ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Depression is an independent risk factor for adverse outcomes of coronary heart disease (CHD). This study aimed to develop a depression risk prediction model for CHD patients. METHODS: This study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). In the training set, reference literature, logistic regression, LASSO regression, optimal subset algorithm, and machine learning random forest algorithm were employed to screen prediction variables, respectively. The optimal prediction model was selected based on the C-index, Net Reclassification Improvement (NRI), and Integrated Discrimination Improvement (IDI). A nomogram for the optimal prediction model was constructed. 3 external validations were performed. RESULTS: The training set comprised 1375 participants, with a depressive symptoms prevalence of 15.2 %. The optimal prediction model was constructed using predictors obtained from optimal subsets algorithm (C-index = 0.774, sensitivity = 0.751, specificity = 0.685). The model includes age, gender, education, marriage, diabetes, tobacco use, antihypertensive drugs, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). The model demonstrated consistent discrimination ability, accuracy, and clinical utility across the 3 external validations. LIMITATIONS: The applicable population of the model is CHD patients. And the clinical benefits of interventions based on the prediction results are still unknown. CONCLUSION: We developed a depression risk prediction model for CHD patients, which was presented in the form of a nomogram for clinical application.

OBJECTIVES: Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) is a risk gene for schizophrenia and involved in neurodevelopment and synaptic plasticity. Polymorphisms in NRG1 may affect psychotic symptoms in schizophrenia. This study investigated the effects of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs6982890 on peripheral plasma NRG1 immunoreactivity, clinical symptoms and cognitive functions in schizophrenia patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We recruited subjects from the Han population of northern China from 2010 to 2022. We first genotyped and analyzed 6 NRG1 SNPS in 1304 patients with schizophrenia and 871 healthy controls. Then, 91 patients with schizophrenia and 40 healthy controls were selected to detect the peripheral plasma NRG1 immunoreactivity by ELISA. Among them, 84 patients were divided into rs6982890 genotypes to analyze the correlation between NRG1 immunoreactivity and clinical symptoms. RESULTS: Rs6982890 allelic frequencies were statistically significant between patients and controls. Baseline peripheral plasma NRG1 immunoreactivity in patients were significantly lower than controls. NRG1 immunoreactivity in patients were significantly increased after 8 weeks of antipsychotic treatment and significantly correlated with clinical symptoms and cognitive function. Genotyping of patients with SNP rs6982890 indicated NRG1 immunoreactivity in CC genotype increased significantly after treatment, while CT genotype had no significant change. Baseline NRG1 immunoreactivity with the CT genotype were significantly higher than CC genotype. CONCLUSIONS: NRG1 SNP rs6982890 is significantly associated with schizophrenia in the Han population of northern China, and it may affect the effect of antipsychotic drug treatment by regulating the peripheral plasma NRG1 immunoreactivity.

ABSTRACT

A unique meso Ce(III)-containing antimonotungstate, {Na(OAc)(H2O)2[Ce4(tar)(Htar)2(Sb2W21O72)2(H2O)7]}244- (Ce4tar3; H4tar = tartaric acid), consisting of two enantiomeric parts with a butterfly-like configuration, was successfully synthesized by a one-pot in situ method and characterized. The coordination of d- or l-tar ligands induced the formation of Dawson-like {Ce2Sb2W21} with right or left configurations, thereby determining the d/l configurations of {Na(OAc)(H2O)2[Ce4(tar)(Htar)2(Sb2W21O72)2(H2O)7]}22-. Carboxyl groups link these two enantiomeric parts with Ce(III) ions from each other around the symmetric center of the P1̅ space group. The three types of tar ligands exhibit distinct coordination modes, and all coordinate with at least one W(VI) atom using one carboxylate oxygen atom and one α-OH. Ce4tar3 represents the largest case among those meso-dl-tar-functionalized polyoxometalates. Furthermore, Ce4tar3 exhibits excellent catalytic activity for synthesizing isoindolinones via the three-component reaction of 2-acetylbenzoic acids, amines, and phosphine oxides.

