BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia is characterized by reduced skeletal muscle volume and is a condition that is prevalent among elderly patients and associated with poor prognosis as a comorbidity in malignancies. Given the aging population over 80 years old in Japan, an understanding of malignancies, including colorectal cancer (CRC), complicated by sarcopenia is increasingly important. Therefore, the focus of this study is on a novel and practical diagnostic approach of assessment of psoas major muscle volume (PV) using 3-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) in diagnosis of sarcopenia in patients with CRC. METHODS: The subjects were 150 patients aged ≥ 80 years with CRC who underwent primary tumor resection at Juntendo University Hospital between 2004 and 2017. 3D-CT measurement of PV and conventional CT measurement of the psoas major muscle cross-sectional area (PA) were used to identify sarcopenia (group S) and non-sarcopenia (group nS) cases. Clinicopathological characteristics, operative results, postoperative complications, and prognosis were compared between these groups. RESULTS: The S:nS ratios were 15:135 for the PV method and 52:98 for the PA method. There was a strong positive correlation (r = 0.66, p < 0.01) between PVI (psoas major muscle volume index) and PAI (psoas major muscle cross-sectional area index), which were calculated by dividing PV or PA by the square of height. Surgical results and postoperative complications did not differ significantly in the S and nS groups defined using each method. Overall survival was worse in group S compared to group nS identified by PV (p < 0.01), but not significantly different in groups S and nS identified by PA (p = 0.77). A Cox proportional hazards model for OS identified group S by PV as an independent predictor of a poor prognosis (p < 0.05), whereas group S by PA was not a predictor of prognosis (p = 0.60). CONCLUSIONS: The PV method for identifying sarcopenia in elderly patients with CRC is more practical and sensitive for prediction of a poor prognosis compared to the conventional method.

This study presents the application of an authentic Japanese bodywork approach Dohsa-hou to adults with intellectual disabilities who live in a care facility. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, such people remained disconnected from their families and friends, for which reason many of them experience anxiety, stress and inability to enjoy leisure activities. Given the lockdown circumstances, we decided to use for the first time in the field telepractice to provide Dohsa-hou. The results showed that participants experienced a gradual positive mood change and also expressed a desire to continue the sessions. Considering this, although further research is still needed, we assume that telepractice Dohsa-hou might be a viable substitute for the face-to-face sessions.

It is essential for airlines to have a deep understanding of the cognitive impact of aging among pilots. The current literature on executive function indicates that compensatory mechanisms in the brain may counteract age-related cognitive decline, at least up to certain task load levels. However, few studies have been administered to evaluate changes in aircrew competence as they age. The present study focuses on dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) activity as it is implicated in cognitive performance and working memory, which are associated with skill proficiency. We measured the DLPFC activity for airline pilots, including trainees, during maneuvering using a flight simulator. Our preliminary results indicated that only expert (aged) pilots demonstrated higher activity of the left DLPFC than the right one. However, for youth trainees, not only was the error rate high while using the flight simulator, but the activity of the DLFPC was also lower than that of the expert pilots, and there was no statistically significant difference between the left and right DLPFC. Although these findings partially differ from those reported in previous studies on age-related changes, it is evident that training as an airline pilot for over 20 years may affect such results. We believe that this noninvasive approach to objective quantification of skill will facilitate the development of effective assessment competence in aging.

Purpose: Excessive mechanical stress accumulates and causes knee injury. Meniscal extrusion is a key factor in detecting the reaction to cumulative mechanical stress. The accumulation of stress strongly depends on environmental conditions such as flat ground or uphill/downhill, and accumulates in knee compartments; only a few studies have reported the effects of different environments on lateral and medial meniscus extrusion. This study aimed to investigate the effects of cumulative uphill/downhill stress on the meniscal extrusion in each compartment. Methods: A total of 30 healthy volunteers with 30 affected knees were involved in this cohort study (mean age, 22.0 ± 1.1 years; men, n = 14). The participants were divided into flat-walking, uphill/downhill-walking, and uphill/downhill-jogging groups and their numbers of steps taken were recorded during the effort. Moreover, medial and lateral meniscal extrusions during walking were evaluated using ultrasound three times, before and after efforts (T1) and (T2), and one day after efforts (T3), respectively. Results: In the flat-walking group, no significant differences were observed between the follow-up periods. Conversely, in the uphill/downhill-walking and jogging groups, the medial meniscus extrusion at T2 was significantly higher than that at T1. Conversely, the medial meniscus extrusion at T3 was significantly lower than that at T2. By contrast, the lateral meniscus did not show any difference between the follow-up periods in any group. Conclusion: Temporary extrusion of the meniscus occurred after uphill/downhill tasks in healthy volunteers, and its reaction was observed only in the medial meniscus.

