A new zirconium and cerium-modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (NaCMC) film (PVA/CMC-Zr-Ce) was synthesized thru a high-speed shear-assisted method and its adsorption for the removal of fluoride was studied, in which the NaCMC provided -COONa for ion exchange between Na and Zr-Ce, thus the loading amount of Zr-Ce on films was accordingly increased. The morphology and structure of PVA/CMC-Zr-Ce were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Besides, the mechanical properties, water contact angle, and swelling ratio of film were also evaluated. The addition of high-speed shear improved the dispersion of the emulsion system, and PVA/CMC-Zr-Ce film with good adsorption performance and film stability was prepared. While, it was found that the adsorption capacity could reach 67.25 mg/g and equilibrium time could reach 20 min. The adsorption mechanism of PVA/CMC-Zr-Ce revealed that ion exchange between hydroxide and fluoride, electrostatic interactions and complexation were the dominating influencing factors. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that PVA/CMC-Zr-Ce film- synthesized with high-speed shear assistance technique is a promising adsorbent for fluoride removal from water.

Fetal adenocarcinoma of the lung (FLAC) is a rare form of lung adenocarcinoma and was divided into high-grade (H-FLAC) and low-grade (L-FLAC) subtypes. Despite the existence of some small case series studies, a comprehensive multi-omics study of FLAC has yet to be undertaken. In this study, we depicted the multi-omics landscapes of this rare lung cancer type by performing multi-regional sampling on 20 FLAC cases. A comparison of multi-omics profiles revealed significant differences between H-FLAC and L-FLAC in a multi-omic landscape. Two subtypes also showed distinct relationships between multi-layer intratumor heterogeneity (ITH). We discovered that a lower genetic ITH was significantly associated with worse recurrence-free survival and overall survival in FLAC patients, whereas higher methylation ITH in H-FLAC patients suggested a short survival. Our findings highlight the complex interplay between genetic and transcriptional heterogeneity in FLAC and suggest that different types of ITH may have distinct implications for patient prognosis.

Radiotherapy combined with immune checkpoint blockade holds great promise for synergistic antitumor efficacy. Targeted radionuclide therapy delivers radiation directly to tumor sites. LNC1004 is a fibroblast activation protein (FAP)-targeting radiopharmaceutical, conjugated with the albumin binder Evans Blue, which has demonstrated enhanced tumor uptake and retention in previous preclinical and clinical studies. Herein, we demonstrate that 68Ga/177Lu-labeled LNC1004 exhibits increased uptake and prolonged retention in MC38/NIH3T3-FAP and CT26/NIH3T3-FAP tumor xenografts. Radionuclide therapy with 177Lu-LNC1004 induced a transient upregulation of PD-L1 expression in tumor cells. The combination of 177Lu-LNC1004 and anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy led to complete eradication of all tumors in MC38/NIH3T3-FAP tumor-bearing mice, with mice showing 100% tumor rejection upon rechallenge. Immunohistochemistry, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), and TCR sequencing revealed that combination therapy reprogrammed the tumor microenvironment in mice to foster antitumor immunity by suppressing malignant progression and increasing cell-to-cell communication, CD8+ T-cell activation and expansion, M1 macrophage counts, antitumor activity of neutrophils, and T-cell receptor diversity. A preliminary clinical study demonstrated that 177Lu-LNC1004 was well-tolerated and effective in patients with refractory cancers. Further, scRNA-seq of peripheral blood mononuclear cells underscored the importance of addressing immune evasion through immune checkpoint blockade treatment. This was emphasized by the observed increase in antigen processing and presentation juxtaposed with T cell inactivation. In conclusion, our data supported the efficacy of immunotherapy combined with 177Lu-LNC1004 for cancer patients with FAP-positive tumors.

Aim: This population-based analysis aimed to explore the associations among marital status, prognosis and treatment of stage I non-small-cell lung cancer. Materials & methods: The propensity score matching (PSM), logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards model were used in this study. Results: A total of 13,937 patients were included. After PSM, 10579 patients were co-insured. The married were more likely to receive surgical treatment compared with the unmarried patients (OR: 1.841, p < 0.001), and patients who underwent surgery also tended to have better survival (HR: 0.293, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Compared with unmarried patients, a married group with stage I NSCLC had timely treatment and more satisfactory survival. This study highlights the importance of prompt help and care for unmarried patients.

