The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between the perceived value of outdoor activities and exercise persistence among elderly Chinese individuals. Specifically, the study aims to explore whether motivation for active social adaptation mediates this relationship. Three hundred twenty-five subjects were randomly chosen and invited to complete 3 questionnaires about the perceived value of outdoor activity, the motivation for active social adaptation, and the adherence to physical exercise. The results showed that older people's perception of the value of outdoor activity (function, landscape, and cost) has a statistically significant effect on their adherence to exercise. The mediating role of motivation for active social adaptation was also statistically significant, and the mediating role of active environmental adaptation motivation affected the perceived functional value, perceived landscape value of outdoor activities on adherence to exercise. Hence, it is concluded that older Chinese adults' perception of the value of outdoor activities promotes their adherence to exercise and reinforces it based on active social adaptation motivation.

Some observational studies have highlighted a significant association between cholecystitis and factors leading to sudden death; however, the specific relationship between the 2 has not been fully elucidated. The primary objective of this study was to elucidate the causal interplay between cholecystitis and augmented risk of sudden cardiac death. We used large-scale genetic summary data from genome-wide association study, genetic summary statistics were sourced from 3 eminent repositories: the UK Biobank (N = 463,010), the FinnGen consortium (N = 215,027), and the European Bioinformatics Institute (N = 471,251). By employing 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) to decipher the causal interplay between cholecystitis and sudden death etiologies, a meta-analytical approach was employed to amalgamate the findings derived from these disparate data sources. The primary MR methodologies used included inverse variance weighting with random effects, inverse variance weighting with fixed effects, maximum likelihood, MR-Egger, and weighted median. Subsequently, we performed heterogeneity testing, polyvalency examination, and sensitivity analysis to bolster the robustness of causal relationship assessments. Meta-analysis and amalgamating variegated data sources revealed a statistically significant inverse correlation between cholecystitis and ventricular arrhythmias (odds ratio, 0.896; 95% confidence interval: 0.826-0.971; P = .008). Similarly, an inverse association was observed between cholecystitis and aortic aneurysm (odds ratio, 0.899; 95% confidence interval: 0.851-0.951, P < .001). This study substantiates the absence of a direct causal link between cholecystitis and cerebrovascular accidents (P = .771), pulmonary embolism (P = .071), and acute myocardial infarction (P = .388). A direct causal correlation existed between cholecystitis and sudden death associated with ventricular arrhythmias and aortic aneurysms. The onset of cholecystitis may mitigate the risk of sudden death due to ventricular arrhythmias and aortic aneurysms.

