ABSTRACT

Lithium (Li) metal batteries have attracted considerable research attention due to their exceptionally high theoretical capacity. However, the commercialization of Li metal batteries faces challenges, primarily attributed to uncontrolled growth of Li dendrites, which raises safety concerns and lowers coulombic efficiency. To mitigate Li dendrites growth and attain dense Li deposition, the hybrid SiO2-Cu2O lithiophilic film applied to a 3D copper foam current collector is developed to regulate the interfacial properties for achieving even and dense Li deposition. The SiO2-Cu2O possesses strong Li+ trapping capability through strong lithiophilicity from Cu2O. Additionally, the SiO2-Cu2O enables uniform ion diffusion through the domain-limiting effect of the holes in the SiO2 layer, inducing an even and dense Li plating/stripping behavior at a large capacity. Furthermore, the SiO2 layer promotes the formation of an initial high inorganic content Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) through selective preferential binding with anion and solvent molecules. When the SiO2-Cu2O@Li anode is coupled with a LiFePO4 (LFP) cathode, the resulting full cell exhibits superior cycling stability and rate performance. These results provide a facile approach to construct a lithiophilic current collector for practical Li metal anodes.

ABSTRACT

In this study, we describe the direct insertion of an intramolecular nitrogen atom into an aromatic C-C bond. In this transformation, carbamoyl azides are activated by a Rh catalyst and subsequently directly inserted into the C-C bond of an arene ring to access fused azepine products. This transformation is challenging, owing to the existence of a competitive C-H amination pathway. The use of a paddlewheel dirhodium complex Rh2(esp)2 effectively inhibited the undesired C-H insertion. Density functional theory calculations were performed to reveal the reaction mechanism and origin of the chemoselectivity of the Rh-catalyzed reactions. The novel fused azepine products are highly robust and allow for downstream diversification.

ABSTRACT

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a common and lethal malignant tumor originating from bile duct epithelial cells. Various tumor biomarkers have been used for its clinical screening, such as carbohydrate antigen 19-9 and carcinoembryonic antigen. This study aimed to demonstrate the value of associated genes-CMT1A duplicated region transcript 15 (CDRT15) for prognosis of CCA by integrated bioinformatics analysis. We obtained CDRT15 expression data and clinical information on patients with CCA from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Then, we processed the data by differentially expressed gene analysis, gene set enrichment analysis, statistical analysis, etc. Gene Ontology enrichment analysis was aimed to explore the function of gene-related proteins. Single-sample gene set enrichment analysis was used to analyze the correlation between CDRT15 and immune cells. Finally, we constructed the nomogram to predict the prognosis of patients with CCA. The analysis of data in The Cancer Genome Atlas database revealed that CDRT15 was overexpressed in CCA tissues. We performed the interrelation analysis of immune infiltration, showing that CDRT15 are mainly associated with the immune/inflammatory response. ROC curve showed that CDRT15 can be a diagnostic marker of CCA. Subsequently, the prognostic analysis showed that the high expression of CDRT15 was correlated with the poor OS, and patients with high CDRT15 expression may have a poor prognosis. CDRT15 is more highly expressed in CCA, thus we identified that CDRT15 could be an efficient biomarker for patients. CDRT15 expression was negatively correlated with prognosis of CCA. CDRT15 may be involved in the immune infiltration process of CCA.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Poststroke depression (PSD) is a common clinical poststroke complication that adversely affects cognitive and physical function rehabilitation. Scalp acupuncture (SA) can significantly improve somatic dysfunction and emotional disorder in stroke patients. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of SA in the treatment of PSD. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search of multiple electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Internet, China Science and Technology Journal Database, Wan Fang Data Knowledge Service Platform, and China Biology Medicine databases until December 20, 2022, to identify randomized controlled trials investigating the efficacy of SA in the treatment of PSD. Two independent researchers screened the literature, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias in the included studies based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. We performed a meta-analysis of the eligible literature using RevMan 5.4.1 and Stata 15.0 software. RESULTS: This study comprised a total of 14 randomized controlled trials, 10 of which used SA and 4 of which used SA in combination with electroacupuncture therapy. The results of the meta-analysis revealed that the effective rate of the SA group was significantly higher than that of the Western medicine group (relative risk = 1.09, 95% confidence interval (CI) [1.02, 1.16], P = .008). Moreover, compared to the Western medicine group, the SA group demonstrated significant improvements in Hamilton depression scale scores (mean difference = -2.29, 95% CI [-3.88, -0.70], P = .005) and neurological function deficit scores (mean difference = -3.06, 95% CI [-5.91, -0.21], P = .04). Additionally, the SA group has a lower incidence of adverse events than the western medicine group (relative risk = 0.12, 95% CI [0.05, 0.29], P < .00001). CONCLUSION: SA has superior efficacy and safety compared to Western medicine for PSD. These findings suggest that SA could be a promising alternative treatment for the assessed condition. Due to the limited number and quality of the included literature, the above conclusions must be confirmed by additional high-quality research.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common complications of diabetes and has become a major global cause of blindness. Curcumin, an extract of Curcuma longa (turmeric), is effective in preventing and treating diabetes. Recent studies have shown that curcumin can delay DR development. However, there has been no systematic review of its treatment of DR. This study will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of currently published randomized controlled trials (RCT) of curcumin for treating DR patients to evaluate its efficacy and safety. METHODS: We will search the relevant studies of curcumin in the treatment of DR in PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP, and Wanfang databases from their respective inception dates to May 2022. A meta-analysis of the data extracted from qualified RCTs will be conducted, including the progression of DR, visual acuity, visual field, macular edema, quality of life, and adverse events. The meta-analysis will be performed using Review Manager 5.4.1 software, and the results will be based on either random-effects or fixed-effects models, depending on the heterogeneity. The Grading of Recommendations, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system will be used to evaluate the reliability and quality of evidence. RESULTS: The results of this study will provide sound and high-quality evidence for the efficacy and safety of curcumin in the treatment of DR. CONCLUSION: This study will be the first meta-analysis to comprehensively assess the efficacy and safety of curcumin in the treatment of DR and will provide helpful evidence for the clinical management of this disease. ABSTRACT