Salt stress is a well-known abiotic constraint that hampers crop productivity, affecting more than 424 million hectares of topsoil worldwide. Applying plant growth regulators externally has proven effective in enhancing crop resilience to salt stress. Previous metabolomics studies revealed an accumulation of Valine-Threonine-Isoleucine-Aspartic acid (VTID) in salt-stressed maize seedlings, suggesting its potential to assist maize adaptation to salt stress. To explore the effectiveness of VTID in enhancing salt tolerance in maize, 10 nM VTID was applied to salt-stressed maize seedlings. The results showed a remarkable 152.29% increase in plant height and a 122.40% increase in fresh weight compared to salt-stressed seedlings. Moreover, the addition of VTID enhanced the activity of antioxidant enzymes, specifically superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), while reducing the level of malondialdehyde (MDA), a marker of oxidative stress. Additionally, VTID supplementation resulted in a significant increase in osmoregulatory substances such as proline. Metabolomic analysis revealed substantial changes in the metabolite profile of maize seedlings when treated with VTID during salt stress. Differential metabolites (DMs) analysis revealed that the identified DMs primarily belonged to lipids and lipid-like molecules. The receiver operating characteristic curve and linear regression analysis determined a correlation between isodolichantoside and the height of maize seedlings under salt-stress conditions. In conclusion, these findings validate that VTID effectively regulates tolerance in maize seedlings and offers valuable insights into the potential of short peptides for mitigating salt stress.

Clinical studies have proved that both structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) are implicitly associated with neuropsychiatric disorders (NDs), and integrating multi-modal to the binary classification of NDs has been thoroughly explored. However, accurately classifying multiple classes of NDs remains a challenge due to the complexity of disease subclass. In our study, we develop a heterogeneous neural network (H-Net) that integrates sMRI and fMRI modes for classifying multi-class NDs. To account for the differences between the two modes, H-Net adopts a heterogeneous neural network strategy to extract information from each mode. Specifically, H-Net includes an multi-layer perceptron based (MLP-based) encoder, a graph attention network based (GAT-based) encoder, and a cross-modality transformer block. The MLP-based and GAT-based encoders extract semantic features from sMRI and features from fMRI, respectively, while the cross-modality transformer block models the attention of two types of features. In H-Net, the proposed MLP-mixer block and cross-modality alignment are powerful tools for improving the multi-classification performance of NDs. H-Net is validate on the public dataset (CNP), where H-Net achieves 90% classification accuracy in diagnosing multi-class NDs. Furthermore, we demonstrate the complementarity of the two MRI modalities in improving the identification of multi-class NDs. Both visual and statistical analyses show the differences between ND subclasses.

Objectives: Primary pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (PLELC) is a subtype of lung carcinoma associated with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). The clinical predictive biomarkers of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) in PLELC require further investigation. Methods: We prospectively analysed EBV levels in the blood and immune tumor biomarkers of 31 patients with ICB-treated PLELC. Viral EBNA-1 and BamHI-W DNA fragments in the plasma were quantified in parallel using quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results: Progression-free survival (PFS) was significantly longer in EBNA-1 high or BamHI-W high groups. A longer PFS was also observed in patients with both high plasma EBNA-1 or BamHI-W and PD-L1 ≥ 1%. Intriguingly, the tumor mutational burden was inversely correlated with EBNA-1 and BamHI-W. Plasma EBV load was negatively associated with intratumoral CD8+ immune cell infiltration. Dynamic changes in plasma EBV DNA level were in accordance with the changes in tumor volume. An increase in EBV DNA levels during treatment indicated molecular progression that preceded the imaging progression by several months. Conclusions: Plasma EBV DNA could be a useful and easy-to-use biomarker for predicting the clinical activity of ICB in PLELC and could serve to monitor disease progression earlier than computed tomography imaging.

