OBJECTIVES: To explore the context and hotspot changes of forensic mixed stain research through bibliometric approach. METHODS: The literature of forensic mixed stain included in the core collection of Web of Science database from 2011 to 2022 were collected as the study object, and the annual publication number, countrie (region), institution, journal, keywords, etc. were bibliometrically and visually analyzed using the R-based Bibliometrix 1.1.6 package and VOSviewer 1.6.18 software. RESULTS: A total of 732 articles on forensic mixed stain were included from 2011 to 2022, with the annual number of articles published and the annual citation frequency showing a steady increase year by year. Among the 59 countries (regions) with the most published articles, the United States ranked first with 246 articles, followed by China with 153 articles. The literature came from 104 journals, and the total number of articles published in the top 10 journals was 633. FORENSIC SCI INT GENET ranked first with 307 articles. Visual analysis using VOSviewer software showed that keywords could be divided into four research clusters, namely the genetic marker development group (blue), the mixed stain typing analysis theory group (red), the sequencing analysis group (yellow), and the case sample research group (green). It can be divided into four development stages in terms of different time periods: early development (2011-2013), middle development (2014-2016), rapid development (2017-2020) and latest development (2021-2022). CONCLUSIONS: The number of publications by domestic and foreign scholars in the study of mixed stain in forensic science is showing a relatively stable trend. Machine learning, next generation sequencing and other research have been the hottest topics that have attracted the most attention in recent years, which is expected to further develop the theory of mixed stain typing and sequencing analysis in forensic mixed stain research.

Large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) is the most productive marine fish in China. Cryptocaryon irritans is an extremely destructive parasite that causes great economic losses in large yellow croaker aquaculture industry. Therefore, it is very necessary to study the immune response of large yellow croaker in response to C. irritans infection. In this study, the transcriptomic profiles of large yellow croaker were sequenced and analyzed in the brain and head kidney at 72 h after C. irritans infection. Cytokines and chemokines related terms were significantly enriched based on the GO enrichment of down-regulated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) from the head kidney. Meanwhile, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction was significantly enriched based on the KEGG enrichment of up-regulated DEGs from the brain and down-regulated DEGs from the head kidney, respectively. Moreover, the majority of inflammation-related DEGs were significantly up-regulated in the brain, but distinctly down-regulated in the head kidney. These results showed that the brain and head kidney might play different roles against C. irritans infection, and the inflammatory response of large yellow croaker may be restrained during C. irritans infection. Taken together, the transcriptomic analyses will be helpful to more comprehensively understand the immune mechanism of teleost against C. irritans infection, and provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of Cryptosporidiosis.

BACKGROUND: Neoadjuvant trastuzumab/pertuzumab (HP) plus chemotherapy for HER2-positive breast cancer (BC) achieved promising efficacy. The additional cardiotoxicity still existed. Brecan study evaluated the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD)/cyclophosphamide and sequential nab-paclitaxel based on HP (PLD/C/HP-nabP/HP). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Brecan was a single-arm phase II study. Eligible patients with stages IIA-IIIC HER2-positive BC received 4 cycles of PLD, cyclophosphamide, and HP, followed by 4 cycles of nab-paclitaxel and HP. Definitive surgery was scheduled after 21 days for patients completing treatment or experiencing intolerable toxicity. The primary endpoint was the pathological complete response (pCR). RESULTS: Between January 2020 and December 2021, 96 patients were enrolled. Ninety-five (99.0%) patients received 8 cycles of neoadjuvant therapy and all underwent surgery with 45 (46.9%) breast-conserving surgery and 51 (53.1%) mastectomy. The pCR was 80.2% (95%CI, 71.2%-87.0%). Four (4.2%) experienced left ventricular insufficiency with an absolute decline in LVEF (43%-49%). No congestive heart failure and ≥grade 3 cardiac toxicity occurred. The objective response rate was 85.4% (95%CI, 77.0%-91.1%), including 57 (59.4%) complete responses and 25 (26.0%) partial responses. The disease control rate was 99.0% (95%CI, 94.3%-99.8%). For overall safety, ≥grade 3 AEs occurred in 30 (31.3%) and mainly included neutropenia (30.2%) and asthenia (8.3%). No treatment-related deaths occurred. Notably, age of >30 (P = .01; OR = 5.086; 95%CI, 1.44-17.965) and HER2 IHC 3+ (P = .02; OR = 4.398; 95%CI, 1.286-15.002) were independent predictors for superior pCR (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT05346107). CONCLUSION: Brecan study demonstrated the encouraging safety and efficacy of neoadjuvant PLD/C/HP-nabP/HP, suggesting a potential therapeutic option in HER2-positive BC.

