Selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx) with ammonia (NH3-SCR) is an efficient NOx reduction strategy, while the denitrification (deNOx) catalysts suffer from serious deactivation due to the coexistence of multiple poisoning substances, such as alkali metal (e.g., K), SO2, etc., in industrial flue gases. It is essential to understand the interaction among various poisons and their effects on the deNOx process. Herein, the ZSM-5 zeolite-confined MnSmOx mixed (MnSmOx@ZSM-5) catalyst exhibited better deNOx performance after the poisoning of K, SO2, and/or K&SO2 than the MnSmOx and MnSmOx/ZSM-5 catalysts, the deNOx activity of which at high temperature (H-T) increased significantly (>90% NOx conversion in the range of 220-480 °C). It has been demonstrated that K would occupy both redox and acidic sites, which severely reduced the reactivity of MnSmOx/ZSM-5 catalysts. The most important, K element is preferentially deposited at -OH on the surface of ZSM-5 carrier due to the electrostatic attraction (-O-K). As for the K&SO2 poisoning catalyst, SO2 preferred to be combined with the surface-deposited K (-O-K-SO2ads) according to XPS and density functional theory (DFT) results, the poisoned active sites by K would be released. The K migration behavior was induced by SO2 over K-poisoned MnSmOx@ZSM-5 catalysts, and the balance of surface redox and acidic site was regulated, like a synergistic promoter, which led to K-poisoning buffering and activity recovery. This work contributes to the understanding of the self-detoxification interaction between alkali metals (e.g., K) and SO2 on deNOx catalysts and provides a novel strategy for the adaptive use of one poisoning substance to counter another for practical NOx reduction.

Candida albicans: (C. albicans) is a prevalent opportunistic pathogen that can cause severe mucosal and systemic fungal infections, leading to high morbidity and mortality rates. Traditional chemical drug treatments for C. albicans infection have limitations, including the potential for the development of drug resistance. Essential oils, which are secondary metabolites extracted from plants, have gained significant attention due to their antibacterial activity and intestinal regulatory effects. It makes them an ideal focus for eco-friendly antifungal research. This review was aimed to comprehensively evaluate the research progress, mechanisms, and clinical application prospects of essential oils in treating C. albicans infections through their antibacterial and intestinal regulatory effects. We delve into how essential oils exert antibacterial effects against C. albicans infections through these effects and provide a comprehensive analysis of related experimental studies and clinical trials. Additionally, we offer insights into the future application prospects of essential oils in antifungal therapy, aiming to provide new ideas and methods for the development of safer and more effective antifungal drugs. Through a systematic literature review and data analysis, we hope to provide insights supporting the application of essential oils in antifungal therapy while also contributing to the research and development of natural medicines. In the face of increasingly severe fungal infections, essential oils might emerge as a potent method in our arsenal, aiding in the effective protection of human and animal health.

High concentrations of PM2.5 with enriched levels of metallic constituents could significantly affect the health and comfort of metro employees. To avoid overestimating the exposure risks, we investigated the bioaccessibility of toxic metals (TMs) bound in PM2.5 from the Nanchang metro using Gamble's solution method, and qualitatively analyzed the impact of valence state and various sources on the bioaccessibility of TMs bound to PM2.5. The results showed that the bioaccessibility of the studied TMs ranged from 2.1% to 88.1%, with As, Ba, Co and Pb being the most bioaccessible and V, Fe and Cr being the less bioaccessible. The bioaccessibility of TMs in our subway PM2.5 samples varied based on their valence and species, showing higher valence states associated with increased bioaccessibility. Vehicle traffic, secondary aerosols and wheel/rail sources were found to be significantly and positively associated with the bioaccessibility of several TMs, implying a severe potential risk from these three sources. Although both non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks associated with total TMs were found to be high, only As and Cr(VI) posed a considerable carcinogenic risk to metro workers based on the bioaccessible fractions and were therefore priority pollutants. In addition, potential carcinogenic risk was found to be more severe in platform than that in ticket counter. The results indicate that considerable efforts are required to control and manage PM2.5 and the associated TMs in the Nanchang subway, particularly from traffic, wheel/rail and secondary sources, to protect the health of metro staff and the public.