OBJECTIVE: A plethora of studies have unequivocally established the profound significance of harmonious familial relationships on the psychological well-being of the elderly. In this study, we elucidate the intergenerational relationships, probing the association between frequent interactions or encounters with their children and the incidence of depression in old age. METHODOLOGY: We employed a retrospective cross-sectional study design, sourcing our data from the 2018 wave of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). To identify cases of depression, we utilized the 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CESD). Employing a five-fold cross-validation methodology, we endeavored to fashion five distinct machine learning models. Subsequently, we crafted learning curves to facilitate the refinement of hyperparameters, assessing model classification performance through metrics such as accuracy and the Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic (AUROC) curve. To further elucidate the relationship between variables and geriatric depression, logistic regression was subsequently applied. RESULTS: Our findings accentuated that sleep patterns emerged as the paramount determinants influencing the onset of depression in the elderly. Relationships with offspring ranked as the second most significant determinant, only surpassed by sleep habits. A negative correlation was observed between sleep patterns (Odds Ratio [OR]: 0.78, 95 % Confidence Interval [CI]: 0.75-0.81, P < 0.01), communication with offspring (OR: 0.86, 95 % CI: 0.82-0.90, P < 0.01), and the prevalence of depressive symptoms. Among the evaluated models, the k-Near Neighbor algorithm demonstrated commendable discriminative power. However, it was the Random Forest algorithm that manifested unparalleled discriminative prowess and precision, establishing itself as the most efficacious classifier. CONCLUSION: Prolonging the duration of nocturnal sleep, and elevating the frequency of communication with offspring have been identified as measures conducive to mitigating the onset of geriatric depression.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a severe ocular complication of diabetes that can lead to vision damage and even blindness. Currently, traditional deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) used for DR grading tasks face two primary challenges: (1) insensitivity to minority classes due to imbalanced data distribution, and (2) neglecting the relationship between the left and right eyes by utilizing the fundus image of only one eye for training without differentiating between them. To tackle these challenges, we proposed the DRGCNN (DR Grading CNN) model. To solve the problem caused by imbalanced data distribution, our model adopts a more balanced strategy by allocating an equal number of channels to feature maps representing various DR categories. Furthermore, we introduce a CAM-EfficientNetV2-M encoder dedicated to encoding input retinal fundus images for feature vector generation. The number of parameters of our encoder is 52.88 M, which is less than RegNet_y_16gf (80.57 M) and EfficientNetB7 (63.79 M), but the corresponding kappa value is higher. Additionally, in order to take advantage of the binocular relationship, we input fundus retinal images from both eyes of the patient into the network for features fusion during the training phase. We achieved a kappa value of 86.62% on the EyePACS dataset and 86.16% on the Messidor-2 dataset. Experimental results on these representative datasets for diabetic retinopathy (DR) demonstrate the exceptional performance of our DRGCNN model, establishing it as a highly competitive intelligent classification model in the field of DR. The synthesis of materials with a multicomponent hierarchical structure is an essential strategy for achieving high-performance electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption. However, conventional design strategies face challenges in terms of the rational construction of specific architecture. In this study, we employ a combined space-restricted and hierarchical construction strategy to surface-plant MoS2 nanosheets on yolk-shell structural carbon-modified Co-based composites, leading to the development of high-performance Co/NC@void@C@MoS2 absorbers with advanced architecture. The surface-planted MoS2 nanosheets, the Co/NC magnetic yolk, and the dielectric carbon shell work together to enhance the impedance matching characteristics and synergistic loss capabilities in the composites. Experimental results indicate that Co/NC@void@C-700@MoS2 exhibited the best absorption performance with an effective absorption bandwidth of 7.54 GHz (at 2.05 mm) and a minimum reflection loss of -60.88 dB (at 1.85 mm). Furthermore, radar cross-section simulation results demonstrate that Co/NC@void@C-700@MoS2 effectively suppresses the scattering and transmission of EMWs on perfect electric conductor substrates, implying its superior practical application value. This study provides inspiration and experimental basis for designing and optimizing EMW absorption materials with hierarchical yolk-shell architecture.

The rational and effective combination of multicomponent materials and the design of subtle microstructure for efficient microwave absorption are still challenging. In this study, carbon-coated CoFe with heterogeneous interfaces was space-restricted in the void space of hollow mesoporous carbon spheres through a facile approach involving electrostatic adsorption and annealing, and a high-performance microwave absorber (MAs) (denoted as Co0.7Fe0.3@C@void@C) was successfully prepared. The heterostructure, three-dimensional lightweight porous morphology, and electromagnetic synergy strategy enabled the Co0.7Fe0.3@C@void@C material with yolk-shell structure to exhibit surprising microwave absorption properties. When the annealing temperature and filler loading were 550° C and 15 wt%, respectively, the composites exhibited an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 7.16 GHz at 2.48 mm and a minimum reflection loss of -24.1 dB at 2.11 mm. A maximum EAB of 7.21 GHz at 2.37 mm could be achieved for the composite prepared with an annealing temperature of 650° C. In addition, radar cross-section experiments demonstrated, the potential practical applicability of Co0.7Fe0.3@C@void@C. This work expands a new avenue to develop high-performance and lightweight MAs with ingenious microstructure.

