RESUMEN

Carbon nanomaterials are expected to be bright and efficient emitters, but structural disorder, intermolecular interactions and the intrinsic presence of dark states suppress their photoluminescence. Here, we study synthetically-made graphene nanoribbons with atomically precise edges and which are designed to suppress intermolecular interactions to demonstrate strong photoluminescence in both solutions and thin films. The resulting high spectral resolution reveals strong vibron-electron coupling from the radial-breathing-like mode of the ribbons. In addition, their cove-edge structure produces inter-valley mixing, which brightens conventionally-dark states to generate hitherto-unrecognised twilight states as predicted by theory. The coupling of these states to the nanoribbon phonon modes affects absorption and emission differently, suggesting a complex interaction with both Herzberg-Teller and Franck- Condon coupling present. Detailed understanding of the fundamental electronic processes governing the optical response will help the tailored chemical design of nanocarbon optical devices, via gap tuning and side-chain functionalisation.

RESUMEN

CircRNAs are a class of single-stranded RNAs characterized by covalently looped structures. Emerging advances have promoted our understanding of circRNA biogenesis, nuclear export, biological functions, and functional mechanisms. Roles of circRNAs in diverse diseases have been increasingly recognized in the past decade, with novel approaches in bioinformatics analysis and new strategies in modulating circRNA levels, which have made circRNAs the hot spot for therapeutic applications. Moreover, due to the intrinsic features of circRNAs such as high stability, conservation, and tissue-/stage-specific expression, circRNAs are believed to be promising prognostic and diagnostic markers for diseases. Aiming cardiovascular disease (CVD), one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, we briefly summarize the current understanding of circRNAs, provide the recent progress in circRNA functions and functional mechanisms in CVD, and discuss the future perspectives both in circRNA research and therapeutics based on existing knowledge.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Body mass index (BMI) is an important risk factor for hypertension in diabetic patients. However, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Although liver-derived biological intermediates may play irreplaceable roles in the pathophysiology of diabetes, few studies have explored them in the association between BMI and hypertension in diabetes. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of liver enzymes in mediating the relationship between BIM exposure and hypertension in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: We included a total of 1765 participants from the China National Diabetic Chronic Complications Study Cohort. Associations between liver enzymes and hypertension were estimated using multivariable regression models. The function of liver indicators in the relationship between BMI and hypertension was assessed using mediation analysis. Mediation analysis was conducted, taking into account age, diabetes duration, current smoking, fasting plasma glucose level, glycated hemoglobin, anti-diabetic therapy, and family history of diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and hyperlipidemia. RESULTS: For men, the association of BMI with hypertension was partially mediated by alanine aminotransferase (ALT), with a proportion of mediation was 68.67%, by aspartate aminotransferase (AST) was 27.02%, and by γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT) was 38.58%, by AST/ALT was 63.35%; for women, the proportion mediated by ALT was 36.93%, and by AST was 37.47%, and GGT was 44.60%, and AST/ALT was 43.73% for BMI (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The effect of BMI on hypertension is partly mediated by liver indicators (ALT, AST, GGT, and AST/ALT) in diabetic patients. Our results may provide opportunities to identify new targets for hypertension interventions.