Decrease of human corneal endothelial cell (CEC) density leads to corneal edema, progressive corneal opacity, and reduced visual acuity. A reduction in CEC density may be related to elevated levels of inflammatory cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interferon (INF)-γ. PANoptosis, characterized by the activation of apoptosis, necroptosis, and pyroptosis, could be a factor in the loss of CECs driven by TNF-α and INF-γ. Cytokines also stimulate monocytes adhesion to endothelium. It has been shown in previous research that curcumin plays protective roles against numerous corneal inflammatory diseases. However, it is not determined whether curcumin acts as an anti-PANoptotic agent or if it mitigates monocyte adhesion to CECs. Therefore, this research aimed to explor the potential therapeutic effects of curcumin and its underlying mechanisms in the loss of CECs. CEC injury models were established, and curcumin was injected subconjunctivally. Clinical evaluation of the corneas was conducted using a scoring system and anterior segment photography. Corneal observation was performed with hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunostaining of zona occludens-1(ZO-1). Apoptotic cells within the corneal endothelium were observed using TUNEL staining. The detection of primary proteins expression was accomplished through western blot analysis. Interleukin (IL)-1ß and macrophage chemotactic protein 1 (MCP-1) levels were determined via ELISA, while the expression of cleaved caspase-3, gasdermin-D (GSDMD), phosphor-mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein (p-MLKL) and intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 were confirmed by immunofluorescence. Myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity was measured in aqueous humors. Curcumin treatment attenuated the loss of CECs and corneal edema caused by TNF-α and IFN-γ. Besides, it decreased the count of TUNEL-positive cells, and inhibited the upregulation of cleaved caspase-3, cleaved caspase-6, cleaved caspase-7, and cleaved poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase. Moreover, both the expression and phosphorylation of MLKL and receptor- interacting protein 3 were decreased in curcumin-treated rats. Furthermore, curcumin also lowered the expression of cleaved caspase-1, diminished the levels of IL1ß and MCP-1, and inhibited the activity of MPO. Besides, the expression of intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, as well as the number of CD11b-positive cells adhered to the CECs decreased for the administration of curcumin.

Psoriasis is a chronic immune mediated inflammatory skin disease with systemic manifestations. It has been reported that caloric restriction could improve severity of psoriasis patients. However, the mechanism of intermittent fasting effects on psoriasis has not been investigated. Caloric restriction is known to reduce the number of circulating inflammatory monocytes in a CCL2-dependent manner. However, it is still unknown whether caloric restriction can improve psoriasis by regulating monocytes through CCL2. In this study, we used imiquimod (IMQ)-induced psoriasis-like mouse model to explore the effects and the mechanisms of intermittent fasting on psoriasis-like dermatitis. We found that intermittent fasting could significantly improve IMQ-induced psoriasis-like dermatitis, and reduce the number of γδT17 cells and IL-17 production in draining lymph nodes and psoriatic lesion via inhibiting proliferation and increasing death of γδT17 cells. Furthermore, intermittent fasting could significantly decrease monocytes in blood, and this was associated with decreased monocytes, macrophages and DC in psoriasis-like skin inflammation. Reduced monocytes in circulation and increased monocytes in BM of fasting IMQ-induced psoriasis-like mice is through reducing the production of CCL2 from BM to inhibit monocyte egress to the periphery. Our above data shads light on the mechanisms of intermittent fasting on psoriasis.