BACKGROUND: Pregnant women belong to the special population of drug therapy, and their physiological state, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are significantly different from the general population. Drug safety during pregnancy involves two generations, which is a hot issue widely concerned in the whole society. Global Trigger Tool (GTT) of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) has been wildly used as a patient safety measurement strategy by several institutions and national programs, and the effectiveness had been demonstrated. But only one study reports the use of GTT in obstetric delivery until now. The aim of the study is to establish triggers detecting adverse drug events (ADEs) suitable for obstetric inpatients on the basis of the GTT, to examine the performance of the obstetric triggers in detecting ADEs experienced by obstetric units compared with the spontaneous reporting system and GTT, and to assess the utility and value of the obstetric trigger tool in identifying ADEs of obstetric inpatients. METHODS: Based on a literature review searched in PubMed and CNKI from January of 1997 to October of 2023, retrospective local obstetric ADEs investigations, relevant obstetric guidelines and the common adverse reactions of obstetric therapeutic drugs were involved to establish the initial obstetric triggers. According to the Delphi method, two rounds of expert questionnaire survey were conducted among 16 obstetric and neonatological physicians and pharmacists until an agreement was reached. A retrospective study was conducted to identity ADEs in 300 obstetric inpatient records at the Sichuan Academy of Medical Sciences & Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital from June 1 to September 30, 2018. Two trained junior pharmacists analyzed the first eligible records independently, and the included records reviewed by trained pharmacist and physician to identify ADEs. Sensitivity and specificity of the established obstetric triggers were assessed by the number of ADEs/100 patients and positive predictive value with the spontaneous reporting system (SRS) and GTT. Excel 2010 and SPSS22 were used for data analysis. RESULTS: Through two rounds of expert investigation, 39 preliminary triggers were established that comprised four modules (12 laboratory tests, 9 medications, 14 symptoms, and 4 outcomes). A total of 300 medical records were reviewed through the obstetric triggers, of which 48 cases of ADEs were detected, with an incidence of ADEs of 16%. Among the 39 obstetric triggers, 22 (56.41%) were positive and 11 of them detected ADEs. The positive predictive value (PPV) was 36.36%, and the number of ADEs/100 patients was 16.33 (95% CI, 4.19-17.81). The ADE detection rate, positive trigger rate, and PPV for the obstetric triggers were significantly augmented, confirming that the obstetric triggers were more specific and sensitive than SRS and GTT. CONCLUSION: The obstetric triggers were proven to be sensitive and specific in the active monitoring of ADE for obstetric inpatients, which might serve as a reference for ADE detection of obstetric inpatients at medical institutions.

The boron phosphide (BP) van der Waals (vdW) homostructure is designed to construct high-performance nano-optoelectronic devices due to its distinctive photoelectric properties. Using density functional theory, the electronic properties of twisted and untwisted BP bilayer structures are systematically calculated. We found that the 0° structure is a direct band gap semiconductor with a type II band alignment, the carrier mobility of which is increased to 104, and its photoelectric conversion efficiency is 17.3%. By analyzing the band structure and exciton binding energy calculated at 0° under an electric field, it is further found that 0° is a superior photoelectric material. As for the twist BP bilayer, the band gap changes with torsional structures under the applied electric field, which generates the Stark effect. The twist angles of bilayer BP, specifically 13.17°, 21.79°, 38.21°, and 46.83°, always maintain a direct band gap under the influence of an electric field. While 60° is an indirect band gap, the structure exhibits high resistance to the electric field. Our results reveal that bilayer BP is a potential application prospect in photovoltaic and optoelectronic fields and can provide more insights into optoelectronic devices.