RESUMEN

Cisplatin resistance is a major cause of therapeutic failure in patients with high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC). Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as key regulators of human cancers; however, their modes of action in HGSOC remain largely unknown. Here, we provide evidence to demonstrate that lncRNA Platinum sensitivity-related LncRNA from Ascites-Derived Exosomes (PLADE) transmitted by ascites exosomes enhance platinum sensitivity in HGSOC. PLADE exhibited significantly decreased expression in ascites exosomes and tumor tissues, as well as in the corresponding metastatic tumors from patients with HGSOC cisplatin-resistance. Moreover, HGSOC patients with higher PLADE expression levels exhibited longer progression-free survival. Gain- and loss-of-function studies have revealed that PLADE promotes cisplatin sensitivity by suppressing cell proliferation, migration and invasion, and enhancing apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, the functions of PLADE in increasing cisplatin sensitivity were proven to be transferred by exosomes to the cultured recipient cells and to the adjacent tumor tissues in mouse models. Mechanistically, PLADE binds to and downregulates heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein D (HNRNPD) by VHL-mediated ubiquitination, thus inducing an increased amount of RNA: DNA hybrids (R-loop) and DNA damage, consequently promoting cisplatin sensitivity in HGSOC. Collectively, these results shed light on the understanding of the vital roles of long noncoding RNAs in cancers.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Vaccine hesitancy is a primary factor that influences vaccine uptake; however, no specific measurement tool to accurately assess vaccine hesitancy is available in China. This study aimed to develop a general vaccine hesitancy scale for childhood immunization. METHODS: We adopted a three-phase process with nine steps to develop and finalize our scale. The scale framework and initial item pool were determined by a literature review. Expert consultation and cognitive interviews with parents were conducted to evaluate content validity. Questionnaire surveys involving parents of children aged <6 years were conducted to select items. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were employed to identify and validate the scale factor structure. The scale's reliability and validity were assessed using multiple indicators. RESULTS: Of the initial 38 items, 21 were retained after expert consultation and cognitive interviews. In survey 1, the number of scale items decreased to 16 following item analysis and EFA. In survey 2, four items were added and EFA identified four factors. In survey 3, CFA confirmed the four-factor structure and the reliability indicators were satisfactory for the total scale. The level of vaccine hesitancy assessed by our scale was positively associated with vaccination refusal behavior and the Vaccine Hesitancy Scale score. The final scale comprised four dimensions (confidence, complacency, convenience, and calculation) with 17 items. CONCLUSIONS: We developed a validated and reliable measurement to assess vaccine hesitancy among parents of children, which promises to be suitable for wide use in China.

RESUMEN

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) play an important role in regulating the development of human cancers through diverse biological functions. However, the exact molecular mechanisms underlying the role of circRNAs in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) remain largely unknown. Here, we found that hsa_circ_0011385, designated as circular eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit I (circEIF3I), preferentially localized in the cytoplasm of PTC cells and was more stable than its linear counterpart, EIF3I. Gain- and loss-of-function studies indicated that circEIF3I promoted PTC progression by facilitating cell proliferation, cell cycle, cell migration, and invasion in vitro, as well as PTC cell proliferation in vivo. Mechanistically, circEIF3I interacted with AU-rich element (ARE) RNA-binding factor 1 (AUF1) in the cytoplasm of PTC cells, thus reducing the degradation of Cyclin D1 mRNA and increasing Cyclin D1 protein production, ultimately resulting in PTC progression. Collectively, our results demonstrate the vital role of circEIF3I in PTC progression, supporting its significance as a potential therapeutic target.

RESUMEN

Structurally defined graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) have emerged as promising candidates for nanoelectronic devices. Low band gap (<1 eV) GNRs are particularly important when considering the Schottky barrier in device performance. Here, we demonstrate the first solution synthesis of 8-AGNRs through a carefully designed arylated polynaphthalene precursor. The efficiency of the oxidative cyclodehydrogenation of the tailor-made polymer precursor into 8-AGNRs was validated by FT-IR, Raman, and UV/Vis-near-infrared (NIR) absorption spectroscopy, and further supported by the synthesis of naphtho[1,2,3,4-ghi]perylene derivatives (1 and 2) as subunits of 8-AGNR, with a width of 0.86 nm as suggested by the X-ray single crystal analysis. Low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and solid-state NMR analyses provided further structural support for 8-AGNR. The resulting 8-AGNR exhibited a remarkable NIR absorption extending up to ∼2400 nm, corresponding to an optical band gap as low as ∼0.52 eV. Moreover, optical-pump TeraHertz-probe spectroscopy revealed charge-carrier mobility in the dc limit of ∼270 cm2  V-1 s-1 for the 8-AGNR.

RESUMEN

Objective: Our aim was to evaluate the association between midday napping, combined sleep quality, and insulin resistance surrogates and the risk of hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: Data were collected using a standardized questionnaire. Binary logistic regression was performed to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the risk of hypertension. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were grouped as categorical variables and unpaired two-sided Student's t-test and Spearman correlation analysis were performed to estimate the association between different blood pressure levels and insulin resistance surrogates. Results: The overall prevalence rate of hypertension was 50%. Age (OR = 1.056, 95% CI:1.044-1.068), poor sleep quality (OR = 1.959, 95% CI:1.393-2.755), hyperlipidemia (OR = 1.821, 95% CI:1.462-2.369), family history of hypertension (OR = 2.811, 95% CI:2.261-3.495), and obesity (OR = 5.515, 95% CI:1.384-21.971) were significantly associated with an increased risk of hypertension. Midday napping for 1-30 min was negatively correlated with the risk of hypertension (OR = 0.534, 95% CI:0.305-0.936, P <0.05). Conclusion: Poor sleep quality and obesity are independent risk factors for hypertension. Midday napping (1-30 min) is associated with a decreased risk of hypertension in patients with T2DM.