Background: Oculomotor nerve palsy (ONP) is a clinically occurring neurological disorder. Due to the complex anatomy and long travel distances of the oculomotor nerve, the causes of ONP vary and manifest in various ways. With continued interest in this area, it has become necessary to conduct a bibliometric study in ONP. This work aims to synthesize and visually identify current research themes and future trends in ONP through a literature-based analysis. Method: Articles and reviews on ONP published from 2002 to 2021 were derived from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database. We generated visual images and performed quantitative and qualitative analysis through an online bibliometric tool, Citespace and VOSviewer software. Results: A total of 1,205 published articles were included in this analysis. The annual number of this area's publications is showing an overall upward trend, with the number of citations increasing every year, reaching 2,698 by 2021. The United States (367) and Japan (116) dominated the list with the most numerous articles published. The University of California Los Angeles in the USA is the institution that published the highest number of articles (47). Engle EC (23) and the JOURNAL OF NEUROSURGERY (46) are the most influential authors and journals in this field. The co-occurrence network analysis divided the keywords into five main research themes, which mainly include clinical manifestations of ONP, aneurysms, cerebral neurological symptoms, diseases with ONP as a complication, and other neurological disorders. Conclusion: This study is the first comprehensive and systematic bibliometric analysis of the current state of global ONP research over the past 20 years. We organized current hotspots and expected trends and provided key information for exploring potential research frontiers in ONP.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of early electroacupuncture (EA) intervention on Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway in mice with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), so as to explore its mechanisms underlying alleviation of ALS. METHODS: Fifty-four ALS (ALS-SOD1G93A) mice with SOD1G93A gene mutation identified by PCR were randomly divided into model group, 60 day(d) EA group and 90 d EA group(n=18 mice in each group), and other 18 ALS-SOD1G93A negative mice were used as the control group. At the age of 60 and 90 days, mice of the two EA groups received EA (2 Hz, 1 mA) stimulation of bilateral "Jiaji" (EX-B2) of L1-L2 and L5-L6 for 20 min, twice a week for 4 weeks, respectively. When being 60 days old, the mice in the model and control groups were subjected to the same binding as that in the two EA groups but without EA intervention. The tail suspension test was used to judge the onset time of disease and the survival period, and rotary rod fatigue test was used to evaluate the hind limb motor function. Nissl staining method was used to observe the content of Nissl bodies in the anterior horn of the lumbar spinal cord. Immunohistochemical staining was used to observe the expression of ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule-1 (Iba-1) in the anterior horn of the lumbar spinal cord, and Western blot was used to detect the relative expression of TLR4, NF-κB and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the lumbar spinal cord. RESULTS: The disease onset time apparently delayed in the 60 d EA group than in the model group (P<0.01). The survival time was apparently shorter in the model group than in the control group (P<0.01), and obviously prolonged in the 60 d EA and 90 d EA groups than in the model group (P<0.01). The rotatory rod time was obviously shorter in the model group than in the control group (P<0.05), and apparently longer in the 60 d EA group than in the model group and 90 d EA group (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the model group had a decrease in the number of Nissl bodies in the anterior horn of the lumbar spinal cord (P<0.01), and an increase in the expression levels of Iba-1, TLR4, NF-κB and TNF-α in the lumbar spinal cord (P<0.01). In contrast to the model group, both 60 d EA and 90 d EA groups had an apparent increase in the number of Nissl bodies and a marked decrease in the expression levels of Iba-1, TLR4, NF-κB and TNF-α in the lumbar spinal cord (P<0.05, P<0.01). The therapeutic effects of 60 d EA group were evidently superior to those of 90 d EA group in delaying the onset time of disease, prolonging the survival time and rotatory rod time, increasing the number of Nissl bodies, and in down-regulating the expression of Iba-1, TLR4, NF-κB and TNF-α (P<0.05, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The early intervention of EX-B2 EA is more effective in delaying the progression of ALS than post-onset intervention in ALS-SOD1G93A mice, which may be related to its functions in inhibiting the excessive activation of microglia, and down-regulating TLR4/NF-κB signaling.