RESUMEN

A concise asymmetric total synthesis of (-)-quinocarcin has been accomplished with high step economy from commercially available starting materials. A catalytic enantioselective reductive 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of N-heteroaryl secondary amides with reactive dipolarophiles using iridium/copper relay catalysis was developed to prepare the key chiral pyrrolidine intermediate with three stereocenters. This protocol features excellent regio-, exo- and enantioselectivities, broad substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance. The high efficiency was also ensured by a RhIII -catalyzed C-H activation/cyclization and a tandem diastereoselective hydrogenation/cyclization to construct the tetrahydroisoquinoline-pyrrolidine tetracyclic core unit of quinocarcin.

Objective: To explore the applicability of 20 rapidly mutating Y-chromosomal short tandem repeats (RM Y-STRs) in Chinese Han population of Sichuan province. Methods: Two RM Y-STR multiple amplification systems (RM1, including DYF404S1, DYF399S1, DYS547, DYS526a/b, DYS626, DYF403S1a/b, and DYS612, and RM2, including DYS1003, DYS1007, DYR88, DYS712, DYS711, DYS724, and DYF1002, with 14 RM Y-STR loci in total) and Y41SE-V1.2 (including 6 RM Y-STR loci of DYS627, DYS576, DYF387S1, DYS518, DYS570, and DYS449, 30 ordinary Y-chromosomal short tandem repeats [Y-STR] loci, and 1 Indel locus) were used for the amplification and typing of 200 unrelated males and 260 father-son pairs. The polymorphisms and mutation rates of 20 RM Y-STRs and 30 ordinary Y-STRs in Chinese Han population of Sichuan province were investigated and compared. Results: In the 200 unrelated males, the gene diversity (GD) of 20 RM Y-STR loci ranged from 0.7910 to 0.9975, and there were 200 haplotypes. Haplotype diversity (HD) was 1 and the discriminative capacity (DC) was 1. A total of 198 haplotypes were found in Y41se-v1.2 (the 30 Y-STRs), with 4 cases sharing two haplotypes, the haplotype diversity being 0.9999, and the discriminative capacity being 0.99. A total of 68 mutations were found at the 20 RM Y-STRs loci in the 260 father-son pairs, and there was slightly more increase than decrease of allele repeats (1.19∶1), with the mutation rate ranging from <3.85×10 -3 (95% C I: 0.00-1.41×10 -2) to 2.69×10 -2 (95% CI: 1.09×10 -2-5.47×10 -2), and the average mutation rate being 1.19×10 -2 (95% CI: 9.20×10 -3-1.51×10 -2). The 20 RM Y-STRs and the Y41SE-V1.2 (the 30 Y-STRs) could be used to distinguish 22.3% and 13.8% father-son pairs, respectively. Conclusion: The 20 RM Y-STRs have high gene and haplotype diversity and paternal lineage differentiation rate in Chinese Han population of Sichuan province, showing great potential for application in Chinese Han population of Sichuan province.

The design of white-light phosphor is highly desirable for practical applications in SSL (solid-state lighting) and its related fields. Dye-loaded metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely demonstrated as one type of promising down conversion materials for WLEDs (white-light-emitting diodes), but two issues (dye leakage and inadequate quantum efficiency) require to be addressed before possible applications. Here, a series of single-phase dyes@In-MOF phosphors have been prepared in two different ways: the in-situ process and soaking method. The study of these dyes@In-MOF phosphors confirms the importance of this in-situ process that could effectively increase dye loading and quantum efficiency and greatly decrease dye leakage. As a result, a perfect WLED, fabricated using the in-situ-synthesized (AF/RhB@In-MOF)-3 (AF: Acriflavine; RhB: Rhodamine B) and 450 nm blue LED chip, exhibited a very high quantum yield (QY, up to 42.27%), a high luminous efficacy (LE) of 50.75 lm/W, a high color rendering index (CRI) of 91.2, and nearly identical Commission International ed'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates (0.33,0.31), indicating the potential application of the dye-loaded MOFs with good color quality in smart white LEDs.

