When using end shield shearer to recover end slope coal resources, the stability of the overlying rock slope of the end slope is controlled by leaving coal pillars. Due to the influence of the self weight of the overlying rock layer, the coal pillar will be subjected to eccentric loads, and the influence of eccentric loads needs to be considered in the design of the coal pillar size. With the help of PFC discrete element software, uniaxial compression tests were carried out on coal sample containing hole defects under different degrees of eccentric loads based on the calibration of micro mechanical parameters. The results show that the peak stress, cracking stress and dilatancy stress of coal sample decrease in a linear function law with the increase of load eccentricity coefficient. The evolution of the number of microscopic cracks during uniaxial compression under eccentric load can be divided into four stages: the calm stage before crack initiation I, the stable propagation stage II, the unstable propagation and penetration stage III, and the post failure stage IV. The distribution of macroscopic cracks is jointly influenced by the relative position of the loading area and the hole defect. When the hole defect is within the loading area, the hole plays a guiding role in the evolution of coal sample cracks, and the macroscopic crack runs through the edge of the loading area and the hole. When the hole defect is located outside the loading zone, the degree of eccentric load is large, weakening the guiding effect of the hole defect on the crack, and the macroscopic crack does not pass through the hole defect.

We report new experimental results on exotic spin-spin-velocity-dependent interactions between electron spins. We designed an elaborate setup that is equipped with two nitrogen-vacancy (NV) ensembles in diamonds. One of the NV ensembles serves as the spin source, while the other functions as the spin sensor. By coherently manipulating the quantum states of two NV ensembles and their relative velocity at the micrometer scale, we are able to scrutinize exotic spin-spin-velocity-dependent interactions at short force ranges. For a T-violating interaction, V_{6}, new limits on the corresponding coupling coefficient, f_{6}, have been established for the force range shorter than 1 cm. For a P,T-violating interaction, V_{14}, new constraints on the corresponding coupling coefficient, f_{14}, have been obtained for the force range shorter than 1 km.

The Chinese tree shrew ( Tupaia belangeri chinensis) has emerged as a promising model for investigating adrenal steroid synthesis, but it is unclear whether the same cells produce steroid hormones and whether their production is regulated in the same way as in humans. Here, we comprehensively mapped the cell types and pathways of steroid metabolism in the adrenal gland of Chinese tree shrews using single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptome analysis, mass spectrometry, and immunohistochemistry. We compared the transcriptomes of various adrenal cell types across tree shrews, humans, macaques, and mice. Results showed that tree shrew adrenal glands expressed many of the same key enzymes for steroid synthesis as humans, including CYP11B2, CYP11B1, CYB5A, and CHGA. Biochemical analysis confirmed the production of aldosterone, cortisol, and dehydroepiandrosterone but not dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate in the tree shrew adrenal glands. Furthermore, genes in adrenal cell types in tree shrews were correlated with genetic risk factors for polycystic ovary syndrome, primary aldosteronism, hypertension, and related disorders in humans based on genome-wide association studies. Overall, this study suggests that the adrenal glands of Chinese tree shrews may consist of closely related cell populations with functional similarity to those of the human adrenal gland. Our comprehensive results (publicly available at http://gxmujyzmolab.cn:16245/scAGMap/) should facilitate the advancement of this animal model for the investigation of adrenal gland disorders.

Ovarian cancer is a common, highly lethal tumor. Herein, we reported that S-phase kinase-associated protein 2 (Skp2) is essential for the growth and aerobic glycolysis of ovarian cancer cells. Skp2 was upregulated in ovarian cancer tissues and associated with poor clinical outcomes. Using a customized natural product library screening, we found that xanthohumol inhibited aerobic glycolysis and cell viability of ovarian cancer cells. Xanthohumol facilitated the interaction between E3 ligase Cdh1 and Skp2 and promoted the Ub-K48-linked polyubiquitination of Skp2 and degradation. Cdh1 depletion reversed xanthohumol-induced Skp2 downregulation, enhancing HK2 expression and glycolysis in ovarian cancer cells. Finally, a xenograft tumor model was employed to examine the antitumor efficacy of xanthohumol in vivo. Collectively, we discovered that xanthohumol promotes the binding between Skp2 and Cdh1 to suppress the Skp2/AKT/HK2 signal pathway and exhibits potential antitumor activity for ovarian cancer cells.