Background: Elderly patients frequently experience a high incidence of adverse drug events (ADEs) due to the coexistence of multiple diseases, the combination of various medications, poor medication compliance, and other factors. Global Trigger Tool (GTT) is a new method for identifying ADEs, introducing the concept of a trigger, that is, clues including abnormal laboratory values, reversal drugs, and clinical symptoms that may suggest ADEs, and specifically locating information related to ADEs in the medical record to identify ADEs. The aim of this study was to establish a GTT-based trigger tool for adverse medication events in elderly patients and to investigate the risk variables associated with such events. Methods: The triggers were identified by reviewing the frequency of ADEs in elderly patients in Sichuan, China, retrieving relevant literature, and consulting experts. A retrospective analysis was carried out to identify adverse medication occurrences among 480 elderly inpatients in Sichuan People's Hospital. Results: A total of 56 ADEs were detected in 51 patients (10.62%), 13.04 per 1,000 patient days, and 11.67 per 100 admissions. The overall positive predictive value (PPV) of the triggers was 23.84, and 94.64% of ADEs caused temporary injury. Gastrointestinal system injury (27.87%) and metabolic and nutritional disorders (24.53%) were the primary organ-systems affected by ADEs. The majority of ADEs were caused by drugs used to treat cardiovascular diseases. 71.43% of ADE occurred within 2 days of administration and the risk factor analysis of ADE revealed that the number of medicines had a significant correlation. Conclusion: This study demonstrated GTT's value as a tool for ADEs detection in elderly inpatients in China. It enhances the level of medication management and comprehensively reflects the situation of ADE of the elderly.

Traditional carbon materials such as graphene are often applied in the field of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption but they have unbalanced impedance matching and high conductivity. Bio-carbon with graphene-like structure derived from apples has many advantages over graphene: it can be prepared in large quantities and the abundant heteroatoms present in the lattice can provide many polarization phenomena. Herein, Prussian blue analogue (PBA) as a source of magnetic component was combined with bio-carbon or reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to study the EMW absorption properties. The fabricated BC/CFC-12-7 displayed performance with a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of -72.57 dB and a wide effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 5.25 GHz with an ultra-thin and nearly equal matching thickness at 1.61 mm. The results show that the good EMW absorption property of bio-carbon composites comes from good conduction loss, large relaxation polarization loss especially from pyridinic-N, and better impedance matching. The optimized radar cross section is found to be -33.55 dB m2 in the far-field condition using CST. This work explored the advantages of bio-carbon as a novel EMW absorbing material compared with graphene and provided ideas for realizing high-performance EMW absorbing materials in the future.

PURPOSE: To explore the mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance and search for prognostic biomarkers for prostate cancer. METHODS: The GSE192817 and TCGA PRAD datasets were selected and downloaded from the GEO and UCSC Xena databases. Differential expression and functional annotation analyses were applied to 52 tumour cell samples from GSE192817. Then, the ssGSEA or GSVA algorithms were applied to quantitatively score the biological functional activity of samples in the GSE192817 and TCGA PRAD datasets, combined with specific gene sets collected from the Molecular Signatures Database (MSigDB). Subsequently, the Wilcoxon rank-sum test was used to compare the differences in ssGSEA or GSVA scores among cell types or PRAD patients. Moreover, radiotherapy resistance-associated gene screening was performed on DU145 and PC3 cells (prostate cancer cells), and survival analysis was used to evaluate the efficacy of these genes for predicting the prognosis of PRAD patients. RESULTS: A total of 114 genes that were differentially expressed in more than two different cancer cell types and associated with either sham surgery or radiotherapy treatment (X-ray or photon irradiation) were detected in cancer cells from GSE192817. Comparison of DNA damage-related ssGSEA scores between sham surgery and radiotherapy treatment in prostate cancer cells (DU145 and PC3) showed that photon irradiation was potentially more effective than X-ray treatment. In the TCGA PRAD dataset, patients treated with radiotherapy had much higher "GOBP_CELLULAR_RESPONSE_TO_DNA_DAMAGE_STIMULUS", "GOBP_G2_DNA_DAMAGE_CHECKPOINT" and "GOBP_INTRA_S_DNA_DAMAGE_CHECKPOINT" GSVA scores, and the Wilcoxon rank-sum test p values were 0.0005, 0.0062 and 0.0800, respectively. Furthermore, SRXN1 was upregulated in DU145 cells (resistant to X-ray irradiation compared to PC3 cells) after radiotherapy treatment, and low SRXN1 expression in patients was beneficial to radiotherapy outcomes. The log-rank test p value for PFS was 0.0072. CONCLUSIONS: Radiotherapy can damage DNA and induce oxidative stress to kill tumour cells. In this study, we found that SRXN1, as an antioxidative stress gene, plays an important role in radiotherapy for prostate cancer treatment, and this gene is also a potential biomarker for predicting the prognosis of patients treated with radiotherapy.