Patient-based real-time QC (PBRTQC) uses patient-derived data to assess assay performance. PBRTQC algorithms have advanced in parallel with developments in computer science and the increased availability of more powerful computers. The uptake of Artificial Intelligence in PBRTQC has been rapid, with many stated advantages over conventional approaches. However, until this review, there has been no critical comparison of these. The PBRTQC algorithms based on moving averages, regression-adjusted real-time QC, neural networks and anomaly detection are described and contrasted. As Artificial Intelligence tools become more available to laboratories, user-friendly and computationally efficient, the major disadvantages, such as complexity and the need for high computing resources, are reduced and become attractive to implement in PBRTQC applications.

The study aimed to investigate the effects of aspirin on patients with metastatic colorectal cancer, focusing on circulating tumor DNA levels and bone tissue. Two groups (A and B) of ten patients with osteoporosis were selected for the study. Bone tissue samples were obtained from the patients and cultured under sterile conditions. The aspirin group showed a significant decrease in circulating tumor DNA levels and an increase in bone tissue density compared to the control group. Additionally, osteoblast apoptosis was reduced, while proliferation was enhanced in the aspirin group. The protein pAkt related to the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway was upregulated in the aspirin group. These results indicate that aspirin can effectively lower circulating tumor DNA levels, promote bone tissue proliferation, inhibit apoptosis, and activate the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, thereby influencing bone cell function. These findings provide a basis for aspirin's potential application in treating metastatic colorectal cancer and encourage further research on its mechanism and clinical use.

Parental experiences can affect the phenotypic plasticity of offspring. In locusts, the population density that adults experience regulates the number and hatching synchrony of their eggs, contributing to locust outbreaks. However, the pathway of signal transmission from parents to offspring remains unclear. Here, we find that transcription factor Forkhead box protein N1 (FOXN1) responds to high population density and activates the polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1 (Ptbp1) in locusts. FOXN1-PTBP1 serves as an upstream regulator of miR-276, a miRNA to control egg-hatching synchrony. PTBP1 boosts the nucleo-cytoplasmic transport of pre-miR-276 in a "CU motif"-dependent manner, by collaborating with the primary exportin protein exportin 5 (XPO5). Enhanced nuclear export of pre-miR-276 elevates miR-276 expression in terminal oocytes, where FOXN1 activates Ptbp1 and leads to egg-hatching synchrony in response to high population density. Additionally, PTBP1-prompted nuclear export of pre-miR-276 is conserved in insects, implying a ubiquitous mechanism to mediate transgenerational effects.

CONTEXT: The mechanisms of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Guizhi-Gancao Decoction (GGD) remain unknown. OBJECTIVE: This study explores the mechanisms of GGD against cardiac hypertrophy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Network pharmacology analysis was carried out to identify the potential targets of GGD. In vivo experiments, C57BL/6J mice were divided into Con, phenylephrine (PE, 10 mg/kg/d), 2-chloroadenosine (CADO, the stable analogue of adenosine, 2 mg/kg/d), GGD (5.4 g/kg/d) and GGD (5.4 g/kg/d) + CGS15943 (a nonselective adenosine receptor antagonist, 4 mg/kg/d). In vitro experiments, primary neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCM) were divided into Con, PE (100 µM), CADO (5 µM), GGD (10-5 g/mL) and GGD (10-5 g/mL) + CGS15943 (5 µM). Ultrasound, H&E and Masson staining, hypertrophic genes expression and cell surface area were conducted to verify the GGD efficacy. Adenosine receptors (ADORs) expression were tested via real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), western blotting and immunofluorescence analysis. RESULTS: Network pharmacology identified ADORs among those of the core targets of GGD. In vitro experiments demonstrated that GGD attenuated PE-induced increased surface area (with an EC50 of 5.484 × 10-6 g/mL). In vivo data shown that GGD attenuated PE-induced ventricular wall thickening. In vitro and in vivo data indicated that GGD alleviated PE-induced hypertrophic gene expression (e.g., ANP, BNP and MYH7/MYH6), A1AR over-expression and A2aAR down-expression. Moreover, CADO exerts effects similar to GGD, whereas CGS15943 eliminated most effects of GGD. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest the mechanism by which GGD inhibits cardiac hypertrophy, highlighting regulation of ADORs as a potential therapeutic strategy for HF.