Climate change poses mounting threats to fragile alpine ecosystem worldwide. Quantifying changes in carbon stocks in response to the shifting climate was important for developing climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. This study utilized a process-based land model (Community Land Model 5.0) to analyze spatiotemporal variations in vegetation carbon stock (VCS) and soil organic carbon stock (SOCS) across a typical permafrost area - Qinghai Province, China, from 2000 to 2018. Multiple potential factors influencing carbon stocks dynamics were analyzed, including climate, vegetation, soil hydrothermal status, and soil properties. The results indicated that provincial vegetation carbon storage was 0.22 PgC (0.32 kg/m2) and soil organic carbon pool was 9.12 PgC (13.03 kg/m2). VCS showed a mild increase while SOCS exhibited fluctuating uptrends during this period. Higher carbon stocks were observed in forest (21.74 kg/m2) and alpine meadow (18.08 kg/m2) compared to alpine steppes (9.63 kg/m2). Over 90 % of the carbon was stored in the 0-30 cm topsoil layer. The contribution rates of soil carbon in the 30-60 cm and 60-100 cm soil layers were significantly small, despite increasing stocks across all depths. Solar radiation, temperature, and NDVI emerged as primary influential factors for overall carbon stocks, exhibiting noticeable spatial variability. For SOCS at different depths, the normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) was the foremost predictor of landscape-level carbon distributions, which explained 52.8 % of SOCS variability in shallow layers (0-30 cm) but dropped to just 12.97 % at the depth of 30-60 cm. However, the dominance of NDVI diminished along the soil depth gradients, superseded by radiation and precipitation. Additionally, with an increase in soil depth, the influence of inherent soil properties also increased. This simulation provided crucial insights for landscape-scale carbon responses to climate change, and offered valuable reference for other climate change-sensitive areas in terms of ecosystem carbon management.

Due to the complex nature of the chemical compositions of ignitable liquids (IL) and the interferences from fire debris matrices, interpreting chromatographic data poses challenges to analysts. In this work, artificial intelligence (AI) was developed by transfer learning in a convolutional neural network (CNN), GoogLeNet. The image classification AI was fine-tuned to create intelligent classification systems to discriminate samples containing gasoline residues from burned substrates. All ground truth samples were analyzed by headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled with a gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer (GC/MS). The HS-SPME-GC/MS data were transformed into three types of image presentations, that is, heatmaps, extracted ion heatmaps, and total ion chromatograms. The abundance and mass-to-charge ratios of each scan were converted into image patterns that are characteristic of the chemical profiles of gasoline. The transfer learning data were labeled as "gasoline present" and "gasoline absent" classes. The assessment results demonstrated that all AI models achieved 100 ± 0% accuracy in identifying neat gasoline. When the models were assessed using the spiked samples, the AI model developed using the extracted ion heatmap obtained the highest accuracy rate (95.9 ± 0.4%), which was greater than those obtained by other machine learning models, ranging from 17.3 ± 0.7% to 78.7 ± 0.7%. The proposed work demonstrated that the heatmaps created from GC/MS data can represent chemical features from the samples. Additionally, the pretrained CNN models are readily available in the transfer learning workflow to develop AI for GC/MS data interpretation in fire debris analysis.

Understanding of infection dynamics is important for public health measures against monkeypox virus (MPXV) infection. Herein, samples from multiple body sites and environmental fomites of 77 acute MPXV infections (HIV co-infection: N = 42) were collected every two to three days and used for detection of MPXV DNA, surface protein specific antibodies and neutralizing titers. Skin lesions show 100% positivity rate of MPXV DNA, followed by rectum (88.16%), saliva (83.78%) and oropharynx (78.95%). Positivity rate of oropharynx decreases rapidly after 7 days post symptom onset (d.p.o), while the rectum and saliva maintain a positivity rate similar to skin lesions. Viral dynamics are similar among skin lesions, saliva and oropharynx, with a peak at about 6 d.p.o. In contrast, viral levels in the rectum peak at the beginning of symptom onset and decrease rapidly thereafter. 52.66% of environmental fomite swabs are positive for MPXV DNA, with highest positivity rate (69.89%) from air-conditioning air outlets. High seropositivity against A29L (100%) and H3L (94.74%) are detected, while a correlation between IgG endpoint titers and neutralizing titers is only found for A29L. Most indexes are similar between HIV and Non-HIV participants, while HIV and rectitis are associated with higher viral loads in rectum.

