A catalogue of the Lonchaeidae (Diptera: Tephritoidea) and Teratomyzidae (Diptera: Opomyzoidea) of Chile

A catalogue of the Lonchaeidae and Teratomyzidae of Chile is presented. This paper comprises two genera with five species of Lonchaeidae and two genera with two species of Teratomyzidae known from Chile, including information about the name of the taxon, author, year of publication, page number, type species, type depository, type locality, and references. The geographical distributions of each species were determined by examination of bibliographic data and of label data on specimens in collections.(AU0

An annotated catalogue of Echinodermata types in the Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil

The types of nominal species of Echinodermata in the collection of the Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo are catalogued: Holothuroidea (19 species ­ 16 holotypes, 1 paratype and 2 neotypes) and Ophiuroidea (4 species ­ 1 neotype and 3 paratypes). Photographs of all the type specimens are given. A brief account of the history of the MZUSP's echinoderm collections is presented.(AU)

Illustrated catalogue of type specimens of Megalopodidae (Coleoptera) deposited at the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo

The Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZUSP) houses an important Megalopodidae collection representing 144 species, especially from Brazil and the Neotropical fauna. The type specimens of some species have never been accessed since their original descriptions, and are thus unknown to a major part of the Megalopodidae researchers. Presented here is an illustrated catalogue of the megalopodid type specimens of 32 species deposited at MZUSP, featuring photos of habitus and labels, and complete label data of all the specimens, which originally belonged to Jacintho Guérins personal collection. Conflicting and inconsistent data provided in the literature and in the specimens labels are addressed. Taxa originally proposed as species varieties are here reaffirmed as valid, with subspecific rank. Agathomerus varians Monrós, 1945 and Plesioagathomerus vittatus Monrós, 1945, originally described as junior synonyms, are considered unavailable names. The subspecific epithet ngriapex is emended into Agathomerus bifasciatus nigrapex Guérin, 1949. An overview of the MZUSP Megalopodidae collection is presented with a history of the arrival of Guérins specimens.(AU)

An illustrated catalogue of the types of Blephariceridae (Diptera) in the collection of Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil

Kelloggina Williston, 1907 is one of the least studied Blephariceridae genera in the world, despite being the most diverse in the Neotropics with 34 species. We provide a catalogue with the 14 nominal species of the genus described by Lane and dAndretta from the Southeastern Region of Brazil, of which the type-specimens are deposited at the Diptera Collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo. There are 60 specimens deposited at this museum, including male holotypes of 14 species and females “allotypes” (paratypes) for seven species. We include male diagnoses and photographs of the holotypes of all species.(AU)

Catalogue of Psocoptera (Insecta: Psocodea) types housed in the collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo

A catalogue of type specimens of Psocoptera (Insecta: Psocodea) deposited in the collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil, is presented and updated to February, 2019. 45 holotypes and 47 paratypes of 52 species were found, included in the suborders Psocomorpha and Trogiomorpha, and listed in the families Amphipsocidae, Asiopsocidae, Caeciliusidae (infraorder Caeciliusetae); Lachesillidae and Pseudocaeciliidae (infraorder Homilopsocidea); Philotarsidae (infraorder Philotarsetaea) Hemipsocidae, Myopsocidae and Psocidae (infraorder Psocetae); Ptiloneuridae (infraorder Epipsocetae), and Lepidopsocidae (infraorder Atropetae). The taxa are presented alphabetically by suborders, infraorders, families, subfamilies, tribes and genera, followed by species (updated to the valid name), bibliographic citation, type category, description of the type condition with collection number and method of preservation. In the present study, following a recommendation of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, it is presented a catalogue of the type specimens of Diadocidiidae and Ditomyiidae (Diptera: Bibionomorpha) held in the collection of the MZUSP. Label data and the condition of preservation of 27 type specimens (nine holotypes, two paralectotypes, and 16 paratypes) of 14 Neotropical species are provided.

Checklist of Gymnotiformes (Osteichthyes: Ostariophysi) and catalogue of primary types

A list of all valid names of species of Neotropical electric fishes (Gymnotiformes) is presented herein. The list is arranged by family and genus and includes all available synonyms. The list is comprehensive through 2016 and includes 240 valid species distributed among 34 genera and five families, including one monotypic genus known only from the fossil record. The presented classification reflects recently published interpretations about the validity of the included names which, in general, are widely accepted. When the validity of a particular name is disputed in recent literature, we followed one of the published interpretations and provide relevant information on the alternate interpretation(s) in the remarks section of that name. Synonymies of some names need to be considered tentative, inasmuch as the types underlying those names are either absent or appear to be based on more than one taxon. First reviser actions (e.g., lectotype and neotype designations, resolution of simultaneous synonyms, etc.) are reported and include erroneous subsequent attempts at problem resolutions. Herein, we include one new first reviser action by selecting Gymnotus aequilabiatus Humboldt, 1805, as type species of Sternopygus because previous attempts to select a type did not follow the provisions of the Code of Zoological Nomenclature.(AU)

A presente classificação reflete as recentes interpretações publicadas sobre a validade dos nomes incluídos, nos quais, em geral, são amplamente aceitos. Quando a validade de um nome em particular é disputada na literatura recente, nós seguimos uma das interpretações publicadas, e fornecemos informações relevantes sobre a(s) interpretação(ões) na seção de comentários do nome em questão. Sinônimos de alguns nomes precisam ser considerados com cautela, tendo em vista que os tipos para estes nomes são ausentes, ou parecem ser baseados em mais de um táxon. As primeira ações de revisão (e.g., designação de lectótipos e neótipos, resolução na designação simultânea de sinônimos, etc.) são registradas e incluem os esforços errôneos subsequentes para a solução do problema. This catalogue lists types of three ant subfamilies (Dolichoderinae, Formicinae and Martialinae) housed in the Formicidae Collection of the Hymenoptera Laboratory, Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP), Brazil. It provides label information, morphological condition of specimens, nomenclatural changes, and type status, following recommendations of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN). Here we present information on types of 101 nominal species, of which 96 are still valid. Eight species are only represented by holotypes, 27 species only by paratypes, seven by holotypes and paratypes, 56 species by syntypes, two species by paralectotypes and one species by a lectotype and paralectotypes. With this issue we complete the publication of information regarding all MZSP ant types, summing 4,741 specimens of 892 nomenclaturally valid species.

Este catálogo inclui os tipos de formigas de três subfamílias (Dolichoderinae, Formicinae and Martialinae) depositados na Coleção de Formicidae do Laboratório de Hymenoptera, Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP), Brasil. Apresentamos a informação de rótulos e sobre a condição morfológica dos espécimes, bem como as eventuais mudanças nomenclaturais e novos status taxonômicos seguindo as recomendações do Código Internacional de Nomenclatura Zoológica.