Importance: Mild thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) negatively impacts quality of life, yet no clinical guidelines for its treatment are available. Existing evidence supports the use of doxycycline in treating mild TAO. Objective: To evaluate the short-term (12 weeks) efficacy of doxycycline in treating mild TAO. Design, Setting, and Participants: In this placebo-controlled multicenter randomized double-masked trial, 148 patients were assessed for eligibility. After exclusions (patients who were pregnant or lactating, had an allergy to tetracyclines, or had uncontrolled systematic diseases), 100 patients with mild TAO (orbital soft tissue affected mildly) at 5 centers in China were enrolled from July 2013 to December 2019 and monitored for 12 weeks. Interventions: Participants were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive doxycycline (50 mg) or placebo once daily for 12 weeks. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was the rate of improvement at 12 weeks compared with baseline assessed by a composite indicator of eyelid aperture (reduction ≥2 mm), proptosis (reduction ≥2 mm), ocular motility (increase ≥8°), and Graves ophthalmopathy-specific quality-of-life (GO-QOL) scale score (increase ≥6 points). Adverse events were recorded. Results: A total of 50 participants were assigned to doxycycline and 50 to placebo. The mean (SD) age was 36.7 (9.1) years; 75 participants (75.0%) were female and 100 (100.0%) were Asian. Medication compliance was checked during participant interviews and by counting excess tablets. At week 12, the improvement rate was 38.0% (19 of 50) in the doxycycline group and 16.0% (8 of 50) in the placebo group (difference, 22.0%; 95% CI, 5.0-39.0; P = .01) in the intention-to-treat population. The per-protocol sensitivity analysis showed similar results (39.6% [19 of 48] vs 16.0% [8 of 50]; difference, 23.6%; 95% CI, 6.4-40.8; P = .009). No adverse events other than 1 case of mild gastric acid regurgitation was recorded in either group. Conclusions and Relevance: The results of this study indicate that oral doxycycline, 50 mg daily, resulted in greater improvement of TAO-related symptoms at 12 weeks compared with placebo in patients with mild TAO. These findings support the consideration of doxycycline for mild TAO but should be tempered by recognizing the relatively short follow-up and the size of the cohort. Purpose: To evaluate changes in the levator palpebrae superioris (LPS) muscle on 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after triamcinolone acetonide injection for treating upper lid retraction (ULR) with Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO) and to explore the value of LPS muscle quantitative measurement for clinical treatment. Methods: Patients with GO showing ULR were studied retrospectively and they underwent 3.0 T MRI scans before and after subconjunctival injection o f triamcinolone acetonide. The largest thickness (T) and highest signal intensity (SI) of LPS muscle on the affected eyes were measured in the sequences of coronal T2-weighted, fat-suppressed fast spin echo imaging (T2WI-fs) and T1-weighted, fat-suppressed, contrast-enhanced fast spin echo imaging (T1WI-fs + C), respectively. The SI ratio (SIR) (LPS muscle SI/ipsilateral temporalis SI) was calculated individually. Depending on the therapeutic effect, patients were divided into effective group and non-effective group. Independent t-test was used to compare SIR and T of LPS muscle in different treatment groups before treatment, and paired sample t-test was used to compare SIR and T of LPS muscle before and after treatment. Then cut-off level for predicting therapeutic effect and the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) curve were analyzed. Results: Sixty-two patients (77 eyes) were enrolled. After treatment, the T of LPS muscle showed significant decrease in all sequences in both effective and non-effective treatment groups. However, changes in SIR of LPS muscle in the two groups were different; SIR of LPS muscle on T2WI-fs and T1WI-fs + C decreased after treatment in the effective group (PT2 < 0.001, PT1 + C < 0.001) and SIR of LPS muscle showed no statistically difference in all sequences (all P > 0.05) in the non-effective group. There was a correlation between SIR of LPS muscle before treatment and after treatment with triamcinolone acetonide injection, which was that SIR of LPS muscle in the effective treatment group was lower than that in the non-effective treatment group on T1WI-fs + C (P < 0.001). SIR of LPS muscle on T1WI-fs + C showed 87.5% sensitivity and 66.7% specificity to predict therapeutic effect (area under the ROC curve [AUC] = 0.840). Conclusion: In GO patients with ULR, 3.0 T MRI can be used to evaluate the response of triamcinolone acetonide injection. SIR of LPS may be a predictor of its efficacy.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the genetic information of 57 autosomal InDel loci (A-InDels) included in AGCU InDel 60 fluorescence detection kit in the Beichuan Qiang population of Sichuan Province and evaluate its application value in forensic medicine. METHODS: A total of 200 unrelated healthy individuals from Beichuan Qiang population of Sichuan Province were typing detected by AGCU InDel 60 fluorescence detection kit. Allele frequencies and population genetic parameters of the 57 A-InDels were statistically analyzed and compared with the available data of 26 populations. RESULTS: After Bonferroni correction, there was no linkage disequilibrium between the 57 A-InDels, and all loci were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Except for rs66595817 and rs72085595, the minor allele frequencies of 55 A-InDels were above 0.3. PIC ranged from 0.298 3 to 0.375 0, CDP was 1-2.974 8×10-24, CPEduo was 0.999 062 660, and CPEtrio was 0.999 999 999. The calculation of the genetic distance showed that Beichuan Qiang population had the closest genetic distances with Beijing Han and South China Han populations, but far away from African populations. CONCLUSIONS: The 57 A-InDels in AGCU InDel 60 fluorescence detection kit have a good genetic polymorphism in Beichuan Qiang population of Sichuan Province, which can be used as effective supplemental for individual identification and paternity identification in forensic medicine.