Designing efficient, inexpensive, and stable photocatalysts to degrade organic pollutants and antibiotics has become an effective way for environmental remediation. In this work, we successfully performed in situ growth of CdS QDs on the surface of elliptical BiVO4 to try to show the advantage of the binary heterojuncted photocatalyst (BVO@CdS) for the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline (TC). The In situ growth of CdS QDs can provide a large number of reactive sites and also generate a larger contact area with BiVO4. In addition, compared with mechanical composite materials, in situ growth can significantly reduce the energy barrier at the interface between BiVO4 and CdS, providing more channels for the separation and migration of photogenerated charge carriers, and further improving reaction activity. As a result, BVO@CdS-0.05 shows the best degradation efficiency, with a degradation rate of 88% after 30 min under visible light. The TC photodegradation follows a pseudo-second-order reaction with a dynamic constant of 0.472 min-1, which is 6.47 times that of pure BiVO4, 7.24 times that of pure CdS QDs and 2 times that of the mechanical composite. The degradation rate of BVO@CdS-0.05 decreases to 77.8% with a retention rate of 88.5% after four cycles, demonstrating excellent stability. Through liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis, two possible pathways for TC degradation are proposed. Through free radical capture experiments, electron spin resonance measurements, and photoelectrochemical comprehensive analysis, it is confirmed that BVO@CdS composites have constructed an efficient Z-scheme heterojunction via in situ growth, thereby highly enhancing the separation and transport efficiency of charge carriers.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical efficacy of fire acupuncture (FA) on plaque psoriasis (PP), exploring its suitable syndrome types, in order to achieve better therapeutic effects, accelerate the possibility of psoriasis skin lesion recovery, and provide assistance for clinical treatment. METHODS: A total of 8 patients with PP aged between 18 and 60 years were recruited and treated with FA once a week, and the lesion area and severity index (PASI), visual analog scale and pruritus were measured before, 2, 4 and 8 weeks after treatment and at the follow-up period (week 12), respectively. Visual analog scale, and dermoscopy were used for assessment. RESULTS: All patients showed improvement in pruritus after 1 FA treatment, and lesions were reduced to varying degrees after 2 weeks. Except for patients 5 and 8, who only achieved effective results due to severe disease, all other patients with psoriasis achieved significant results at 8 weeks after treatment. CONCLUSION: FA can significantly control the development of lesions, reduce the symptoms of PP lesions and pruritus, and help prevent psoriasis recurrence.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly fatal disease with limited effective treatment especially after first-line chemotherapy. The human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) immunohistochemistry (IHC) positive is associated with more aggressive clinical behavior and shorter overall survival in PDAC. CASE SUMMARY: We present a case of multiple metastatic PDAC with IHC mismatch repair proficient but HER-2 IHC weakly positive at diagnosis that didn't have tumor regression after first-line nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine and PD-1 inhibitor treatment. A novel combination therapy PRaG 3.0 of RC48 (HER2-antibody-drug conjugate), radiotherapy, PD-1 inhibitor, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and interleukin-2 was then applied as second-line therapy and the patient had confirmed good partial response with progress-free-survival of 6.5 months and overall survival of 14.2 month. She had not developed any grade 2 or above treatment-related adverse events at any point. Percentage of peripheral CD8+Temra and CD4+Temra were increased during first two activation cycles of PRaG 3.0 treatment containing radiotherapy but deceased to the baseline during the maintenance cycles containing no radiotherapy. CONCLUSION: PRaG 3.0 might be a novel strategy for HER2-positive metastatic PDAC patients who failed from previous first-line approach and even PD-1 immunotherapy but needs more data in prospective trials.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is a rather common malignant tumor. Most patients with hepatocellular carcinoma receive their diagnosis at an advanced stage, at which surgical resection is no longer appropriate. A growing body of research has demonstrated the value of convention therapy for patients with intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma, while specific application protocols and treatment guidelines are not well developed. Emerging clinical researches suggest that a tyrosine kinase inhibitor in combination with an immune checkpoint inhibitor is a reasonable strategy for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. However, there are relatively few reports on the efficacy of apatinib and camrelizumab in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. We were able to successfully remove one patient's hepatocellular carcinoma after 8 cycles of conversion therapy with apatinib (250 mg orally every day) and camrelizumab (200 mg intravenously every 2 weeks). The patient continued to receive the same dose of 16 cycles of apatinib and camrelizumab after hepatectomy. By the time of this study, the patient has completed 18 months of follow-up, and no tumor recurrence or metastasis was found in tumor markers and imaging examinations. Apatinib in combination with camrelizumab is an effective therapy for the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, and surgical resection after this conversion therapy may provide patients with long-term oncological benefits. However, this requires more samples to validate the conclusion.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of parameters of every precordial lead and their combinations in differentiating between idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias (IVAs) from the right ventricular outflow tract and aortic sinus of Valsalva (ASV). METHODS AND RESULTS: Between March 1, 2018, and December 1, 2021, consecutive patients receiving successful ablation of right ventricular outflow tract or ASV IVAs were enrolled. The amplitude and duration of the R wave and S wave were measured in every precordial lead during IVAs. These parameters were either summed, subtracted, multiplied, or divided to create different indexes. The index with the highest area under the curve to predict ASV IVAs was developed, compared with established indexes, and validated in an independent prospective multicenter cohort. A total of 150 patients (60 men; mean age, 45.3±16.4 years) were included in the derivation cohort. The RV1+RV3 index (summed R-wave amplitude in leads V1 and V3) had the highest area under the curve (0.942) among the established indexes. An RV1+RV3 index >1.3 mV could predict ASV IVAs with a sensitivity of 95% and a specificity of 83%. Its predictive performance was maintained in the validation cohort (N=109). In patients with V3 R/S transition, an RV1+RV3 index >1.3 mV could predict ASV IVAs, with an area under the curve of 0.892, 93% sensitivity, and 75% specificity. CONCLUSIONS: The RV1+RV3 index is a simple and novel criterion that accurately differentiates between right ventricular outflow tract and ASV IVAs. Its performance outperformed established indexes, making it a valuable tool in clinical practice.

