Alismataceae is one of the early diverged families of monocotyledonous plants. We report the complete chloroplast genomes of three Alisma species, including Alisma orientale (Sam.) Juzep. 1934, A. subcordatum Raf. 1908, and A. triviale Pursh 1813, of which A. orientale is a traditional Chinese medical plant used widely to treat diuretics, diabetes, hepatitis, and inflammation. We sequenced the complete chloroplast genomes with the Illumina Nova-Seq 6000 platform using herbarium collections. The chloroplast genomes of A. orientale, A. subcordatum and A. triviale are 159,861 bp, 160,180 bp, and 159,727 bp in length, respectively. The three chloroplast genomes each contain 113 genes, including four rRNAs, 30 tRNAs genes, and 79 protein-coding genes, and the average GC content is 36.0%. Based on the whole chloroplast genomes of 19 species of Alismataceae and the close allies, the medicinally important A. orientale was found to be closely related to another medicinal plant Alisma plantago-aquatica L. 1753 in the phylogenetic analysis. The genus Alisma was supported to be monophyletic.

Assessment of Acute Mountain Sickness: Comparing the Chinese Ams Score to the Lake Louise Score. High Alt Med Biol 00:000-000, 2024. Objective: To compare the ability of the Chinese AMS Score (CAS) to detect acute mountain sickness (AMS) using the 2018 version of the Lake Louise Score (LLS) as reference. Methods: After flying from Chengdu (altitude: 500 m) to Lhasa (3,658 m), 2,486 young men completed a questionnaire. The questionnaire contained LLS and CAS items. An LLS ≥3 and/or a CAS ≥cutoff were used as the criteria for AMS. Hierarchical cluster analysis and two-step cluster analysis were used to investigate relationships between the symptoms. Results: AMS incidence rates were 33.8% (n = 840) with the LLS and 59.3% (n = 1,473) with the CAS (χ2 = 872.5, p < 0.001). The LLS and CAS had a linear relationship (orthogonal regression, Pearson r = 0.91, p < 0.001). With the LLS as the standard, the CAS had high diagnostic accuracy (area under the curve = 0.95, 95% confidence interval: 0.94-0.96). However, with the CAS, 25.5% (n = 633) more participants were labeled as having AMS than with the LLS (false positives). Two clusters were identified: one with headache only (419 participants, 66.2%) and one without headache but with other symptoms (214 participants, 33.8%). Reducing the weight of headache in the CAS allowed to align CAS and LLS. Conclusion: In comparison to the LLS, the CAS has a sensitivity close to 100% but lacks specificity given the high rate of false positives. The different weight of headaches may be the main reason for the discrepancy.

In recent years, the Sanjiang Plain has experienced drastic human activities, which have dramatically changed its ecological environment. Soil microorganisms can sensitively respond to changes in soil quality as well as ecosystem function. In this study, we investigated the changes in soil microbial community diversity and composition of three typical land use types (forest, wetland and cropland) in the Sanjiang Plain using phospholipid fatty acid analysis (PLFA) technology, and 114 different PLFA compounds were identified. The results showed that the soil physicochemical properties changed significantly (p < 0.05) among the different land use types; the microbial diversity and abundance in cropland soil were lower than those of the other two land use types. Soil pH, soil water content, total organic carbon and available nitrogen were the main soil physico-chemical properties driving the composition of the soil microbial community. Our results indicate that the soil microbial community response to the three different habitats is complex, and provide ideas for the mechanism by which land use changes in the Sanjiang Plain affect the structure of soil microbial communities, as well as a theoretical basis for the future management and sustainable use of the Sanjiang plain, in the northeast of China.