BACKGROUND: The link between diabetes and dementia risk is not well understood. This study evaluates the factors linking diabetes to dementia onset, providing guidance for preventing dementia in diabetic patients. METHODS: This analysis utilized databases such as PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library to review literature from January 31, 2012, to March 5, 2023. Articles were rigorously assessed using specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to evaluate the quality of the studies. Data analysis was performed with STATA 15.0. RESULTS: The study analyzed 15 articles, covering 10,103,868 patients, with 8,821,516 diagnosed with diabetes. The meta-analysis reveals a substantial association between diabetes and an increased risk of dementia [RR: 1.59, 95%CI (1.40-1.80), P < 0.01, I²=96.4%]. A diabetes duration of less than five years is linked to a higher dementia risk [RR: 1.29, 95%CI (1.20-1.39), P < 0.01, I²=92.6%]. Additionally, hypoglycemia significantly raises dementia risk [RR: 1.56, 95%CI (1.13-2.16), P < 0.01, I²=51.5%]. Analyses of blood sugar control, glycated hemoglobin, and fasting blood sugar indicated no significant effects on the onset of dementia. CONCLUSION: Diabetes notably increases dementia risk, particularly where diabetes duration is under five years or hypoglycemia is present. 2D layered molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) has garnered considerable attention as an attractive electrode material in sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), but sluggish mass transfer kinetic and capacity fading make it suffer from inferior cycle capability. Herein, hierarchical MoS2 nanosheets decorated porous TiO2 nanofibers (MoS2 NSs@TiO2 NFs) with rich oxygen vacancies are engineered by microemulsion electrospinning method and subsequent hydrothermal/heat treatment. The MoS2 NSs@TiO2 NFs improves ion/electron transport kinetic and long-term cycling performance through distinctive porous structure and heterogeneous component. Consequently, the electrode exhibits excellent long-term Na storage capacity (298.4 mAh g-1 at 5 A g-1 over 1100 cycles and 235.6 mAh g-1 at 10 A g-1 over 7200 cycles). Employing Na3V2(PO4)3 as cathode, the full cell maintains a desirable capacity of 269.6 mAh g-1 over 700 cycles at 1.0 A g-1. The stepwise intercalation-conversion and insertion/extraction endows outstanding Na+ storage performance, which yields valuable insight into the advancement of fast-charging and long-cycle life SIBs anode materials.

Constant proportionalities between cells and their intracellular organelles have been widely observed in various types of cells, known as intracellular size scaling. However, the mechanism underlying the size scaling and its modulation by environmental factors in multicomponent systems remain poorly understood. Here, we study the size scaling of membrane-less condensates using microdroplet-encapsulated minimalistic condensates formed by droplet microfluidics and mean-field theory. We demonstrate that the size scaling of condensates is an inherent characteristic of liquid-liquid phase separation. This concept is supported by experiments showing the occurrence of size scaling phenomena in various condensate systems and a generic lever rule acquired from mean-field theory. Moreover, it is found that the condensate-to-microdroplet scaling ratio can be affected by the solute and salt concentrations, with good agreement between experiments and predictions by theory. Notably, we identify a noise buffering mechanism whereby condensates composed of large macromolecules effectively maintain constant volumes and counteract concentration fluctuations of small molecules. This mechanism is achieved through the dynamic rearrangement of small molecules in and out of membrane-free interfaces. Our work provides crucial insights into understanding mechanistic principles that govern the size of cells and intracellular organelles as well as associated biological functions.