Solid-liquid interface is a key concept of many research fields, enabling numerous physical phenomena and practical applications. For example, electrode-electrolyte interfaces with electric double layers have been widely used in energy storage and regulating physical properties of functional materials. Creating a specific interface allows emergent functionalities and effects. Here, we show the artificial control of ferroelectric-liquid interfacial structures to switch polarization states reversibly in a van der Waals layered ferroelectric CuInP2S6 (CIPS). We discover that upward and downward polarization states can be induced by spontaneous physical adsorption of dodecylbenzenesulphonate anions and N,N-diethyl-N-methyl-N-(2-methoxyethyl)-ammonium cations, respectively, at the ferroelectric-liquid interface. This distinctive approach circumvents the structural damage of CIPS caused by Cu-ion conductivity during electrical switching process. Moreover, the polarized state features super-long retention time (>1 year). The interplay between ferroelectric dipoles and adsorbed organic ions has been studied systematically by comparative experiments and first-principles calculations. Such ion adsorption-induced reversible polarization switching in a van der Waals ferroelectric enriches the functionalities of solid-liquid interfaces, offering opportunities for liquid-controlled two-dimensional ferroelectric-based devices.

Objective@#To investigate the molecular mechanism of high phosphorylation levels of cofilin-1 (p-CFL-1) associated with paclitaxel resistance in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cells.@*Methods@#Cells displaying varying levels of p-CFL-1 and CFL-1 were created by plasmid transfection and shRNA interference. Cell inhibition rate indicating paclitaxel efficacy was assessed by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. Apoptosis was assessed by flow cytometry and protein levels were detected by western blotting. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to measure the expression levels of phosphokinases and phosphatases of CFL-1. Survival analysis evaluated the correlation between the prognosis of EOC patients and the levels of p-CFL-1 and slingshot-1 (SSH-1).@*Results@#High levels of p-CFL-1 were observed in EOC cells that survived treatment with high doses of paclitaxel. SKOV3 cell mutants with upregulated p-CFL-1 showed impaired paclitaxel efficacy, as well as decreased apoptosis rates and pro-survival patterns of apoptosis-specific protein expression. Cytoplasmic accumulation of p-CFL-1 inhibited paclitaxel-induced mitochondrial apoptosis. SSH-1 silencing mediated CFL-1 phosphorylation in paclitaxel-resistant SKOV3 cells. Clinically, the high level of p-CFL-1 and the low level of SSH-1 in EOC tissues were closely related to chemotherapy resistance and poor prognosis in EOC patients.@*Conclusion@#The SSH-1/p-CFL-1 signaling pathway mediates paclitaxel resistance by apoptosis inhibition in EOC and is expected to be a potential prognostic predictor.