BACKGROUND: In China, the MTHFR 677T allele, unlike in most Western populations, is a rare genetic variant linked to various disorders. The contributing nutritional and genetic factors to this genetic risk remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to elucidate the interactions between genetic variations in total homocysteine (tHcy) pathway genes, serum tHcy levels, and nutritional factors in a hypertensive Chinese population. METHODS: This study analyzed 1,304 hypertensive Chinese adults aged 18 years and older enrolled in the China Precision Nutrition and Health KAP Real World Study (CPNAS). Serum levels of vitamin B12 and folate were measured using the magnetic microparticle chemiluminescence method, and tHcy levels were measured using Hcy Assay kits. Identification of the MTHFR C677T, MTHFR A1298C, and MTRR A66G polymorphisms was performed via time-of-flight nucleic spectrometry. RESULTS: Our findings revealed significant sex differences in tHcy levels, with males exhibiting higher tHcy levels than females (13.95 µmol/L vs. 11.15 µmol/L, p < 0.001). Individuals deficient in both vitamin B12 and folate had an increased risk of H-Hcy (57.4%). In contrast, the prevalence of H-Hcy was lower among those deficient in either vitamin B12 (31.1%) or folate (23.2%) alone. Significant associations were identified between the MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and elevated serum tHcy levels, particularly in individuals homozygous for the T allele. Conversely, the MTRR A66G genotype did not show a significant correlation with tHcy levels. Optimal vitamin B12 concentrations significantly modulated the genotypic effect on tHcy levels, with individuals having adequate vitamin B12 and folate exhibiting low tHcy levels, even among high-risk genotypes (TT). CONCLUSIONS: Adequate levels of folate and vitamin B12 significantly reduce serum tHcy concentrations and mitigate the genotypic impact on tHcy levels, highlighting the potential for targeted nutritional interventions to manage cardiovascular risks associated with hyperhomocysteinemia. ABSTRACT

Pressure-modulated self-trapped exciton (STE) emission mechanism in all-inorganic lead-free metal halide double perovskites characterized by large Stokes-shifted broadband emission, has attracted much attention across various fields such as optics, optoelectronics, and biomedical sciences. Here, by employing the all-inorganic lead-free metal halide double perovskite Cs2TeCl6 as a paradigm, the authors elucidate that the performance of STE emission can be modulated by pressure, attributable to the pressure-induced evolution of the electronic state (ES). Two ES transitions happen at pressures of 1.6 and 5.8 GPa, sequentially. The electronic behaviors of Cs2TeCl6 can be jointly modulated by both pressure and ES transitions. When the pressure reaches 1.6 GPa, the Huang-Rhys factor S, indicative of the strength of electron-phonon coupling, attains an optimum value of ≈12.0, correlating with the pressure-induced photoluminescence (PL) intensity of Cs2TeCl6 is 4.8-fold that of its PL intensity under ambient pressure. Through analyzing the pressure-dependent STE dynamic behavioral changes, the authors have revealed the microphysical mechanism underlying the pressure-modulated enhancement and quenching of STE emission in Cs2TeCl6.

ABSTRACT

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive type of breast cancer with poor prognosis, and neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) has emerged as an important component in managing advanced-stage patients by providing surgical opportunities and improving survival outcomes. A search of publications on NAT for TNBC from 2002 to 2023 was conducted through the Web of Science core collection. A comprehensive bibliometric analysis was conducted on the data using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix. The analysis revealed a continuous and steady growth in the number of articles published in this field over the past 20 years. The United States has made significant contributions to this field, with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center publishing the most articles. Loibl, S. from Germany was found to be the most published author with 54 articles. Analysis of the journals showed that the Journal of Clinical Oncology is the most cited journal. Combined with the keyword co-occurrence analysis and clustering analysis, current research topic focuses on treatment regimens and disease prognosis. Dual-map overlay of the journals indicates that the research trend is gradually shifting from molecular biology and genetics to immunology and clinical research. Combination therapy, including immunotherapy, may be the future direction for NAT treatment of TNBC. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the current research status, latest advancements, and emerging development trend of NAT for TNBC.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Mechanisms of non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS) resistance to azithromycin have rarely been reported. Here we investigate the epidemiology and genetic features of 10 azithromycin-resistant NTS isolates. METHODS: A total of 457 NTS isolates were collected from a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou. We performed antimicrobial susceptibility tests, conjugation experiments, efflux pump expression tests, whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis to conduct the study. RESULTS: The results showed that 10 NTS isolates (2.8%) were resistant to azithromycin with minimum inhibitory concentration values ranging from 128 to 512 mg/L and exhibited multidrug resistance. The phylogenetic tree revealed that 5 S. London isolates (AR1-AR5) recognized at different times and departments were closely related [3-74 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs)] and 2 S. Typhimurium isolates (AR7 and AR8) were clones (<3 SNPs) at 3-month intervals. The azithromycin resistance was conferred by mph(A) gene found on different plasmids, including IncFIB, IncHI2, InFII, IncC and IncI plasmids. Among them, IncFIB, InFII and IncHI2 plasmids carried different IS26-class 1 integron (intI1) arrangement patterns that mediated multidrug resistance transmission. Conjugative IncC plasmid encoded resistance to ciprofloxacin, ceftriaxone and azithromycin. Furthermore, phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that mph(A)-positive plasmids closely related to 10 plasmids in this study were mainly discovered from NTS, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia and Enterobacter hormaechei. The genetic environment of mph(A) in 10 NTS isolates was IS26-mph(A)-mrx(A)-mphR(A)-IS6100/IS26 that co-arranged with intI1 harbour multidrug-resistant (MDR) gene cassettes on diverse plasmids. CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlighted that the dissemination of these plasmids carrying mph(A) and various intI1 MDR gene cassettes would seriously restrict the availability of essential antimicrobial agents for treating NTS infections.