BACKGROUND: 5-Fluorouracil (5-Fu) is one of the most commonly used chemotherapy drugs for gastric cancer (GC). But the increase of drug resistance makes the prognosis of patients worse. Studies have shown that Baicalin can not only inhibit various cancers but also increase the sensitivity of cancers to chemotherapy. However, how Baicalin works in chemotherapeutic resistance of GC are unclear. METHODS: CCK8 (Cell Counting Kit 8) was used to detect the IC50 (half maximal inhibitory concentration) of Baicalin and 5-Fu. Proliferation, migration, and invasion of GC were tested through colony formation assay and transwell assay. Fluorescent probes detected intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). RNA-seq (RNA sequencing) detected differentially expressed genes and pathways, and qPCR (Quantitative Real-time PCR) tested the expression of ferroptosis-related genes. RESULTS: The combination of Baicalin and 5-Fu inhibited GC progression and increased intracellular ROS levels. Both the inhibition of malignant phenotype of gastric cancer cells and the generation of intracellular ROS caused by Baicalin could be saved by the inhibitor of ferroptosis-Ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1). Heat map of enriched differentially expressed genes identified by RNA-seq included four ferroptosis-related genes, and subsequent GO (Gene Ontology) analysis suggested an association between the ferroptosis pathway and Baicalin treatment. The changes in expression of ferroptosis-related genes were validated by qPCR, and the result confirmed that the combination of Baicalin and 5-Fu promoted ferroptosis in GC. CONCLUSIONS: Baicalin inhibits GC and enhances 5-Fu by promoting ROS-related ferroptosis in GC.

Objective: The intent of this study was to investigate the relationship between oxidative stress and treatment response in gastric cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: Blood samples from 108 patients and 108 healthy subjects were collected, and all patients were enrolled in SOX chemotherapy. The patients received four cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Blood samples were collected to determine oxidative stress levels at baseline prior to beginning chemotherapy, and at the end of cycles 2 and 4. The patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy were followed up for several months to years. A survival curve was created according to the follow-up information from the patients. In addition, the correlation between oxidative stress level and treatment effect was evaluated and ROC curves were plotted according to the final collected data. Results: Compared with the normal group, the levels of the antioxidant index decreased while the peroxide index increased in the patients. Conversely, when patients were compared before and after chemotherapy, the antioxidant index increased but the peroxide index decreased. Furthermore, the antioxidant index increased in the response group while the peroxide index decreased in the non-response group. Conclusion: Patients with an increased antioxidant index after chemotherapy have good treatment responsiveness. These indicators can also be used as predictors to judge the patients' response to chemotherapy.

Background/Objective: Silage characteristics of grass materials directly affect their silage qualities. To expand the source of silage raw materials and develop mixed silages underlined by exploring the positive interactions between forage grasses and legumes, three gramineous grasses, Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum), king grass (Pennisetum sinese), and forage maize (Zea mays) were separately mixed ensiled with a combination of four forage legumes including Medicago sativa, Vicia villosa, Vicia sativa, and Trifolium repens. Methods: The chemical composition and fermentation quality of the mixed silages were analyzed and compared with those of the sole silages of these three grasses, as well as the diversity of microbial communities, through the 16S/ITS full-length sequencing. Results: The results showed that the inclusion of forage legumes could somewhat improve the fermentation quality, as indicated by significantly (p < 0.05) higher crude protein and lactic acid contents while lower neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber contents and pH values, compared with the sole silages. Among the three types of mixed silages, the mixed king grass had the highest dry matter and crude protein content as well as lowest neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber content. Meanwhile, the bacterial and fungal communities in the mixed silages were influenced by increased the relative abundance of lactic acid bacteria, which inhibited the proliferation of undesirable bacteria, such as Hafnia alvei, Enterobacter cloacae, and Serratia proteamaculanss. Co-occurrence networks identified 32 nodes with 164 positive and 18 negative correlations in bacteria and 80 nodes with two negative and 76 positive correlations in fungi during fermentation. Conclusion: Inclusion of forage legume to grasses can improve the fermentation quality and optimize the structure of microbial community, which appears to be a feasible strategy to enhance the forage resource utilization.

