickness of 3.0 mm and a 2 mm3 isovolumetric voxel; neither had an intersection gap. For image acquisition, a multi-band DTI with a fat-suppressed single-shot spin-echo echo-planar sequence (20 non-collinear directions; b-values of 0 and 600 s/mm2) was utilized. The MR vendor-provided a commercially available DL model which was applied with 75% noise reduction settings to the same subject DTI sequences at different spatial resolutions. We compared DTI tract metrics from both DL-reconstructed scans and non-denoised scans for the femur and tibia at each spatial resolution. Differences were evaluated using Wilcoxon-signed ranked test and Bland-Altman plots. When comparing DL versus non-denoised diffusion metrics in femur and tibia using the 2 mm × 2 mm × 3 mm voxel dimension, there were no significant differences between tract count (p = 0.1, p = 0.14) tract volume (p = 0.1, p = 0.29) or tibial tract length (p = 0.16); femur tract length exhibited a significant difference (p < 0.01). All diffusion metrics (tract count, volume, length, and fractional anisotropy (FA)) derived from the DL-reconstructed scans, were significantly different from the non-denoised scan DTI metrics in both the femur and tibial physes using the 2 mm3 voxel size (p < 0.001). DL reconstruction resulted in a significant decrease in femorotibial FA for both voxel dimensions (p < 0.01). Leveraging denoising algorithms could address the drawbacks of lower signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) associated with smaller voxel volumes and capitalize on their better spatial resolutions, allowing for more accurate quantification of diffusion metrics.

In this work, we compared the biochemical and toxicological profiles of venoms from an adult female specimen of Lachesis muta rhombeata (South American bushmaster) and her seven offspring born in captivity, based on SDS-PAGE, RP-HPLC, enzymatic, coagulant, and hemorrhagic assays. Although adult and juvenile venoms showed comparable SDS-PAGE profiles, juveniles lacked some chromatographic peaks compared with adult venom. Adult venom had higher proteolytic (caseinolytic) activity than juvenile venoms (p < 0.05), but there were no significant inter-venom variations in the esterase, PLA2, phosphodiesterase and L-amino acid oxidase (LAAO) activities, although the latter activity was highly variable among the venoms. Juveniles displayed higher coagulant activity on human plasma, with a minimum coagulant dose ∼42% lower than the adult venom (p < 0.05), but there were no age-related differences in thrombin-like activity. Adult venom was more fibrinogenolytic (based on the rate of fibrinogen chain degradation) and hemorrhagic than juvenile venoms (p < 0.05). The effective dose of Bothrops/Lachesis antivenom (produced by the Instituto Butantan) needed to neutralize the coagulant activity was ∼57% greater for juvenile venoms (p < 0.05), whereas antivenom did not attenuate the thrombin-like activity of juvenile and adult venoms. Antivenom significantly reduced the hemorrhagic activity of adult venom (400 µg/kg, i. d.), but not that of juvenile venoms. Overall, these data indicate a compositional and functional ontogenetic shift in L. m. rhombeata venom.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis (TB), caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), remains a global health threat, necessitating faster and more accessible diagnostic methods. This study investigates critical parameters in the application of a commercial ATP bioluminescence assay for the detection of MTB. METHOD: Our objective was to optimize the ATP bioluminescence protocol using BacTiter-Glo™ for MTB, investigating the impact of varying volumes of MTB suspension and reagent on assay sensitivity, evaluating ATP extraction methods, establishing calibration curves, and elucidating strain-specific responses to antimicrobial agents. RESULTS: ATP extraction methods showed no significant improvement over controls. Calibration curves revealed a linear correlation between relative light units (RLU) and colony-forming units (CFU/mL), establishing low detection limits. Antimicrobial testing demonstrated strain-specific responses aligning with susceptibility and resistance patterns. CONCLUSION: Our findings contribute to refining ATP bioluminescence protocols for enhanced MTB detection and susceptibility testing. Further refinements and validation efforts are warranted, holding promise for more efficient diagnostic platforms in the future.

The aim of the present paper is to propose a new methodology for the production and installation of green artificial reefs (GARs) in shallow waters, with special attention to the transport stages. The process includes both onshore (manufacturing, road transport and unload at port) and offshore (load at port, sea transport, positioning, and deployment tasks) stages. Two different types of truck were analysed for the road transport. Furthermore, three different options were considered for sea transport: a workboat powered by liquefied natural gas, a barge using diesel (0.1% sulphur) as fuel, and an electric specific design barge. A simulation tool called AGARDO (Automatic Green Artificial Reef Deploy Optimisation) was developed for such a purpose. An estuary located in Galicia (North-West of Spain), where 180 GAR units must be installed, has been considered as case study. AGARDO was used to obtain results concerning process total time, equivalent CO2 emissions and costs for different scenarios. Consequently, the use of the proposed methodology allows the decision-maker to select the best option in terms of costs, emissions and time. AGARDO can be easily adapted to other case studies, with different onshore and offshore options.

Diffusion tensor imaging of physis and metaphysis can be used as a biomarker to predict height change in the pediatric population. Current application of this technique requires manual segmentation of the physis which is time-consuming and introduces interobserver variability. UNET Transformers (UNETR) can be used for automatic segmentation to optimize workflow. Three hundred and eighty-five DTI scans from 191 subjects with mean age of 12.6 years ± 2.01 years were retrospectively used for training and validation. The mean Dice correlation coefficient was 0.81 for the UNETR model and 0.68 for the UNET. Manual extraction and segmentation took 15 min per volume, whereas both deep learning segmentation techniques took < 1 s per volume and were deterministic, always producing the same result for a given input. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for ROI-derived femur diffusion metrics was excellent for tract count (0.95), volume (0.95), and FA (0.97), and good for tract length (0.87). The results support the hypothesis that a hybrid UNETR model can be trained to replace the manual segmentation of physeal DTI images, therefore automating the process.
