ABSTRACT

Background: Labeled antibodies are excellent imaging agents in oncology to non-invasively visualize cancer-related antigens expression levels. However, tumor tracer uptake (TTU) of specific antibodies in-vivo may be inferior to non-specific IgG in some cases. Objectives: To explore factors affecting labeled antibody visualization by PD-L1 specific and non-specific imaging of nude mouse tumors. Methods: TTU was observed in RKO model on Cerenkov luminescence (CL) and near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging of radionuclide 131I or NIRF dyes labeled Atezolizumab and IgG. A mixture of NIRF dyes labeled Atezolizumab and 131I-labeled IgG was injected, and TTU was observed in the RKO and HCT8 model by NIRF/CL dual-modality in-situ imaging. TTU were observed by 131I-labeled Atezolizumab and IgG in-vitro distribution. Results: Labeled IgG concentrated more in tumors than Atezolizumab. NIRF/CL imaging in 24 to 168 h showed that TTU gradually decreased over time, which decreased more slowly on CL imaging compared to NIRF imaging. The distribution data in-vitro showed that TTU of 131I-labeled IgG was higher than that of 131I-labeled Atezolizumab at any time point. Conclusion: Non-specific IgG may not be suitable as a control for Atezolizumab in comparing tumor PD-L1 expression in nude mice via labeled antibody optical imaging under certain circumstances.

ABSTRACT

The SwissTargetPrediction was employed to predict the potential drug targets of the active component of Si-Miao-Yong-An decoction (SMYAD). The therapeutic targets for HF were searched in the Genecard database, and Cytoscape3.9.1 software was used to construct the "drug-component-target-disease network" diagram. In addition, the String platform was used to construct Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network, and the DAVID database was used for GO and KEGG analysis. AutoDockTools-1.5.6 software was used for molecular docking verification. Network pharmacology studies have shown that AKT 1, ALB, and CASP 3 are the key targets of action of SMYAD against heart failure. The active compounds are quercetin and kaempferol.

ABSTRACT

Machine learning algorithms are frequently used to clinical risk prediction. Our study was designed to predict risk factors of prolonged intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) use in patients with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) through developing machine learning-based models. Patients who received perioperative IABP therapy were divided into two groups based on their length of IABP implantation longer than the 75th percentile for the whole cohort: normal (≤ 10 days) and prolonged (> 10 days) groups. Seven machine learning-based models were created and evaluated, and then the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) method was employed to further illustrate the influence of the features on model. In our study, a total of 143 patients were included, comprising 56 cases (38.16%) in the prolonged group. The logistic regression model was considered the final prediction model according to its most excellent performance. Furthermore, feature important analysis identified left ventricular end-systolic or diastolic diameter, preoperative IABP use, diabetes, and cardiac troponin T as the top five risk variables for prolonged IABP implantation in patients. The SHAP analysis further explained the features attributed to the model. Machine learning models were successfully developed and used to predict risk variables of prolonged IABP implantation in patients with CABG. This may help early identification for prolonged IABP use and initiate clinical interventions.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Mounting evidence supports a significant correlation between the stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) and both short- and long-term prognoses in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Nevertheless, research examining the association between the SHR and the complexity of coronary artery disease (CAD) is scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the association between the SHR and CAD complexity, as assessed by the SYNTAX score, in patients with ACS. METHODS: A total of 4715 patients diagnosed with ACS were enrolled and divided into five groups according to the quintiles of the SHR. CAD complexity was assessed using the SYNTAX score and categorized as low (≤ 22) or mid/high (> 22) levels. Logistic regression was utilized to examine the association between the SHR and CAD severity (mid-/high SYNTAX score). Restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves were generated to assess the association between the SHR and CAD severity. Subgroup analyses were conducted to stratify outcomes based on age, sex, diabetes mellitus (DM) status, and clinical presentation. RESULTS: Among the total ACS population, 503 (10.7%) patients had mid/high SYNTAX scores. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the SHR was an independent risk factor for mid/high SYNTAX scores in a U-shaped pattern. After adjusting for confounding variables, Q1 and Q5 demonstrated elevated odds ratios (ORs) relative to the reference category Q3, with ORs of 1.61 (95% CI: 1.19 ∼ 2.19) and 1.68 (95% CI: 1.24 ∼ 2.29), respectively. Moreover, the ORs for Q2 (1.02, 95% CI: 0.73 ∼ 1.42) and Q4 (1.18, 95% CI: 0.85 ∼ 1.63) resembled that of Q3. Compared with the merged Q2-4 group, the ORs were 1.52 (95% CI: 1.21 ∼ 1.92) for Q1 group and 1.58 (95% CI: 1.25 ∼ 2) for the Q5 group. Subgroup analysis revealed that the U-shaped association between the SHR and mid/high SYNTAX score was attenuated in DM patients (P for interaction = 0.045). CONCLUSIONS: There were U-shaped associations between the SHR and CAD complexity in ACS patients, with an SHR ranging from 0.68 to 0.875 indicating a relatively lower OR for mid/high SYNTAX scores. Further studies are necessary to both evaluate the predictive value of the SHR in ACS patients and explore the underlying mechanisms of the observed U-shaped associations.