BACKGROUND: A three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the kidney, parapelvic cyst and the collecting system was conducted using the 3D Slicer software. The reconstructed image was used to form a virtual endoscope to assist flexible ureteroscopic incision and drainage was performed with a holmium laser for treating parapelvic cysts. The effectiveness of this assistive technique was assessed. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study. The clinical information of 59 patients undergoing flexible ureteroscopic incision and drainage for parapelvic cysts in two medical centers was collected. 3D Slicer software reconstruction and virtual endoscopic imaging were performed for 28 cases. Before the operation, the best point for incision on the collecting system's mucosa was assessed by virtual endoscope imaging. Propensity score matching was adopted for the reconstructive and non-reconstructive groups. RESULTS: After matching, the reconstructive group and non-reconstructive group both had 21 cases each. The operation time in the reconstructive and non-reconstructive groups was 38.81±5.01 and 51.00±18 minutes, respectively. Statistically significant differences existed between the two groups (t=7.024, P<0.001). No statistical significance was found in postoperative fever, immediate postoperative C reactive protein (CRP), length of postoperative hospital stay and cyst diameter three months after the operation. CONCLUSIONS: The operator was provided with a more direct and real vision when 3D Slicer software reconstruction was adopted via virtual endoscopic imaging to assist flexible ureteroscopic parapelvic cyst incision. This helped reduce the operation time. Further follow-ups and observations are required to assess the long-term efficacy of flexible ureteroscopic parapelvic cyst incision.

PURPOSE: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) with metastatic lymph nodes (LNs) is closely associated with disease recurrence. This study accessed the value of superb microvascular imaging (SMI) in the diagnosis and prediction of metastatic cervical LNs in patients with PTC. METHODS: A total of 183 cervical LNs (103 metastatic and 80 reactive) from 116 patients with PTC were analysed. Metastatic cervical LNs were confirmed by pathology or/and cytology; reactive cervical LNs were confirmed by pathology or clinical features. The characteristic of conventional ultrasound (US) was extracted using univariate and multivariate analyses. The diagnostic performance of US and SMI were compared using the area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) with corresponding sensitivity and specificity. A nomogram was developed to predict metastatic LNs in patients with PTC, based on multivariate analyses. RESULTS: L/S < 2, ill-defined border, absence of hilum, isoechoic or hyperechoic, heterogeneous internal echo, peripheral or mixed vascular pattern on color Doppler flow imaging (CDFI) and SMI, and a larger SMI vascular index appeared more frequently in metastatic LNs in the training datasets than in reactive LNs (P < 0.05). The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of SMI vs US are 94.4% and 87.3%, 79.3% and 69.3%, and 87.6% and 79.1%, respectively; SMI combined with US exhibited a higher AUC [0.926 (0.877-0.975)] than US only [0.829 (0.759-0.900)]. L/S < 2, peripheral or mixed vascular type on CDFI, and peripheral or mixed vascular types on SMI were independent predictors of metastatic LNs with PTC. The nomogram based on these three parameters exhibited excellent discrimination, with an AUC of 0.926. CONCLUSION: SMI was superior to US in diagnosing metastatic LNs in PTC. US combined with SMI significantly improved the diagnostic accuracy of metastatic cervical LNs with PTC. SMI is efficacious for differentiating and predicting metastatic cervical LNs.