ABSTRACT

Garnet-type Li6.4 La3 Zr1.4 Ta0.6 O12 (LLZ) electrolyte is a promising candidate for high-performance solid-state batteries, while its applications are hindered by interfacial problems. Although the utilization of functional coatings and molten lithium (Li) effectively solves the LLZ interfacial compatibility problem with Li metal, it poses problems such as high cost, high danger, and structural damage. Herein, a mixed conductive layer (MCL) is introduced at the LLZ/Li interface (RT-MCL) via an in situ cold bonding process at room temperature. Such a stable and compact RT-MCL can effectively suppress side reactions and protect the crystal structure of LLZ, and it also inhibits growth of Li dendrites and promotes uniform Li deposition. The critical current density (CCD) of the Li symmetric cell composed of RT-MCL-LLZ is increased to 1.8 mA cm-2 and provides stable cycling performance over 2000 h under 0.5 mA cm-2 . Additionally, this in situ cold bonding treatment can significantly reduce cost and eliminate potential safety issues caused by the high-temperature processing of Li metal. This work highlights tremendous potential of this cold bonding technique in the reasonable design and optimization of the LLZ/Li interface.

ABSTRACT

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol is a perioperative management theory aimed at reducing the injury of surgical patients and accelerating postoperative recovery. It has been widely recognized and applied in elective surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical value of the ERAS protocol during the perioperative period of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in elderly patients with acute cholecystitis. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical value of the ERAS protocol during the perioperative period of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in elderly patients with acute cholecystitis. We collected medical data from 126 elderly patients with acute cholecystitis from October 2018 to August 2021. Among the 126 patients, 70 were included in the ERAS group and 56 in the traditional group. We analyzed the clinical data and postoperative indicators of the 2 groups. No significant differences were observed regarding the general characteristics of the 2 groups (P > .05). The ERAS group had significantly earlier time to first flatus, time to first ambulation, and time to solid intake, compared with the traditional group (P < .001); additionally, the ERAS group had significantly shorter stay and gentler feeling of postoperative pain (P < .001). Furthermore, the ERAS group had significant incidences of lower postoperative lung (P = .029) and abdominal cavity infection (P = .025) compared to the traditional group. No significant difference was observed regarding the incidences of other postoperative complications between the 2 groups (P > .05). The ERAS protocol helps reduce elderly patients' stress reactions and accelerate postoperative recovery. Thus, it is effective and beneficial to implement the ERAS protocol during the perioperative period of elderly patients with acute cholecystitis.

ABSTRACT

The structural motif of biazoles is the predominant substructure of many natural products, pharmaceuticals, and organic materials. Considerable efforts have focused on synthesizing these compounds; however, a limited number of processes have been reported for the efficient formation of biazoles. Herein, we report a "pre-join" approach for the dehydrogenative synthesis of biazoles, which are challenging to prepare using conventional methods. A bench-stable and easily synthesized pyrazine-based group is critical for this transformation. This strategy enables the homocoupling of biazoles and the heterocoupling of two different azoles. Due to the broad substrate scope, this strategy exhibits potential for use in other fields, such as medicine, materials, and natural product chemistry.

