RESUMEN

In this study, a flexible, free-standing Fe-doped CoP nanoarrays electrode for superior lithium-ion storage has been successfully fabricated. The electrode combines the advantages of a Fe-doping and a flexible carbon cloth (CC) support, resulting in a high specific capacity (1356 mAh/g at 0.2 A/g) and excellent cycling stability (1138 mAh/g after 100 cycles). The cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves at different scan rates investigate the outstanding lithium storage behavior of Fe-CoP-NAs/CC which indicates a combined influence of diffusion behavior and capacitance behavior on the electrochemical process. The galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT) analyzes the diffusion kinetics of Li+ which indicates the fast diffusion kinetics in the Fe-CoP/NAs/CC anode. The assembled Fe-CoP-NAs/CC//LiFePO4 battery exhibits a remarkable capacity of 325.2 mAh/g even at 5 A/g. And the battery also has good cycle stability, and still provides 498.1 mAh/g specific capacity after 200 cycles. Moreover, the Fe-CoP-NAs/CC//LiFePO4 soft-pack battery can continuously power the LEDs when it is bent at various angles which demonstrates its potential for use in wearable devices.

RESUMEN

Research and development of flexible electrodes with high performance are crucial to largely determine the performance of flexible lithium-ion batteries (FLIBs) to a large extent. In this work, a flexible anode (TiO2 NRs-MoS2 NSFs/CC) is rationally designed and successfully constructed, in which TiO2 nanorods arrays (NRs) vertically grown on CC as a supporting backbone for MoS2 nanosheets flowers (NSFs) to form a TiO2 NRs-MoS2 NSFs heterostructure. The backbone can not only serve as a mechanical support MoS2 and improve its electronic conductivity, but also limit the dissolution of polysulfides issue during cycling. The density functional theory (DFT) analysis manifests that the obvious interaction between O and S at the interface for the TiO2 NRs-MoS2 NSFs heterostructure changes the electronic structure and reduces the band gap of TiO2 NRs-MoS2 NSFs. The small band gap and high electron state at the Fermi level are both beneficial to the transport of electrons, enhancing the kinetics, and giving the long cycling stability at high density and excellent rate capacity. Furthermore, the assembled TiO2 NRs-MoS2 NSFs/CC//NCM622 full cell delivers superior rate capacity and good cycling stability. Meanwhile, the soft-packed cell shows good mechanical flexibility, which can be lighted up successfully and keep brightness when folding with different angles. This result illustrates that it is a highly potential strategy for constructing flexible electrodes with the controlled electronic structure through band engineering to not only improve the electrochemical performance, but also possibly meet the requirements of high-performance FLIBs.

RESUMEN

Proton toxicity is one of the major environmental stresses limiting crop production and becomes increasingly serious because of anthropogenic activities. To understand acid tolerance mechanisms, the plant growth, mineral nutrients accumulation, and global transcriptome changes in soybean (Glycine max) in response to long-term acidity stress were investigated. Results showed that acidity stress significantly inhibited soybean root growth but exhibited slight effects on the shoot growth. Moreover, concentrations of essential mineral nutrients were significantly affected by acidity stress, mainly differing among soybean organs and mineral nutrient types. Concentrations of phosphorus (P) and molybdenum (Mo) in both leaves and roots, nitrogen (N), and potassium (K) in roots and magnesium (Mg) in leaves were significantly decreased by acidity stress, respectively. Whereas, concentrations of calcium (Ca), sulfate (S), and iron (Fe) were increased in both leaves and roots. Transcriptome analyses in soybean roots resulted in identification of 419 up-regulated and 555 down-regulated genes under acid conditions. A total of 38 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were involved in mineral nutrients transportation. Among them, all the detected five GmPTs, four GmZIPs, two GmAMTs, and GmKUPs, together with GmIRT1, GmNramp5, GmVIT2.1, GmSKOR, GmTPK5, and GmHKT1, were significantly down-regulated by acidity stress. Moreover, the transcription of genes encoding transcription factors (e.g., GmSTOP2s) and associated with pH stat metabolic pathways was significantly up-regulated by acidity stress. Taken together, it strongly suggests that maintaining pH stat and mineral nutrient homeostasis are adaptive strategies of soybean responses to acidity stress, which might be regulated by a complex signaling network.