In prior investigations, a correlation was established between patient outcomes in locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC) following thoracic irradiation and parameters, such as pre/post-treatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and NLR change (ΔNLR). However, these parameters could potentially be influenced by radiation-related variables, such as gross tumor volume (GTV). The primary aim of this study was to elucidate the factors impacting post-treatment NLR and ΔNLR and to further assess their prognostic relevance. In this retrospective study, a cohort of 188 LA-NSCLC patients who underwent thoracic radiation between 2012 and 2017 was assessed. The calculation of pre/post-treatment NLR involved the use of absolute neutrophil and lymphocyte counts. ΔNLR was defined as the difference between post- and pre-treatment NLR values. To assess the relationships between various variables and overall survival (OS), local progression-free survival (LPFS), and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), the Kaplan-Meier technique and Cox proportional hazards regression were employed. Additionally, Spearman's rank correlation analysis was carried out to investigate correlations between the variables. The analysis revealed that both post-treatment NLR (r = 0.315, P < 0.001) and ΔNLR (r = 0.156, P = 0.032) were associated with GTV. However, OS, LPFS, and DMFS were not independently correlated with pre/post-treatment NLR. ΔNLR, on the other hand, exhibited independent associations with OS and DMFS (HR = 1.054, P = 0.020, and P = 0.046, respectively). Elevated ΔNLR values were linked to poorer OS (P = 0.023) and DMFS (P = 0.018) in the Kaplan-Meier analysis. Furthermore, when stratifying by GTV, a higher ΔNLR remained to be associated with worse OS and DMFS (P = 0.047 and P = 0.035, respectively) in the GTV ≤ 67.41 cm3 group, and in the GTV > 67.41 cm3 group (P = 0.028 and P = 0.042, respectively), highlighting ΔNLR as the sole independent predictive factor for survival and metastasis, irrespective of GTV.

Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) secreted by human umbilical cord have therapeutic effects on various degenerative diseases. However, the characteristics and potential functions of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (huMSCs)-derived sEVs, especially the role of premature ovarian failure (POF), are poorly understood. Here, we isolated and characterized huMSCs and their sEVs. huMSCs highly expressed CD73, CD90, and CD105. huMSC-sEVs showed typical exosomal features, highly expressing CD9, TSG101, and CD63. It was shown that huMSC-sEVs could be taken up by granulosa cells (GCs) and damaged ovarian tissue, which increased the levels of hormone secretion and reduced GCs apoptosis. We further confirmed that the levels of follicle-stimulating hormone in rat serum decreased dramatically, while the levels of estrogen (E2)and anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) increased significantly with the treatment of huMSC-sEVs. Meanwhile, huMSC-sEVs treatment greatly reduced cell apoptosis and autophagy, while increased the phosphorylation levels of p-PI3K and p-Akt. Therefore, treatment with huMSC-sEVs significantly inhibited GCs apoptosis, improved ovarian morphology, promoted follicular development, inhibited follicular over-atresia, and improved ovarian reserve capacity in POF rats. Our study verified that activation of PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and regulation of cellular autophagy, thus reducing GCs death, are the mechanisms by which huMSC-sEVs restore ovarian tissue function.

