ABSTRACT

This study explored, for the first time, the antioxidant (total antioxidant content, reducing power, ferric ion reducing antioxidant power, hydroxyl radical scavenging, ferrous ion-chelating assays), anti-tyrosinase, anti-inflammatory properties, and hepatoprotective effect in HepG2 cell lines of Ochna integerrima (Loureiro) Merrill flowers and seeds. All extracts except n-hexane exhibited significant antioxidant activity, with high levels of tannin and proanthocyanidins. Luteolin (1), 6-γ,γ-dimethylallylkaempferol7-O-ß-d-glucopyranoside (2), 6-γ,γ-dimethylallylquercetin7-O-ß-d-glucopyranoside (3), and 6-γ,γ-dimethylallyldihydrokaempferol 7-O-ß-d-glucopyranoside (4) were isolated using semi-preparative HPLC. Compounds 1-3 demonstrated good anti-tyrosinase activity. The most active hepatoprotective extracts were found to be aqueous extracts. The flower extracts exhibited greater anti-inflammatory properties by the decrease of NO in RAW 264.7 cells and bovine serum albumin protein. Among them, the n-hexane and EtOAc extracts from flowers displayed promising anti-inflammatory activity. This was predicted by in silico analysis of 1-4. In summary, O. integerrima appears to be a promising natural source for antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, and anti-inflammatory applications.

ABSTRACT

Type 1 diabetes recipients of intrahepatic islet transplantation exhibit glucose-dependent suppression of insulin and activation of glucagon secretion in response to insulin-induced hypoglycemia associated with clinical protection from hypoglycemia. Whether sympathetic activation of adrenergic receptors on transplanted islets is required for these responses in defense against hypoglycemia is not known. To evaluate the adrenergic contribution to post-transplant glucose counterregulation, we performed a randomized, double-blind crossover study of responses during a hyperinsulinemic euglycemic-hypoglycemic clamp under phentolamine (α-adrenergic blockage), propranolol (ß-adrenergic blockage), or placebo infusion. Participants (5 female/4 male) were median (range) age 53 (34-63) years, diabetes duration 29 (18-56) years, post-transplant 7.0 (1.9-8.4) years, HbA1c 5.8 (4.5-6.8)%, insulin in-/dependent 5/4, all on tacrolimus-based immunosuppression. During the clamp, blood pressure was lower with phentolamine and heart rate lower with propranolol vs. placebo (P <0.05). There was no difference in suppression of endogenous insulin secretion (derived from C-peptide measurements) during the euglycemic or hypoglycemic phases, and while levels of glucagon were similar with phentolamine or propranolol vs. placebo, the increase in glucagon from eu- to hypoglycemia was greater with propranolol vs. placebo (P < 0.05). Pancreatic polypeptide was greater with phentolamine vs. placebo during the euglycemic phase (P < 0.05), and free fatty acids were lower and the glucose infusion rate higher with propranolol vs. placebo during the hypoglycemic phase (P < 0.05). These results indicate that neither physiologic α- nor ß-adrenergic blockade attenuates transplanted islet responses to hypoglycemia, suggesting sympathetic re-innervation of the islet graft is not necessary for post-transplant glucose counterregulation.

BACKGROUND: Due to cognitive impairments, people with dementia (PWD) often have difficulties in eating and drinking. This study aimed to assess the nutritional status, dietary quality and eating disturbance issues among PWD in Vietnam. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study at the Vietnamese National Geriatric Hospital from April to December 2022. We used Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) to classify the severity levels of dementia. Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), 24-hour recall, eating disturbance questionnaires, and anthropometric indicators were used to evaluate the nutritional status, dietary quality, and eating disorders of study subjects. RESULTS: Overall, among 63 study participants, 74.6 per cent of PWD were at risk of or having malnutrition. By dementia classification according to MMSE scale, people with moderate and severe dementia accounted for 53.3 per cent of those who met the recommended energy levels, compared to 42.4 per cent of people with mild dementia and normal people. In the above two groups, around three per cent of participants reached the recommended amount of fibre. Calcium (50-70%), vitamin A (80-90%), and D (90%) were found to be the most severe deficiency forms of minerals and vitamins in both male and female participants. The majority of participants (90.5%) had at least one form of eating disorders with the most frequent issue being appetite changes (76.2%) and swallowing issues (50.8%). CONCLUSIONS: PWD in our sample frequently experienced malnutrition, a lack of essential nutrients, difficulties swallowing, changes in eating habits and appetite. It is neccesary to early screen and assess nutritional status and swallowing disturbance in PWD, and instruct their caregivers to prepare nutritious meals for them.

