RESUMEN

In recent years, silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) have been used as positive electrode material for zinc/silver batteries, and the silver oxides formed during the charging process determine the discharge performance of batteries. Therefore, it is important to study the oxidation behavior of Ag NPs in alkaline solution. Single-nanoparticle collision is an important tool for analyzing oxidation behavior of individual nanoparticles. Based on thermodynamic information from collision events, it is known that oxidation products are potential-dependent and size-dependent. Based on dynamic information, including collisional peak shapes and duration time, it was observed that the Ag NP collision oxidation process changed from stepwise oxidation to direct oxidation as the potential increased or size decreased. This work provides guidance for application of Ag NPs in zinc/silver batteries and proposed a strategy for oxidation behavior of individual NP that could be tracked in situ through an all-encompassing view of thermodynamic and dynamic information.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore how obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects the function of each vestibular organ and to identify the correlations among them. METHODS: A prospective study was conducted involving 32 healthy controls and 64 patients with OSA. The objective detection methods of the utricle and saccule are vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs). A combination of the caloric test and video head impulse test (vHIT) was used to comprehensively evaluate the objective function of semicircular canals. RESULTS: Elevated thresholds (p < 0.001), decreased waveform amplitudes (p < 0.001), prolonged first wave latencies (p < 0.001), and shortened first interpeak latencies (p < 0.001) were observed in both ocular VEMP (oVEMP) and cervical VEMP (cVEMP). A significant difference was found in the caloric test comparison (χ2 = 4.030, p = 0.045) but not in the vHIT. The intergroup comparison of normal rates among the VEMPs, caloric test, and vHIT groups showed a significant difference (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The impairment of vestibular function in patients with OSA was uneven and biased. More attention should be given to vestibular dysfunction in the diagnosis and treatment of OSA.

Objective: Acute pharyngitis is common worldwide. Meteorological changes contribute to respiratory infections. This study aims to explore the correlation between acute pharyngitis and meteorological parameters. Methods: We collected the monthly acute pharyngitis cases in our hospital and the meteorological data, including temperature, relative humidity, and air quality index (AQI) of Shanghai, China, from January, 2015, to December, 2017. Pearson correlation and multivariable regression analysis were used to explore the association between meteorological parameters and the monthly hospital visits. Results: A total of 8287 patients were included in this study, and the monthly number of hospital visits was 230.2 ± 39.0. The best air quality index was 46.4 and the worst was 113.2. Temperature ranged from 5.2°C to 32.0°C, and relative humidity ranged from 59.4% to 83.1%. The monthly hospital visits of acute pharyngitis were negatively correlated with temperature (r = -.558, 95% CI -.746, -.274) and relative humidity (r = -.480, 95% CI -.695, -.137). A decrease of 1°C could cause an increase in hospital visits by 1.9. No significant correlation was found were found between acute pharyngitis cases and AQI (P = .051, 95% CI -.005, .590). Multivariable linear regression analysis showed the temperature was the independent risk factor of acute pharyngitis (coefficient = -1.906, P = .022). Conclusion: Low temperature might cause an increased incidence of acute pharyngitis.
