BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis is a common rheumatic disease, and its onset is closely related to genetic and environmental factors, however, the relationship between air pollution and RA is still hotly debated. Further investigation of the relationship between air pollution and rheumatoid arthritis is conducive to a comprehensive understanding of the risk factors of the disease, providing certain value for the clinical prevention and treatment of RA. METHODS: We used a Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization approach, integrating the large-scale public genomewide association study, to assess the genetically predicted causal effect of air pollution (including: PM2.5, PM2.5-10, PM10, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxides) on RA in European and European East Asian populations, respectively. Indicators related to air pollution (2,505 individuals to 423,796 individuals), including European and East Asian populations were obtained from the Integrative Epidemiology Unit open GWAS project. Published East Asian RA data were also obtained from the IEU open GWAS project (212,453 individuals), while large-scale publicly available European RA data were obtained from finngen R10 (13,621 cases and 262,844 controls). Inverse variance weighting was used as the primary analytical method, complemented by MR-egger, Weighed median, and Weighted mode results. Cochran Q tested for heterogeneity, and MR-Egger regression analyses were performed to test for multiplicity. leave-one-out analysis allowed for the robustness and reliability were assessed. RESULTS: No statistically significant effects of PM2.5, PM2.5-10, PM10, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxides and RA were observed in either European or East Asian populations. Results from European data: PM2.5 (IVW OR: 0.71; 95% CI: 0.27-1.91; p = 0.498; number of SNPs: 5), PM2.5-10 (IVW OR: 1.20; 95% CI: 0.61-2.40; p = 0.596; number of SNPs: 15), PM10 (IVW OR: 1.69; 95% CI: 0.84-3.39; p = 0.142; number of SNPs: 9), nitrogen dioxide (IVW OR: 3.88; 95% CI: 0.19-77.77; p = 0.375; number of SNPs: 2), nitrogen oxides (IVW OR: 0.51; 95% CI: 0.16-1.67; p = 0.268; number of SNPs: 4). East Asian data results: PM2.5 (IVW OR: 1.16; 95% CI: 0.98-1.38; p = 0.086; number of SNPs: 4), PM2.5-10 (IVW OR: 1.14; 95% CI: 0.95-1.38; p = 0.166; number of SNPs: 2), PM10 (IVW OR: 0.95; 95% CI: 0.81-1.11; p = 0.503; number of SNPs: 3), nitrogen dioxide (IVW OR: 0.87; 95% CI: 0.76-1.00; p = 0.051; number of SNPs: 6), nitrogen oxides (IVW OR: 0.96; 95% CI: 0.82-1.14; p = 0.671; number of SNPs: 3). No signs of pleiotropy or heterogeneity were observed in the MR-Egger intercept, MR-PRESSO and Cochrane's Q (p>0.05). In addition, no outliers were found in the MR-PRESSO analysis. The results were further validated by leave-one-out tests, confirming the robustness of the findings. CONCLUSIONS: We performed transethnic MR analysis suggesting that there may not be a genetically predicted causal relationship between air pollution and RA.

Introduction: There is growing evidence indicating a complex interaction between blood metabolites and atopic dermatitis (AD). The objective of this study was to investigate and quantify the potential influence of plasma metabolites on AD through Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Methods: Our procedures followed these steps: instrument variable selection, primary analysis, replication analysis, Meta-analysis of results, reverse MR analysis, and multivariate MR (MVMR) analysis. In our study, the exposure factors were derived from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), encompassing 8,299 individuals of European descent and identifying 1,091 plasma metabolites and 309 metabolite ratios. In primary analysis, AD data, was sourced from the GWAS catalog (Accession ID: GCST90244787), comprising 60,653 cases and 804,329 controls. For replication, AD data from the Finnish R10 database included 15,208 cases and 367,046 controls. We primarily utilized the inverse variance weighting method to assess the causal relationship between blood metabolites and AD. Results: Our study identified significant causal relationships between nine genetically predicted blood metabolites and AD. Specifically, 1-palmitoyl-2-stearoyl-GPC (16:0/18:0) (OR = 0.92, 95% CI 0.89-0.94), 1-methylnicotinamide (OR = 0.93, 95% CI 0.89-0.98), linoleoyl-arachidonoyl-glycerol (18:2/20:4) [1] (OR = 0.94, 95% CI 0.92-0.96), and 1-arachidonoyl-GPC (20:4n6) (OR = 0.94, 95% CI 0.92-0.96) were associated with a reduced risk of AD. Conversely, phosphate / linoleoyl-arachidonoyl-glycerol (18:2/20:4) [2] (OR = 1.07, 95% CI 1.04-1.10), docosatrienoate (22:3n3) (OR = 1.07, 95% CI 1.04-1.10), retinol (Vitamin A) / linoleoyl-arachidonoyl-glycerol (18:2/20:4) [2] (OR = 1.08, 95% CI 1.05-1.11), retinol (Vitamin A) / linoleoyl-arachidonoylglycerol (18:2/20:4) [1] (OR = 1.08, 95% CI 1.05-1.12), and phosphate / linoleoyl-arachidonoyl-glycerol (18:2/20:4) [1] (OR = 1.09, 95% CI 1.07-1.12 were associated with an increased risk of AD. No evidence of reverse causality was found in the previously significant results. MVMR analysis further confirmed that 1-palmitoyl-2-stearoyl-GPC (16:0/18:0) and 1-methylnicotinamide are independent and dominant contributors to the development of AD. Conclusion: Our study revealed a causal relationship between genetically predicted blood metabolites and AD. This discovery offers specific targets for drug development in the treatment of AD patients and provides valuable insights for investigating the underlying mechanisms of AD in future research.