ABSTRACT

The emergence of oxacillin-susceptible methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (OS-MRSA) has imposed further challenges to the clinical management of MRSA infections. When exposed to ß-lactam antibiotics, these strains can easily acquire reduced ß-lactam susceptibility through chromosomal mutations, including those in RNA polymerase (RNAP) genes such as rpoBC, which may then lead to treatment failure. Despite the increasing prevalence of such strains and the apparent challenges they pose for diagnosis and treatment, there is limited information available on the actual mechanisms underlying such chromosomal mutation-related transitions to reduced ß-lactam susceptibility, as it does not directly associate with the expression of mecA. This study investigated the cellular physiology and metabolism of six missense mutants with reduced oxacillin susceptibility, each carrying respective mutations on RpoBH929P, RpoBQ645H, RpoCG950R, RpoCG498D, RpiAA64E, and FruBA211E, using capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry-based metabolomics analysis. Our results showed that rpoBC mutations caused RNAP transcription dysfunction, leading to an intracellular accumulation of ribonucleotides. These mutations also led to the accumulation of UDP-Glc/Gal and UDP-GlcNAc, which are precursors of UTP-associated peptidoglycan and wall teichoic acid. Excessive amounts of building blocks then contributed to the cell wall thickening of mutant strains, as observed in transmission electron microscopy, and ultimately resulted in decreased susceptibility to ß-lactam in OS-MRSA. IMPORTANCE: The emergence of oxacillin-susceptible methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (OS-MRSA) strains has created new challenges for treating MRSA infections. These strains can become resistant to ß-lactam antibiotics through chromosomal mutations, including those in the RNA polymerase (RNAP) genes such as rpoBC, leading to treatment failure. This study investigated the mechanisms underlying reduced ß-lactam susceptibility in four rpoBC mutants of OS-MRSA. The results showed that rpoBC mutations caused RNAP transcription dysfunction, leading to an intracellular accumulation of ribonucleotides and precursors of peptidoglycan as well as wall teichoic acid. This, in turn, caused thickening of the cell wall and ultimately resulted in decreased susceptibility to ß-lactam in OS-MRSA. These findings provide insights into the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in OS-MRSA and highlight the importance of continued research in developing effective treatments to combat antibiotic resistance.

ABSTRACT

In response to the escalating global threat of antimicrobial resistance, our laboratory has established a phagemid packaging system for the generation of CRISPR-Cas13a-antimicrobial capsids targeting methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). However, a significant challenge arose during the packaging process: the unintentional production of wild-type phages alongside the antimicrobial capsids. To address this issue, the phagemid packaging system was optimized by strategically incorporated silent mutations. This approach effectively minimized contamination risks without compromising packaging efficiency. The study identified the indispensable role of phage packaging genes, particularly terL-terS, in efficient phagemid packaging. Additionally, the elimination of homologous sequences between the phagemid and wild-type phage genome was crucial in preventing wild-type phage contamination. The optimized phagemid-LSAB(mosaic) demonstrated sequence-specific killing, efficiently eliminating MRSA strains carrying target antibiotic-resistant genes. While acknowledging the need for further exploration across bacterial species and in vivo validation, this refined phagemid packaging system offers a valuable advancement in the development of CRISPR-Cas13a-based antimicrobials, shedding light on potential solutions in the ongoing battle against bacterial infections.