Lateral wedge insole (LWI) wear is a well-known conservative treatment for patients with knee osteoarthritis and is expected to decrease knee joint loading. Although the effect of LWI length on knee adduction moment (KAM) has been investigated, the biomechanical mechanism has not been fully investigated. Twelve healthy young subjects walked in the laboratory with and without 2 different lengths of LWIs. Three-dimensional motion analysis was performed to calculate the first and second peaks and impulses of the KAM during the stance phase. In addition, the knee-ground reaction force lever arm (KLA) and center of pressure (COP), ankle eversion moment, and ankle eversion angle were calculated. The first peak of KAM was lower, COP was displaced outward, and KLA was shorter with both LWIs attached. On the other hand, the second peak of KAM was lower with longer LWIs, COP was displaced outward, and KLA was shorter. The KAM impulse was significantly smaller in the condition with longer LWI than in the other conditions with smaller ankle eversion motion; longer LWI induced COP to the lateral side through the stance phase and kept KLA short, thus reducing the KAM impulse.

Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4RD) is a relatively new disease concept that is most common in Asia. It is a systemic chronic lymphoproliferative disease that is diagnosed by mass formation or thickened lesion, a high serum IgG4 level (≥135 mg/dL), and confirmation of lymphocytes and plasma cells by histopathological examination. The precise mechanism of this disease remains elusive; however, distinguishing IgG4RD from malignancy proves challenging due to its manifestation of swollen lymph nodes and retroperitoneal thickening and fibrosis. Malignancy is also 3.5 times more likely in cases with IgG4RD. In this study, we report two cases of colorectal cancer in patients with IgG4RD who underwent surgery. In both cases, excising the tumor from the retroperitoneal posed a challenge, and swollen lymph nodes were observed without evidence of cancer metastasis. We believe that these are very informative cases, and we report the cases with a literature review of IgG4RD.

BACKGROUND: In patients with medial knee osteoarthritis (OA), medial meniscus extrusion during gait is aggravated by mechanical stress, such as knee adduction moment (KAM). Conversely, the decrease in the range of knee rotation during stance phase is also one of the important issues in early knee OA, whereas the correlation between medial meniscus extrusion and knee rotation during gait are unclear. RESEARCH QUESTION: To investigate the correlation between increase in medial meniscus extrusion and range of knee rotation during gait in patients with early- and late-stage of knee OA. METHODS: Forty patients with medial knee OA were enrolled and divided into early- and late-OA group by Kellgren-Lawrence grading scale. During gait tasks, the extent of medial meniscus extrusion was measured using ultrasonography and kinetic/kinematic data were measured using three-dimensional motion analysis system. The correlation between medial meniscus extrusion and the range of knee rotation or KAM were evaluated in the overall, early-, and late- OA groups. RESULTS: A significant negative correlation was observed between an increase in medial meniscus extrusion and range of knee rotation angle in early-OA group only. However, an increase in medial meniscus extrusion significantly correlated with the second KAM peak in the overall and early-OA groups. SIGNIFICANCE: The decrease in range of knee rotation during stance phase may be associated with the increase in medial meniscus extrusion during gait in patients with early knee OA.