ABSTRACT

The uncontrollable growth of lithium (Li) dendrites and the instability of the Li/electrolyte interface hinder the development of next-generation rechargeable lithium metal batteries. The combination of inorganic nanoparticles and polymers as the artificial SEI layer shows great potential in regulating lithium-ion flux. Here, we design spatially confined LiF nanoparticles in an aligned polymer matrix as the artificial SEI layer. A high dielectric polymer matrix homogenizes the electric field near the surface of lithium metal. Aligned pores with LiF nanoparticles promote the lithium-ion transport across the artificial SEI layer. The synergistic effect of the highly polar ß-phase PVDF and LiF nanoparticles provides high stability over 900 h for the Li//Li symmetrical cell. Besides, a Li//LFP full battery equipped with this artificial layer shows good performance in the commercial carbonate electrolyte, demonstrating the great potential of this protective film in lithium metal batteries.

ABSTRACT

Glaucoma is a severe blindness-causing optic nerve disease characterized by a loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). Previous studies have shown that the Tongqiao Mingmu (TQMM) formula can reduce retinal and optic nerve damage, but its mechanism of action requires further elucidation. In this study, an RGC injury model was prepared using glutamate and then treated with serum-containing drug from the TQMM formula (hereafter called "TQMM formula serum"). In the glutamate-induced RGC injury model, cell viability decreased with an increase in glutamate concentration, whereas the expression of autophagy-related biomarkers LC3 and Belicin-1 increased. An adenovirus transfection experiment revealed that glutamate markedly promoted autophagic flux in RGCs. Notably, TQMM formula serum inhibited the expression of autophagy-related biomarkers, reduced autophagy flux, and reversed the damage caused by glutamate to RGCs. Furthermore, the PI3K inhibitor LY294002 was used to intervene in the RGC autophagy model and was found to suppress the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and enhance RGC autophagy. However, TQMM formula serum could generate an opposite effect and upregulate the expressions of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway genes and proteins. In conclusion, the TQMM formula can prevent glutamate-induced autophagy in RGCs, possibly by activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and reducing the expression of autophagy-related biomarkers LC3 and Belicin-1 to attenuate autophagy and maintain RGC viability.

ABSTRACT

Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is a progressive optic neuropathy and its damage to vision is irreversible. Therefore, early diagnosis assisted by biomarkers is essential. Although there were multiple researches on the identification of POAG biomarkers, few studies systematically revealed the transcriptome dysregulation mechanism of POAG from the perspective of pre- and post-transcription of genes. Here, we have collected multiple sets of POAG's aqueous humor (AH) tissue transcription profiles covering long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), mRNA and mircoRNA (miRNA). Through differential expression analysis, we identified thousands of significant differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the AH tissue of POAG and non-glaucoma. Further, the DEGs were used to construct a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulatory network and 1,653 qualified lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory units were identified. Two ceRNA regulatory subnets were identified based on the random walk algorithm and revealed to be involved in the regulation of multiple complex diseases. At the pre-transcriptional regulation level, a transcriptional regulatory network was constructed and three transcription factors (FOS, ATF4, and RELB) were identified to regulate the expression of multiple genes and participate in the regulation of T cells. Moreover, we revealed the immune desert status of AH tissue for POAG patients based on immune infiltration analysis and identified a specific AL590666.2-hsa-miR-339-5p-UROD axis can be used as a biomarker of POAG. Taken together, the identification of regulatory mechanisms and biomarkers will contribute to the individualized diagnosis and treatment for POAG.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: In this study, miRNAs and their critical target genes related to the prognosis of pancreatic cancer were screened based on bioinformatics analysis to provide targets for the prognosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer. METHODS: R software was used to screen differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs) and genes (DEGs) downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases, respectively. A miRNA Cox proportional hazards regression model was constructed based on the miRNAs, and a miRNA prognostic model was generated. The target genes of the prognostic miRNAs were predicted using TargetScan and miRDB and then intersected with the DEGs to obtain common genes. The functions of the common genes were subjected to Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Gene Ontology (GO) analyses. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of the common genes was constructed with the STRING database and visualized with Cytoscape software. Key genes were also screened with the MCODE and cytoHubba plug-ins of Cytoscape. Finally, a prognostic model formed by the key gene was also established to help evaluate the reliability of this screening process. RESULTS: A prognostic model containing four downregulated miRNAs (hsa-mir-424, hsa-mir-3613, hsa-mir-4772 and hsa-mir-126) related to the prognosis of pancreatic cancer was constructed. A total of 118 common genes were enriched in two KEGG pathways and 33 GO functional annotations, including extracellular matrix (ECM)-receptor interaction and cell adhesion. Nine key genes related to pancreatic cancer were also obtained: MMP14, ITGA2, THBS2, COL1A1, COL3A1, COL11A1, COL6A3, COL12A1 and COL5A2. The prognostic model formed by nine key genes also possessed good prognostic ability. CONCLUSIONS: The prognostic model consisting of four miRNAs can reliably predict the prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer. In addition, the screened nine key genes, which can also form a reliable prognostic model, are significantly related to the occurrence and development of pancreatic cancer. Among them, one novel miRNA (hsa-mir-4772) and two novel genes (COL12A1 and COL5A2) associated with pancreatic cancer have great potential to be used as prognostic factors and therapeutic targets for this tumor.