ABSTRACT

The immune response to inactivated influenza vaccines (IIV) is influenced by multiple factors, including hemagglutinin content and egg-based manufacturing. Only two US-licensed vaccines are manufactured without egg passage: cell culture-based inactivated vaccine (ccIIV) and recombinant vaccine (RIV). We conducted a randomized open-label trial in central Wisconsin during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons to compare immunogenicity of sequential vaccination. Participants 18-64 years old were randomized 1:1:1 to receive RIV, ccIIV or IIV in strata defined by number of influenza vaccine doses in the prior 3 years. They were revaccinated with the same product in year two. Paired serum samples were tested by hemagglutination inhibition against egg-adapted and cell-grown vaccine viruses. Serologic endpoints included geometric mean titer (GMT), mean fold rise, and percent seroconversion. There were 373 participants randomized and vaccinated in 2018-19; 332 were revaccinated in 2019-20. In 2018-19, RIV and ccIIV were not more immunogenic than IIV against A/H1N1. The post-vaccination GMT against the cell-grown 3C.2a A/H3N2 vaccine virus was higher for RIV vs IIV (p = .001) and RIV vs ccIIV (p = .001). The antibody response to influenza B viruses was similar across study arms. In 2019-20, GMT against the cell-grown 3C.3a A/H3N2 vaccine virus was higher for RIV vs IIV (p = .03) and for RIV vs ccIIV (p = .001). RIV revaccination generated significantly greater backboosting to the antigenically distinct 3C.2a A/H3N2 virus (2018-19 vaccine strain) compared to ccIIV or IIV. This study adds to the evidence that RIV elicits a superior immunologic response against A/H3N2 viruses compared to other licensed influenza vaccine products.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of treatment non-adherence and its associated factors among methadone maintenance patients in Vietnam. METHODS: This secondary data analysis was conducted using the data from a previous study. Six hundred patients were interviewed face-to-face to collect data on their demographic characteristics and social support. Information about the treatment characteristics and patients' non-adherence was gathered from medical records and books monitoring their treatment process. Treatment non-adherence was defined as missing at least one methadone dose in the last three months. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of non-adherence was 45.7%. The average social support score of patients who completely adhered to treatment was significantly higher than that of those who did not (p < 0.001). In the multivariate logistic regression model, for each one-unit increase in social support (one score), treatment time (a year), and patient's monthly income (one million Vietnam dongs), the odds of non-adherence decreased by 28% (aOR = 0.72, 95%CI 0.59-0.88, p = 0.002), 15% (aOR = 0.85, 95%CI 0.80-0.91, p < 0.001) and 9% (aOR = 0.91, 95%CI 0.85-0.97, p = 0.004), respectively. Patients living in Son La (a mountainous province) were 1.72 times (95%CI 1.09-2.71) more likely to be non-adherent as compared to those in other areas (p = 0.020). As per univariate analyses, other associated factors could be age, education level, family monthly income, occupation, and opioid relapse (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: A high non-adherence rate was found among Vietnamese methadone maintenance patients. Interventions involving social support, occupation, income, and education are needed to improve their treatment adherence.

ABSTRACT

This research aimed to explore factors associated with the fear of falling (FOF) among community-dwelling older adults in Vietnam. A cross-sectional study was conducted in five communes in Soc Son, Hanoi, Vietnam, from March to June 2017. We recruited a total of 487 participants, which provided sufficient data for analysis. The outcome variable was fear of falling. Several covariates, including demographics, medical history, general health status, geriatric syndromes, eye diseases, assessment of fall risk environment, timed up-and-go test, and number of standing up in 30 s, were collected. A multivariable logistic regression model was performed to determine predictors associated with FOF. The results showed that 54.6% of the participants had FOF. Furthermore, the logistic multivariable regression model revealed several factors associated with FOF among participants in the research sites, including polypharmacy status (OR: 1.79; 95%CI 1.07-2.99), higher scores in quality of life according to the EQ-5D-5L index (OR:6.27; 95%CI: 2.77-14.17), and having fallen during the past 12 months (OR:4.4; 95%CI: 2.39-8.11). These findings contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the intricate relationship between FOF and several associated factors, notably polypharmacy status, quality of life, and having a fall during the past 12 months.