ABSTRACT

The mechanisms of anxiety disorders, the most common mental illness, remain incompletely characterized. The ventral hippocampus (vHPC) is critical for the expression of anxiety. However, current studies primarily focus on vHPC neurons, leaving the role for vHPC astrocytes in anxiety largely unexplored. Here, genetically encoded Ca2+ indicator GCaMP6m and in vivo fiber photometry calcium imaging are used to label vHPC astrocytes and monitor their activity, respectively, genetic and chemogenetic approaches to inhibit and activate vHPC astrocytes, respectively, patch-clamp recordings to measure glutamate currents, and behavioral assays to assess anxiety-like behaviors. It is found that vHPC astrocytic activity is increased in anxiogenic environments and by 3-d subacute restraint stress (SRS), a well-validated mouse model of anxiety disorders. Genetic inhibition of vHPC astrocytes exerts anxiolytic effects on both innate and SRS-induced anxiety-related behaviors, whereas hM3Dq-mediated chemogenetic or SRS-induced activation of vHPC astrocytes enhances anxiety-like behaviors, which are reversed by intra-vHPC application of the ionotropic glutamate N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor antagonists. Furthermore, intra-vHPC or systemic application of the N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor antagonist memantine, a U.S. FDA-approved drug for Alzheimer's disease, fully rescues SRS-induced anxiety-like behaviors. The findings highlight vHPC astrocytes as critical regulators of stress and anxiety and as potential therapeutic targets for anxiety and anxiety-related disorders.

BACKGROUND: Bleomycin, originally an antitumor drug, was explored as a pathological scar treatment in the mid-1990s. However, its efficacy and safety profile varies among individuals. AIMS: This study aimed to assess topical bleomycin's efficacy and safety in treating hypertrophic scars and keloids. METHODS: We reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) published in English, comparing intralesional bleomycin to placebos or common intralesional scar treatments. Primary outcomes included percentage change in scar improvement, pigmentation, recurrence, atrophy, pain, telangiectasia, ulceration, patient self-assessment, and observer assessment (>50%). RESULTS: Six trials met the criteria. Bleomycin significantly improved scar reduction compared to triamcinolone (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in pigmentation (p = 0.05) and recurrence (p = 0.21) compared to other treatments. In terms of safety, bleomycin caused less skin atrophy (p < 0.01) and telangiectasia (p < 0.01) but more pain (p = 0.03) than other treatments. CONCLUSIONS: Bleomycin was more effective than TAC, 5-FU, or TAC combined with 5-FU for treating keloids and hypertrophic scars with lower skin atrophy and telangiectasia risks. However, it may cause more pain than 5-FU or TAC. Further comprehensive studies, including RCTs, are required for objective analysis.