OBJECTIVES: Wallenberg's syndrome (WS) is caused by a stroke in the lateral medulla and can present with various symptoms. One of the main symptoms is vertigo, which can be misdiagnosed as noncentral vertigo (NCV). Approximately 90% of the patients with acute WS have a lateral difference in body surface temperature (BST) due to autonomic pathway disturbances from infarction. Additionally, thermography can aid in WS diagnosis; however, whether BST differences occur in patients with acute NCV is unclear. METHODS: This study used thermography to measure the BST of patients with NCV and acute WS to determine the effectiveness of BST to differentiate between the conditions. Forty-eight consecutive patients diagnosed with NCV whose BST was measured using thermography during a hospital visit or admission were enrolled. The left and right BST of four sites (face, trunk, and upper and lower limbs) were measured and compared with obtained BST of nine patients with WS. RESULTS: Twenty-two patients had lateral differences in BST ≥ 0.5°C, three with ≥1.5°C, and none with ≥2.5°C. Only one patient with NCV had lateral differences in BST at two or more ipsilateral sites. When WS differentiated from NCV, a left-right difference ≥0.5°C in two or more ipsilateral sites had a sensitivity of 89% and specificity of 98%, and ≥1.0°C had a sensitivity of 78% and specificity of 98%. DISCUSSION: Acute WS can be differentiated from NCV through BST and the number of sites with lateral differences via thermography, even in rooms where conditions are unregulated.

BACKGROUND: Medial meniscus extrusion (MME) is associated with knee osteoarthritis (OA) progression because of increased loading stress in the medial compartment of the knee. Using a lateral wedge insole (LWI) decreases loading stress and immediately reduces MME. OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether the wearing duration of LWI affects the midterm response to MME and is associated with knee OA progression. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study. METHODS: Twenty-three patients with knee OA who were conservatively treated with LWI were classified according to the duration of the LWI wear per day: less than 5 h (short-duration group) or over 5 h (long-duration group). MME was evaluated in the single-leg standing position by ultrasound. Knee OA progression and limb alignment were evaluated radiographically. These evaluations were performed thrice: at the initial office visit as a baseline without LWI (time 0), with LWI (LWI-time 0), and 1 year after intervention with LWI (LWI-1 year). RESULTS: In both groups, the MMEs at LWI time 0 were significantly decreased compared with those at time 0. In the long-duration group, this reduction in MME was maintained 1 year after the intervention compared with time 0 (time 0: 3.9 ± 0.9, LWI-1 year: 2.6 ± 1.1), but this improvement was not observed in the short-duration group (time 0: 3.8 ± 1.7, LWI-1 year: 3.6 ± 1.7). In addition, three of four patients demonstrated OA progression, and varus alignment had significantly progressed compared with that at time 0 in the short-duration group. However, the long-duration group showed OA progression only in one patient and maintained limb alignment. CONCLUSIONS: The duration of wearing LWI affects the midterm reduction of MME and knee OA progression while maintaining limb alignment.

OBJECTIVE: Axitinib is an oral multi-target tyrosine kinase inhibitor used for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Because of the severe adverse events (AEs) associated with axitinib, patients often need dose reductions or discontinue its use, highlighting the need for effective biomarkers to assess efficacy and/or AEs. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes involved in the pharmacodynamic action of axitinib and clinical prognosis and AEs in metastatic RCC (mRCC) patients. METHODS: This study included 80 mRCC patients treated with first-, second-, or third-line axitinib (5 mg orally twice daily). Clinical parameters and genetic polymorphisms were examined in 75 cases (53 males and 22 females). We assessed three SNPs in each of three candidate genes namely, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS3), and angiotensin II receptor type 1 (AT1R), all of which are involved in axitinib effects on vascular endothelial function. RESULTS: Axitinib-treated patients carrying the ACE deletion allele suffered more frequently from hand-foot syndrome and a deterioration in kidney function (p = .045 and p = 0.005, respectively) whereas those carrying the NOS3 G allele suffered more frequently from proteinuria and multiple AEs (p = .025 and p = 0.036, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Our study found that the ACE deletion allele and the NOS3 G allele are associated with increased AEs.