The application of shear horizontal (SH) guided wave transducers in high-temperature structural health monitoring (SHM) is a topic of significant interest across various industrial engineering sectors. In this study, we utilized the novelty piezoelectric crystal of near stoichiometric lithium niobate (NSLN), which exhibited a robust piezoelectric response (d15 = 77.6 pC/N@room temperature). Next, the pure thickness shear vibration mode d15' through size optimization was designed. It was demonstrated that the NSLN-based ultrasonic guided wave transducers utilizing the optimum d15' mode were proficient in transmitting and receiving pure fundamental SH wave (SH0 wave) along two orthogonal main directions (0° and 90°) over a wide frequency range (100-350 kHz), exhibiting strong response to the SH0 wave. Under the driving voltage of 100 V, the signal voltages of the NSLN-based transducer were found to be on the order of 200.3 and 11.8 mV at room temperature and high temperature of 650 °C, respectively. Moreover, the NSLN-based SH0 transducer showcased its better defect localization ability, and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) sensitivity of NSLN-based transducer was evaluated to be 16.1 dB at high temperature of 650 °C. To sum up, the ultrasonic wave transducer based on NSLN crystal demonstrated higher potential applications for in situ SHM under elevated temperatures.

BACKGROUND: Meige's syndrome severely impacts quality of life. Current treatments struggle to balance cost, risk, and effectiveness. METHODS: Patients with blepharospasm were treated with facial nerves partial radiofrequency ablation guided by CT. Treatment efficacy, complications, and recurrences were evaluated during follow-up. RESULTS: 116 facial nerves in 58 patients with Meige's syndrome were treated using CT guidance. The average temperature at the end of radiofrequency treatment was 77.93 ± 9.8 °C, and the procedure lasted an average of 30.79 ± 7.69 min. Spasms stopped after treatment, but mild facial paralysis remained. Follow-ups ranging from 12 to 57 months showed that facial paralysis improved in an average of 3.12 ± 0.94 months. Nine patients had unilateral recurrence within 6-13 months, and three had bilateral recurrence at 14, 18, and 22 months. CONCLUSIONS: Partial radiofrequency ablation of the facial nerve through percutaneous access to the bilateral stylomastoid foramen using CT navigation is an effective, safe, promising treatment for blepharospasm in Meige's syndrome patients.

Mimicking fundamental synaptic working principles with memristors contributes an essential step toward constructing brain-inspired, high-efficiency neuromorphic systems that surpass von Neumann system computers. Here, an electroforming-free planar-type memristor based on a CsPbBr3 single crystal is proposed and exhibits excellent resistive switching (RS) behaviors including stable endurance, ultralow power consumption, and fast switching speed. Furthermore, an optically tunable RS performance is demonstrated by manipulating irradiation intensity and wavelength. Optical analysis techniques such as steady-state photoluminescence and time-resolved photoluminescence are employed to investigate the distribution of Br ions and vacancies before and after quantitative polarization, describing migration dynamic processes to elucidate the RS mechanism. Importantly, a CsPbBr3 single crystal, as the optoelectronic synapse, shows unique potential to emulate photoenhanced synaptic functions such as excitatory postsynaptic current, paired-pulse facilitation, long-term potentiation/depression, spike-timing-dependent plasticity, spike-voltage-dependent plasticity, and learning-forgetting-relearning process with ultralow per synapse event energy consumption. A classical Pavlov's dog experiment is simulated with a combination of optical and electrical stimulation. Finally, pattern recognition with simulated artificial neural networks based on our synapse reached an accuracy of 93.11%. The special strategy and superior RS characteristics of optoelectronic synapses provide a pathway toward high-performance, energy-efficient neuromorphic electronics.