ABSTRACT

Bioaugmentation techniques still show drawbacks in the cleanup of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) from petroleum-contaminated site soil. Herein, this study explored high-performance immobilized bacterial pellets (IBPs) embed Microbacterium oxydans with a high degrading capacity, and developed a controlled-release oxygen composite (CROC) that allows the efficient, long-term release of oxygen. Tests with four different microcosm incubations were performed to assess the effects of IBPs and CROC on the removal of TPHs from petroleum-contaminated site soil. The results showed that the addition of IBPs and/or CROC could significantly promote the remediation of TPHs in soil. A CROC only played a significant role in the degradation of TPHs in deep soil. The combined application of IBPs and CROC had the best effect on the remediation of deep soil, and the removal rate of TPHs reached 70%, which was much higher than that of nature attenuation (13.2%) and IBPs (43.0%) or CROC (31.9%) alone. In particular, the CROC could better promote the degradation of heavy distillate hydrocarbons (HFAs) in deep soil, and the degradation rates of HFAs increased from 6.6% to 33.2%-21.0% and 67.9%, respectively. In addition, the IBPs and CROC significantly enhanced the activity of dehydrogenase, catalase, and lipase in soil. Results of the enzyme activity were the same as that of TPH degradation. The combined application of IBPs and CROC not only increased the microbial abundance and diversity of soil, but also significantly enhanced the enrichment of potential TPH-biodegrading bacteria. M. oxydans was dominant in AP (bioaugmentation with addition of IBPs) and APO (bioaugmentation with the addition of IBPs and CROC) microcosms that added IBPs. Overall, the IBPs and CROC developed in this study provide a novel option for the combination of bioaugmentation and biostimulation for remediating organic pollutants in soil.

ABSTRACT

Whole-genome genotyping (WGG) stands as a pivotal element in genomic-assisted plant breeding. Nevertheless, sequencing-based approaches for WGG continue to be costly, primarily attributed to the high expenses associated with library preparation and the laborious protocol. During the prior development of Foreground and Background Integrated genotyping by sequencing (FBI-seq), we discovered that any sequence specific primer (SP) inherently possessed the capability to amplify a massive array of stable and reproducible non-specific PCR product across the genome. Here we further improved the FBI-seq by replacing the adapter ligated by Tn5 transposase with arbitrary degenerate (AD) primer. The protocol for the enhanced FBI-seq unexpectedly mirrors a simplified Thermal Asymmetric Interlaced (TAIL)-PCR, a technique widely employed for isolating flanking sequences. However, the improved TAIL-PCR maximizes the PTMA capabilities of both SP and AD primers. Additionally, leveraging next-generation sequencing enhances its ability to assay tens of thousands of genome-wide loci for any species. This cost-effective, user-friendly, and powerful WGG tool, TAIL-PCR by sequencing (TAIL-peq), holds great potential for widespread application in breeding programs, thereby facilitating genome-assisted crop improvement.