BACKGROUND: Major disruptions and changes in education have occurred worldwide as a result of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and the ensuing shift from in-person to online education. However, the effect of such changes on medical education, its magnitude, and the learning domains impacted by such rapid changes have not been adequately addressed, particularly with regard to objective assessment approaches. METHODS: Second-year medical students enrolled in our Medical English Course between 2019 and 2021 were recruited from Hokkaido University, Japan (N = 321) to participate in this study. We evaluated the potential impact of teaching styles on the academic performance of students before (2019; face-to-face) and during (2020; online; 2021; in-person and online) the pandemic. We examined the potential effect of three teaching styles--in-person (2019), online (2020), and a combination of these (2021) on the academic performance of medical students using: (i) subjective assessment of self-reported general English skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking; and (ii) objective assessment of medical terminology scores, evidence-based medicine (EBM) skills, and final written exam scores. RESULTS: In-person education significantly improved listening and speaking skills in 2019 (p < 0.001). This trend was observed for writing skills in an online course in 2020 (p = 0.001). With the combined teaching method, students reported significant improvements in all four English skills. In our objective assessments, medical terminology improved significantly post-test versus pre-test for all three teaching styles, and we found that the online course did not adversely affect the gain in medical terminology knowledge during the course. Additionally, we did not find any significant differences across the three applied teaching styles regarding EBM skill levels. It is noteworthy that the students taking online courses had a significantly higher final exam score (mean ± SD; 82.8 ± 8.2) than in in-person (78.6 ± 8.8) and combined (79.7 ± 12.1) teaching styles. CONCLUSIONS: In our study, the online/combined courses showed better academic outcomes compared to the face-to-face course in the preclinical clerkship. Although the current results need to be replicated on a larger scale, online/combined courses can continue and evolve in the post-pandemic education of medical students. Medical schools and institutions should consider incorporating such courses, especially combined courses, into their curricula in the future to improve the effectiveness, accessibility, and flexibility of medical education.

The development of generic pharmaceuticals involves a bioequivalence study to ensure the therapeutic equivalence of the test formulation to the original innovative product. The formulation characteristics of generic products are expected to be maintained in the long term after approval. This study analyzed the factors contributing to the changes in the dissolution profiles of approved products during their life cycles. Cumulative data on the dissolution similarity of 1675 products of 127 ingredients tested by official laboratories in Japan were assessed according to Japanese bioequivalence guidelines with slight modifications. The products showing dissimilarities in dissolution profiles were analyzed for reporting year, therapeutic category, co-development, physical properties of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), and suspected reasons for dissolution change. The increase in the number of dissimilar products is related to the co-development of generic products. Although the solubility of the API was not associated with the dissolution change in the analysis of the total dissolution data, control of the API particle size is suggested to be important for drugs with poorly soluble APIs. Additionally, a risk factor for dissolution changes in the test solutions at a certain pH was the presence of acidic or basic residues. These results indicate the importance of proper development through a thorough evaluation of the formulation and process factors affecting the dissolution properties throughout the product lifecycle.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are typically characterized by activating mutations of the KIT proto-oncogene receptor tyrosine kinase (KIT) or platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRA). Recently, the neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase (NTRK) fusion was reported in a small subset of wild-type GIST. We examined trk IHC and NTRK gene expressions in GIST. Pan-trk immunohistochemistry (IHC) was positive in 25 (all 16 duodenal and 9 out of 16 small intestinal GISTs) of 139 cases, and all pan-trk positive cases showed diffuse and strong expression of c-kit. Interestingly, all of these cases showed only trkB but not trkA/trkC expression. Cap analysis of gene expression (CAGE) analysis identified increased number of genes whose promoters were activated in pan-trk/trkB positive GISTs. Imbalanced expression of NTRK2, which suggests the presence of NTRK2 fusion, was not observed in any of trkB positive GISTs, despite higher mRNA expression. TrkB expression was found in duodenal GISTs and more than half of small intestinal GISTs, and this subset of cases showed poor prognosis. However, there was not clear difference in clinical outcomes according to the trkB expression status in small intestinal GISTs. These findings may provide a possible hypothesis for trkB overexpression contributing to the tumorigenesis and aggressive clinical outcome in GISTs of duodenal origin.