Purpose: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) is increasing worldwide, and early prediction of MetS risk is highly beneficial for health outcomes. This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram to predict MetS risk in Qinghai Province, China, and it provides a methodological reference for MetS prevention and control in Qinghai Province, China. Patients and Methods: A total of 3073 participants living between 1900 and 3710 meters above sea level in Qinghai Province participated in this study between March 2014 and March 2016. We omitted 12 subjects who were missing diagnostic component data for MetS, ultimately resulting in 3061 research subjects, 70% of the subjects were assigned randomly to the training set, and the remaining subjects were assigned to the validation set. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression analysis method was used for variable selection via running cyclic coordinate descent with 10-fold cross-validation. Multivariable logistic regression was then performed to develop a predictive model and nomogram. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves was used for model evaluation, and calibration plot and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used for model validation. Results: Of 24 variables studied, 6 risk predictors were identified by LASSO regression analysis: hyperlipidaemia, hyperglycemia, abdominal obesity, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and body mass index (BMI). A prediction model including these 6 risk factors was constructed and displayed good predictability with an area under the ROC curve of 0.914 for the training set and 0.930 for the validation set. DCA revealed that if the threshold probability of MetS is less than 82%, the application of this nomogram is more beneficial than both the treat-all or treat-none strategies. Conclusion: The nomogram developed in our study demonstrated strong discriminative power and clinical applicability, making it a valuable reference for meets prevention and control in the plateau areas of Qinghai Province.

The increasing prevalence of overcrowding in Emergency Departments (EDs) threatens the effective delivery of urgent healthcare. Mitigation strategies include the deployment of monitoring systems capable of tracking and managing patient disposition to facilitate appropriate and timely care, which subsequently reduces patient revisits, optimizes resource allocation, and enhances patient outcomes. This study used âˆ¼ 250,000 emergency department visit records from Taipei Medical University-Shuang Ho Hospital to develop a natural language processing model using BlueBERT, a biomedical domain-specific pre-trained language model, to predict patient disposition status and unplanned readmissions. Data preprocessing and the integration of both structured and unstructured data were central to our approach. Compared to other models, BlueBERT outperformed due to its pre-training on a diverse range of medical literature, enabling it to better comprehend the specialized terminology, relationships, and context present in ED data. We found that translating Chinese-English clinical narratives into English and textualizing numerical data into categorical representations significantly improved the prediction of patient disposition (AUROC = 0.9014) and 72-hour unscheduled return visits (AUROC = 0.6475). The study concludes that the BlueBERT-based model demonstrated superior prediction capabilities, surpassing the performance of prior patient disposition predictive models, thus offering promising applications in the realm of ED clinical practice.

Empirical studies have indicated that excessive tea consumption may potentially decrease folate levels within the human body. The main active component in green tea, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), significantly reduces the concentration of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) in both solution and serum. However, our findings also demonstrate that the pro-degradation effect of EGCG on 5-MTHF can be reversed by L-ascorbic acid (AA). Subsequent investigations suggest that EGCG could potentially expedite the degradation of 5-MTHF by generating hydrogen peroxide. In summary, excessive tea intake may lead to reduced folate levels in the bloodstream, yet timely supplementation of AA could potentially safeguard folate from degradation.

Background: Weaning patients from mechanical ventilation is a critical clinical challenge post cardiac surgery. The effective liberation of patients from the ventilator significantly improves their recovery and survival rates. This study aimed to develop and validate a clinical prediction model to evaluate the likelihood of successful extubation in post-cardiac surgery patients. Method: A predictive nomogram was constructed for extubation success in individual patients, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and calibration curves were generated to assess its predictive capability. The superior performance of the model was confirmed using Delong's test in the ROC analysis. A decision curve analysis (DCA) was conducted to evaluate the clinical utility of the nomogram. Results: Among 270 adults included in our study, 107 (28.84%) experienced delayed extubation. A predictive nomogram system was derived based on five identified risk factors, including the proportion of male patients, EuroSCORE II, operation time, pump time, bleeding during operation, and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) level. Based on the predictive system, five independent predictors were used to construct a full nomogram. The area under the curve values of the nomogram were 0.880 and 0.753 for the training and validation cohorts, respectively. The DCA and clinical impact curves showed good clinical utility of this model. Conclusion: Delayed extubation and weaning failure, common and potentially hazardous complications following cardiac surgery, vary in timing based on factors such as sex, EuroSCORE II, pump duration, bleeding, and postoperative BNP reduction. The nomogram developed and validated in this study can accurately predict when extubation should occur in these patients. This tool is vital for assessing risks on an individual basis and making well-informed clinical decisions.