Calibration of titration calorimeters is an ongoing problem, particularly with calorimeters with reaction vessel volumes < 10 mL in which an electrical calibration heater is positioned outside the calorimetric vessel. Consequently, a chemical reaction with a known enthalpy change must be used to accurately calibrate these calorimeters. This work proposes the use of standard solutions of potassium acid phthalate (KHP) titrated into solutions of excess sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or excess tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (TRIS) as standard reactions to determine the collective accuracy of the relevant variables in a determination of the molar enthalpy change for a reaction. KHP is readily available in high purity, weighable for easy preparation of solutions with accurately known concentrations, stable in solution, not compromised by side reactions with common contaminants such as atmospheric CO2, and non-corrosive to materials used in calorimeter construction. Molar enthalpy changes for these reactions were calculated from 0 to 60 °C from reliable literature data for the pKa of KHP, the molar enthalpy change for protonation of TRIS, and the molar enthalpy change for ionization of water. The feasibility of using these reactions as enthalpic standards was tested in several calorimeters; a 50 mL CSC 4300, a 185 µL NanoITC, a 1.4 mL VP-ITC, and a TAM III with 1 mL reaction vessels. The results from the 50 mL CSC 4300, which was accurately calibrated with an electric heater, verified the accuracy of the calculated standard values for the molar enthalpy changes of the proposed reactions.

Inkjet printing is of great interest in the preparation of optoelectronic and microelectronic devices due to its low cost, low process temperature, versatile material compatibility, and ability to precisely manufacture multi-layer devices on demand. However, interlayer solvent erosion is a typical problem that limits the printing of organic semiconductor devices with multi-layer structures. In this study, we proposed a solution to address this erosion problem by designing polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinyl pyridine)-grafted Au nanoparticles (Au@PS-b-P4VP NPs). With a colloidal ink containing the Au@PS-b-P4VP NPs, we obtained a uniform monolayer of Au nano-crystal floating gates (NCFGs) embedded in the PS-b-P4VP tunneling dielectric (TD) layer using direct-ink-writing (DIW). Significantly, PS-b-P4VP has high erosion resistance against the semiconductor ink solvent, which enables multi-layer printing. An active layer of semiconductor crystals with high crystallinity and well-orientation was obtained by DIW. Moreover, we developed a strategy to improve the quality of the TD/semiconductor interface by introducing a polystyrene intermediate layer. We show that the NCFG memory devices exhibit a low threshold voltage (<3 V), large memory window (66 V), stable endurance (>100 cycles), and long-term retention (>10 years). This study provides universal guidance for printing functional coatings and multi-layer devices.

AIMS: This study aimed to illuminate the neuropathological landscape of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) by a multiscale macro-micro-molecular perspective from in vivo neuroimaging data. METHODS: The "ADHD-200 initiative" repository provided multi-site high-quality resting-state functional connectivity (rsfc-) neuroimaging for ADHD children and matched typically developing (TD) cohort. Diffusion mapping embedding model to derive the functional connectome gradient detecting biologically plausible neural pattern was built, and the multivariate partial least square method to uncover the enrichment of neurotransmitomic, cellular and chromosomal gradient-transcriptional signatures of AHBA enrichment and meta-analytic decoding. RESULTS: Compared to TD, ADHD children presented connectopic cortical gradient perturbations in almost all the cognition-involved brain macroscale networks (all pBH <0.001), but not in the brain global topology. As an intermediate phenotypic variant, such gradient perturbation was spatially enriched into distributions of GABAA/BZ and 5-HT2A receptors (all pBH <0.01) and co-varied with genetic transcriptional expressions (e.g. DYDC2, ATOH7, all pBH <0.01), associated with phenotypic variants in episodic memory and emotional regulations. Enrichment models demonstrated such gradient-transcriptional variants indicated the risk of both cell-specific and chromosome- dysfunctions, especially in enriched expression of oligodendrocyte precursors and endothelial cells (all pperm <0.05) as well enrichment into chromosome 18, 19 and X (pperm <0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings bridged brain macroscale neuropathological patterns to microscale/cellular biological architectures for ADHD children, demonstrating the neurobiologically pathological mechanism of ADHD into the genetic and molecular variants in GABA and 5-HT systems as well brain-derived enrichment of specific cellular/chromosomal expressions.