Immunosuppression increases the risk of nosocomial infection in patients with chronic critical illness. This exploratory study aimed to determine the immunometabolic signature associated with nosocomial infection during chronic critical illness. We prospectively recruited patients who were admitted to the respiratory care center and who had received mechanical ventilator support for more than 10 days in the intensive care unit. The study subjects were followed for the occurrence of nosocomial infection until 6 weeks after admission, hospital discharge, or death. The cytokine levels in the plasma samples were measured. Single-cell immunometabolic regulome profiling by mass cytometry, which analyzed 16 metabolic regulators in 21 immune subsets, was performed to identify immunometabolic features associated with the risk of nosocomial infection. During the study period, 37 patients were enrolled, and 16 patients (43.2%) developed nosocomial infection. Unsupervised immunologic clustering using multidimensional scaling and logistic regression analyses revealed that expression of nuclear respiratory factor 1 (NRF1) and carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1a (CPT1a), key regulators of mitochondrial biogenesis and fatty acid transport, respectively, in natural killer (NK) cells was significantly associated with nosocomial infection. Downregulated NRF1 and upregulated CPT1a were found in all subsets of NK cells from patients who developed a nosocomial infection. The risk of nosocomial infection is significantly correlated with the predictive score developed by selecting NK cell-specific features using an elastic net algorithm. Findings were further examined in an independent cohort of COVID-19-infected patients, and the results confirm that COVID-19-related mortality is significantly associated with mitochondria biogenesis and fatty acid oxidation pathways in NK cells. In conclusion, this study uncovers that NK cell-specific immunometabolic features are significantly associated with the occurrence and fatal outcomes of infection in critically ill population, and provides mechanistic insights into NK cell-specific immunity against microbial invasion in critical illness.

One of the independent risk factors for atrial fibrillation is diabetes mellitus (DM); however, the underlying mechanisms causing atrial fibrillation in DM are unknown. The underlying mechanism of Atrogin-1-mediated SK2 degradation and associated signaling pathways are unclear. The aim of this study was to elucidate the relationship among reactive oxygen species (ROS), the NF-κB signaling pathway, and Atrogin-1 protein expression in the atrial myocardia of DM mice. We found that SK2 expression was downregulated comitant with increased ROS generation and enhanced NF-κB signaling activation in the atrial cardiomyocytes of DM mice. These observations were mimicked by exogenously applicating H2O2 and by high glucose culture conditions in HL-1 cells. Inhibition of ROS production by diphenyleneiodonium chloride or silencing of NF-κB by siRNA decreased the protein expression of NF-κB and Atrogin-1 and increased that of SK2 in HL-1 cells with high glucose culture. Moreover, chromatin immunoprecipitation assay demonstrated that NF-κB/p65 directly binds to the promoter of the FBXO32 gene (encoding Atrogin-1), regulating the FBXO32 transcription. Finally, we evaluated the therapeutic effects of curcumin, known as a NF-κB inhibitor, on Atrogin-1 and SK2 expression in DM mice and confirmed that oral administration of curcumin for 4 weeks significantly suppressed Atrogin-1 expression and protected SK2 expression against hyperglycemia. In summary, the results from this study indicated that the ROS/NF-κB signaling pathway participates in Atrogin-1-mediated SK2 regulation in the atria of streptozotocin-induced DM mice.

