ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Over the past 15 years, World Neurosurgery (WN) has emerged as a pivotal source in the neurosurgery field, reflecting remarkable growth and development. Originally published as Surgical Neurology from 1973 to 2009, the journal transitioned to its current title in 2010, significantly expanding its reach and influence. METHODS: A comprehensive bibliometric analysis of WN's publications from 1973 to 2023 was performed. The analysis focused on identifying the top authors, universities, countries, and sponsors in two periods: 1973-2009 and 2010-2023. Additionally, the study included a detailed examination of the top 1,000 most cited papers, and summary of top 10 most cited papers. RESULTS: The analysis revealed that during the Surgical Neurology period, 6,567 research documents were published, including 6,503 articles and 64 reviews. Since rebranding as World Neurosurgery, the journal has published an additional 17,663 documents, comprising 15,366 articles and 2,297 reviews up to 2023. The top contributors (authors, universities, and sponsors) were identified, and the study found that WN has successfully increased its foothold across various continents. The co-word analysis provided insights into the thematic focus of the top 1,000 most cited papers, categorizing them into 15 distinct areas. CONCLUSION: This study underscores World Neurosurgery's significant role in advancing neurosurgical research over the past five decades. The findings highlight the journal's evolution, its expanding global influence, and the key contributors to its success.

ABSTRACT

The project aimed to conduct an up-to-date and comprehensive bibliometric analysis of robotic surgery to provide a detailed and holistic understanding of the field. Three strategies were employed in the data analysis i.e. search terms were explored in (A) the title, abstract, and keywords and (B) only in the title of the documents. In 3rd part we analyzed the top 100 most cited papers. Vosviewer and R Studio were utilized for detailed bibliometric and network analyses. Strategy one identified 38,469 publications, and strategy two identified 6451 publications from 2001 to 2023. The top authors, universities, countries, sponsors, and sources based on the number of publications were identified for both strategies. The top 100 most cited papers were analyzed, providing the annual number of publications and various citation metrics. Top authors (by number of publications, total citations, h-index, g-index, and m-index), universities, and countries within these highly cited papers, along with their co-authorship networks and dynamics, were examined. Co-words analysis of the top 100 most cited papers revealed the primary focus of these documents across 25 categories. This comprehensive bibliometric analysis of robotic surgery highlighted significant contributions and collaborations in the field, emphasizing the importance of global and collaborative efforts in advancing robotic surgery research.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of meningioma research, focusing on publication trends, top authors, universities, countries, and thematic analysis of keywords. METHODS: From Scopus databases, first we analyzed 23,180 papers (or 19,824 articles and 3356 reviews) published between 2001 and 2023. Second, we selected the top 100 most cited papers and descriptively analyzed on Vosviewer and R Studio (bibliometrix/biblioshiny). RESULTS: For both sets, we highlighted the annual publication trends and the impact of top-cited papers. We identified leading authors, universities, and countries contributing significantly to the field. Keyword analysis categorized research themes across all papers. Specific focus was given to the top 100 most cited documents in meningioma. Details about the annual number of papers, mean citations per year, and the citable years are provided. The top authors are presented by number of publications, citations, h-index, g-index, and m-index. Co-word analysis was performed, and the main focus of the 100 most cited papers are presented in more than 20 categories. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings may provide insights into the evolution of meningioma research and its scholarly impact. The analysis underscores the pivotal contributions of top authors and institutions, outlines thematic research trends, and highlights areas of significant interest and growth in the field. Our study may contribute to understanding the landscape of meningioma research, guiding future research directions and collaborations.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the present study was to analyze the trends of neurosurgical research in low and lower middle-income countries (LLMICs). METHODS: The data was retrieved from Scopus database and 82 neurosurgical journals were analyzed. RESULTS: Initially the global research scholarly output (n = 195,658) was explored and later papers originating solely from LLMICs, without international collaboration with advance countries (n = 8408) were analyzed. The per decade number of publications (from 1920 to May 2024), top ten authors, universities, countries and sources of all (global) countries, and 98 LLMICs is provided. Eighty countries have published less than 50 papers. Even more striking, 68, 55, 38, and 36 LLMICs countries have produced less than 20, 10, 5, and 3 papers, respectively. The keywords analysis was performed to present the main focus of 8408 publications. The top 1000 most cited documents were also identified, and later relevant scientometrics details were provided. The top countries dynamic and most prolific authors (on the basis of number of publications, total citations, h-index, g-index, and m-index) in the top 1000 cited documents (from LLMICs) are highlighted. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that neurosurgical research in LLMICs is low, which could be attributed to several factors including limited funding, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient training opportunities.

ABSTRACT

Drought is an inevitable environmental stress that drastically hampers the growth, productivity, and quality of food crops. Exogenous sodium nitroprusside and spermidine have decisive functions in the growth enhancement of plants; nevertheless, their specific role in mediating stress responses to improve drought tolerance in sunflowers at the reproductive stage (terminal drought) remains largely unknown. In the present study, we explored the positive effects of sodium nitroprusside and spermidine on physiological responses to increase in sunflower yield during periods of terminal drought. Initially, various doses (50, 100, 150, 200, 400 µM) for each sodium nitroprusside or spermidine were foliar sprayed to improve water content, chlorophylls, and biomass accumulation in sunflower seedlings under control (100% FC) and drought (60% FC) conditions. Optimized rates (100 µM for sodium nitroprusside) and (100 µM for spermidine) were further tested alone and in combination to assess drought tolerance potential and their ultimate impact on yield under drought stress. Drought exposure caused a marked reduction in relative water content (26%) and chlorophyll a (31%) and b (35%) contents; however, sodium nitroprusside and spermidine at 100 µM significantly improved the growth of sunflower (13%). Furthermore, combined use of sodium nitroprusside and spermidine at 100 + 100 µM markedly improved the achenes per head (16%), 1000-achene weight (14%), and ultimately grain (28%) and oil (21%) yields of sunflowers under drought stress. A strong association was found between the 1000-achene weight and the achene yield of sunflower. Hence, combined sodium nitroprusside and spermidine upregulate water balance and chlorophyll contents to increase sunflower yield under terminal drought.