INTRODUCTION: This study explored the general tendencies and heterogeneous developmental trajectory of prosocial behavior and predictors. METHOD: The present study conducted latent growth model and growth mixture model analyses in a sample of 814 students (Mage = 13.79 years old at baseline; 57% girls) from economically disadvantaged families, classified as being below the local income threshold in China, with four follow-up surveys administered during the following 2 years. RESULTS: The general tendency in the developmental trajectory of prosocial behavior showed a linear decrease. A gender difference in initial levels was observed, with girls showing a higher initial level of prosocial behavior than boys. Family functioning, subjective support, and support utilization significantly affected the intercept, but objective support significantly negatively affected the slope. Heterogeneity in the development of prosocial behavior was best classified with a 3-class solution, including C1 (Rapid-decrease, 10.6%), C2 (Medium-stable, 42.5%), and C3 (High-increase, 46.9%). The patterns of prosocial behavior development in economically disadvantaged children with higher family functioning were more likely to be in the High-increase Class than in the Rapid-decrease Class. CONCLUSION: The present study revealed an average decline in the trajectories of prosocial behavior development in economically disadvantaged children. However, it also captured heterogeneous developmental trajectories. Furthermore, the study revealed that family functioning, subjective support, and support utilization all served as protective factors for prosocial behavior among economically disadvantaged children.

BACKGROUND: Fat grafting and repositioning may serve as a convenient, economical, and effective surgical method for correcting lower eyelid pouch with a tear trough deformity or lid-cheek junction. However, comprehensive systematic reviews and meta-analyses investigating the complications associated with this technique are lacking. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to summarize and gather data on complications related to fat grafting and repositioning for the correction of tear trough deformity or lid-cheek junction in lower eyelid blepharoplasty. METHODS: A thorough search was performed across multiple databases including PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, ProQuest, Ovid, Scopus, and Web of Science. Specific inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to screen the articles. The occurrence of complications was analyzed using a random-effects model. RESULTS: A total of 33 studies involving 4671 patients met the criteria for systematic evaluation and were included in this meta-analysis. The overall complication rates were 0.112 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.060-0.177) for total complications, 0.062 (95% CI: 0.003-0.172) for unsatisfactory correction or contour irregularity, 0.062 (95% CI: 0.009-0.151) for hematoma, swelling (not specified as bulbar conjunctiva), ecchymosis, or oozing of blood, and 0.024 (95% CI: 0.013-0.038) for reoperation. CONCLUSIONS: Fat grafting and repositioning for correcting a lower eyelid pouch with tear trough deformity or lid-cheek junction was associated with high rates of complications. Therefore, it is crucial to closely monitor the rates of unsatisfactory correction or contour irregularity, hematoma, swelling (not specified as bulbar conjunctiva), ecchymosis, or oozing of blood, and reoperation. In addition, effective communication with patients should be prioritized.

The failure behavior of safety-critical systems typically depends on the system performance level, which offers opportunities to control system failure risk through dynamic performance adjustment. Moreover, mission abort serves as an intuitive way to mitigate safety hazards during mission execution. Our study focuses on systems that execute successive missions with random durations. To balance mission completion probability and system failure risk, we examine two decision problems: when to abort missions and how to select the performance level prior to mission abort. Our objective is to maximize the expected revenue through dynamic performance control and mission abort (PCMA) decisions. We consider condition-based PCMA decisions and formulate the joint optimization problem into a Markov decision process. We establish the monotonicity and concavity of the value function. Based on this insight, we show that optimizing the mission abort policy requires a series of control limits. In addition, we provide conditions under which the performance control policies are monotone. For comparative purposes, we analytically evaluate the performances of some heuristic policies. Finally, we present a case study involving unmanned aerial vehicles executing power line inspections. The results indicate the superiority of our proposed risk control policies in enhancing operational performance for safety-critical systems. Dynamic performance adjustment and mission abort decisions provide opportunities to reduce the failure risk and increase operational rewards of safety-critical systems.