Background: Post mastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) is an independent predictor of reconstructive complications. PMRT may alter the timing and type of reconstruction recommended. This study aimed to create a machine learning model to predict the probability of requiring PMRT after immediate breast reconstruction (IBR). Methods: In this retrospective study, breast cancer patients who underwent IBR from January 2017 to December 2020 were reviewed and data were collected on 81 preoperative characteristics. Primary outcome was recommendation for PMRT. Four algorithms were compared to maximize performance and clinical utility: logistic regression, elastic net (EN), logistic lasso, and random forest (RF). The cohort was split into a development dataset (75% of cohort for training-validation) and 25% used for the test set. Model performance was evaluated using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), precision-recall curves, and calibration plots. Results: In a total of 800 patients, 325 (40.6%) patients were recommended to undergo PMRT. With the training-validation dataset (n = 600), model performance was logistic regression 0.73 AUC [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.65-0.80]; RF 0.77 AUC (95% CI, 0.74-0.81); EN 0.77 AUC (95% CI, 0.73-0.81); logistic lasso 0.76 AUC (95% CI, 0.72-0.80). Without significantly sacrificing performance, 81 predictive factors were reduced to 12 for prediction with the EN method. With the test dataset (n = 200), performance of the EN prediction model was confirmed [0.794 AUC (95% CI, 0.730-0.858)]. Conclusion: A parsimonious accurate machine learning model for predicting PMRT after IBR was developed, tested, and translated into a clinically applicable online calculator for providers and patients.

BACKGROUND: Medication adherence and the management of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are crucial to the efficacy of antitumor drugs. A WeChat applet, also known as a "Mini Program," is similar to the app but has marked advantages. The development and use of a WeChat applet makes follow-up convenient for patients with cancer. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the usability and utility of a newly developed WeChat applet, "DolphinCare," among patients with cancer in Shanghai. METHODS: A qualitative methodology was used to obtain an in-depth understanding of the experiences of patients with cancer when using DolphinCare from the usability and utility aspects. The development phase consisted of 2 parts: alpha and beta testing. Alpha testing combined the theory of the Fogg Behavior Model and the usability model. Alpha testing also involved testing the design of DolphinCare using a conceptual framework, which included factors that could affect medication adherence and ADRs. Beta testing was conducted using in-depth interviews. In-depth interviews allowed us to assist the patients in using DolphinCare and understand whether they liked or disliked DolphinCare and found it useful. RESULTS: We included participants who had an eHealth Literacy Scale (eHEALS) score of ≥50%, and a total of 20 participants were interviewed consecutively. The key positive motivators described by interviewers were to be reminded to take their medications and to alleviate their ADRs. The majority of the patients were able to activate and use DolphinCare by themselves. Most patients indicated that their trigger to follow-up DolphinCare was the recommendation of their known and trusted health care professionals. All participants found that labels containing the generic names of their medication and the medication reminders were useful, including timed pop-up push notifications and text alerts. The applet presented the corresponding information collection forms of ADRs to the patient to fill out. The web-based consultation system enables patients to consult pharmacists or physicians in time when they have doubts about medications or have ADRs. The applet had usabilities and utilities that could improve medication adherence and the management of ADRs among patients with cancer. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides preliminary evidence regarding the usability and utility of this type of WeChat applet among patients with cancer, which is expected to be promoted for managing follow-up among other patients with other chronic disease.

