ABSTRACT

A cross-sectional survey was conducted from February 2021 to June 2021, to assess the prevalence and nature of injuries among young professional cricketers from various academies and clubs in Lahore. The study comprised 149 cricketers representing different academies and clubs of Lahore. Injuries acquired between January and December 2019 were included as retrospective data. The findings revealed that 93 injuries were reported by 149 cricketers with a prevalence of 62.4%. Of these 41 (44%) injuries occurred during matches, 50 (54%) during practice, and 2 (2.1%) injuries were caused during fitness training. The head, neck, and face sustained 3 (3.2%) injuries, while the upper extremities received 35 (37.6%), the lower extremities 39 (41.9%), and the back and trunk 16 (17.2%). The most commonly injured players were fast bowlers 23 (24.7%). First time reported injuries were 66 (70.9%), while those repeated in the past were 16 (17.2%). Severe injuries were 21 (22%), due to which the players returned to the play after more than 21 days.

ABSTRACT

Codling moth (Cydia pomonella, Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) is a quarantine pest of apple in Ladakh, India. We report Cydia pomonella granulovirus from infected larvae of codling moth for the first time in India. The two CpGV isolates were identified as (CpGV SKUAST-1 and CpGV SKUAST-2) and published in Genbank under accession number, MK801791 and MK801792, respectively. The mortality of CpGV was evaluated against 3rd instar larvae of codling moth at various concentrations viz., 102, 104, 106, 108, 1010, 1012 and 1014 OBS/ml. The median lethal concentrations (LC50 and LC90) were observed at 7.08 and 28.56 OBS/ml, respectively. In field, the infection rate by CpGV was 5.95 to 15.65%. Based on typical infection symptoms on the larvae, morphological features under the microscope and sequence results of the amplified product confirmed the first occurrence of CpGV from India. Thus, CpGV will form an important non-chemical strategy for managing this pest.

ABSTRACT

Philadelphia (Ph)-positive chromosome or Ph translocation has been recognized in 90-95 chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cases worldwide. However, only 5-8% CML patients show complex variant translocations. In the present study, hematological tests for a 47-year-old female CML patient were performed to determine the hemoglobin, platelets and total leukocyte values. A FISH test was carried out to recognize the BCR/ABL gene fusion, and a cytogenetic analysis was performed. The hematological results showed an increase in WBC (414000/mm3) and a decrease in hemoglobin (8.9 mg/dl), indicating the anemic condition in the CML patient. Furthermore, cytogenetic karyotyping results showed 46,XX,t(6;9;22)(p21;q34;q11) and positive for Ph chromosome. In conclusion, in the present study, we report a rare three-way complex variant translocation in a CML patient.

ABSTRACT

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Cu(2)(C(16)H(31)O(2))(4)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)]·2CH(3)OH, contains one half-mol-ecule of the metal complex solvated by a methanol mol-ecule. In the complex, two of the metal atoms are doubly bridged by two monodentate bridging hexa-deca-noate ligands around a center of inversion. The square-pyramidal geometry around each Cu(II) ion is completed by a terminal hexa-deca-noate O atom and two N atoms from a 2,2'-bipyridine ligand. The alkyl chains of the carboxyl-ate ligands are arranged in a parallel manner with an all-trans conformation. In the crystal, a π-π inter-action formed by the bipyridine rings [centroid-centroid separation = 3.7723 (17) Å] and inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the complex mol-ecules into infinite chains along the b axis. An O-H⋯O interaction between the methanol solvate and one of the carboxylate O atoms is also observed.