This study concerns the development of sustainable design strategies of aqueous electrolytes for redox flow batteries using redox-active organic materials. A green spontaneous grafting reaction occurs between a redox-active organic radical and an electrochemically activated structural modifier at room temperature through a simple mixing step. Then, a physical mixing method is used to formulate a structured aqueous electrolyte and enables aqueous solubilization of the organic solute from below 0.5 to 1.5 m beyond the conventional dissolution limit. The as-obtained concentrated mixture can be readily used as catholyte for a redox flow battery. A record high discharge cell voltage (1.6 V onset output voltage) in aqueous non-hybrid flow cell is attained by using the studied electrolytes.

Multidrug resistance is a primary factor in the poor response to chemotherapy and subsequent death in gastric cancer patients. However, the molecular mechanisms involved remain unclear. In this study, the high expression of special AT-rich sequence binding protein 1 (SATB1) in gastric cancer was found to be associated with reduced sensitivity to various chemotherapy drugs. Our results demonstrate that SATB1 can promote chemotherapy resistance in gastric cancer in vitro and in vivo. SATB1 exerts its effect by enhancing the activity of multiple ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters (P-glycoprotein, multidrug resistance-associated protein, and breast cancer resistance protein) in gastric cancer cell lines. We also found that SATB1 affects ABC transporters by altering the subcellular localization of the ABC transporter rather than its expression. Subsequently, we confirmed that Ezrin binds to various ABC transporters and affects their subcellular localization. In addition, we found that SATB1 can also bind to the Ezrin promoter and regulate its expression. In the present study, we elucidate the mechanism of SATB1-mediated multidrug resistance in gastric cancer, providing a basis for SATB1 as a potential target for reversal of resistance.

@#【Objective】  To explore the development and research hotspots on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnosis and predict research trends in the area. 【Methods】  All articles were retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data (Wanfang), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). All related papers published in journals from the foundation of the databases to December 31, 2022 were included. NoteExpress, Co-Occurrence(COOC), VOSviewer, and CiteSpace were used to visualize data about publication volumes, journals, authors, research institutions, and keywords as well as to analyze hotspots trending topics in the field. 【Results】  A total of 686 articles were retrieved from the databases, among which 610 papers were published in Chinese and 76 in English. In terms of the journals in which these papers were published, 238 of them were Chinese journals and 52 were English ones. The number of the papers published in journals presented a slow growth. According to the results from Chinese article analysis, WANG Yiqin from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine published the most papers in the field. The authors of Chinese papers belonged to six long-term research teams, led by WANG Yiqin and XU Jiatuo (Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine), WEI Yuke (Guangdong University of Technology), LI Gang (Tianjin University), XI Guangcheng (Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academ of Sciences), and NIU Xin (Beijing University of Chinese Medicine), respectively. In accordance with results from English paper analysis, four authors equally publishing the most papers were YAN Haixia, HU Xiaojuan, and JIANG Tao (Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine), and WEN Chuanbiao (Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine). The authors of English papers were from two major research teams in the field of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Currently, research hotspots on AI such as neural networks, data mining, machine learning, feature recognition, image processing, and expert systems, have been centered on tongue diagnosis, pulse diagnosis, and syndrome research in TCM. Additionally, it was found that research on the topic was gradually evolving from explorations of a single diagnosis method to investigations on the combination of multiple TCM diagnosis methods. 【Conclusion】  Research on AI application in TCM diagnosis is still in a slowly growing stage. As technology develops, AI has been applied to many aspects of TCM diagnosis. Therefore, how to combine the two for improving TCM diagnosis is something worthy of our brainstorming and exploring.