Nitrite and microplastics (MPs) are environmental pollutants that threaten intestinal integrity and affect immune function of shrimp. In this study, the shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei were exposed to the individual and combined stress of nitrite and microplastics for 14 days, and the changes of intestinal histology and physiological functions were investigated. After single and combined stress, affectations occurred in intestinal tissue; the antioxidant enzyme activities (MDA, H2O2, CAT increased) and gene expression levels (CAT, SOD, GPx, HSP70 up-regulated) changed. The expression levels of detoxification genes (CYP450, UGT down-regulated, GST up-regulated), apoptosis genes (CASP-3 up-regulated) and endoplasmic reticulum stress genes (Bip, GRP94 down-regulated) changed. Furthermore, the stress also increased intestinal microbial diversity, causing bacterial composition variation, especially beneficial bacteria and pathogenic bacteria. These results suggested that nitrite and microplastics stress had adverse effects on the intestinal health of L. vannamei by affecting intestinal tissue morphology, immune response and microbial community.

To achieve integrated resource utilization of graphite tailings to improve their water-holding capacity, river silt and cow dung powder were added to graphite tailings as organic matter improvers. Improver ratios were designed using 4 g cow dung powder and 20, 30, and 50 g river silt. Soil-water characterization tests were performed using a combined tensiometer and filter paper method based on optimum density measurements. Analysis of the influence of river silt dosing on the soil-water characteristic curves of improved graphite tailing specimens was performed with data fitting using the Van Genuchten model. Here, we investigated the effect of river silt dosing on the internal pore structure and water-holding capacity of modified graphite tailing samples and verified the applicability of the model to graphite tailings. Our results demonstrate that the organic matter improver incorporated into graphite tailings can improve the internal structural compactness of graphite tailings, improving the water holding capacity. With an increase in river silt dosage, the saturated water content is larger, and the residual water content increases and then decreases. When river silt dosage is 30 g, the residual water content is the highest at a value of 3.32%. The van Genuchten model was highly accurate for assessing the graphite tailings. With an increase in river silt doping, the internal pore space first decreased and then increased, and the internal structure gradually became compact and loosened. The internal structure was in the optimal state in the experimental study when the dosage of cow dung powder was 4 g and the dosage of river silt was 30 g. The water holding capacity was optimal at this time. The results of this study provide a theoretical foundation for graphite-tailing-based mine reclamation and play a guiding role in exploring the value of the hydraulic characteristic index parameters when applying graphite tailings engineering.

Background: To construct an effective prognostic index to predict overall survival (OS) and triplet regimen efficacy for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) patients treated with platinum-based and fluorouracil-based chemotherapy. Objectives: Between 2011 and 2021, 679 patients from two randomized phase III trials and one phase II trial were enrolled. Designs: We collected 11 baseline clinicopathological and 14 hematological parameters to establish a prognostic index. Methods: Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses were used to screen prognostic factors, and a prognostic index nomogram was conducted. Results: Seven prognostic factors were identified: primary tumor site in the non-proximal gastric area, signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC)/mucinous carcinoma, peritoneal metastasis, neutrophil count higher than the upper limit of normal value (ULN), lymphocyte count lower than the lower limit of normal value, lactate dehydrogenase level higher than the ULN, and alkaline phosphatase level higher than the ULN as significant for prognosis. A prognostic nomogram named the Fudan advanced gastric cancer prognostic risk score (FARS) index was constructed, and patients in the high-risk group had significantly shorter OS than those in the low-risk group (median OS, 15.5 versus 8.0 months, p < 0.001). The areas under the curve of the FARS index for 1-, 2-, and 3-year OS were 0.70, 0.72, and 0.77, respectively. A validation and external cohort verified the prognostic value of the FARS index. Moreover, three triplet regimen efficacy parameters were identified: SRCC/mucinous adenocarcinoma, primary tumor location in the non-proximal gastric area, and peripheral neutrophil count higher than the ULN; a TRIS index was subsequently conducted. In patients with any two of the three parameters, the triplet regimen showed significantly longer OS than the doublet regimen (p = 0.018). Conclusion: The constructed FARS index to predict the OS of AGC patients and the TRIS index to screen out the dominant population for triplet regimens can be used to aid clinical decision-making and individual risk stratification.