RESUMEN

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the accessibility of anticancer medicines in public hospitals of Shaanxi, a representative province of Northwestern China. Methods: Thirty-one anticancer medicines were investigated in 146 designated public hospitals in 10 cities of Shaanxi Province. We used medicine procurement data from the Shaanxi Drug Centralized Purchasing Platform during 2019-2021. Primary outcomes included the availability, drug utilization, and affordability of anticancer medicines. Results: The mean availability of 31 anticancer medicines increased significantly from 5.45% in 2019 to 14.72% in 2021. The mean availability of nationally negotiated medicines was significantly lower than that of Class B medicines (8.72% vs. 12.85%, p = 0.048), whilst the availability of injectable medicines was significantly greater than that of oral medicines (13.66% vs. 8.77%, p = 0.007). In 2019-2021, the annual mean amount purchased increased significantly from CNY 6.51 million to CNY 18.56 million (p = 0.007). The mean defined daily doses of 31 medicines significantly rose from 225.50 to 1019.50 (p = 0.008) whereas their defined daily drug cost significantly decreased from CNY 551.15 to CNY 404.50 (p < 0.001). The percentage of catastrophic health expenditure decreased from 71.0 to 51.65% and from 90.30 to 80.60% for urban and rural residents, respectively. The affordability of nationally negotiated medicines was significantly lower than that of Class B medicines (p = 0.032), and the affordability of injectable medicines had no significant difference compared to that of oral medicines (p = 0.124) for both urban and rural residents. Conclusion: The accessibility of anticancer medicines improved dramatically in public hospitals of Northwestern China during the period 2019-2021.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Adjuvanted recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) was the first vaccine made available for herpes zoster in China. Authors aimed to evaluate its economic and health impacts on Chinese adults aged ≥50 years. METHODS: A lifetime Markov model was developed to compare the cost-effectiveness of RZV with that of no vaccination from a societal perspective. Model inputs were derived from published literature and analyzed in 2022. Outcomes included total costs, quality-adjusted life-years, incremental cost-effectiveness ratio, and number of herpes zoster and herpes zoster-related cases. Sensitivity analyses were performed to examine the robustness of the model results. RESULTS: RZV was more costly than no vaccination by $2.78 billion with an additional 65,008 quality-adjusted life-years gained and could avoid 1,893,530 herpes zoster cases, 295,761 postherpetic neuralgia cases, 51,734 other complications, and 229 herpes zoster-related deaths. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios of RZV varied in a range of $34,465.5-$51,002.7 per quality-adjusted life-year. RZV for the entire cohort would be cost-effective when discount rate was <2.4%, a waning rate of 2-dose RZV efficacy decreased to <0.8%, the utility of postherpetic neuralgia was <0.496, duration of postherpetic neuralgia was >12.86 months, or the cost of RZV per dose decreased to <$229.6. In a probabilistic sensitivity analysis, the probability of RZV being cost-effective was 43.95%, 59.32%, 45.27%, and 39.50% for people aged 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and ≥80 years, respectively, with threefold gross domestic product per capita (37,654.5 per quality-adjusted life-year) as the willingness-to-pay threshold. CONCLUSIONS: RZV was most likely to be cost-effective in people aged 60-69 years. A slight decrease in vaccine cost would result in RZV being cost-effective in all people aged ≥50 years.

