ABSTRACT

A randomized double-blind study of the efficacy of midocalm combined with tractional therapy has been carried out in 24 patients (indexed group) comparing to the tractional therapy without midocalm (the drug has been substituted with placebo) in 25 patients (comparison group). The effective number of injections was 3-6 in the indexed group and 7 in the comparison group. A quantitative assessment revealed that in the indexed group treatment efficacy was 1,56 times higher and the effect achieved sooner than in the comparison group.

ABSTRACT

Phonoangiography was conducted in 113 patients with various diseases of the brain. From comparison of the findings of clinical and angiographic examination the authors defined typical phonoangiographic criteria for the diagnosis of arterial and arteriovenous aneurysms of the brain which can be used in out- and inpatient practice.

ABSTRACT

Appraisal of the results of surgical treatment of 7 patients with arterial aneurysms of the carotid channel convinced the authors of the useful applicability of extra-intracranial anastomosis in occlusion of the cerebral arteries. The anastomosis provides for adequate compensation of circulation in the brain in occlusion of not only the internal carotid artery but also the middle cerebral artery. Depending on the surgical situation, extra-intracranial anastomosis can be performed both as a planned procedure and as an emergency measure. Emergency establishment of the anastomosis is useful in all cases of complications of the operations terminating in occlusion of the internal carotid or middle cerebral artery.

ABSTRACT

On the basis of simultaneous measurement of the rheosubcorticogram, polarogram, intracerebral pressure (ICP), ECoG and subcorticogram in patients with electrodes and sensors implanted in the brain, it was established that with the development of the seizure a rapidly reversible growth in the amplitude of deep rheoencephalogram, pO2 and ICP occurs beginning from the subclinical phase of epileptogenesis augmentation. According to the findings of deep rheoencephalography, the values of the tonic-elastic properties of the cerebral vessels undergo two-phase changes with the development of stable vasoparesis. The results of the study show that reactive hyperemia of the brain is the cause of the increased ICP; the cerebral perfusion pressure decreases in this case. A close correlation has been established between the values that were studied, particularly in the period of post-seizure coma.