ABSTRACT

Sodium chloride (NaCl) can cause oxidative stress in plants, which represents a potential obstacle to the development of monocultures worldwide. Onion (Allium cepa L.) is a famous vegetable consumed and used in world cuisine. In the present study, we analyzed the influence of soil physicochemical profile and the remedial capacity of linalool on seed emergence, roots, and leaf growth in onions subjected to salt stress, as well as its in vivo and in vitro antioxidant potential, Fe2+chelating activity, and reducing power of Fe3+. The outcome of the soil analysis established the following order of abundance: sulfur (S) > calcium (Ca) > potassium (K) > magnesium (Mg) > sodium (Na). NaCl (150 mM) significantly reduced the emergence speed index (ESI), leaf and root length, while increasing the peroxidation content. The length of leaves and roots significantly increased after treatment with linalool (300 and 500 µg/mL). Our data showed negative correlations between seed emergence and K+ concentration, which was reversed after treatments. Linalool (500 µg/mL) significantly reduced oxidative stress, but increased Fe2+ concentration and did not show potential to reduce Fe3+. The in vivo antioxidant effect of linalool is thought to primarily result from an enzymatic activation process. This mechanism underscores its potential as a therapeutic agent for oxidative stress-related conditions. Further investigation into this process could unveil new avenues for antioxidant therapy.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to elucidate the landscape of machine learning applications in ischemia research. METHODS: The analysis can be divided in three sections: part 1 scrutinizes articles and reviews with "ischemia" in their titles, while part 2 further narrows the focus to publications containing both "ischemia" and "machine learning" in their titles. Additionally, part 3 delves into the examination of the top 50 most cited papers, exploring their thematic focus and co-word dynamics. RESULTS: The findings reveal a significant increase in publications over the years, with notable trends identified through detailed analysis. The growth in publication counts over time, the leading contributors, institutions, geographical distribution of research output and journals are numerically presented for part 1 and part 2. For the top 50 most cited papers the dynamics of co-words, which offer a nuanced understanding of thematic trends and emerging concepts, are presented. Based on the number of citations the top 10 authors were selected, and later for each, total number of publications, h-index, g-index and m-index are provided. Additionally, figures depicting the co-authorship network among authors, departments, and countries involved in the top 50 cited papers may enrich our comprehension of collaborative networks in ischemia research. CONCLUSION: This comprehensive bibliometric analysis provides valuable insights into the evolving landscape of machine learning applications in ischemia research.

ABSTRACT

In an era marked by the exponential growth of scientific production, bibliometric analysis (BA) has emerged as indispensable tool for understanding the dynamics of research fields. In this review, we tried to provide a few tips which can be incorporated in BA. For instance; (a) solely presenting the number of publications per year is not an ideal approach. There is need to provide (at least) per-year citations and the total h-index of all publications, which may offer more nuanced and informative perspective on research productivity and influence. (b) traditionally, a researcher's performance has been assessed primarily through the number of publications and the h-index. While these metrics offer valuable insights into scholarly output and citation impact, this review aims to broaden the perspective on researcher evaluation by exploring a diverse array of alternative performance indicators. (c) co-word occurrence analysis has been a cornerstone for identifying thematic relationships among publications. We presented a few simple concepts i.e. keywords dynamic, and trends alongside traditional co-word analysis. The normal procedure of BA involves, data collection, publication trends, authorship and collaboration, citation analysis, keyword analysis, geographical and institutional trends, journal analysis, research impact, and visualization. We tried to provide some theoretical foundation, which may help the readers understand the context and principles behind the analysis.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: At Sandwell General Hospital, there was no risk stratification tool or pathway for head injury (HI) patients presenting to the emergency department (ED). This resulted in significant delays in the assessment of HI patients, compromising patient safety and quality of care. AIMS: To employ quality improvement methodology to design an effective adult HI pathway that: ensured >90% of high-risk HI patients being assessed by ED clinicians within 15 min of arrival, reduce CT turnaround times, and aiming to keep the final decision making <4 hours. METHODS: SWOT analysis was performed; driver diagrams were used to set out the aims and objectives. Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle was used to facilitate the change and monitor the outcomes. Process map was designed to identify the areas for improvement. A new HI pathway was introduced, imaging and transporting the patients was modified, and early decisions were made to meet the standards. RESULTS: Data were collected and monitored following the interventions. The new pathway improved the proportion of patients assessed by the ED doctors within 15 min from 31% to 63%. The average time to CT head scan was decreased from 69 min to 53 min. Average CT scan reporting time also improved from 98 min to 71 min. Overall, the average time to decision for admission or discharge decreased from 6 hours 48 min to 4 hours 24 min. CONCLUSIONS: Following implementation of the new HI pathway, an improvement in the patient safety and quality of care was noted. High-risk HI patients were picked up earlier, assessed quicker and had CT head scans performed sooner. Decision time for admission/discharge was improved. The HI pathway continues to be used and will be reviewed and re-audited between 3 and 6 months to ensure the sustained improvement.