Background: Sepsis is a life-threatening condition characterized by an aberrant host response to infection, resulting in multi-organ dysfunction. The application of currently available prognostic indicators for sepsis in primary hospitals is challenging. In this retrospective study, we established a novel index, the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (NLMR), based on routine blood examination upon admission, and assessed its prognostic value for early mortality risk in adult patients with septic shock. Methods: This study included clinical data from adult patients with septic shock who were admitted to the hospital between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2022. Training and validation sets were constructed, and patients were categorized into "survival" and "death" groups based on their survival status within the 28-day hospitalization period. Baseline data, including demographic characteristics and comorbidities, and laboratory results, such as complete blood count parameters, were collected for analysis. The Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) scores were documented.The NLMR was determined through the utilization of multivariate binary logistic regression analysis, leading to the development of a risk model aimed at predicting early mortality in adult patients suffering from septic shock. Results: Overall, 112 adult patients with septic shock were enrolled in this study, with 84 and 28 patients in the training and validation sets, respectively. Multivariate binary logistic analysis revealed that the neutrophil, lymphocyte, and monocyte counts independently contributed to the mortality risk (odds ratios = 1.22, 0.08, and 0.16, respectively). The NLMR demonstrated an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC-AUC) of 0.83 for internal validation in the training set and 0.97 for external validation in the validation set. Both overall model quality values were significantly high at 0.74 and 0.91, respectively (P < 0.05). NLMR exhibited a higher ROC-AUC value of 0.88 than quick SOFA (ROC-AUC = 0.71), SOFA (ROC-AUC = 0.83), and APACHE II (ROC-AUC = 0.78). Conclusion: NLMR may be a potential marker for predicting the risk of early death in adult patients with septic shock, warranting further exploration and verification.

Background: This study aims to investigate the impact and safety of combining maternal voice stimulation with gravity feeding on low-birth-weight preterm infants. The research focuses on key outcomes such as gastric tube indwelling time, feeding transition time, adequate gastrointestinal nutrition time, recovery of birth weight time, length of hospital stay, and oral motor function in preterm infants. Methods: A total of 150 low birth weight preterm infants meeting inclusion criteria were recruited from the neonatal care unit and randomly assigned to three groups: traditional nasal feeding, gravity feeding with a homemade bracket, and a combined group receiving both gravity feeding and maternal voice stimulation. The groups were compared using parameters such as feeding intolerance incidence, gastric tube indwelling time, feeding transition time, adequate gastrointestinal nutrition time, recovery of birth weight time, hospital stay, and oral motor function. Results: The combined group exhibited a significantly lower incidence of feeding intolerance (26% lower than traditional nasal feeding, 18% lower than gravity feeding, P < .001). The traditional nasal feeding group had the highest incidence at 62%. The combined group showed a shorter indwelling time (19.01 ± 11.67 days), compared to the gravity feeding group (23.50 ± 13.04 days) and the traditional nasogastric feeding group (27.43 ± 11.91 days, P = .001). The combined group had a shorter hospital stay (27.09 ± 14.16 days) compared to the gravity feeding group (32.74 ± 13.32 days) and the traditional nasogastric feeding group (33.84 ± 12.42 days, P = .013). The combined group demonstrated a slightly longer recovery time (11.56 ± 4.08 days) than the gravity feeding group (11.14 ± 4.76 days) but significantly shorter than the traditional nasogastric feeding group (14.44 ± 5.42 days, P = .003). The combined group exhibited the highest improvement in oral motor function at 4 weeks after feeding (17.81 ± 0.39 points), surpassing both the gravity feeding group (16.10 ± 0.23 points) and the traditional nasogastric feeding group (15.15 ± 0.07 points, P < .001). The combined group demonstrated a significantly lower feeding transition time than the traditional nasal feeding group (P < .05) and comparable time to the gravity feeding group (P > .05). All the comparison results were statistically significant. Conclusion: Maternal voice stimulation combined with gravity feeding shows promising positive effects and high safety for low-birth-weight preterm infants. The combined approach outperformed both gravity feeding alone and traditional nasogastric feeding across various critical parameters. These findings support the potential clinical applicability and merit further consideration for wider implementation as a feeding method in neonatal care settings. Clinical Significance: The observed reductions in feeding intolerance, shortened gastric tube indwelling time, and enhanced oral motor function in low-birth-weight preterm infants receiving combined maternal voice stimulation and gravity feeding highlight a promising clinical approach. These improvements signify the potential for earlier oral feeding initiation, shorter hospital stays, and better overall outcomes in the care of these vulnerable infants. Limitations: This study is limited by its single-center design, potential selection bias, and the absence of blinding. Uncontrolled confounding factors may influence results, and long-term outcomes were not assessed. Implications for Practice: Healthcare professionals should cautiously consider the observed benefits of combining maternal voice stimulation with gravity feeding, recognizing the study's limitations. Further research is warranted to validate these findings and explore long-term implications for the care of low-birth-weight preterm infants.