BACKGROUND: Okadaic acid (OA), as a diarrhetic shellfish poisoning, can increase the risk of acute carcinogenic or teratogenic effects for the ingestion of OA contaminated shellfish. At present, much effort has been made to graft immunoassay onto a paper substrate to make paper-based sensors for rapid and simple detection of shellfish toxin. However, the complicated washing steps and low protein fixation efficiency on the paper substrate need to be further addressed. RESULTS: A novel paper-tip immunosensor for detecting OA was developed combined with smartphone and naked eye readout. The trapezoid paper tip was consisted of quantitative and qualitative detection zones. To improve the OA antigen immobilization efficiency on the paper substrate, graphene oxide (GO)-assisted protein immobilization method was introduced. Meanwhile, Au nanoparticles composite probe combined with the lateral flow washing was developed to simplify the washing step. The OA antigen-immobilized zone, as the detection zone Ⅰ, was used for quantitative assay by smartphone imaging. The paper-tip front, as the detection zone Ⅱ, which could qualitatively differentiate OA pollution level within 45 min using the naked eye. The competitive immunoassay on the paper tip exhibited a wide linear range for detecting OA (0.02-50 ng∙mL-1) with low detection limit of 0.02 ng∙mL-1. The recovery of OA in spiked shellfish samples was in the range of 90.3 %-113.%. SIGNIFICANCE: These results demonstrated that the proposed paper-tip immunosensor could provide a simple, low-cost and high-sensitivity test for OA detection without the need for additional large-scale equipment or expertise. We anticipate that this paper-tip immunosensor will be a flexible and versatile tool for on-site detecting the pollution of marine products.

ABSTRACT

Genetically modified intestinal organoids are being explored as potential surrogates of immortalized cell lines and gene-engineered animals. However, genetic manipulation of intestinal organoids is time-consuming, and the efficiency is far beyond satisfactory. To ensure the yield of the genetically modified organoids, large quantity of starting materials is required, and the procedure usually takes more than 10 days. Two major obstacles that restrict the genetic delivery efficiency are the three-dimensional culture condition and that the genetic delivery is carried out in cell suspensions. In the present study, we introduce a novel highly efficient strategy for building genetically modified intestinal organoids in which genetic delivery was performed in freshly established monolayer primary intestinal epithelial cells under two-dimensional conditions and subsequentially transformed into three-dimensional organoids. The total procedure can be finished within 10 hr while displaying much higher efficiency than the traditional methods. Furthermore, this strategy allowed for the selection of transgenic cells in monolayer conditions before establishing high-purity genetically modified intestinal organoids.

ABSTRACT

Tumor cells are characterized by a delicate balance between elevated oxidative stress and enhanced antioxidant capacity. This intricate equilibrium, maintained within a threshold known as redox homeostasis, offers a unique perspective for cancer treatment by modulating reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels beyond cellular tolerability, thereby disrupting this balance. However, currently used chemotherapy drugs require larger doses to increase ROS levels beyond the redox homeostasis threshold, which may cause serious side effects. How to disrupt redox homeostasis in cancer cells more effectively remains a challenge. In this study, we found that sodium selenite and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a polyunsaturated fatty acid extracted from marine fish, synergistically induced cytotoxic effects in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. Physiological doses of DHA simultaneously upregulated oxidation and antioxidant levels within the threshold range without affecting cell viability. However, it rendered the cells more susceptible to reaching the upper limit of the threshold of redox homeostasis, facilitating the elevation of ROS levels beyond the threshold by combining with low doses of sodium selenite, thereby disrupting redox homeostasis and inducing MAPK-mediated paraptosis. This study highlights the synergistic anticancer effects of sodium selenite and DHA, which induce paraptosis by disrupting redox homeostasis in tumor cells. These findings offer a novel strategy for more targeted and less toxic cancer therapies for colorectal cancer treatment.

ABSTRACT

The combination of endoscopic ultrasound with endoscopic treatment of type 1 gastric variceal hemorrhage may improve the robustness and generalizability of the findings in future studies. Moreover, the esophageal varices should also be included in the evaluation of treatment efficacy in subsequent studies to reach a more convincing conclusion.

ABSTRACT

Renal fibrosis is a prevalent pathological alteration that occurs throughout the progression of primary and secondary renal disorders towards end-stage renal disease. As a complex and irreversible pathophysiological phenomenon, it includes a sequence of intricate regulatory processes at the molecular and cellular levels. Exosomes are a distinct category of extracellular vesicles that play a crucial role in facilitating intercellular communication. Multiple pathways are regulated by exosomes produced by various cell types, including tubular epithelial cells and mesenchymal stem cells, in the context of renal fibrosis. Furthermore, research has shown that exosomes present in bodily fluids, including urine and blood, may be indicators of renal fibrosis. However, the regulatory mechanism of exosomes in renal fibrosis has not been fully elucidated. This article reviewed and analysed the various mechanisms by which exosomes regulate renal fibrosis, which may provide new ideas for further study of the pathophysiological process of renal fibrosis and targeted treatment of renal fibrosis with exosomes.