OBJECTIVES: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a marked shift toward telesimulation in medical education. Limited studies exist comparing the effectiveness of online and offline simulation education. The goals of this study are to evaluate active learners' perceived effectiveness of telesimulation versus in situ simulation and to identify potential shortcomings of existing online teaching platforms. METHODS: Through participant evaluations after a simulation, we compared telesimulation using the Virtual Resus Room (VRR) to in situ simulation in the domains of (1) self-efficacy, (2) fidelity, (3) educational value, and (4) teaching quality. Study subjects included medical and pharmacy residents and medical students completing their pediatric emergency medicine rotation at two children's hospitals as well as nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants who were recently hired and orienting to their new roles in the emergency department. Learners used a modified Michigan Standard Simulation Experience Scale to evaluate either a telesimulation or in situ simulation case. Survey responses were compared using Wilcoxon rank sum tests with Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons. RESULTS: In overall assessment, in situ simulation was rated higher than telesimulation. There were significant differences noted related to perceived realism, utility in training device-related skills, and utility in training team-building skills. All P values were less than 0.0036. There were no significant differences between simulation types in perception of physical examination fidelity, instructor adequacy, or self-efficacy. CONCLUSIONS: Telesimulation using the VRR is comparable to in situ simulation in learners' perception of improvement in self-efficacy and of teaching quality for pediatric emergency medicine topics. However, participants felt less able to practice tactile and communication skills virtually. Further innovation is needed to improve learners' experience with fidelity and educational value.

BACKGROUND: Irinotecan (CPT-11) is a first-line treatment for advanced colorectal cancer (CRC). Four components (baicalin, baicalein, wogonin, and glycyrrhizic acid) derived from Huangqin Decoction (HQD) have been proven to enhance the anticancer activity of CPT-11 in our previous study. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the optimal combination of the four components for sensitizing CPT-11 as well as to explore the underlying mechanism. METHODS: The orthogonal design method was applied to obtain candidate combinations (Cmb1-9) of the four components. The influence of different combinations on the anticancer effect of CPT-11 was first evaluated in vitro by cell viability, wound healing ability, cloning formation, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest. Then, a CRC xenograft mice model was constructed to evaluate the anticancer effect of the optimal combination in vivo. Potential mechanisms of the optimal combination exerting a sensitization effect combined with CPT-11 against CRC were analyzed by targeted metabolomics. RESULTS: In vitro experiments determined that Cmb8 comprised of baicalin, baicalein, wogonin, and glycyrrhizic acid at the concentrations of 17 µM, 47 µM, 46.5 µM and 9.8 µM respectively was the most effective combination. Importantly, the cell viability assay showed that Cmb8 exhibited synergistic anticancer activity in combination with CPT-11. In in vivo experiments, this combination (15 mg/kg of baicalin, 24 mg/kg of baicalein, 24 mg/kg of wogonin, and 15 mg/kg of glycyrrhizic acid) also showed a synergistic anticancer effect. Meanwhile, inflammatory factors and pathological examination of the colon showed that Cmb8 could alleviate the gastrointestinal damage induced by CPT-11. Metabolic profiling of the tumors suggested that the synergistic anticancer effect of Cmb8 might be related to the regulation of fatty acid metabolism. CONCLUSION: The optimal combination of four components derived from HQD for the synergistic sensitization of CPT-11 against CRC was identified.