The design and synthesis of efficient, inexpensive, and long-term stable heterostructured electrocatalysts with high-density dislocations for hydrogen evolution reaction in alkaline media and seawater are still a great challenge. An amorphous/crystalline/amorphous sandwiched structure with abundant dislocations were synthesized through thermal phosphidation strategies. The dislocations play an important role in the hydrogen evolution reactions. Copious dislocation defects, combined with cracks, and the synergistic interfacial effect between crystalline phase and amorphous phase regulate the electronic structure of electrocatalyst, provide more active sites, and thus endow the electrocatalysts with excellent catalytic activity under alkaline water and seawater. The overpotentials of P-NiMoO4 at 10 mA/cm2 in 1 M KOH aqueous solution and seawater are 45 and 75 mV, respectively. Additionally, the P-NiMoO4 electrocatalyst exhibits long-term stability over 100 h. This study provides a simple approach for synthesizing amorphous/crystalline/amorphous sandwiched non-noble-metal electrocatalysts with abundant dislocations for hydrogen evolution reaction.

Beauveria bassiana, a well-known filamentous biocontrol fungus, is the main pathogen of numerous field and forest pests. To explore the potential factors involved in the fungal pathogenicity, Bbhox2, an important and conserved functional transcription factor containing homeodomain was carried out by functional analysis. Homologous recombination was used to disrupt the Bbhox2 gene in B.bassiana. The conidia yield of the deletant fungal strain was significantly reduced. The conidial germination was faster, and stress tolerance to Congo red and high osmotic agents were decreased compared with that in the wildtype. Additionally, ΔBbhox2 showed a dramatic reduction in virulence no matter in topical inoculations or in intra-hemolymph injections against Galleria mellonella larvae, which is likely due to the failure of appressorium formation and the defect in producing hyphal body. These results indicate that the Bbhox2 gene markedly contributes to conidiation and pathogenicity in B. bassiana.

BACKGROUND: Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill, a fruit utilized in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has a long history of medical application. It has been used to treat diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill polysaccharide (SACP) is an important biologically active ingredient that has been shown to have a variety of beneficial effects including immune regulation and anti-oxidative properties. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a complicated gastrointestinal inflammatory disease. We explore the protective effect of SACP against UC. RESULTS: Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill polysaccharide significantly reduced the disease activity index (DAI) and levels of myeloperoxidase(MPO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in colonic tissue. It also alleviated weight loss and histopathological damage of mice. The expression of MUC2 and occludin proteins was increased and the barrier function of the colonic mucosa was enhanced by SACP treatment. NF-κB pathway activation was also inhibited and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines was decreased whereas anti-inflammatory cytokines were increased. 16SrDNA sequencing of fecal flora showed that SACP increased the abundance of Muribaculaceaeunclassified, LachnospiraceaeNK4A136group and reduced the abundance of Bacteroides and Erysipelatoclostridium. CONCLUSION: Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill polysaccharide can protect against Dextran Sulfate Sodium Salt (DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis in mice. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries have ultrahigh theoretical specific capacity and energy density, which are considered to be very promising energy storage devices. However, the slow redox kinetics of polysulfides are the main reason for the rapid capacity decay of Li-S batteries. A reasonable electrocatalyst for the Li-S battery should reduce the reaction barrier and accelerate the reaction kinetics of the bidirectional catalytic conversion of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs), thereby reducing the cumulative concentration of LiPSs in the electrolyte. In this report, porous N-doped carbon nanofibers decorated with independent dual metal sites as catalysts for Li-S batteries were fabricated in one step using a fusion-foaming method. Experimental and theoretical analyses demonstrate that the synergistic effect of independent dual metal sites provides strong LiPS affinity, improved electronic conductivity, and enhanced redox kinetics of polysulfides. Therefore, the assembled Li-S battery exhibits high rate performance (discharge specific capacity of 771 mA h g-1 at 2C) and excellent cycle stability (capacity decay rate of 0.51% after 1000 cycles at 1C).