ABSTRACT

Two previously unreported xanthones, xanthoschomes A and B (1 and 2), along with six known xanthones, α-mangostin (3), ß-mangostin (4), γ-mangostin (5), garcinone C (6), 2-(γ,γ-dimethylallyl)-1,7-dihydroxy-3-methoxyxanthone (7), and dulxanthone D (8), have been isolated from the fruits of Vietnamese Garcinia schomburgkiana. The structures of all isolated compounds were fully characterised using spectroscopic data and comparison with the previous literature. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their in vitro α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Compounds 1-8 demonstrated effective α-glucosidase inhibition, with the IC50 ranging from 2.91 to 26.0 µM, outperforming the standard acarbose (IC50 179 µM). Among these isolated compounds, compound 8 exhibited the highest inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase, with an IC50 value of 2.91 µM.

Rationale: Physical activity, lung function, and grip strength are associated with exacerbations, hospitalizations, and mortality in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We tested whether baseline inflammatory biomarkers were associated with longitudinal outcomes of these physiologic measurements. Methods: The COPD Activity: Serotonin Transporter, Cytokines, and Depression (CASCADE) study was a prospective observational study of individuals with COPD. Fourteen inflammatory biomarkers were measured at baseline. Participants were followed for 2 years. We analyzed associations between baseline biomarkers and FEV1, physical activity, and grip strength. We used a hierarchical hypothesis testing procedure to reduce type I error. We used Pearson correlations to test associations between baseline biomarkers and longitudinal changes in the outcomes of interest. We used Fisher's linear discriminant analysis to test if linear combinations of baseline biomarkers predict rapid FEV1 decline. Finally, we used linear mixed modeling to test associations between baseline biomarkers and outcomes of interest at baseline, year 1, and year 2; models were adjusted for age, smoking status, baseline biomarkers, and FEV1. Results: 302 participants (age 67.5 ± 8.5 years, 19.5% female, 28.5% currently smoking) were included. Baseline biomarkers were not associated with longitudinal changes in grip strength, physical activity, or rapid FEV1 decline. Higher IL-6 and CRP were associated with lower physical activity at baseline and these relationships persisted at year 1 and year 2. Conclusion: Baseline inflammatory biomarkers did not predict changes in lung function or physical activity, but higher inflammatory biomarkers were associated with persistently low levels of physical activity.

ABSTRACT

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains exceptionally challenging to treat. While CDK4/6 inhibitors have revolutionized HR + breast cancer therapy, there is limited understanding of their efficacy in TNBC and meaningful predictors of response and resistance to these drugs remain scarce. We conducted an in vivo genome-wide CRISPR screen using palbociclib as a selection pressure in TNBC. Hits were prioritized using microarray data from a large panel of breast cancer cell lines to identify top palbociclib sensitizers. Our study defines TGFß3 as an actionable determinant of palbociclib sensitivity that potentiates its anti-tumor effects. Mechanistically, we show that chronic palbociclib exposure depletes p21 levels, contributing to acquired resistance, and that TGFß3 treatment can overcome this. This study defines TGFß3 as an actionable biomarker that can be used to improve patient stratification for palbociclib treatment and exploits the synergistic interaction between CDK4/6 and TGFß3 to propose a new combinatorial treatment for TNBC.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To identify the efficacy and tolerability of Proteoglycan F in patients with primary knee OA.Design: A 24-week randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial with two arms: (1) Proteoglycan F (received 10 â€‹mg proteoglycan daily, for 24 weeks) and (2) control group (received placebo). Knee symptoms and joint cartilage status (evaluated by ultrasound and MRI of knee joints), quality of life, serum cytokine levels (IL-1ß and TNF-α), and safety evaluation were measured before, during, and after the treatment. Results: After 24-week treatment, pain reduction (in the KOOS pain score) of at least 20% and at least 50% (NRS scale) compared to baseline in the PGF group was significantly higher than those in the control group. The PGF group had greater reductions in the total scores of subchondral bone marrow edema, and bone cocoon under cartilage on knee MRI (classification according to WORMs), which were -2.27 (-4.0; -0.51) and -1.77 (-3.08; -0.46), respectively (p â€‹< â€‹0.05). The two groups had no statistically significant difference in knee ultrasound characteristics. After 4 weeks, 12, and 24 weeks compared to baseline, there was no statistically significant difference in levels of urea, creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine aminotransferase within the group and between the two study groups. Conclusions: Salmon cartilage PG with 10 â€‹mg per day has potential to improve pain symptoms and subchondral bone marrow edema and bone cocoon under cartilage lesions in primary knee OA. However, the efficacy of PGF should be viewed with caution, and future studies are needed for more specific evaluation.