OBJECTIVES: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) pre-conditioning on the expression rhythm of clock gene Bmal1 in the uterine tissue of rats with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation(COH), so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of the endometrial receptivity of ovarian superovulation during implantation. METHODS: Seventy-two female SD rats with typical estrous cycles were randomly divided into normal control, model and EA pre-conditioning (pre-EA) groups, with 24 rats in each group. The COH model was established by giving the rats with pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) by intraperitoneal injection. The rats of the pre-EA group received EA stimulation (1 Hz/5 Hz, a tolerable strength) of "Guanyuan"(CV4) and "Sanyinjiao"(SP6) for 15 min each time, once daily (at 21:00 every day). After successive EA intervention during the first two estrous cycles, the modeling began in the third estrus cycle and the EA intervention was continued till the end of modeling, followed by raising the rats with superovulation induction and male rats undergoing vasoligation in one cage (1∶1). The rats during the estrum in the normal control group or those of the model group at the end of modeling were raised together with the male rats undergoing vasoligation in one cage. On the 5th day (04:00 AM) after raising in one cage, the rats in the three groups were sacrificed in six batches every 4 hours, with 4 rats in each group in each batch. The H.E. staining was used for revealing alterations of the endometrial thickness, number of glands and blood vessels and tissue histology, and ELISA employed to ascertain the contents of estradiol (E2) and progesterone (Pg) in serum. The expression rhythm of core clock gene Bmal1 [In the present study, Zeitgeber time (ZT) is an artificially set laboratory time, i.e., ZT7 (07:00) is light on and ZT19 (19:00) is light off.] and the expression of endometrial HoxA10 and leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) mRNAs were detected by quantitative real-time PCR. The Western blot was employed to detect the expression levels of HoxA10 and LIF proteins. RESULTS: Findings of the clock gene Bmal1 level showed that the expression peak was at ZT12 and the valley value at ZT20 in the normal control group, and that of the peak value was at ZT20 and valley value at ZT12 in the model group, while in the pre-EA group, the peak value was at ZT8, and the valley value at ZT4. The difference of Bmal1 levels among the three groups was most significant at ZT12 (12:00), therefore, the tissue samples were taken at ZT12 in this study for comparison of the levels of different indexes among the 3 groups. Compared with the control group, the endometrial thickness, number of glands and blood vessels, HoxA10 and LIF mRNAs and proteins were significantly down-regulated (P<0.01, P<0.05), and contents of serum E2 and Pg were considerably up-regulated in the model group (P<0.01, P<0.05). Relevant to the model group, the pre-EA group had an apparent increase in the endometrial thickness, number of glands and blood vessels, and expression levels of HoxA10 and LIF mRNAs and proteins (P<0.05, P<0.01), and a marked decrease in the serum Pg (P<0.05). At the ZT12 (12:00 noon), compared with the normal control group, the mRNA level of Bmal1 was significantly decreased in the model group (P<0.01);and compared with the model group, the level of Bmal1 mRNA was significantly increased in the pre-EA group (P<0.05). In addition, at the node of ZT16, the mRNA level of Bmal1 was significantly decreased in the model group in comparison with the normal control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: EA preconditioning can improve the endometrial receptivity during the implantation window period in rats with COH, which may be related to its functions in regulating the expression of clock gene Bmal1 in the uterine tissue and in correcting the disturbance of clock gene rhythm.

BACKGROUND: There is a high incidence of cervical cancer in Xinjiang. Genetic variation in human papillomavirus may increase its ability to invade, spread, and escape host immune response. METHODS: HPV16 genome was sequenced for 90 positive samples of HPV16 infection. Sequences of the E4, E5 and L2 genes were analysed to reveal sequence variation of HPV16 in Xinjiang and the distribution of variation among the positive samples of HPV16 infection. RESULTS: Eighty-one of the 90 samples of HPV16 infection showed variation in HPV16 E4 gene with 18 nucleotide variation sites, of which 8 sites were synonymous variations and 11 missense variations. 90 samples of HPV16 infection showed variation in HPV16 E5 and L2 genes with 16 nucleotide variation sites (6 synonymous, 11 missense variations) in the E5 gene and 100 nucleotide variation sites in L2 gene (37 synonymous, 67 missense variations). The frequency of HPV16 L2 gene missense variations G3377A, G3599A, G3703A, and G3757A was higher in the case groups than in the control groups. CONCLUSIONS: Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that 87 samples were European strains, 3 cases were Asian strains, there were no other variations, and G4181A was related to Asian strains. HPV16 L2 gene missense variations G3377A, G3599A, G3703A, and G3757A were significantly more frequent in the case groups than in the control groups.

Exosomes are small membrane vesicles in a cell culture. They are secreted by most cells and originate from the endosomal pathway. A variety of proteins, lipids, and genetic materials have been shown to be carried by exosomes. Once taken up by neighboring or distant cells, the bioactive compounds in exosomes can regulate the condition of recipient cells. Typically, producing exosomes in large quantities requires cell culture, resulting in high production costs. However, exosomes are abundant in milk and can be isolated on a large scale at a low cost. In our study, we found that milk exosomes can promote the synthesis and reconstruction of stratum corneum lipids, enhance skin barrier function, and provide greater protection for the skin. Furthermore, milk exosomes have anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce skin irritation, redness, and other symptoms, giving immediate relief. They also exhibit antioxidant activity, which helps neutralize free radicals and slows down the skin aging process. Additionally, milk exosomes inhibit melanin production, aiding in skin whitening. Ongoing research has uncovered the benefits of milk exosomes for skin improvement and their application in cosmetics, skin healthcare, and other fields, and these applications are continuing to expand.