Salt-sensitivity hypertension (SSHTN) is an independent predictor for cardiovascular mortality. VEGFC has been reported to be a protective role in SSHTN and hypertensive kidney injury. However, the underlying mechanisms remain largely unclear. The current study aimed to explore the protective effects and mechanisms of VEGFC against SSHTN and hypertensive nephropathy. Here, we reported that VEGFC attenuated high blood pressure as well as protected against renal inflammation and fibrosis in SSHTN mice. Moreover, VEGFC suppressed the activation of renal NLRP3 inflammasome in SSHTN mice. In vitro, we found VEGFC inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation, meanwhile, upregulated autophagy in high-salt-induced macrophages, while these effects were reversed by an autophagy inhibitor 3MA. Furthermore, in vivo, 3MA pretreatment weakened the protective effects of VEGFC on SSHTN and hypertensive nephropathy. Mechanistically, VEGF receptor 3 (VEGFR3) kinase domain activated AMPK by promoting the phosphorylation at Thr183 via binding to AMPK, thus enhancing autophagy activity in the context of high-salt-induced macrophages. These findings indicated that VEGFC inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation by promoting VEGFR3-AMPK-dependent autophagy pathway in high-salt-induced macrophages, which provided a mechanistic basis for the therapeutic target in SSHTN and hypertensive kidney injury.

Whether respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in early life may induce orosomucoid 1-like protein 3 (ORMDL3) and lead to NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome overexpression in asthma, which could be alleviated by the inhibition of HAT p300. First, we explored the relationship between RSV, ORMDL3, and recurrent wheezing in the future through clinical data of infants with RSV-induced bronchiolitis. Then, we used bronchial epithelium transformed with Ad12-SV40 2B (BEAS-2B) and an asthmatic mouse model of repeated RSV infection and OVA sensitization and challenge (rRSV + OVA) in early life to assess the effects of ORMDL3 on NLRP3 inflammasome and that of histone acetylation on ORMDL3 regulation. ORMDL3 overexpression is the independent risk factor of recurrent wheezing in RSV-bronchiolitis follow-up. In BEAS-2B, ORMDL3-induced NLRP3 inflammasome expression. BEAS-2B infected by RSV resulted in overexpression of ORMDL3 and NLRP3 inflammasome and histone hyperacetylation, while ORMDL3-small interfering RNA and C646 interfered could decrease NLRP3 inflammasome. ORMDL3 overexpression in mouse lung increased NLRP3 inflammasome. The expression of ORMDL3 and NLRP3 inflammasome significantly increased, with histone hyperacetylation in the lung in rRSV + OVA mice. p300 and acetylH3 bound to ORMDL3 promoter. In C646 + rRSV + OVA mice, C646 alleviated lung inflammation and overexpression of ORMDL3 and NLRP3 inflammasome. RSV activated ORMDL3 overexpression through histone hyperacetylation and induced NLRP3 inflammasome expression.

In the face of the challenge of balancing urban economic development and environmental protection, the concept of a healthy city has emerged as a promising model for sustainable urban development. This study empirically investigates the impact of healthy city construction on green growth by utilizing a difference-in-difference model estimation on a panel dataset of 279 Chinese prefecture-level cities from 2007 to 2019. The findings reveal that healthy city construction significantly contributes to green growth, particularly in pilot cities, and this effect is observed across cities of different sizes and economic bases. Additionally, we identify two channels through which healthy city construction promotes green growth: enhancing innovation capacity and enriching human resources. These findings have implications not only for Chinese cities navigating the path towards green growth but also for other developing nations striving for economic transformation and environmentally sustainable development.

Black phosphorus (BP), as a burgeoning two-dimensional material, has shown good electrocatalytic activity due to its unique electronic structure and abundant active sites.However, the presence of lone pair electrons in black phosphorus leads to its poor stability and rapid degradation in an oxygen/water environment, which greatly limits its practical application. Herein, BP-Co heterojunctions were synthesized on carbon nanotube@nitrogen-doped carbon (BP-Co/CNT@NC) by the pyrolysis of ZnCo-zeolitic imidazolate frameworks and subsequent solvothermal treatment. The BP-Co Schottky junction improved the electrocatalytic stability of BP, modulated its electronic structure, improved its conductivity and electron transfer during the electrocatalytic reaction. Density functional theory calculation was used to confirm the electron transfer and redistribution at the interface between BP and Co, which constructed an oppositely charged region and formed a strong built-in field. Energy band configuration analysis revealed a narrowed band gap because of the formation of BP-Co Schottky junction. Consequently, the optimized BP-Co/CNT@NC exhibited a superior oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance, a low overpotential of 370 mV@100 mA/cm2, with a small Tafel slope of 40 mV/dec and good long-term stability. Particularly, the catalyst has an excellent OER performance at the high current density of 100-400 mA/cm2. This strategy improves the stability of BP electrocatalysts and strengthens their utilization in electrocatalytic applications.