BACKGROUND: Dynamic knee valgus (DKV) during dynamic activity is associated with patellofemoral pain, one of the most common sports disorders, especially in females. No studies have examined the factors that can lead to DKV in females as compared to males while addressing the influence of factors on each other. OBJECTIVE: To identify factors of pelvis and lower joints kinematics affecting DKV during single-leg squat (SLS) in females compared to males with multiple regression analysis. METHODS: Forty-four healthy young people (24 females, 20 males) performed SLS, and pelvis, hip, knee, and ankle 3D kinematics were recorded. The 2D knee frontal plane projection angle (FPPA) was adopted as the DKV measurement. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the relationship between FPPA and the kinematics of each joint and segment. RESULTS: Hip adduction and pelvic contralateral rotation were explanatory factors for FPPA in females. Hip adduction, hip internal rotation, and knee external rotation were explanatory factors in males. CONCLUSIONS: The lower limb or pelvic motion factors affecting DKV during SLS differ between the sexes, with pelvic contralateral rotation being extracted only in women, possibly due to differences in pelvic width.

BACKGROUND: The longitudinal arch of the foot acts like a spring during stance and contributes to walking efficiency. Pronated foot characterized by a collapsed medial longitudinal arch may have the impaired spring-like function and poor walking efficiency. However, the differences in the energetic behavior during walking between individuals with pronated foot and neutral foot have not been considered. RESEARCH QUESTION: How does the energetic behavior within the foot and proximal lower limb joints in pronated foot affect walking efficiency? METHODS: Twenty-one healthy young adults were classified into neutral foot and pronated foot based on the Foot Posture Index score. All subjects walked across the floor and attempted to have the rearfoot and forefoot segments contact separate force plates to analyze the forces acting on isolated regions within the foot. Kinematic and kinetic data were recorded by a three-dimensional motion capture system. The hip, knee, ankle, and mid-tarsal joint power was quantified using a 6-degree-of-freedom joint power method. To qualify total power within all structures of the foot and forefoot, we used a unified deformable segment analysis. Additionally, we calculated the center of mass power to quantify the total power of the whole body RESULTS: There is no difference in the mid-tarsal joint work between the pronated foot and neutral foot. On the other hand, pronated foot exhibited greater net negative work at structures distal to the forefoot during walking. Additionally, pronated foot exhibited less net positive work at the ankle and center of mass during walking compared to neutral foot. SIGNIFICANCE: Individuals with pronated foot generate the mid-tarsal joint work by increasing the work absorbed at structures distal to the forefoot, which results in reduced energy efficiency during walking. That energy inefficiency may reduce positive work at the ankle and affect the walking efficiency in individuals with pronated foot.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify the contribution of the common synaptic drives to motor units during obstacle avoidance, using coherence analysis between a-pair electromyography (EMG) signals (EMG-EMG coherence). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fourteen healthy volunteers walked on a treadmill with and without obstacle avoidance. During obstacle gait, subjects were instructed to step over an obstacle with their right leg while walking that would randomly and unpredictably appear. Surface EMG signals were recorded from the following muscles of the right leg: the proximal and distal ends of tibialis anterior (TAp and TAd), biceps femoris (BF), semitendinosus (ST), lateral gastrocnemius (LG), and medial gastrocnemius (MG). Beta-band (13-30 Hz) EMG-EMG coherence was analysed. RESULTS: Beta-band EMG-EMG coherence of TAp-TAd during swing phase and BF-ST during pre and initial swing phase when stepping over an obstacle were significantly higher compared to normal gait (both p < 0.05). Beta-band EMG-EMG coherence of TAp-TAd, BF-ST, and LG-MG during stance phase were not significantly different between the two gait conditions (all p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The present findings suggest increased common synaptic drives to motor units in ankle dorsiflexor and knee flexor muscles during obstacle avoidance. It also may reflect an increased cortical contribution to modify the gait patterns to avoid an obstacle.

BACKGROUND: The rate of residual liver recurrence after the resection of colorectal liver metastases is high, and most cases recur within 5 years of the initial hepatectomy. Here, we report two cases of residual liver recurrence after radical resection of colorectal liver metastases after a long recurrence-free survival period. CASE PRESENTATION: Case 1 involved a 62-year-old woman treated for ascending colon cancer in April 2011 who underwent right hepatectomy for synchronous colorectal liver metastasis in April 2012. However, in September 2021, computed tomography revealed residual recurrence in the lateral segment of the liver, and a lateral segmentectomy of the liver was performed. In Case 2, a 52-year-old man treated for cecal cancer in July 2002 underwent lateral segmentectomy of the liver for metachronous colorectal liver metastasis in October 2006. Subsequently, there was no recurrence; however, computed tomography showed residual liver recurrence in the right lobe of the liver in October 2021, and an expanded posterior hepatic segmentectomy was performed. Histopathological findings in both cases were consistent with colorectal liver metastases. CONCLUSIONS: We encountered two cases in which residual liver recurrence was observed after a long period of recurrence-free survival. Although rare, there have been a few cases of late recurrence of liver metastases after radical resection of cancer liver metastases.