BACKGROUND: Aging is an inevitable biological process. Accelerated aging renders adults more susceptible to chronic diseases and increases their mortality rates. Previous studies have reported the relationship between lifestyle factors and phenotypic aging. However, the relationship between intrinsic factors, such as reproductive factors, and phenotypic aging remains unclear. METHODS: This study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), spanning from 1999 to 2010 and 2015-2018, with 14,736 adult women. Random forest imputation was used to handle missing covariate values in the final cohort. Weighted linear regression was utilized to analyze the relationship between women-specific reproductive factors and PhenoAgeAccel. Considering the potential impact of menopausal status on the results, additional analyses were conducted on premenopausal and postmenopausal participants. Additionally, the Life's Essential 8 (LE8) was used to investigate the impact of healthy lifestyle and other factors on the relationship between women-specific reproductive factors and PhenoAgeAccel. Stratified analyses were conducted based on significant interaction p-values. RESULTS: In the fully adjusted models, delayed menarche and gynecological surgery were associated with increased PhenoAgeAccel, whereas pregnancy history were associated with a decrease. Additionally, early or late ages of menopause, first live birth, and last live birth can all negatively impact PhenoAgeAccel. The relationship between women-specific reproductive factors and PhenoAgeAccel differs between premenopausal and postmenopausal women. High LE8 scores positively impacted the relationship between certain reproductive factors (age at menarche, age at menopause, age at first live birth, and age at last live birth) and phenotypic age acceleration. Stratified analysis showed significant interactions for the following variables: BMI with age at menarche, pregnancy history, and age at menopause; ethnicity with age at menopause, age at first live birth, and parity; smoking status with use of contraceptive pills and gynecologic surgery; hypertension with use of contraceptive pills, pregnancy history, and age at menopause. CONCLUSION: Delayed menarche, gynecological surgery, and early or late ages of menopause, first live birth, and last live birth are associated with accelerated phenotypic aging. High LE8 score may alleviate the adverse effects of reproductive factors on phenotypic aging.

ABSTRACT

Gut flora is considered to modulate lipid transport from the intestine into the bloodstream, and thus may potentially participate in the development of GDM. Although previous studies have shown that the intestinal microbiota influences lipid transport and metabolism in GDM, the precise mechanisms remain elusive. To address this, we used a high-fat diet (HFD)-induced GDM mouse model and conducted 16s rRNA sequencing and fecal metabolomics to assess gut microbial community shifts and associated metabolite changes. Western blot, ELISA, and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) were utilized to elucidate how gut microbiota affect intestinal lipid transport and the insulin sensitivity of hepatic, adipose, and skeletal muscle tissues. We found that HFD impaired the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and insulin tolerance test (ITT) in pregnant mice. 16s rRNA sequencing demonstrated profound compositional changes, especially in the relative abundances of Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. Metabolomics analysis presented a decline in the concentration of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the GDM group. Western blot analyses showed an upregulation of HDAC3 and a concurrent reduction in H3K27 acetylation in the intestine. ChIP-qPCR showed that PPAR-γ was inhibited, which in turn activated lipid-transporter CD36. ELISA and insulin signaling pathway detection in insulin-target organs showed high concentrations of circulating fatty acids and triglycerides and insulin resistance in insulin-target organs. Our results suggest that gut microbiota is closely associated with the development of GDM, partly because decreased gut flora-associated SCFAs activate CD36 by suppressing the HDAC3-H3K27ac-PPAR-γ axis to transport excessive fatty acids and triglycerides into blood circulation, thereby dysregulating the insulin sensitivity of insulin target organs.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to define the calf proportion index (CPI) and investigate its association with malnutrition and survival in overweight and obese patients with cancer. METHODS: This multicenter observational cohort study included 3499 patients diagnosed with cancer, including 3145 overweight and 354 obese individuals. The CPI was defined as the ratio of the cross-sectional area of the calf circumference (CC) to the body surface area (BSA). A CPI calculator that automatically calculated the CPI and survival probability based on the patient's sex, height, weight, and CC was developed. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 44.1 months, 935 deaths were recorded. Receiver operating characteristic curves revealed that the CPI was better than CC and BSA as a predictor of survival, with AUCs for the 3-year mortality rate were 0.574, 0.553 and 0.529, respectively. In overweight and obese patients with cancer, the optimal CPI cut-off value was 0.65 % for men and 0.57 % for women. The Kaplan-Meier curve revealed that patients with a low CPI had lower survival. After adjusting confounding factors, a low CPI was an independent risk factor for overweight (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.29, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 1.11-1.51, P < 0.001) and obesity (HR: 1.92, 95 % CI: 1.20-3.09, P = 0.007) in patients with cancer. The CPI exhibited significant prognostic value in patients with lung and digestive system cancers. The risk of malnutrition was significantly higher in patients with a low CPI (HR: 1.25, 95 % CI: 1.04-1.50, P = 0.019). CONCLUSIONS: The CPI is a useful prognostic indicator in overweight and obese patients with cancer, especially in obese patients.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To evaluate glymphatic function changes and their relationships with clinical features in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), thereby facilitating early intervention before this disease progresses to cirrhosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional cohort of 46 pre-cirrhotic MAFLD patients and 30 age-, sex-, and education-matched controls was enrolled, with diffusion-tensor imaging (DTI) data, laboratory and neurocognitive scores collected. The DTI analysis along the perivascular space (DTI-ALPS) index was computed for qualifying glymphatic function. Generalized linear model and partial correlation analyses were applied to evaluate relationships between the ALPS index and clinical variables. RESULTS: MAFLD group exhibited a decreased ALPS index and increased diffusivity along the y-axis in the projection fiber compared to the controls. The altered ALPS index was associated with clock drawing test (CDT) score (3.931 [0.914, 6.947], P = 0.011) and was correlated with diastolic pressure level (r = -0.315, P = 0.033) in MAFLD group. The relationships of ALPS index with CDT score (6.263 [2.069, 10.458], P = 0.003) and diastolic pressure level (r = -0.518, P = 0.014) remained in the MAFLD with metabolic syndrome (MetS) group. Furthermore, the ALPS index was even associated with Auditory Verbal Learning Test-Immediate recall score (-23.853 [-45.417, -2.289], P = 0.030) in MAFLD with MetS group. CONCLUSION: MAFLD patients may have a glymphatic dysfunction prior to cirrhosis, and this alteration may be related to cognition and diastolic pressure. Glymphatic dysfunction has a more severe impact on cognition when MAFLD patient is accompanied by MetS.

