RESUMEN

In the context of optical fiber humidity sensing, the long-term stability of sensors in high humidity and dew environments such as bathrooms or marine climates remains a challenge, especially since many humidity sensitive materials are water soluble. In this study, we use methyldiethanolamine, pentaerythritol triacrylate and Eosin Y to form a liquid-solid structure humidity sensitive component, the outermost layer is coated with PDMS passivating layer to ensure the stability and durability of the humidity sensor under the conditions of dew and high humidity. The liquid microcavity of the sensor consists of methyldiethanolamine-pentaerythritol triacrylate composite solution, and the sensitivity is several times higher than that of the liquid-free cavity sensor. The sensitivity of the sensor to temperature is verified (0.43 nm/°C and 0.30 nm/°C, respectively) and temperature crosstalk is compensated using a matrix. The compact structure allows for ultra-fast response (602 ms) and recovery time (349 ms). Our work provides a promising platform for efficient and practical humidity and other gas monitoring systems.

RESUMEN

All-solid-state lithium-ion batteries (ASSLIBs), with their exceptional attributes, have captured the attention of researchers. They offer a viable solution to the inherent flaws of traditional lithium-ion batteries. The crux of an ASSLB lies in its solid-state electrolyte (SSE) which shows higher stability and safety compared to liquid electrolyte. Additionally, it holds the promise of being compatible with Li metal anode, thereby realizing higher capacity. Inorganic SSEs have undergone tremendous developments in the last few decades; however, their practical applications still face difficulties such as the electrode-electrolyte interface, air stability, and so on. The structural composition of inorganic electrolytes is inherently linked to the advantages and difficulties they present. This article provides a comprehensive explanation of the development, structure, and Li-ion transport mechanism of representative inorganic SSEs. Moreover, corresponding difficulties such as interface issues and air stability as well as possible solutions are also discussed.

Phoebe bournei is one of the main afforestation tree species in subtropical regions of China and is famous for its timber. Its distribution and growth are significantly impaired by water conditions. Thus, it is essential to understand the mechanism of the stress response in P. bournei. Here, we analyzed the phenotypic changes and transcriptomic rearrangement in the leaves and roots of P. bournei seedlings grown for 0 h, 1 h, 24 h, and 72 h under simulated drought conditions (10% PEG 6000). The results showed that drought stress inhibited plant photosynthesis and increased oxidoreductase activity and abscisic acid (ABA) accumulation. Spatio-temporal transcriptomic analysis identified 2836 and 3704 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in leaves and roots, respectively. The responsive genes in different organs presented various expression profiles at different times. Gene co-expression network analysis identified two core transcription factors, TGA4 and APRR2, from two modules that showed a strong positive correlation with ABA accumulation. Our study investigated the different responses of aboveground and belowground organs of P. bournei to drought stress and provides critical information for improving the drought resistance of this timber species.

Chinese fir (Cunninghamia lanceolata) is an important coniferous species that accounts for 20-30% of the total commercial timber production in China. Though traditional breeding of Chinese fir has achieved remarkable success, molecular-assisted breeding has made little progress due to limited availability of genomic information. In this study, a survey of Chinese fir genome was performed using the Illumina HiSeq Xten sequencing platform. K-mer analysis indicated that Chinese fir has a large genome of approximately 11.6 Gb with 74.89% repetitive elements and is highly heterozygous. Meanwhile, its genome size was estimated to be 13.2 Gb using flow cytometry. A total of 778.02 Gb clean reads were assembled into 10,982,272 scaffolds with an N50 of 1.57 kb. In total, 362,193 SSR loci were detected with a frequency of 13.18 kb. Dinucleotide repeats were the most abundant (up to 73.6% of the total SSRs), followed by trinucleotide and tetranucleotide repeats. Forty-six polymorphic pairs were developed, and 298 alleles were successfully amplified from 199 Chinese fir clones. The average PIC value was 0.53, indicating that the identified genomic SSR (gSSR) markers have a high degree of polymorphism. In addition, these breeding resources were divided into three groups, and a limited gene flow existed among these inferred groups.

INTRODUCTION: Acute lung injury (ALI) is generally caused by oxidative damages and pulmonary overinflammations. Hyperbaric oxygen preconditioning (HBO2-PC) has been proven protective against oxidative-stress-related injuries. In this study, we investigated the effect of HBO2-PC on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI in rats. METHODS: Thirty-two Sprague-Dawley rats randomly assigned into Sham, HBO2-PC, ALI and HBO2-PC÷ALI groups (eight in each group) were sacrificed at 12 hours after the injection of LPS. The severity of ALI in rats was assessed in terms of histopathological changes in addition to wet/dry weight ratios. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-1ß in serum and lung homogenates were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent and qRT-PCR assays. Activities by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), malondialdehyde (MDA), myeloperoxidase (MPO) as well as superoxide dismutase (SOD) in rat lungs were tested for neutrophil infiltration. Meanwhile the oxidative stress molecular markers nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB) p65 and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), together with its downstream heme-oxygenase 1 (HO-1) and NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) were also quantified. RESULTS: HBO2-PC significantly alleviated LPS-induced ALI, lowered the lung injury scores, reduced lung water content, and reduced H2O2, MDA levels as well as MPO activity, while simultaneously improving the arterial partial oxygen pressure (PaO2) and SOD activity. Furthermore, HBO2-PC inhibited the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 while enhancing the nuclear translocation of Nrf2, thus upregulating HO-1 and NQO1. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that HBO2-PC was potentially protective for LPS-induced ALI lungs in rats, with a presumed mechanism that suppressed NF-κB while activating Nrf2. We propose that HBO2-PC should be considered a potential therapeutic strategy against ALI in rats.

Baicalin exhibits antibacterial, anti­viral, anti­oxidative, antipyretic, analgesic, anti­inflammatory and anti­tumor properties. The chemical scavenges oxygen free radicals, protects the cardiovascular system and neurons, protects the liver, and has been used for the prevention and treatment of diabetes­associated complications. The present study investigated the effect of baicalin on severe burn­induced remote acute lung injury (ALI). The present study demonstrated that baicalin significantly decreased the lung wet­to­dry weight ratio, improved pulmonary histological alterations and reduced the expression of high mobility group protein B1 in the rat model of ALI. In addition, treatment with baicalin decreased tumor necrosis factor­α, interleukin (IL)­8, IL­1ß and IL­18 concentrations in the serum, reduced myeloperoxidase activity and malondialdehyde content, and increased the level of superoxide dismutase in the serum in treated model rats with ALI. As a result, baicalin significantly suppressed nucleotide­binding oligomerization, NACHT, LRR and PYD domains­containing protein 3 (NLRP3), caspase­1, nuclear factor­κB and matrix metalloproteinase­9 protein expression in the rat model of ALI. The results of the present study suggested that baicalin may serve a protective role against ALI in rats through the NLRP3 signaling pathway.