ABSTRACT

Professor SUN Shen-tian's academic thought and clinical experience of acupuncture for peripheral facial paralysis are summarized. According to the different stages of facial paralysis, professor SUN 's treatment plan has its own emphasis. In the acute stage, professor SUN emphasizes the importance of standardized western medicine treatment, and proposes early acupuncture treatment. The treatment mainly focuses on dispersing wind and cold, promoting blood circulation and dredging collaterals. In the recovery stage, professor SUN emphasizes the method of "pulling the sticking needle", and applies repeated transcranial acupuncture according to the functional orientation of cerebral cortex. In the sequelae stage, professor SUN emphasizes the value of regulating the mind. In the course of treatment, professor SUN highly values the use of flexible acupoint selection, repeated transcranial acupuncture, "pulling the sticking needle" method, acupoint pressing and giant-needle method, combined with electroacupuncture and targeted injection. In addition, based on the clinical experience, professor SUN summarizes the common methods to estimate the prognosis of peripheral facial paralysis.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical effect between Tiaoshen acupuncture method combined with electroacupuncture (EA) and EA alone in the treatment of diarrhea-type irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). METHODS: A total of 76 patients of IBS-D were randomly divided into a Tiaoshen group (38 cases, 2 cases dropped off ) and an EA group (38 cases, 1 case dropped off). The EA group was treated with acupuncture at Guanyuan (CV 4), Zhongwan (CV 12), Tianshu (ST 25), Dachangshu (BL 25), Zusanli (ST 36), Shangjuxu (ST 37), etc. for 30 min. The bilateral Tianshu (ST 25) and the same side of Zusanli (ST 36) and Shangjuxu (ST 37) were connected EA (discontinuous wave, 1 Hz in frequency, 4-6 mA in current intensity). In the Tiaoshen group, the Tiaoshen acupuncture method was added on the basis of the EA group. The acupoints were Baihui (GV 20), Shenting (GV 24) and Benshen (GB 13), and the needles were retained for 30 min. Both groups were treated once a day, 6 days as a course of treatment, with an interval of 1 d between treatment courses, and a total of 4 courses of treatment were required. The IBS symptom severity scale (IBS-SSS) score, IBS quality of life scale (IBS-QOL) score and Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) score were observed before and after treatment in the two groups, and the clinical effect was evaluated. RESULTS: After treatment, the total effective rate in the Tiaoshen group was 94.4% (34/36), which was higher than 78.4% (29/37) in the EA group (P<0.05). The IBS-SSS and HAMD scores of both groups after treatment were lower than before treatment (P<0.05), while IBS-QOL scores were higher than before treatment (P<0.05). Moreover, the changes of above scores in the Tiaoshen group were higher than those in the EA group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The Tiaoshen acupuncture method combined with EA have a significant effect in treatment of IBS-D, can significantly reduce the symptoms of abdominal pain, abdominal distension and diarrhea in patients, effectively improve patients' quality of life and depression condition, the effect is better than the simple EA treatment.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Mucinous cystic neoplasm of the liver (MCN-L) is a cyst-forming epithelial neoplasm. The most distinguishing feature is the ovarian-type subepithelial stroma on pathological examination. CASE SUMMARY: An abdominal ultrasound incidentally revealed a liver tumor in a 32-year-old woman. Physical and laboratory examination results did not reveal any abnormalities. Enhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) revealed a cystic space measuring 7.2 cm × 5.4 cm in the liver. Subsequent CT showed an increase in tumor size. Thus, we performed surgical resection of the tumor and gallbladder. Postoperative histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of MCN-L. At the 6-mo of follow-up, no recurrence was observed on ultrasound or CT. CONCLUSION: Since preoperative diagnosis of MCN-L is difficult, active surgery is recommended and helpful for the diagnosis and treatment of MCN-L.