How different racial minorities experience racism differently remains underexplored in existing research. Here, we show that Asian and Black people are often dehumanized differently. Twelve studies spotlight a racial asymmetry in dehumanization using a wide array of methods (experimental, archival, and computational) and data sources (online samples, word embeddings, and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data): Whereas Black people are more often subjected to animalistic dehumanization, Asian people are predominantly subjected to mechanistic dehumanization. We demonstrate this asymmetry from the vantage point of victims (Studies 1a and 1b) and perpetrators (Studies 2a-2d). We further document the prevalence of this asymmetry across diverse domains, from everyday language (Study 3) to perceptions in the realms of romantic relationships (Study 4a), crime rates (Study 4b), and business skills (Study 4c). Finally, we demonstrate the asymmetry's real-world consequences in labor market segregation (Studies 5 and 6). Our findings shed light on the distinct experiences of racism encountered by different racial groups and, more critically, introduce a framework that unifies and integrates scattered empirical observations on perceptions of Asian people. G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are hepta-helical transmembrane proteins that mediate various intracellular signaling events in response to their specific ligands including many lipid mediators. Although analyses of GPCR molecular interactions are pivotal to understanding diverse intracellular signaling events, affinity purification of interacting proteins by a conventional co-immunoprecipitation method is challenging due to the hydrophobic nature of GPCRs and their dynamic molecular interactions. Proximity labeling catalyzed by a TurboID system is a powerful technique for defining the molecular interactions of target proteins in living cells. TurboID and miniTurbo (a modified version of TurboID) are engineered biotin ligases that biotinylate neighboring proteins in a promiscuous manner. When fused with a target protein and expressed in living cells, TurboID or miniTurbo mediates the biotin labeling of the proteins with close proximity to the target protein, allowing efficient purification of the biotinylated proteins followed by a shot-gun proteomic analysis. In this chapter, we describe a step-by-step protocol for the labeling of GPCR neighboring proteins by TurboID or miniTurbo, purification of the biotin-labeled proteins, and subsequent sample preparation for proteomic analysis. We utilized S1PR1 as a model GPCR, a receptor for a bioactive lipid molecule sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) that plays various roles in physiological and pathological conditions. This analysis pipeline enables the mapping of interacting proteins of lipid GPCRs in living cells.

The reactivity and stability of zero-valent iron (ZVI) and sulfidated zero-valent iron (S-ZVI) are inherently contradictory. Iron sulfides (FeSX) on the S-ZVI surface play multiple roles, including electrostatic adsorption and catalyzing reduction. We proposed to balance the reactivity and air stability of S-ZVI by regulating FeSX. Benefiting from the superior coordination and accelerate electron transport capabilities of phosphate, herein, eco-friendly ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (ADP) was employed to synthesize N, P, and S-incorporated ZVI (NPS-ZVI) and regulate the FeSX. Raman, FTIR, XPS, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were combined to reveal that HPO42- acts as the main P species on the Fe surface. The superior reactivity of NPS-ZVI was quantified by kobs, kSA, and kM of Cr(VI), which were 210.77, 27.44, and 211.17-fold than ZVI, respectively. NPS-ZVI demonstrated excellent reusability, with no risk of secondary pollution. Critically, NPS-ZVI could effectively maintain FeSX stability under the combination of diffusion limitation and surface protection mechanisms of ADP. The superior reactivity of NPS-ZVI was attributed to the fact that ADP maintains FeSX stability and accelerates electron transport. This study provides a novel strategy in balancing the reactivity and air stability of S-ZVI and offers theoretical support for material modification.

This retrospective study examined the clinical outcomes and complications in 6 cases of compound Meige's syndrome, presenting with blepharospasm and masticatory muscle spasm, following treatment with CT-guided radiofrequency ablation targeting bilateral facial nerves and mandibular branches of the trigeminal nerve. After the operation, the symptoms of eyelid spasm and masticatory muscle spasm resolved, but mild facial paralysis and numbness of mandibular nerve innervation persisted. Follow-up for 4-28 months showed that the symptoms of facial paralysis resolved within 2-5 (3.17 ± 0.94) months after the operation, whereas the numbness in the mandibular region persisted, accompanied by a decrease in masticatory function. During the follow-up period, none of the 6 patients experienced a recurrence of Meige's syndrome. These findings suggest that CT-guided radiofrequency ablation of the bilateral facial nerve and mandibular branches of the trigeminal nerve may offer a promising approach to treating compound Meige's syndrome.