Muscle contusion is an injury to muscle fibers and connective tissues. It commonly happens in impact events, and could result in pain, swelling, and limited range of motion. Diclofenac is one of commonly used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to alleviate pain and inflammation after injury. However, it can potentially cause some side effects including gastrointestinal complications and allergy. Betulin is a lupine-type pentacyclic triterpenoid. It is showed to have valuable pharmacological effects, but the physiological effect of betulin on muscle contusion has not been reported. This study aimed to explore the therapeutic effects of betulin on muscle contusion that produced by the drop-mass method in mice. C57BL/6 mice were randomly assigned to control (no injury), only drop-mass injury (Injury), diclofenac treatment (Injury+diclofenac), and betulin treatment (Injury+betulin) groups. Injury was executed on the gastrocnemius of the right hind limb, and then phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), diclofenac, or betulin were oral gavage administrated respectively for 7 days. Results revealed that betulin significantly restored motor functions based on locomotor activity assessments, rota-rod test, and footprints analysis. Betulin also attenuated serum creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels after muscle injury. Neutrophil infiltration was alleviated and desmin levels were increased after betulin treatment. Our data demonstrated that betulin attenuated muscle damage, alleviated inflammatory response, improved muscle regeneration, and restored motor functions after muscle contusion. Altogether, betulin may be a potential compound to accelerate the repair of injured muscle.

The dynamic stability of tailing ponds depend largely on the dynamic characteristics of tailings sand. To explore the dynamic characteristics of tailings sand under different consolidation conditions, consolidated undrained triaxial tests under different dry densities, consolidation ratios and containing pressures, the dynamic shear stress, liquefaction stress ratio, dynamic strength index, dynamic pore water pressure, dynamic modulus, and damping ratio of tailings sand under different consolidation conditions were analyzed. The dynamic shear stress linearly changed with the number of failure vibrations. The liquefaction stress ratio increases with an increase in consolidation ratio, conforming to the quadratic polynomial of the origin. With an increase in failure vibration times, the dynamic internal friction angle decreases gradually. Under different failure vibration times, the dynamic internal friction angle increases with an increase in consolidation ratio and dry density. An exponential function model of dynamic pore pressure growth suitable for equal pressure and bias consolidation conditions is proposed, and the fitting effect is favorable. The dynamic shear modulus ratio decreases with an increase in dynamic shear strain; the damping ratio increases with an increase in dynamic shear strain. The research results can provide a theoretical reference for seismic liquefaction of tailings dams in high-intensity seismic areas.

To investigate the influence of a geogrid-reinforced tailings dam on the seepage stability of the dam body, this paper was based on the field test of a reinforced tailings accumulation dam. The study utilized the finite element strength reduction method to simulate the stability of the main dam of the Fengshuigou tailings reservoir under different seepage conditions using ABAQUS software. Additionally, the paper discussed the impact of conventional heightening, dry beach length, and geogrid reinforcement on the position and safety factor of the saturation line of the dam body. The results showed that when the dam body was raised, the saturation line rose by 2.8-5.3 m, resulting in a decrease in the safety factor. The geogrid effectively reduced the height of the saturation line in the tailings dam. In comparison to the unreinforced condition (dam heightening), the saturation line of the tailings dam decreased by 0.9-2.8 m under the local reinforcement condition and by 3.2-12.5 m under the overall reinforcement condition. The geogrid significantly improved the stability of the tailings dam. Furthermore, under the local reinforcement condition, the safety factor of the dam increased by 3.8-5.5%, and under the overall reinforcement condition, it increased by 35.9-42.9%, when compared to the unreinforced condition. Increasing the dry beach length improved the stability of the tailings dam, and under normal working conditions, the safety of the tailings dam was much higher than under the minimum dry beach condition. These results served as a reference for the design of the dam and the new tailings reservoir, laying a foundation for the sustainable development and environmental protection of the tailings pond.

To realize the resourceful use of soilbags filled with graphite tailings, their load-bearing and deformation characteristics must be fully understood. In this study, the following results were obtained by performing geometric testing of water-filled sealing bags and uniaxial compression tests of soilbags filled with graphite tailings. The volume of the soilbag expressed in rectangular form was approximately 0.773 times the actual volume. The types of compression damage to soilbags can be defined as surface damage and overall damage. The surface damage load increases with decreasing filling density and decreases with decreasing soilbag size. Moreover, the higher the tensile capacity of the soilbag material and the lower the friction between the soilbags, the greater the surface damage load. The overall damage load increased with an increase in the tensile strength of the soilbag material and decreased with an increase in the degree of filling; the overall damage load was greater for large-sized soilbags at high degrees of filling. Thus, the existing theoretical calculation method cannot accurately calculate the damage load of soilbags filled with graphite tailings, and the test results deviate from the theoretical calculation results, with the latter showing an increasing damage load with a decreasing filling degree.