RESUMEN

Background: The purpose of the study was to evaluate characteristics and risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) according to age at diagnosis and disease duration among adults with diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods: The association between age at diagnosis, diabetes duration and CVD were examined in 1,765 patients with DM. High risk of estimated ten-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) was performed by the Prediction for ASCVD Risk in China (China-PAR) project. Data were compared with analysis of variance and χ2 test, respectively. Multiple logistic regression was used to determine the risk factors of CVD. Results: The mean age at diagnosis (± standard deviation) was 52.91 ± 10.25 years and diabetes duration was 8.06 ± 5.66 years. Subjects were divided into early-onset DM group (≤43 years), late-onset DM group (44 to 59 years), elderly-onset DM group (≥60 years) according to age at diagnosis. Diabetes duration was classified by 5 years. Both early-onset and longest diabetes duration (>15 years) had prominent hyperglycaemia. Diabetes duration was associated with the risk of ischemic stroke (odds ratio (OR), 1.091) and coronary artery disease (OR, 1.080). Early-onset group (OR, 2.323), and late-onset group (OR, 5.199), and hypertension (OR, 2.729) were associated with the risk of ischemic stroke. Late-onset group (OR, 5.001), disease duration (OR, 1.080), and hypertension (OR, 2.015) and hyperlipidemia (OR, 1.527) might increase the risk of coronary artery disease. Aged over 65 (OR, 10.192), central obesity (OR, 1.992), hypertension (OR, 18.816), cardiovascular drugs (OR, 5.184), antihypertensive drugs (OR, 2.780), and participants with disease duration >15 years (OR, 1.976) were associated with the high risk of estimated ten-year ASCVD in participants with DM. Conclusion: Age at diagnosis, diabetes duration, hypertension and hyperlipidemia were independent risks of CVD. Longest (>15 years) diabetes duration increased the high risk of ten-year ASCVD prediction among Chinese patients with DM. It's urgent to emphasize the importance of age at diagnosis and diabetes duration to improve primary complication of diabetes.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Authors aimed to evaluate the economic and health impacts of three influenza vaccines available in China, including trivalent inactivated vaccine, quadrivalent inactivated vaccine, and live attenuated influenza vaccine, for children aged six months to 18 years. METHODS: Two decision-analytic models were developed to simulate four vaccination strategies. Outcomes included total costs from a societal perspective in 2021, quality-adjusted life-year loss, numbers of outpatient and inpatient cases, and deaths avoided using each strategy. Deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed to examine the uncertainty of model inputs. RESULTS: For children aged six months to three years, trivalent inactivated vaccine saved $48 million and avoided a loss of 17,637 quality-adjusted life-years compared with no vaccination. For children aged 3-18 years, quadrivalent inactivated vaccine was cost-effective compared with trivalent inactivated vaccine, with an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of $32,948.5/quality-adjusted life-year (willingness-to-pay threshold=$37,653/quality-adjusted life-year), which was sensitive to the RR of vaccine effectiveness of quadrivalent inactivated vaccine versus of trivalent inactivated vaccine. When compared with quadrivalent inactivated vaccine, live attenuated influenza vaccine was $1.28 billion more costly but gained an additional 13,560 quality-adjusted life-years; its incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was $123,983.8/quality-adjusted life-year. Live attenuated influenza vaccine would be cost-effective if its vaccine effectiveness was >0.79. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis revealed that quadrivalent inactivated vaccine, trivalent inactivated vaccine, live attenuated influenza vaccine, and no vaccination were cost-effective in 55.94%, 33.09%, 10.97%, and 0% of 10,000 Monte Carlo simulations. CONCLUSIONS: Trivalent inactivated vaccine was cost-effective compared with no vaccination in children aged six months to 18 years. Of the three vaccination strategies for children aged 3-18 months, quadrivalent inactivated vaccine appears to be the most cost-effective.

RESUMEN

The design of open-shell carbon-based nanomaterials is at the vanguard of materials science, steered by their beneficial magnetic properties like weaker spin-orbit coupling than that of transition metal atoms and larger spin delocalization, which are of potential relevance for future spintronics and quantum technologies. A key parameter in magnetic materials is the magnetic exchange coupling (MEC) between unpaired spins, which should be large enough to allow device operation at practical temperatures. In this work, we theoretically and experimentally explore three distinct families of nanographenes (NGs) (A, B, and C) featuring majority zigzag peripheries. Through many-body calculations, we identify a transition from a closed-shell ground state to an open-shell ground state upon an increase of the molecular size. Our predictions indicate that the largest MEC for open-shell NGs occurs in proximity to the transition between closed-shell and open-shell states. Such predictions are corroborated by the on-surface syntheses and structural, electronic, and magnetic characterizations of three NGs (A[3,5], B[4,5], and C[4,3]), which are the smallest open-shell systems in their respective chemical families and are thus located the closest to the transition boundary. Notably, two of the NGs (B[4,5] and C[4,3]) feature record values of MEC (close to 200 meV) measured on the Au(111) surface. Our strategy for maximizing the MEC provides perspectives for designing carbon nanomaterials with robust magnetic ground states.

