ABSTRACT

Nemeritis Holmgren, 1860 is a moderately species-rich genus of Campopleginae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) which includes 42 valid species, occurring in the Western Palearctic, Eastern Palearctic, Nearctic, and Oriental regions. Herein, a new species from Chile, Nemeritis scaramozzinoi sp. nov., is described. This is the first description of a species of Nemeritis for the Southern Hemisphere. The key for the New World species of the genus and biogeographical remarks on the Chilean fauna of Darwin wasps are also provided.

ABSTRACT

The genus Brachycyrtus is recorded for the first time from continental Africa. Three new species are described: Brachycyrtus antoninoi sp. n., B. cerrettii sp. n., and B. lucchii sp. n. A key to distinguish the newly described taxa is provided.

ABSTRACT

The genus Misetus Wesmael, 1845 is a small taxon of the subfamily Ichneumoninae, tribe Phaeogenini. The genus can be distinguished from other genera of the tribe by having mandible with two teeth, clypeus with more or less developed median apical tooth, genae short and sublinearly narrowed behind eyes in dorsal view; males are characterized by thyridia large and placed far off the base of metasomal tergite II; females are easily recognized by metasoma elongate and compressed apically, apical margin of last metasomal tergite more or less concave and ovipositor short and bent upwards (Selfa Diller 1994, 1995, Di Giovanni et al. 2018). Misetus includes seven known species, six of which occur in Europe (Wesmael 1845, Kusigemati 1974, Kolarov 1985, Selfa Diller 1995, Di Giovanni et al. 2018) and one in Japan and South Korea (Kwon et al. 2011; Yu et al. 2012). Misetus strumiai Di Giovanni, Scaramozzino Diller, 2018 was described recently from females known only from the island of Montecristo (Italy, Tuscany) (Di Giovanni et al. 2018, Di Giovanni Scaramozzino 2019). Here we described the male of this species and provide a comparative diagnosis with other known males of European members of the genus.

ABSTRACT

In this second review of the parasitoids recorded on Lobesia botrana (EGVM) in Italy, an updated list and summary of the information available on 14 taxa of Ichneumonidae belonging to the subfamilies Anomaloninae and Campopleginae are provided. For each taxon, geographic distributions, host ranges, ecological role in viticulture and/or in other crops, and taxonomy are provided and discussed. For the most interesting species, tables summarizing the parasitization rates recorded in the field on EGVM or other lepidopteran pests are given. Identification mistakes and wrong synonymies that have generated great confusion and often made geographic distributions and host ranges unreliable are highlighted. A list of four Anomaloninae and 27 Campopleginae recorded on EGVM in Europe is also provided. Among the species examined, Campoplex capitator Aubert is the only potential candidate for biological control of EGVM.

ABSTRACT

A new species, Misetus strumiai sp. n., from the island of Montecristo (Italy, Tuscany) is described and illustrated. The new species is characterized by having the clypeus with a small median tooth, metasomal tergite II almost entirely smooth and polished, and extensively red body color (except for black head). A comparative diagnosis is provided in order to distinguish the new taxon from the other known species of the genus Misetus Wesmael, 1845.

ABSTRACT

Brachyzapus Gauld Dubois, 2006 is a small genus belonging to the Polysphincta genus-group of the subfamily Pimplinae, with nine known species worldwide (Uchida Momoi, 1958; Yu et al., 2012; Pham et al., 2012). The genus can be recognized by twisted mandibles, a very weakly convex and rather long clypeus with quite well-defined angulation laterally, elongate lower face, sparse pubescence on the eyes, hind coxal cavities separated from the metasoma insertion by a very strong sclerotized bridge, and the lack of a basal lobe on the ovipositor (Gauld Dubois, 2006).

ABSTRACT

We provide a general overview of features and technical specifications of an original interactive key web application for the identification of Palaearctic Tachinidae genera. The full list of terminal taxa included in the key, which is the most updated list of genera currently recorded for the Palaearctic Region, is given. We also briefly discuss the need for dealing with detailed and standardized taxa descriptions as a base to keep matrix-based interactive tools easily updated, by proposing a standardized protocol.
