RESUMEN

Vibration and noise are ubiquitous in social life, which severely damage machinery and adversely affect human health. Thus, the development of materials with high-damping performance is of great importance. Rubbers are typically used as damping materials because of their unique viscoelasticity. However, they do not satisfy the requirements of different applications with various working conditions. In this study, the advantages of the high loss factor of styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) are combined with the strong designability of polyurethane. Hydroxyl-terminated solution-polymerized styrene butadiene rubbers (HTSSBRs) with different structures are prepared using anionic polymerization. HTSSBRs are then used as the soft segment during the synthesis of temperature-tunable high-damping performance polyurethanes (HTSSBR-polyurethanes (PUs)). The prepared HTSSBR-PUs with different structures exhibit excellent loss performance, a maximum loss factor (tan δmax ) of above 1.60, and an effective damping performance over a wide temperature range compared to traditional SBR and polyurethane. Therefore, this work offers an effective method for the design of damping materials with adjustable properties.

RESUMEN

A high-sensitivity bioaerosol monitor based on a single 365 nm LED is developed and a calibration approach is discussed for the first time. The fluorescence detection system, which is the core part of the monitor, contains an optical detection module and a fluorescence signal processor configured with a phase sensitive detector (PSD). B800 fluorescent microspheres and staphylococcus are used for performance evaluation of the monitor. B800 microspheres are appropriate as calibration material. The experimental results demonstrate the PSD plays a significant role in improving sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of detection. Our monitor can detect staphylococcus concentration above 1800 cfu/L of air stably.

RESUMEN

We present an investigation of the dynamics of centre-of-mass of a neutral particle cloud in a cavity pumped by an optical field. We derive an expression for the pump threshold for spatial self-organization of the particles and analyze its scaling laws in terms of the system parameters. Using a newly developed statistical model, we simulate the dynamics of the particles and numerically obtain the scaling laws. We show good agreement between the analytic formulae and simulations. We further use the scaling relation to discuss the operating conditions for cavity cooling a large ensemble of particles. Finally, we study cavity cooling of an ensemble of molecules with an initial temperature of around 10 mK. We show that 35% of the molecules are trapped by the optical field intensity in the cavity and a final temperature below 1 mK is reached.

RESUMEN

Up-converting phosphor technology (UPT)-based lateral-flow immunoassay has been developed for quantitative detection of Yersinia pestis rapidly and specifically. In this assay, 400 nm up-converting phosphor particles were used as the reporter. A sandwich immumoassay was employed by using a polyclonal antibody against F1 antigen of Y. pestis immobilized on the nitrocellulose membrane and the same antibody conjugated to the UPT particles. The signal detection of the strips was performed by the UPT-based biosensor that could provide a 980 nm IR laser to excite the phosphor particles, then collect the visible luminescence emitted by the UPT particles and finally convert it to the voltage as a signal. V T and V C stand for the multiplied voltage units for the test and the control line, respectively, and the ratio V T/V C is directly proportional to the number of Y. pestis in a sample. We observed a good linearity between the ratio and log CFU/ml of Y. pestis above the detection limit, which was approximately 104 CFU/ml. The precision of the intra- and inter-assay was below 15% (coefficient of variation, CV). Cross-reactivity with related Gram-negative enteric bacteria was not found. The UPT-LF immunoassay system presented here takes less than 30 min to perform from the sample treatment to the data analysis. The current paper includes only preliminary data concerning the biomedical aspects of the assay, but is more concentrated on the technical details of establishing a rapid manual assay using a state-of-the-art label chemistry.