Chinese Herbal Medicines (CHMs) can be identified by experts according to their odors. However, the identification of these medicines is subjective and requires long-term experience. The samples of Acanthopanacis Cortex and Periplocae Cortex used were dried cortexes, which are often confused in the market due to their similar appearance, but their chemical composition and odor are different. The clinical use of the two herbs is different, but the phenomenon of being confused with each other often occurs. Therefore, we used an electronic nose (E-nose) to explore the differences in odor information between the two species for fast and robust discrimination, in order to provide a scientific basis for avoiding confusion and misuse in the process of production, circulation and clinical use. In this study, the odor and volatile components of these two medicinal materials were detected by the E-nose and by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), respectively. An E-nose combined with pattern analysis methods such as principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS) was used to discriminate the cortex samples. The E-nose was used to determine the odors of the samples and enable rapid differentiation of Acanthopanacis Cortex and Periplocae Cortex. GC-MS was utilized to reveal the differences between the volatile constituents of Acanthopanacis Cortex and Periplocae Cortex. In all, 82 components including 9 co-contained components were extracted by chromatographic peak integration and matching, and 24 constituents could be used as chemical markers to distinguish these two species. The E-nose detection technology is able to discriminate between Acanthopanacis Cortex and Periplocae Cortex, with GC-MS providing support to determine the material basis of the E-nose sensors' response. The proposed method is rapid, simple, eco-friendly and can successfully differentiate these two medicinal materials by their odors. It can be applied to quality control links such as online detection, and also provide reference for the establishment of other rapid detection methods. The further development and utilization of this technology is conducive to the further supervision of the quality of CHMs and the healthy development of the industry.

The two-dimensional heterostructures with type-II band alignment and super-high carrier mobility offer an updated perspective for photovoltaic devices. Here, based on the first-principles calculation, a novel vertical NGyne/GaSe heterostructure with an intrinsic type-II band alignment, super-high carrier mobility (104cm2V-1s-1), and strong visible to ultraviolet light absorption (104-105cm-1) is constructed. We investigate the electronic structure and the interfacial properties of the NGyne/GaSe heterostructure under electric field and strain. The band offsets and band gap of the NGyne/GaSe heterostructure can be regulated under applied vertical electric field and strain efficiently. Further study reveals that the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the NGyne/GaSe heterostructure is vastly improved under a negative electric field and reaches up to 25.09%. Meanwhile, near-free electron states are induced under a large applied electric field, leading to the NGyne/GaSe heterostructure transform from semiconductors to metal. Our results indicate that the NGyne/GaSe heterostructure will have extremely potential in optoelectronic devices, especially solar cells.

Introduction: Chemotherapy drug wasting is a huge problem in oncology that not only results in excessive expenses on chemotherapy drugs but also increases the cost of disposing of chemotherapy waste and the risk of occupational exposure in the environment. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the potential for hospitals in China to employ a real-time vial-sharing strategy that can save drug costs. Method: This study was conducted retrospectively at Pharmacy Intravenous Admixture Services (PIVAS), People's Hospital of Sichuan Province, China, from September to November 2021. Data on prescription drugs wasted were collected from the Hospital Information System (HIS). To assess the real-time vial-sharing strategy, we estimated drug wastage and drug waste costs using intelligent robots that dispense multiple prescriptions simultaneously. Results: 24 of the 46 wasted drugs were cost-saved. The vial-sharing strategy saved 186,067 mg of drugs, or ~59.08% of the total amount wasted, resulting in savings of 150,073.53 China Yuan (CNY), or 47.51% of the cost of the total waste. Conclusion: Our investigation established that employing a real-time vial-sharing strategy using an intelligent robot to dispense multiple prescriptions simultaneously is cost-effective. Additionally, this approach presented no safety issue concerns, such as the introduction of impurities to sterile compounding via repeated interspersing or the incorrect registration of information during drug storage, often encountered with traditional vial-sharing strategies.