BACKGROUND: REBOA is a method used to manage bleeding during surgery involving sacropelvic tumors. Nevertheless, studies on the use of REBOA among elderly people are lacking. The aim of this research was to investigate the efficacy and safety of Zone III REBOA in patients aged more than 70 years. METHODS: A comparative study was conducted using case-control methods. A group of patients, referred to as Group A, who were younger than 70 years was identified and paired with a comparable group of patients, known as Group B, who were older than 70 years. Continuous monitoring of physiological parameters was conducted, and blood samples were collected at consistent intervals. RESULTS: Totally, 188 participants were enrolled and received REBOA. Among the 188 patients, seventeen were aged more than 70 years. By implementing REBOA, the average amount of blood loss was only 1427 ml. Experiments were also conducted to compare Group A and Group B. No notable differences were observed in terms of demographic variables, systolic blood pressure (SBP), arterial pH, lactate levels, blood creatinine levels, potassium levels, or calcium levels at baseline. Additionally, after the deflation of the REBOA, laboratory test results, which included arterial pH, lactate, potassium concentration, calcium concentration, and blood creatinine concentration, were not significantly different (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: This study indicated that in selected patients aged more than 70 years can achieve satisfactory hemodynamic and metabolic stability with Zone III REBOA. Connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) is an important underlying cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with CTD. Serum Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6) is an immune factor which has been related to the severity of ILD. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the association between serum KL-6 and mortality of patients with CTD-ILD. Longitudinal studies relevant to the aim of the meta-analysis were retrieved by search of electronic databases including PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase. A random-effects model was used to combine the data by incorporating the influence of between-study heterogeneity. Fifteen cohorts involving 1737 patients with CTD-ILD were included. During a mean follow-up of 35.3 months, 430 (24.8%) patients died. Compared to those with a lower KL-6 at admission, patients with a higher KL-6 were associated with a higher mortality risk during follow-up (risk ratio: 2.18, 95% confidence interval: 1.66 to 2.87, P < 0.001; I2 = 20%). Subgroup analysis showed a significant association in studies from Asian countries, but not in those from non-Asian countries; in studies with cutoff of KL-6 derived in receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, but not in those derived from other methods; in studies with multivariate analysis, but not in those with univariate analysis (P for subgroup difference all < 0.05). The association was not significantly affected by different CTDs or methods for measuring serum KL-6. In conclusion, a high serum KL-6 may be a risk factor of increased mortality in patients with CTD-ILD.

BACKGROUND: Cold agglutinins (CAs) in blood samples can cause a reversible agglutination of red blood cell (RBC) which result in an incorrect complete blood count (CBC). So, it is important to explore new simple and feasible treatment conditions for clinical work. METHODS: The CAs group included 32 samples with CAs. The parameters of CBC at room temperature or after prewarming at 37°C or 41°C for different time periods were compared. The consistency and correlation of those parameters were analyzed. The morphology of erythrocytes in the CAs group was observed manually. The control group included 45 samples without CAs and prewarmed at 37°C or 41°C for different time periods. The differences were also analyzed. RESULTS: CAs have a significant effect on CBC. After prewarming at 37°C or 41°C the interferences are all corrected. Consider prewarming at 37°C for 120 minutes as the standard procedure. The consistency and correlation analysis showed there was no statistical difference between the results of each subgroup and standard group, except the MCHC of group 41°C 10 minutes. The correlation of parameters between all subgroups and the standard group is satisfied. Microscopic examination showed no RBC aggregation or fragmentation after prewarming at 41°C or 37°C. According to the maximum bias requirements for expert performance in Validation, Verification, and Quality Assurance of Automated Hematology Analyzers, 2nd Edition (CLSI H26-A2), the differences in overall results in control group are negligible. CONCLUSIONS: The 41°C 2 minutes prewarming method is a rapid and effective way for treating samples with CAs. It is an efficient way to obtain more reliable CBC results, without specific instruments.

Urban populations, especially women, are vunerable to exposure to airborne pollution, particularly inhalable particulates (PM10). Thus, more accurate measurement of PM10 levels and evaluating their health effects is critical for guiding policy to improve human health. Previous studies obtained personal PM10 with time-weighted average by air filter-based sampling (AFS), which ignores individual differences and behavioral patterns. Here, we used nasal filters instead of AFS to obtain actual inhaled PM10 under short-term exposure for urban dwelling women during a severe haze event in Beijing in 2016. The levels of six heavy metals such as As, Cd, Ni, Cr, Pb, and Co in PM10 were investigated, and carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks evaluated based on an adjusted US EPA health risk assessment model. The health endpoints for urban dwelling women were further assessed through an exposure-reponse model. We found that the hourly inhaled dose of PM10 obtained through the nasal filter was about 2.5-17.6 times that obtained by AFS, which also resulted in 4.41-11.30 times more morbidity than estimated by AFS (p < 0.05). Proximity to traffic emissions resulted in greater exposure to particulate matter (>18.8 µg/kg·h) and heavy metals (>2.2 ng/kg·h), and these populations are therefore at greatest risk of developing non-cancer (HI = 4.16) and cancer (Rt = 7.8 × 10-3) related morbities.
