INTRODUCTION: There is a complex interrelationship between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) potentially promoting the occurrence and modulating severity of each other reciprocally. Presence of Barrett's esophagus (BE) is a defining factor for the diagnosis of GERD. While several studies investigated the potential impact of concomitant GERD on the presentation and course of EoE, little was known with regards to BE in EoE patients. METHODS: We analyzed prospectively collected clinical, endoscopic, and histological data from patients enrolled in the Swiss Eosinophilic Esophagitis Cohort Study (SEECS) regarding differences between EoE patients with (EoE/BE+) versus without BE (EoE/BE-) and determined the prevalence of BE in EoE patients. RESULTS: Among a total of 509 EoE patients included in our analysis, 24 (4.7%) had concomitant BE with a high male preponderance (EoE/BE+ 83.3% vs. EoE/BE- 74.4%). While there were no differences in dysphagia, odynophagia was significantly (12.5 vs. 3.1%, p = 0.047) more common in EoE/BE+ versus EoE/BE-. General well-being at last follow-up was significantly lower in EoE/BE+. Endoscopically, we observed an increased incidence of fixed rings in the proximal esophagus in EoE/BE+ (70.8 vs. 46.3% in EoE/BE-, p = 0.019) and a higher fraction of patients with a severe fibrosis in the proximal histological specimen (8.7 vs. 1.6% in EoE/BE, p = 0.017). CONCLUSION: Our study reveals that BE is twice as frequent in EoE patients compared to general population. Despite many similarities between EoE patients with and without BE, the finding of a more pronounced remodeling in EoE patients with Barrett is noteworthy.

Introduction: The Physical activity is present in the people's daily lives; however, this habit isn't regular in disabled people. Objectives: The aim of this study wasto verify the level of regular physical activity of adults with visual impairmentand its association with health-related anthropometric measures (AntMea). Methods: 43 subjects (21 M and 22 W, 38.81 ± 11.22 years) had 17 anthropometricmeasures taken, using ISAK standardization, and calculated. The level of physicalactivity was determined using the IPAQ short version. Results: Only a fewAntMea (WHR, C INDEX and % FAT) had an association with the level of physical activity in women (p = 0.031, p = 0.06 and p = 0.039, respectively). Conclusion:There was little association between AntMea and visual impairment. However, this can be explained in part by other factors that influence the anthropometricmeasurements, such as imbalance between caloric intake and expenditure, and these data were not collected.

An efficient synthetic approach leading to introduction of the hydroxymethyl group to an aryl moiety via combination of the Bouveault formylation and hydride reduction has been optimized using a rational, mechanistic-based approach. This approach enabled telescoping of the two steps into a single efficient process, readily amenable to scaleup.

The contribution of goalball orientation and mobility from the perspective of the athletes was positive, which is extremely important for motor development and also for the rehabilitation of the person with visual impairments, because it develops motor sensory perceptions such as hearing and touching, as well asimproves the concept space and increase levels of concentration.