RESUMEN

We hypothesized that deterministic tractography is practical and sensitive to changes in the complex nigrostriatal and nigropallidal pathway (NSP) in Parkinson's disease (PD). Using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) tractography, we investigated the NSP to evaluate differences between PD patients and controls, and examined their clinico-radiologic correlation. Structural and DTI brain scans were obtained in 40 subjects (21 PD patients and 19 healthy controls). We isolated the NSP using a user-friendly DTI toolkit based on deterministic brute-force tractography. DTI parameters of fractional anisotropy (FA), mean, axial, and radial diffusivity, and streamline count of the NSP were measured. Average FA (p < 0.01) and streamline count (p < 0.001) were significantly lower in the PD compared to control group. Mean diffusivity and radial diffusivity were significantly higher in the PD group (p < 0.05). Average streamline count correlated with the United Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale motor score (p < 0.05). Point-to-point FA profiles of the tract demonstrated peak divergence between PD and control towards the tract midpoint rather than the distal grey matter. Our findings demonstrated a clinically and radiologically practical application of DTI tractography to the NSP in PD, without requiring complex imaging sequences for anatomical localization or segmentation software.

RESUMEN

STUDY OBJECTIVES: To assess whether changes in psychomotor vigilance during sleep deprivation can be estimated using heart rate variability (HRV). DESIGN: HRV, ocular, and electroencephalogram (EEG) measures were compared for their ability to predict lapses on the Psychomotor Vigilance Task (PVT). SETTING: Chronobiology and Sleep Laboratory, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore. PARTICIPANTS: Twenty-four healthy Chinese men (mean age ± SD = 25.9 ± 2.8 years). INTERVENTIONS: Subjects were kept awake continuously for 40 hours under constant environmental conditions. Every 2 hours, subjects completed a 10-minute PVT to assess their ability to sustain visual attention. MEASUREMENTS AND RESULTS: During each PVT, we examined the electrocardiogram (ECG), EEG, and percentage of time that the eyes were closed (PERCLOS). Similar to EEG power density and PERCLOS measures, the time course of ECG RR-interval power density in the 0.02-0.08-Hz range correlated with the 40-hour profile of PVT lapses. Based on receiver operating characteristic curves, RR-interval power density performed as well as EEG power density at identifying a sleepiness-related increase in PVT lapses above threshold. RR-interval power density (0.02-0.08 Hz) also classified subject performance with sensitivity and specificity similar to that of PERCLOS. CONCLUSIONS: The ECG carries information about a person's vigilance state. Hence, HRV measures could potentially be used to predict when an individual is at increased risk of attentional failure. Our results suggest that HRV monitoring, either alone or in combination with other physiologic measures, could be incorporated into safety devices to warn drowsy operators when their performance is impaired.

RESUMEN

Scale holds the key to understand pattern-process interactions, and indeed, becomes one of the corner-stone concepts in landscape ecology. Geographic Information System and remote sensing techniques provide an effective tool to characterize the spatial pattern and spatial heterogeneity at different scales. As an example, these techniques are applied to analyze the urban landscape diversity index, contagion index and fractal dimension on the SPOT remote sensing images at four scales. This paper modeled the semivariogram of these three landscape indices at different scales, and the results indicated that the spatial variance characters of diversity index, contagion index and fractal dimension were similar at different scales, which was spatial dependence. The spatial dependence was showed at each scale, the smaller the scale, the stronger the spatial dependence. With the scale reduced, more details of spatial variance were discovered. The contribution of spatial autocorrelation of these three indices to total spatial variance increased gradually, but when the scale was quite small, spatial variance analysis would destroy the interior structure of landscape system. The semivariogram models of different landscape indices were very different at the same scale, illuminating that these models were incomparable at different scales. According to above analyses and based on the study of urban land use structure, 1 km extent was the more perfect scale for studying the spatial variance of urban landscape pattern in Shanghai. The spatial variance of landscape indices had the character of scale-dependence, and was a function of scale. The results differed at different scales we chose, and thus, the influence of scales on pattern could not be neglected in the research of landscape ecology. The changes of these three landscape indices displayed the regularity of urban spatial structure at different scales, i. e., they were complicated and no regularity at small scale, polycentric at moderate scale, and circle-zoning at big scale.