ABSTRACT

Background: In this study, we assessed the general population's fears towards various diseases and events, aiming to inform public health strategies that balance health-seeking behaviours. Methods: We surveyed adults from 30 countries across all World Health Organization (WHO) regions between July 2020 and August 2021. Participants rated their fear of 11 factors on an 11-point Likert scale. We stratified the data by age and gender and examined variations across countries and regions through multidimensional preference analysis. Results: Of the 16 512 adult participants, 62.7% (n = 10 351) were women. The most feared factor was the loss of family members, reported by 4232 participants (25.9%), followed by cancer (n = 2248, 13.7%) and stroke (n = 1416, 8.7%). The highest weighted fear scores were for loss of family members (mean (x̄) = 7.46, standard deviation (SD) = 3.04), cancer (x̄ = 7.00, SD = 3.09), and stroke (x̄ = 6.61, SD = 3.24). The least feared factors included animals/insects (x̄ = 3.72, SD = 2.96), loss of a mobile phone (x̄ = 4.27, SD = 2.98), and social isolation (x̄ = 4.83, SD = 3.13). Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was the sixth most feared factor (x̄ = 6.23, SD = 2.92). Multidimensional preference analyses showed distinct fears of COVID-19 and job loss in Australia and Burundi. The other countries primarily feared loss of family members, cancer, stroke, and heart attacks; this ranking was consistent across WHO regions, economic levels, and COVID-19 severity levels. Conclusions: Fear of family loss can improve public health messaging, highlighting the need for bereavement support and the prevention of early death-causing diseases. Addressing cancer fears is crucial to encouraging the use of preventive services. Fear of non-communicable diseases remains high during health emergencies. ABSTRACT

Studies of SARS-CoV-2 incidence are important for response to continued transmission and future pandemics. We followed a rural community cohort with broad age representation with active surveillance for SARS-CoV-2 identification from November 2020 through July 2022. Participants provided serum specimens at regular intervals and following SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination. We estimated the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection identified by study RT-PCR, electronic health record documentation or self-report of a positive test, or serology. We also estimated the seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 spike and nucleocapsid antibodies measured by ELISA. Overall, 65% of the cohort had ≥1 SARS-CoV-2 infection by July 2022, and 19% of those with primary infection were reinfected. Infection and vaccination contributed to high seroprevalence, 98% (95% CI: 95%, 99%) of participants were spike or nucleocapsid seropositive at the end of follow-up. Among those seropositive, 82% were vaccinated. Participants were more likely to be seropositive to spike than nucleocapsid following infection. Infection among seropositive individuals could be identified by increases in nucleocapsid, but not spike, ELISA optical density values. Nucleocapsid antibodies waned more quickly after infection than spike antibodies. High levels of SARS-CoV-2 population immunity, as found in this study, are leading to changing epidemiology necessitating ongoing surveillance and policy evaluation.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Rates of dementia for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are three to five times greater compared to non-Indigenous Australians, with earlier age of onset. However, the risk and protective factors that drive these higher rates vary across existing cohort studies, with minimal findings on the role of vascular risk factors beyond stroke. Harmonisation of data across studies may offer greater insights through enhanced diversity and strengthened statistical capabilities. This study aims to combine three landmark cohort studies of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants to better understand the determinants of cognitive health and dementia. METHODS/DESIGN: Three cohort studies - the Kimberley Healthy Adults Project (KHAP, N = 363), Koori Growing Old Well Study (KGOWS, N = 336) and Torres Strait Dementia Prevalence Study (TSDPS, N = 274) - share a similar research methodology with demographic, medical history, psychosocial factors, cognitive tests and consensus clinical diagnoses of cognitive impairment and dementia. Associations between risk and protective factors of interest and the presence of dementia and/or cognitive impairment diagnoses will be evaluated by univariable and multivariable logistic regression in a harmonised cross-sectional cohort of 898 participants. Factors associated with incident dementia and/or cognitive impairment will be assessed in a subset of KHAP (n = 189) and KGOWS participants (n = 165) who were available in longitudinal follow-up, after exclusion of those with baseline dementia or cognitive impairment. Analyses in relation to outcome measure of death or dementia will be conducted to account for the competing risk of death. Logistic regression will be used to evaluate the association between the individual components of the 16-component Kimberley Indigenous Cognitive Assessment (KICA) tool and the presence of dementia and cognitive impairment determined by independent consensus diagnoses. Multivariable binary logistic regression will be used to adjust for the effect of confounding variables. Results will be reported as odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). DISCUSSION: Greater understanding of risk and protective factors of dementia and cognitive impairment relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples may improve approaches across the life course to delay cognitive decline and reduce dementia risk.