Remodeling of the tissue niche is often evident in diseases, yet, the stromal alterations and their contribution to pathogenesis are poorly characterized. Bone marrow fibrosis is a maladaptive feature of primary myelofibrosis (PMF). We performed lineage tracing and found that most collagen-expressing myofibroblasts were derived from leptin-receptor-positive (LepR+) mesenchymal cells, whereas a minority were from Gli1-lineage cells. Deletion of Gli1 did not impact PMF. Unbiased single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) confirmed that virtually all myofibroblasts originated from LepR-lineage cells, with reduced expression of hematopoietic niche factors and increased expression of fibrogenic factors. Concurrently, endothelial cells upregulated arteriolar-signature genes. Pericytes and Sox10+ glial cells expanded drastically with heightened cell-cell signaling, suggesting important functional roles in PMF. Chemical or genetic ablation of bone marrow glial cells ameliorated fibrosis and improved other pathology in PMF. Thus, PMF involves complex remodeling of the bone marrow microenvironment, and glial cells represent a promising therapeutic target.

Hydrogels, as a class of three-dimensional (3D) polymer networks, are important candidates for drug delivery owing to their high porosity and hydrophilicity. Generally, clinical applications put forward various requirements for drug delivery systems (DDSs), such as low toxic side effects, high biocompatibility, targeting, controllable release, and high drug loading. In recent years, nanocellulose, including cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs), has emerged as a promising material for hydrogel-based DDSs. This is due to its high surface area, abundant surface hydroxyl groups that can be easily chemically modified for multifunctionalization, natural origin leading to high biocompatibility and degradability, etc. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the preparation methods for hydrogels based on CNCs/CNFs for use in drug delivery systems, including physical crosslinking and chemical crosslinking. Additionally, various carrier forms such as hydrogel particles, hydrogel films, injectable hydrogels, and sprayable hydrogels are discussed. Key drug delivery parameters including loading and release efficiency as well as responses to different stimuli are also examined in detail. Finally, in view of the subdivision of drug delivery, the opportunities and challenges of nano cellulose based hydrogels were proposed from the perspective of application, and the potential research directions were pointed out.

Owing to the unique geometric structure of dendritic amphiphiles with voluminous dendrons, their micelles can harbor a large void space, which provides a new research focus and approach for micellar functionalization. In this work, we used the void space to construct a UV responsive micelle system of the mixed dendritic amphiphile (C12-(G3)2) and cationic azobenzene surfactant (C4AzoTAB). The synthesized C12-(G3)2 that possesses double third generation polyglycerol (PG) dendrons and a single alkyl chain is expected to highlight the large void space within the inside of the micelles. Thus, the aims of this work are to achieve the isomerization of C4AzoTAB in situ and to deeply understand the intermolecular interaction in the mixed micelles. The effect of the large void room with a wall decorated with the ether oxygen atoms on the isomerization of C4AzoTAB was studied by isomerization kinetics, conductivity measurements, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), and 1H NMR and 2D NOESY spectroscopies. The isomerization behavior of C4AzoTAB in C12-(G3)2 micelles was presented in terms of its kinetic constant, counterionic association, interaction enthalpy, and position and orientation of C4AzoTAB. The results of NMR and conductivity show that the quaternary ammonium group of C4AzoTAB situates on the surface of the mixed micelles with C12-(G3)2 both before and after UV-irradiation, while the position of azobenzene group in C12-(G3)2 micelles depends on its conformation. The C12-(G3)2 micelles can inhibit the UV response of the trans-isomer and activate the thermal relaxation of the cis-isomer, which has a potential application in the field of light-controlled smart nanocarriers.