Objective: There is limited research on the relationship between the frequency of plant-based food intake and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) among elderly Chinese. This study aims to evaluate the association between plant-based dietary index (PDI) and CVD risks, providing evidence for elderly Chinese to reduce CVD risks by increasing the frequency of plant-based food consumption. Methods: This study analyzed data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS) 2011-2018, employing a multivariate modified Poisson regression model, trend tests, and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis to assess the linear and non-linear relationship between the PDI and CVD risks. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests were conducted to evaluate the robustness and population-specificity of the results. Results: This study included a total of 1,414 elderly Chinese, and at the end of follow-up, 487 participants had developed CVD. The multivariate modified Poisson regression model revealed a negative association between PDI and CVD risks [RR = 0.983, 95%CI = (0.970, 0.997)]. Similarly, the multivariate trend test (p = 0.031) and RCS analysis (P for nonlinear = 0.600) indicated a linear relationship between PDI and CVD risks. Subgroup analyses showed that the relationship between PDI and CVD risk was not influenced by gender, BMI, smoking, alcohol use, or exercise. Conclusion: The PDI was negatively correlated with CVD risks, indicating that increasing the frequency of plant-based food intake in the diet may reduce CVD risks among elderly Chinese.

ABSTRACT

Electrification plays a crucial role in deep decarbonization. However, electrification and power infrastructure can cause mutual challenges. We use nationwide power outage and electric vehicle adoption data in China to provide empirical evidence on how power infrastructure failures can deter electrification. We find that when the number of power outages per district increases by 1 in a given month, the number of new electric vehicles adopted per month decreases by 0.99%. A doubling of power outages in one year on average across the nation can create a depressed adoption rate for up to a decade, implying a decline of more than $ 31.3 million per year in carbon reduction benefits from electric vehicle adoptions. This paper adds to the policy discussion of the costs of increased power outages due to extreme weather and natural disasters, and the urgency for policy to address this issue to facilitate wide adoption of electrification.

ABSTRACT

The fabrication of luminescent dye@MOF composites has received extensive attentions in the development of realistic sensing applications. Herein, based on two anionic In-MOFs with different pore structure (1 and 2), the charge and size dependent ion-exchange of cationic dyes was investigated, and consequently four luminescent dye@MOF composites (DMASM@1/2 and RhB@1/2) were successfully fabricated and importantly can be regarded as ideal platforms for better understanding of the factors affecting the construction of dye@MOF composites, which may closely related to a well match between the intrinsic properties and size/charge of the fluorescent molecules and the porosity, structure character of the MOF hosts. Furthermore, these four dye@MOF composites were utilized for sensing of different kinds of antibiotics, demonstrating enhanced selectivity and sensitivity. DMASM@1/2 demonstrated excellent selectivity and sensitivity for NFT and NFZ antibiotics, while RhB@1/2 exhibited excellent selectivity and sensitivity for MDZ and DTZ antibiotics. Systematic analysis of the detection mechanism revealed that different energy transfer efficiency and interaction between MOF frameworks and different types of guest dyes led to different selectivity and detection mechanisms for antibiotics. Moreover, high selectivity and sensitivity, low LOD and extraordinary recycling capacity of four dye@MOF composites in the detection of antibiotics promote their excellent prospect in the further practical application.