ABSTRACT

A highly efficient method for the direct construction of amide bonds via a selective cleavage of C-H and C[double bond, length as m-dash]C bonds in indole structures using an iodine-promoted approach was developed. Mechanistic studies indicated the formation of superoxide radicals obtained from molecular oxygen activation as a key intermediate step, which provided a precursor for subsequent oxidative ring-opening and intermolecular cyclization. A broad range of quinazolin-4(3H)-ones and tryptanthrins were synthesized in moderate to good yields under mild and environmentally benign conditions.

BACKGROUND: People living with dementia (PLWD) may experience substantial cognitive decline as the disease progresses, which interferes with their daily activities. This study aimed to assess physical activity (PA) performance and care dependency (CD) and identify factors related to PA among PLWD. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional study in 63 PLWD from National Geriatrics Hospital, Vietnam, from 2021 to 2023. We used the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and Care Dependency Scale (CDS) to assess the nutritional status and the levels of PA and CD, respectively. We used the Mann-Whitney test to compare the differences in the PA types and CD levels between dementia levels and a multivariable logistics regression model to analyze factors related to PA. RESULTS: More than half of the subjects had mild dementia. In total, 35% of the PLWD had a low level of PA, and 46.3% were completely independent of care. The mean score in each CDS aspect of the subjects with moderate/severe dementia was statistically significantly lower than that of those with mild dementia (p ≤ 0.05). Lower dependency (OR = 0.9; 95% CI = 0.88-0.99) and malnutrition (OR = 15.4; 95% CI = 1.18-20.21) were associated with insufficient PA in the PLWD. CONCLUSION: Formal caregivers and healthcare workers should encourage PLWD to perform physical activities at any level and personalize the development of tailored and nutritional care strategies for each individual.

ABSTRACT

Asthma is characterized by chronic inflammation and respiratory symptoms such as wheezing and coughing. In the United States, it affects 25 million people annually. Chronic smokers, poor adherence to medications, incorrect use of inhalers, and overall poor asthma control are known risk factors that lead to poorly controlled chronic asthmatics. Although asthma is traditionally categorized by severity, treatment by primary care providers is guided by the Global Initiative for Asthma or the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program. As more research is available, shared decision-making between health care providers and patients will lead to improved outcomes in managing chronic asthma.

ABSTRACT

Aqueous electrolytes are promising in large-scale energy storage applications due to intrinsic low toxicity, non-flammability, high ion conductivity, and low cost. However, pure water's narrow electrochemical stability window (ESW) limits the energy density of aqueous rechargeable batteries. Water-in-salt electrolytes (WiSE) proposal has expanded the ESW to over 3 V by changing electrolyte solvation structure. The limited solubility and WIS electrolyte crystallization have been persistent concerns for imide-based lithium salts. Asymmetric lithium salts compensate for the above flaws. However, studying the solvation structure of asymmetric salt aqueous electrolytes is rare. Here, we applied small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) and Raman spectroscope to reveal the solvation structure of imide-based asymmetric lithium salts. The SAXS spectra show the blue shifts of the lowerqpeak with decreased intensity as the increasing of concentration, indicating a decrease in the average distance between solvated anions. Significantly, an exponential decrease in the d-spacing as a function of concentration was observed. In addition, we also applied the Raman spectroscopy technique to study the evolutions of solvent-separated ion pairs (SSIPs), contacted ion pairs (CIPs), and aggregate ions (AGGs) in the solvation structure of asymmetric salt solutions.
