ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the duration of fixation of adhesive films in the treatment of traumatic lesions of the oral mucosa. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The patients were divided into 2 groups. In the first group, the affected area was covered with an adhesive film with solcoseryl, in the second group with a film with vitamin E. The film was glued to the affected area according to the instructions, the time of gluing was recorded, patients were warned about the need to notify researchers via messengers or SMS messages about the time of peeling or resorption of the film. The evaluation was carried out by the method of variation statistics (Student's t-test for independent samples). RESULTS: The retention time of the film in the oral cavity was expressed in minutes, the average value in group 1 was 48.4±9.19, in group 2 - 127.70±49.07. Thus, the fixation of the film with vitamin E was longer than the films with solcoseryl (p=0.000180). CONCLUSION: Both films provided sufficient protective effect during the retention period. However, in clinical situations where a longer barrier protective effect to the damaged oral mucosa surface is required, it is advisable to use a vitamin E healing patch.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to conduct literature review about oral manifestations of scleroderma. Systemic sclerosis is a multisystem autoimmune disorder characterized by widespread fibrosis, vascular alterations and inflammation. Systemic sclerosis mainly affects people in age from 30 to 50 years, but the onset of disease can occur in any age. The disturbance of microcirculation with the activation and proliferation of endothelium and smooth muscle cells plays an important role in pathogenesis of sclerodrma. These changes lead to sclerosis and fibrosis of various part in human body. Orofacial manifestations of scleroderma include: reduced mouth opening, widening of periodontal ligament, teleangiectasia, bone lesions. Systemic scleroderma is often accompanied by Sjogren's syndrome. Oral manifestations of Sjogren's syndrome are recurrent parotitis, angular cheilitis, xerostomia and multiple caries. Sjogren's syndrome leads to negative impact on patients health and mental status. Orofacial manifestations of systemic sclerosis are still poorly known, that is why more researches should be made to improve dental treatment of patients with systemic sclerosis.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To investigate the position of the mental foramen based on its relation with the roots of the mandibular teeth and quantify the prevalence of anterior loop and satellite foramina in the mandible in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. METHODS: The sample consisted of 400 CBCT scans of males (n=190) and females (n=210) from Moscow, Russia. Using the system proposed by Tebo and Telford (1950), the position of the mental foramen was classified into: I) mesial to the mandibular first premolar; II) at the apex of the mandibular first premolar; III) between the roots of the mandibular first and second premolars; IV) at the apex of the mandibular second premolar; V) between the roots of the mandibular second premolar and first molar; and VI) at the apex of the roots of the mandibular first molar. Additionally, the images were assessed to investigate the prevalence of the anterior loop of the mandibular canal and the presence of satellite foramina. RESULTS: Mental foramen position class III was the most prevalent (61%) followed by class IV (27%), II (8%), I, V and VI (together <4%). Statistically significant differences were not detected between males and females (P<0.05). In Russian males and females, the anterior loop of the mandibular canal was found in 15.78% and 3%, respectively; while satellite foramina were found in 31.58% and 19.62%, respectively. CONCLUSION: The spatial position of the mental foramen and the morphological alterations of the mandibular canal and adjacent foramina must be known prior to surgical interventions in the mandible.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Based on the datas available in the modern literature, to conduct a study on the effect of dental diseases on the course of pregnancy and outcome; mainly, the impact of periodontal disease on the low birth weight of the newborn and premature birth. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This article is based on the study of materials from foreign and domestic studies found in the databases Pubmed and Elibrary. Literature data were used for the last 15 years. RESULTS: The majority of pregnant women who are not receiving due dental examination and suffering with those or other diseases of the oral cavity have an unfavorable outcome of pregnancy, including premature births and low weight of the premature newborn. The role of the chronic effect of oral microorganisms Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) and Fusobacterium nudeatum, as well as local increase in prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), in the implementation of the inflammatory reaction leading to a decrease in the weight of the fetus by 15-18%. CONCLUSION: Due to the conducted research it was established that periodontal diseases and other infectious diseases of the oral cavity negatively affect the course of pregnancy and its outcome. The main problems were the lack of women's health education in terms of preparing for pregnancy and sanitation of foci of infection in the oral cavity both before pregnancy and at the time, as well as poor access to the dentist and not receiving proper prevention and, if necessary, treatment of oral diseases.

ABSTRACT

THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: determination of the optimal parameters of the action of various types of current, which have the most pronounced irritating effect on the receptor apparatus of the tooth pulp. The study involved 102 volunteers aged 19 to 72 years (53 females and 49 males). The study was conducted on 217 teeth: 86 molars, 25 premolars, 19 canines and 98 incisors. 137 (63%) teeth were intact, in 48 (22%) teeth caries were found, in 32 (15%) teeth there was pulpitis or teeth were depulpated. Electroexcitability of the teeth was determined with the help of various types of electric current: an impulse variable, an impulse constant and a sinusoidal variable. The optimal current for carrying out an electroodontodiagnosis proved to be sinusoidal variable current with a frequency of 50 Hz. This current does not cause polarization of tissues, it is easy to dose, it causes a clear, but not painful sensation, gives the smallest spread of the indicators during repeated studies. The obtained results allowed formulating requirements for electroodontodiagnosis devices.