Inthomycins are polyketide antibiotics which contain a terminal carboxamide group and a triene chain. Inthomycin B (1) and its two new analogues 2 and 3 were isolated from the crude extract of Streptomyces pactum L8. Identification of the gene cluster for inthomycin biosynthesis as well as the 15N-labeled glycine incorporation into inthomycins are described. Combined with the gene deletion of the rare P450 domain in the NRPS module, a formation mechanism of carboxamide moiety in inthomycins was proposed via an oxidative release of the assembly chain assisted by the P450 domain.

Cryptocaryon irritans, a pathogen model for fish mucosal immunity, causes skin mucosal and systematic humoral immune response. Where and how MHC II antigen presentation occurs in fish infected with C. irritans remain unknown. In this study, the full-length cDNA of the grouper cysteine protease CTSS was cloned. The expression distributions of six genes (CTSB, CTSL, CTSS, GILT, MHC IIA and MHC IIB) involved in MHC II antigen presentation pathway were tested. These genes were highly expressed in systematic immune tissues and skin and gill mucosal-associated immune tissues. All six genes were upregulated in skin at most time points. Five genes expected CTSS was upregulated in spleen at most time points. CTSB, CTSL and MHC IIA were upregulated in the gill and head kidney at some time points. These results indicate that the presentation of MHC II antigen intensively occurred in local infected skin and gill. Spleen, not head kidney, had the most extensive systematic antigen presentation. In skin, six genes most likely peaked at day 2, earlier than in spleen (5-7 days), marking an earlier skin antibody peak than any recorded in serum previously. This significant and earlier mucosal antigen presentation indicates that specific immune response occurs in local mucosal tissues.

RESUMEN

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the leading causes of cancer mortality worldwide. Various imaging modalities provide important information about HCC for its clinical management. Since positron-emission tomography (PET) or PET-computed tomography was introduced to the oncologic setting, it has played crucial roles in detecting, distinguishing, accurately staging, and evaluating local, residual, and recurrent HCC. PET imaging visualizes tissue metabolic information that is closely associated with treatment. Dynamic PET imaging and dual-tracer have emerged as complementary techniques that aid in various aspects of HCC diagnosis. The advent of new radiotracers and the development of immuno-PET and PET-magnetic resonance imaging have improved the ability to detect lesions and have made great progress in treatment surveillance. The current PET diagnostic capabilities for HCC and the supplementary techniques are reviewed herein.

AIM: To report the long-term outcomes of a large cohort of upper lid retraction patients treated with subconjunctival triamcinolone acetonide injections. METHODS: This retrospective clinical study was conducted from 2009 to 2016. The documents of 97 patients (126 eyes) were reviewed. The patients were treated with subconjunctival triamcinolone acetonide injections monthly and evaluated pre- and post-treatment by taking measurements of the upper margin reflex distance (MRD1, the distance between the upper-lid margin and the pupil center), lid aperture, lagophthalmos and proptosis. The patients were divided into the cured group, the improved group and the ineffective group based on the final treatment effectiveness. The improved group and the ineffective group were combined into non-cured group. RESULTS: The follow-up time was 23.45±14.86mo. Of the patients, 63 (64.9%) were assigned to the cured group, 22 (22.7%) in the improved group, 12 (12.4%) in the ineffective group. Injection times for cured group was 4.66±1.74, and for non-cured group was 5.17±2.08 (P≤0.05). The MRD1 was significantly reduced between baseline and 1mo after the initiation of treatment in the cured and improved groups (P<0.001). The values did not change significantly after 4mo for the improved group, while they continued to decrease in the cured group. In the ineffective group, the MRD1 did not significantly change after treatment. A statistically significant difference was observed between the baseline and post-treatment values of the mean muscle thickness (2.95±0.99 mm vs 2.04±0.63 mm, P<0.05) and surface area (27.27±10.5 mm2vs 18.3±7.04 mm2, P<0.05) of the levator superioris with magnetic resonance imaging examination. Twelve patients (12.4%) relapsed after treatment and required additional subconjunctival injections. The main side effects included menstrual cycle disturbances (32%) and elevations of intra-ocular pressure (18.6%). CONCLUSION: A repeated subconjunctival injection of triamcinolone is an effective and relatively safe treatment for upper lid retraction due to thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy. This is related to the anti-inflammation effect of the medicine and the levator thickness can become thinner. Patients must be monitored regularly for recurrences and side effects.