RESUMEN

Designers search for memories and retrieve appropriate mental information during design brainstorming. The specific contents of retrieved memories can serve as stimuli for new ideas, or act as barriers to innovation. These contents can be divided into different categories, which are reflected in designers' creativities, and derived from individual lives and design experiences. Appropriate categorization of retrieved memory exemplars remains a fundamental research issue. This study tentatively divided retrieved memory exemplars into eight categories from brainstorming on the topic of library desk and chair design. A verification questionnaire was performed and validated the accuracy of categorization. The categorization result could be applied to design education in terms of understanding students' design performances and capabilities.

RESUMEN

Solution-synthesized graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) facilitate various interesting structures and functionalities, like nonplanarity and thermolabile functional groups, that are not or not easily accessible by on-surface synthesis. Here, we show the successful high-vacuum electrospray deposition (HVESD) of well-elongated solution-synthesized GNRs on surfaces maintained in ultrahigh vacuum. We compare three distinct GNRs, a twisted nonplanar fjord-edged GNR, a methoxy-functionalized "cove"-type (or also called gulf) GNR, and a longer "cove"-type GNR both equipped with alkyl chains on Au(111). Nc-AFM measurements at room temperature with submolecular imaging combined with Raman spectroscopy allow us to characterize individual GNRs and confirm their chemical integrity. The fjord-GNR and methoxy-GNR are additionally deposited on nonmetallic HOPG and SiO2, and fjord-GNR is deposited on a KBr(001) surface, facilitating the study of GNRs on substrates, as of now not accessible by on-surface synthesis.

RESUMEN

Introduction: The biomedical industry has grown significantly both globally and in China; however, there are still challenges. This study aimed at evaluating the biopharmaceutical sector of China, in terms of ability to innovate, current sales volume, investment, and R&D expenditure, as well as providing a case study detailing the progress and challenges of the industry in Shaanxi province. Method: A cross-sectional mixed-method study design was used to generate a comprehensive profile of the nature of biopharmaceutical innovation capacity and development in China by triangulating country-wide survey and interview data from Shaanxi province. Only biopharmaceutical companies that are currently marketing or conducting research and development were eligible for inclusion, and Shaanxi province was selected for conducting the interviews. Categorical and continuous variables were analyzed descriptively. Interviews were thematically analyzed by using NVivo version 12. Results: The analysis includes responses from 77 biopharmaceutical enterprises; the majority (36, 46.8%) are in Eastern China, followed by 26 (33.8%) in Central China. In 2018, the total sales of biological products amounted to 26.28 billion yuan, and in 2019, a slight increase was observed (30.34 billion); the amount doubled in 2020 to about 67.91 billion yuan. The top three biopharmaceutical products on sale in 2020 were Camrelizumab (5.14 billion yuan), human albumin (4.56 billion yuan), and human immunoglobulin for injection (3.78 billion yuan). Expenditure on R&D has also increased; it amounted to 1657.7 million yuan in 2018, which more than doubled in 2019 to 3572.1 million yuan and further increased to 5857.7 million yuan in 2020. Nonetheless, the progress is not uniform across all provinces, as shown from the results from Shaanxi province, because of lack of local government policies that will impact on the funding, incentives, and market share that motivate the producers. Conclusion: China's biopharmaceutical industry has expand significantly. The increase in sales indicates that there is an increase in demand for biologicals; moreover, R&D funding is increasing. These are key indicators that influence innovation and development. However, the sector's capacity to innovate and develop needs to be improved, particularly in the western region, where research and production are relatively weak.

RESUMEN

Background: Increasing evidence has shown that elevated Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) levels are positively correlated with atherosclerosis (ATH) in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH). Some researchers found that the dysfunction of Endothelial Cells (ECs) in SCH plays an important role in the pathogenesis of ATH in SCH, but the association remains controversial. Objectives: To determine the expression profiles of serum microRNAs critical to the function of Endothelial cells (ECs) may help reanalyze the possible mechanism underlying ATH in SCH and the association between ATH and SCH. Methods: We used qRT-PCR to perform microRNA profiling and analysis in normal control subjects (NC), patients with SCH alone (SCH), patients with SCH and ATH (SCH+ATH), and patients with ATH without SCH (ATH). Results: Both miR-221-3p and miR-222-3p showed a decreasing expression trend between the SCH and SCH+ATH groups. In addition, miR-126-3p and miR-150-5p showed a stepwise decrease from the NC to SCH groups and then to the SCH+ATH or ATH group. miR-21-5p was unregulated in the SCH, SCH+ATH, and ATH groups. Furthermore, elevated levels of miR-21-5p in SCH+ATH group were higher than SCH and ATH group. No differences were found in the levels of miR-150, miR-126, miR-221 and miR-222 between the ATH and the SCH+ATH subjects. Conclusions: miR-21-5p may be involved in the atherosclerosis process in patients with SCH (SCH and SCH+ATH groups). miR-150-5p may be sensitive risk markers for predicting endothelial dysfunction in patients with ATH (ATH and SCH+ATH groups).