ABSTRACT

Yeast ß-glucan (BYG) possesses extremely low solubility that has limited its applications. In this study, we hydrolyzed BYG using snail enzyme to obtain hydrolyzed yeast ß-glucan (HBYG) with desirable water solubility and hypoglycemic activity. On the basis of HBYG, HBYG­chromium(III) complex (HBYG-Cr) was synthesized. The molecular weight of the complex was 4.41 × 104 Da, and the content of trivalent chromium was 8.95 %. The hydroxyl groups of HBYG participated in the coordination and formed the chromium complex. The space conformations of HBYG exhibited remarkable changes after complex formation. HBYG-Cr existed mainly in an amorphous state and presented good dispersibility, and the surface was uneven. The hypoglycemic activity of HBYG-Cr was studied in db/db and C57 mice. The results showed that HBYG-Cr had good hypoglycemic activity. Histopathological studies demonstrated that the liver, kidney, pancreas, and skeletal muscle in the treatment group were significantly improved compared with those in the diabetic model group. The sub-acute toxicity of HBYG-Cr was studied in KM mice and the results indicated that the complex did not cause adverse reactions or toxic side effects. This study broadened the application of yeast ß-glucan and provided an important reference for the development of hypoglycemic functional foods and drugs.

BACKGROUND: In patients with schizophrenia, there is abnormal regional functional synchrony. However, whether it also in patients with adolescent-onset schizophrenia (AOS) remains unclear. The goal of this study was to analyze the regional homogeneity (ReHo) of resting functional magnetic resonance imaging to explore the functional abnormalities of the brain in patients with AOS. METHODS: The study included 107 drug-naive first-episode AOS patients and 67 healthy, age, sex, and education-matched controls using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging scans. The ReHo method was used to analyze the imaging dataset. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the ReHo values of the right inferior frontal gyrus orbital part, right middle frontal gyrus (MFG.R), left inferior parietal, but supramarginal and angular gyri, and left precentral gyrus (PreCG.L) were significantly increased and the ReHo value of the left posterior cingulate cortex/anterior cuneiform lobe was significantly decreased in schizophrenia patients. ROC analysis showed that the ReHo values of the MFG.R and PreCG.L might be regarded as potential markers in helping to identify patients. Furthermore, the PANSS scores in the patient group and the ReHo values showed a positive correlation between MFG.R ReHo values and general scores. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggested that AOS patients had ReHo abnormalities. The ReHo values of these abnormal regions may serve as potential imaging biomarkers for the identification of AOS patients.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The impact of lipids on the overall survival (OS) of patients with malignancy has not yet been clarified. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of hyperlipidemia on the OS among Chinese patients based on Body Mass Index (BMI) stratifications and hyperlipidemia types. METHOD: The patients in this study were derived from the Investigation of the Nutrition Status and Clinical Outcome of Common Cancers (INSCOC) trial. Kaplan-Meier was used to draw the survival curve, and the log-rank test was used to estimate the survival rates between each group. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate the hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS: A total of 9054 patients were included in the final study, with a median age of 59 years, and 55.3% (5004) of them were males. Regarding types of hyperlipidemia, only low high-density lipoprotein was an independent risk factor for the prognosis of all patients (HR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.25-1.45, P < 0.001), while high total cholesterol (HR = 1.01, 95% CI: 0.90-1.15, P = 0.839) and high low-density lipoprotein (HR = 1.03, 95%CI: 0.91-1.16, P = 0.680) were not. In terms of BMI stratification, the effect of triglycerides on prognosis varied; high triglycerides were an independent risk factor for the prognosis of underweight patients (HR = 1.56, 95% CI:1.05-2.32, P = 0.027) and a protective factor for overweight patients (HR = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.63-0.89, P = 0.001). However, for normal-weight patients, there was no significant statistical difference (HR = 0.88, 95%CI: 0.75-1.03, P = 0.108). CONCLUSIONS: The impact of hyperlipidemia on the OS among patients with cancer varied by different BMI and hyperlipidemia types. BMI and hyperlipidemia type ought to be considered in combination to estimate the prognosis of patients with malignancy.