Carpesium humile Winkl is an endemic Chinese species and no previous phytochemical studies have been reported for this species. Two new germacranolides (1 and 2) and a new phytane diterpene (5), together with five known compounds (two sesquiterpenoids and three diterpenoids), were isolated from the aerial parts of C. humile. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. The conformations and absolute configurations of 1 and 2 were established by combinative analysis of NMR, CD exciton chirality, and X-ray crystallography data. Four germacranolides (1-4) showed strong cytotoxic activities, with broad spectrum activities against six human cancer (HepG2, HeLa, HL60, SGC7901, Lewis, and MDA231) cell lines in vitro using MTT assay, with IC50 values from 3.09 to 7.71 µg/mL. Diterpenes (5, 6, and 8) also displayed good cytotoxic activities for selected cancer cell lines, with IC50 values in the range 5.46-8.08 µg/mL.

Sagittal fracture at the temporal root of the zygomatic arch often occurs as a part of zygomaticomaxillary fractures. The authors described the application of computer-assisted navigation in the lag screw insertion for the fixation of sagittal fracture at the temporal root of zygomatic arch. Using the presurgical planning of the computer-assisted navigation system, the trajectory of lag screw insertion was designed, and the insertion depth was calculated. In the presurgical planning, the trajectory of screw insertion was placed with an anterior inclination of 10° to 15° (mean: 12.24°), and the screw insertion depth was 9.0 to 12.0 mm (mean: 10.65 mm). In the operation, the screw insertion in the fixation of the sagittal fracture was performed under the guidance of navigation system according to the presurgical planning. The postoperative CT scan showed exact reduction and fixation of the sagittal fracture in all cases. Computer-assisted navigation is a useful tool for the lag screw insertion in the precise fixation of sagittal fracture at the temporal root of the zygomatic arch in complex zygomaticomaxillary fractures.

In this study, the complete mitogenome sequence of Redbelly yellowtail fusileer, Caesio cuning (Teleostei: Caesionidae), has been sequenced by the next-generation sequencing method. The assembled mitogenome, consisting of 16 508 bp, had the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement, including 13 protein-coding genes, 22 transfer RNAs, 2 ribosomal RNAs genes and a non-coding control region of D-loop. D-loop contains 826 bp length that is located between tRNA-Pro and tRNA-Phe. The overall base composition of C. cuning is 28.1% for A, 31.1% for C, 16.3% for G and 24.4% for T. The complete mitogenome may provide essential and important DNA molecular data for further phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis for Caesionidae.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between post-extraction pain and acute pulpitis in third molars. METHODS: This study was a randomised controlled trial. Sixty patients requiring removal of a single maxillary third molar with acute pulpitis were included and randomly divided into two groups: group A (n = 30); and group B (n = 30). In group A, third molars were directly extracted, and group B received endodontic therapy (pulp chamber opening and drainage) and underwent extraction 24 hours later, aiming to eliminate the acute inflammation. Another 30 patients requiring removal of a single maxillary third molar and with the same inclusion criteria but without caries or acute pulpitis were recruited into group C, in which the maxillary third molars were also directly extracted. The level of postoperative pain reported each day among the three groups was statistically evaluated. RESULTS: On the first, second and third days after surgery, there was a statistically significant difference between group A and group B and between group A and group C, but there was no statistically significant difference between group B and group C. CONCLUSION: The results of the present study indicate that there is more pain when third molars with acute pulpitis are directly removed compared with the pain level of the removal of third molars without acute pulpitis.