In this study, the photoelectric properties of a complete series of GaS1-xSex (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) layered crystals are investigated. The photoconductivity spectra indicate a decreasing bandgap of GaS1-xSex as the Se composition x increases. Time-resolved photocurrent measurements reveal a significant improvement in the response of GaS1-xSex to light with increasing x. Frequency-dependent photocurrent measurements demonstrate that both pure GaS crystals and GaS1-xSex ternary alloy crystals exhibit a rapid decrease in photocurrents with increasing illumination frequency. Crystals with lower x exhibit a faster decrease in photocurrent. However, pure GaSe crystal maintains its photocurrent significantly even at high frequencies. Measurements for laser-power-dependent photoresponsivity and bias-voltage-dependent photoresponsivity also indicate an increase in the photoresponsivity of GaS1-xSex as x increases. Overall, the photoresponsive performance of GaS1-xSex is enhanced with increasing x, and pure GaSe exhibits the best performance. This result contradicts the findings of previous reports. Additionally, the inverse trends between bandgap and photoresponsivity with increasing x suggest that GaS1-xSex-based photodetectors could potentially offer a high response and wavelength-selectivity for UV and visible light detection. Thus, this work provides novel insights into the photoelectric characteristics of GaS1-xSex layered crystals and highlights their potential for optoelectronic applications.

Cancer cachexia-associated muscle wasting as a multifactorial wasting syndrome, is an important factor affecting the long-term survival rate of tumor patients. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has emerged as a promising tool to cure and prevent many diseases. However, the effect of PBMT on skeletal muscle atrophy during cancer progression has not been fully demonstrated yet. Here, we found PBMT alleviated the atrophy of myotube diameter induced by cancer cells in vitro, and prevented cancer-associated muscle atrophy in mice bearing tumor. Mechanistically, the alleviation of muscle wasting by PBMT was found to be involved in inhibiting E3 ubiquitin ligases MAFbx and MuRF-1. In addition, transcriptomic analysis using RNA-seq and GSEA revealed that PI3K/AKT pathway might be involved in PBMT-prevented muscle cachexia. Next, we showed the protective effect of PBMT against muscle cachexia was totally blocked by AKT inhibitor in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, PBMT-activated AKT promoted FoxO3a phosphorylation and thus inhibiting the nucleus entry of FoxO3a. Lastly, in cisplatin-treated muscle cachexia model, PBMT had also been shown to ameliorate muscle atrophy through enhancing PI3K/AKT pathway to suppress MAFbx and MuRF-1 expression. These novel findings revealed that PBMT could be a promising therapeutic approach in treating muscle cachexia induced by cancer.