RESUMEN

Thyroid cancer (TC) is the leading cause and mortality of endocrine malignancies worldwide. Tumourigenesis involves multiple molecules including circular RNAs (circRNAs). circRNAs with covalently closed single-stranded structures have been identified as a type of regulatory RNA because of their high stability, abundance, and tissue/developmental stage-specific expression. Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that various circRNAs are aberrantly expressed in thyroid tissues, cells, exosomes, and body fluids in patients with TC. CircRNAs have been identified as either oncogenic or tumour suppressor roles in regulating tumourigenesis, tumour metabolism, metastasis, ferroptosis, and chemoradiation resistance in TC. Importantly, circRNAs exert pivotal effects on TC through various mechanisms, including acting as miRNA sponges or decoys, interacting with RNA-binding proteins, and translating functional peptides. Recent studies have suggested that many different circRNAs are associated with certain clinicopathological features, implying that the altered expression of circRNAs may be characteristic of TC. The purpose of this review is to provide an overview of recent advances on the dysregulation, functions, molecular mechanisms and potential clinical applications of circRNAs in TC. This review also aimes to improve our understanding of the functions of circRNAs in the initiation and progression of cancer, and to discuss the future perspectives on strategies targeting circRNAs in TC.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Influenza vaccination coverage rate among the elderly is low in China. We aimed to evaluate the impact of video-led educational intervention on influenza vaccine uptake among the Chinese elderly. METHODS: A randomized controlled trial was conducted in 8 communities of Xi'an, a representative city in western China. Elderly aged over 60 years were randomized to the control group and intervention group (12-minute video education on influenza and its vaccination). Participants' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of influenza was assessed by using a questionnaire survey before and after the intervention. The primary outcomes were participants' willingness to get influenza vaccinated and their actual uptake rates in the 2020-21 flu season. Secondary outcomes were the variations of pre- and post-intervention KAP scores. Intention-to-treat analysis was performed to analyze the data, and sensitivity analyses were conducted to examine the robustness of the results. RESULTS: A total of 350 people were enrolled, with 175 individuals for each group. Participants in the intervention group were more willing to receive influenza vaccination than those in the control group (64.6% vs. 51.4%, p<0.05). The influenza vaccination uptake rate occurred in 10.3% of participants in the intervention group and 3.4% in the control group (odds ratio, 3.23; 95% CI 1.25-8.32, p<0.001). The post-intervention KAP scores in the intervention group were significantly higher compared to those in the control group (p<0.001). CONCLUSION: Video-led education was an effective and feasible approach to improve old people's willingness and uptake of influenza vaccination in western China.

RESUMEN

The influenza vaccination coverage among children is low in China. We aimed to conduct a nationwide survey to quantify parental preferences and willingness to pay (WTP) for influenza vaccination for their children. Parents with children aged six months to 18 years from six provinces in China were investigated by a discrete choice experiment regarding six influenza vaccination attributes. Mixed logit models were used to estimate the relative importance of vaccine attributes and parents' WTP. Interaction analysis and subgroup analysis were conducted to explore preference heterogeneity. A total of 1206 parents were included in the analysis. Parents reported vaccine effectiveness as the most important vaccine attribute. The mode of vaccine administration had no significant impact on parents' preferences. Parents aged over 30 years with higher education or income levels were more likely to prefer no influenza vaccination for their children. The largest marginal WTP (CNY 802.57) for vaccination and the largest increase in vaccine uptake (41.85%) occurred with improved vaccine effectiveness from 30% to 80%. Parents from central regions or mid-latitude areas had a relatively lower WTP than those from other regions. No significant difference in the relative importance of vaccine attributes were observed among parents from various regions of China.