Influenza virus has continuously spread around the globe for more than 100 years since the first influenza epidemic in 1918. The rapid and unpredictable gene variation of the influenza virus could possibly bring about another pandemic in future, which might threaten to overwhelm us without adequate preparation. Consequently, it is extremely urgent to identify effective broad-spectrum antiviral treatments for a variety of influenza virus variants. As essential body components, trace elements are great potential candidates with an as yet poorly understood ability to protect the host from influenza infection. Herein, we have summarized the present state of knowledge concerning the function of trace elements in influenza virus replication along with an analysis of their potential molecular mechanisms. Modulation of host immune responses to the influenza virus is one of the most common modes to achieve the anti-influenza activity of trace elements, such as selenium and zinc. Simultaneously, some antioxidant and antiviral signal pathways can be altered with the participation of trace elements. More interestingly, some micro-elements including selenium, zinc, copper and manganese, directly target viral proteins and regulate their stability and activity to influence the life cycle of the influenza virus. Further verification of the antiviral effect and the mechanism will promote the application of trace elements as adjuvants in the clinic.

Early assessment of refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP) with plastic bronchitis (PB) allows timely removal of casts using fiberoptic bronchoscopic manipulation, which relieves airway obstruction and limit sequelae development. This study aimed to analyze clinical data for risk factors and develop a nomogram for early predictive evaluation of RMPP with PB. The clinical data of 1-14 year-old patients with RMPP were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were classified into a PB or non-PB group. The general characteristics, clinical symptoms, laboratory test results, imaging findings, and microscopic changes of the two groups were compared. A statistical analysis of the risk factors for developing PB was performed, and a nomogram model of risk factors was constructed. Of 120 patients with RMPP included, 68 and 52 were in the non-PB and PB groups, respectively. Using multivariate logistic regression analysis, fever before bronchoscopy, extrapulmonary complications, pleural effusion, cough duration, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels were identified as risk factors. A nomogram was constructed based on the results of the multivariate analysis. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve value of the nomogram was 0.944 (95% confidence interval: 0.779-0.962). The Hosmer-Lemeshow test displayed good calibration of the nomogram (p = 0.376, R2 = 0.723). CONCLUSION: The nomogram model constructed in this study based on five risk factors (persistent fever before bronchoscopy, extrapulmonary complications, pleural effusion, cough duration, and LDH levels) prior to bronchoscopy can be used for the early identification of RMPP-induced PB. WHAT IS KNOWN: • Refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP) in children has been increasingly reported and recognized, which often leads to serious complications. • Plastic bronchitis (PB) is considered to be one of the causes of RMPP, and bronchoscopic treatment should be improved as soon as possible to remove plastic sputum thrombus in bronchus. WHAT IS NEW: • This study determined the risk factors for RMPP-induced PB. • The nomogram model constructed in this study prior to bronchoscopy can be used for the early identification of RMPP-induced PB, which facilitate the early bronchoscopic removal of casts, thereby promoting recovery and reducing cases with poor RMPP prognosis.

PURPOSE: The possible impact of preload food on insulin sensitivity has yet been reported. This study aimed to investigate the glycemic and insulinemic effect of an apple preload before breakfast, lunch and early supper, based on high glycemic index (GI) rice meals. METHODS: Twenty-three healthy participants in Group 1 and 14 participants in Group 2 were served with the reference meal (white rice containing 50 g of available carbohydrate) or experimental meals (apple preload and rice, each containing 15 and 35 g of available carbohydrate). The meals were either served at 8:00 for breakfast, 12:30 for lunch or 17:00 for early supper to explore the possible effect of time factor. The group 1 assessed the postprandial and subsequent-meal glycemic effect of the test meals by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), along with subjective appetite; The group 2 further investigated the glycemic and insulin effect by blood collection. RESULTS: The apple preload lowered the blood glucose peak value by 33.5%, 31.4% and 31.0% in breakfast, lunch and supper, respectively, while increased insulin sensitivity by 40.5% only at breakfast, compared with the rice reference. The early supper resulted significantly milder glycemic response than its breakfast and lunch counterparts did. The result of CGM tests was consistent with that of the fingertip blood tests. CONCLUSION: Apple preload performed the best at breakfast in terms of enhancing the insulin sensitivity. The preload treatment could effectively attenuate postprandial GR without increasing the area under insulin response curve in any of the three meals.