ABSTRACT

AIM: Comparison of different interdental aids efficiency in patients with healthy periodontium. METHODS: A non-randomized controlled split-mouth study was carried out in 25 young adults with healthy periodontium. The mouth was divided into 4 quadrants. All the participants used manual toothbrush. Additional hygienic aids included SPS prime (Curaprox) interdental in quadrant 1 brushes, dental floss (Curaprox) in quadrant 2, unituft toothbrush (Curaprox) in quadrant 3, no interdental aids were used in quadrant 4. The oral hygiene efficiency was assessed after 4 weeks with Silness-Loe Plaque Index (PI) and Rustogi et al. Modified Navy Plaque Index (RMNPI). RESULTS: After 4 weeks the mean value of PI decreased from 1.2±0.27 to 0.7±0.28, the mean value of RMNPI decreased from 0.7±0.11 to 0.5±0.16. At the primary examination, there was no statistically significant difference of PI and RMNPI values between the quadrants. After 4 weeks, ANOVA test demonstrated significant difference between the quadrants. The minimal PI and RMNPI values were determined in quadrant 1 (0.4±0.16 and 0.3±0.11, respectively). The maximal PI and RMNPI values were determined in quadrant 4 (1.0±0.21 and 0.6±0.14, respectively). There was no significant difference between quadrants 2 and 3. CONCLUSION: In limitations of this study, the maximal oral hygiene efficiency was achieved with use of manual toothbrush combined with interdental brush.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of our study was to assess the efficiency of toothpaste 'Intensive strengthening of supersensitive teeth with nano-GAP' INNOVA and the suspension 'Liquid Enamel' INNOVA on the sensitivity of teeth with gingival recession. We examined 40 people aged 20-25 years. Each group consisted of 20 people: 10 women, 10 men. The first group (observations) used the paste and the suspension for 14 days, and the second group (comparisons) cleaned teeth only with a brush without a paste. Schiff aerial test was performed to assess the rate of hypersensitivity. As a result of the study, it was found that the combination of paste and liquid suspension with nano-hydroxyapatite for 14 days effectively reduced the hypersensitivity of the teeth with gingival recession that was shown by a statistically significant decrease in the Schiff index in the observation group. Thus, this combination is the method of choice in the treatment of hyperesthesia and can be used as an alternative substitute therapy.

ABSTRACT

Pathological lesions associated with multiple causes (infections, physical, chemical and thermal agents) of oral mucosa are equally widespread in all spheres of dental practice. The actual importance of pharmaceutical therapy of lesions of oral mucosa is associated with the lack of reliable traditional topical drugs - ointments, gels, pastes, lacquers, discs - caused by their little efficiency associated with poor maintaining of permanent concentration, short contact period, discomfort and long-term treatment. All the mentioned facts caused the development of various pharmaceutical forms with prolonged activity with improved adhesion to oral mucosa, prolonged saving of useful properties and protecting the lesion from oral infection and external influences and reducing the intensity of painful sensations during mastication and mimics. These drugs form the group of barrier drugs and drugs with prolonged release of medicine of the wide specter. During all the time of existence this group of drugs has undergone and is still undergoing several changes targeted on improvement of adhesion and maintaining of constant concentration of medicine in the lesion and extension of indications for use. The development of new pharmaceutical forms is still continuing.

ABSTRACT

Two hundreds and ninety eight patients were included in the study. Endo-perio lesions were revealed in 53 (17.78%) patients. Anonymous questionnaires were filled by 183 dentists of different specialties. Most of the dentists try to treat such lesions themselves while for successful treatment interdisciplinary approach is required. Results of anonymous questioning show that most of the dentists haven't enough information not only about endo-perio lesions but also about periodontal therapy and underestimate the value of periodontal therapy for this group of patients.

ABSTRACT

A combination ofperiodontitis and pulp or periapical tissues inflammation in one tooth is known as endo-periodontal lesions. Such kind of lesion is serious problem of modern dentistry. It was found that pathogenic microflora of periodontal pocket and root canal of tooth with eno-perio lesion is almost the equal and consist of anaerobic microorganisms. Pathogenic effects have not only microorganisms but also their life products. Apical foramen, lateral and additional canals are physiological ways for pathogens migration. Inflammatory processes in these structures complicate each other. Lack of information among dentists about treatment possibilities of endo-perio lesions is a main reasons of extraction such kind of teeth. Simultaneous elimination of pathogens both from periodontal pocket and root canal is a key factor for effective treatment. Periodontal status is main factor for prognosis of tooth with endo-perio lesion, because of it treatment of endo-perio lesions should consist of two stages: infection elimination and regeneration of tooth-supported structures.