Background: Distinguishing multiple system atrophy from other parkinsonian syndromes is challenging. Objectives: To evaluate vagus nerve ultrasonography for differentiating parkinsonian syndromes. Methods: A single-center, cross-sectional, observational study assessed 85 consecutive adult patients with de novo parkinsonism between June 2020 and December 2022, using 12 MHz ultrasonography of the vagus nerve cross-sectional area. Results: Bilateral vagus nerves were smaller in multiple system atrophy than in other parkinsonian syndromes. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for differentiating multiple system atrophy was 0.79 on the right side and 0.74 on the left. The cut-off values to diagnose multiple system atrophy were 0.71 and 0.86 mm2 on the right and left sides, respectively, with sensitivities of 82.6% and 87.0%, specificities of 74.2% and 64.5%, positive predictive values of 54% and 47.6%, and negative predictive values of 92.0% and 93.0%. Conclusions: Vagus nerve ultrasonography may differentiate multiple system atrophy from other parkinsonian syndromes.

Objective: The aim of the study is to discuss the efficacy of live vs. remote cadaver surgical training (CST) for minimally invasive surgery (MIS). Methods: A cohort of 30 interns in their first and second years of training were divided into three groups: live observers (n = 12), live participants (n = 6), and remote observers: (n = 12). The interns had the opportunity to either observe or actively participate in two different surgical procedures, namely, laparoscopic lower anterior resection, performed by a colorectal surgical team, and laparoscopic fundoplication, performed by a pediatric surgical team. The procedures were conducted either at a base center or at a remote center affiliated with the institute. Some of the interns interacted directly with the surgical teams at the base center, and others interacted indirectly with the surgical teams from the remote center. All interns were administered questionnaires before and after completion of the CST in order to assess their understanding of various aspects related to the operating room layout/instruments (called "design"), accessing the surgical field (called "field"), understanding of anatomic relations (called "anatomy"), their skill of dissection (called "dissection"), ability to resolve procedural/technical problems (called "troubleshooting"), and their skill in planning surgery (called "planning") according to their confidence to operate using the following scale: 1 = not confident to operate independently; 4 = confident to operate with a more senior trainee; 7 = confident to operate with a peer; and 10 = confident to operate with a less experienced trainee. A p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: All scores improved after CST at both the base and remote centers. The following significant increases were observed: for remote observers: "field" (2.67→4.92; p < .01), "anatomy" (3.58→5.75; p < .01), "dissection" (3.08→4.33; p = .01), and "planning" (3.08→4.33; p < .01); for live observers: "design" (3.75→6.17; p < .01), "field" (2.83→5.17; p < .01), "anatomy" (3.67→5.58; p < .01), "dissection" (3.17→4.58; p < .01), "troubleshooting" (2.33→3.67; p < .01), and "planning" (2.92→4.25; p < .01); and for live participants: "design" (3.83→6.33; p = .02), "field" (2.83→6.83; p < .01), "anatomy" (3.67→5.67; p < .01), "dissection" (2.83→6.17; p < .01), "troubleshooting" (2.17→4.17; p < .01), and "planning" (2.83→4.67; p < .01). Understanding of "design" improved significantly after CST in live observers compared with remote observers (p < .01). Understanding of "field and "dissection" improved significantly after CST in live participants compared with live observers (p = .01, p = .03, respectively). Out of the 12 remote observers, 10 participants (83.3%) reported that interacting with surgical teams was easy because they were not on-site. Conclusions: Although all the responses were subjective and the respondents were aware that observation was inferior to hands-on experience, the results from both centers were equivalent, suggesting that remote learning could potentially be viable when resources are limited.