ABSTRACT

The efficacy of adoptive T cell therapy (ACT) for the treatment of solid tumors remains challenging. In addition to the poor infiltration of effector T (Teff) cells limited by the physical barrier surrounding the solid tumor, another major obstacle is the extensive infiltration of regulatory T (Treg) cells, a major immunosuppressive immune cell subset, in the tumor microenvironment. Here, this work develops a grooved microneedle patch for augmenting ACT, aiming to simultaneously overcome physical and immunosuppressive barriers. The microneedles are engineered through an ice-templated method to generate the grooved structure for sufficient T-cell loading. In addition, with the surface modification of chemokine CCL22, the MNs could not only directly deliver tumor-specific T cells into solid tumors through physical penetration, but also specifically divert Treg cells from the tumor microenvironment to the surface of the microneedles via a cytokine concentration gradient, leading to an increase in the ratio of Teff cells/Treg cells in a mouse melanoma model. Consequently, this local delivery strategy of both T cell receptor T cells and chimeric antigen receptor T cells via the CCL22-modified grooved microneedles as a local niche could significantly enhance the antitumor efficacy and reduce the on-target off-tumor toxicity of ACT.

Talking face generation aims at generating photorealistic video portraits of a target person driven by input audio. According to the nature of audio to lip motions mapping, the same speech content may have different appearances even for the same person at different occasions. Such one-to-many mapping problem brings ambiguity during training and thus causes inferior visual results. Although this one-to-many mapping could be alleviated in part by a two-stage framework (i.e., an audioto- expression model followed by a neural-rendering model), it is still insufficient since the prediction is produced without enough information (e.g., emotions, wrinkles, etc.). In this paper, we propose MemFace to complement the missing information with an implicit memory and an explicit memory that follow the sense of the two stages respectively. More specifically, the implicit memory is employed in the audio-to-expression model to capture high-level semantics in the audio-expression shared space, while the explicit memory is employed in the neural-rendering model to help synthesize pixel-level details. Our experimental results show that our proposed MemFace surpasses all the state-of-theart results across multiple scenarios consistently and significantly.

ABSTRACT

Developing water-soluble nanomaterials with high photoluminescence emission and high yield for biological analysis and imaging is urgently needed. Herein, water-soluble blue emitting silicon and nitrogen co-doped carbon dots (abbreviated as Si-CDs) of a high photoluminescence quantum yield of 80 % were effectively prepared with high yield rate (59.1 %) via one-step hydrothermal treatment of N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl]ethylenediamine (DAMO) and trans-aconitic acid. Furthermore, the Si-CDs demonstrate environmental robustness, photo-stability and biocompatibility. Given the importance of the potentially abnormal levels of acid phosphatase (ACP) in cancer diagnosis, developing a reliable and sensitive ACP measurement method is of significance for clinical research. The Si-CDs unexpectedly promote the catalytic oxidation of ACP on dopamine (DA) to polydopamine under acidic conditions through the produced reactive oxygen species (ROS). Correspondingly, a fluorescence response strategy using Si-CDs as the dual functions of probes and promoting enzyme activity of ACP on catalyzing DA was constructed to sensitively determine ACP. The quantitative analysis of ACP displayed a linear range of 0.1-60 U/L with a detection limit of 0.056 U/L. The accurate detection of ACP was successfully achieved in human serum through recovery tests. As a satisfactory fluorescent probe, Si-CDs were successfully applied to fluorescent imaging of A549 cells in cytoplasmic with long-term and safe staining. The Si-CDs have the dual properties of outstanding fluorescent probes and auxiliary oxidase activity, indicating their great potential in multifunctional applications.

Context: Care burden refers to the physical burden that caregivers bear during the process of caring for children with congenital heart disease (CHD), and discharge readiness mainly refers to the confidence of the main caregivers in taking care of patients. Empowerment education's influence on the discharge readiness and caregivers' burden is unknown for children with CHD. Objective: The study intended to explore the impact of empowerment education on the discharge readiness and care burden of caregivers of children with CHD. Design: The research team conducted a prospective cohort study. Setting: The study took place at Anhui Provincial Children's Hospital in Hefei City, China. Participants: Participants were 163 caregivers of children who underwent surgery for CHD at the hospital between January 2019 and August 2021. Interventions: The research team divided participants into two groups using convenience sampling: (1) a control group, with 82 participants who received routine nursing education and intervention, and (2) an intervention group, with 81 participants who received empowered nursing education. Outcome Measures: Postintervention, the research team evaluated the caregivers': (1) readiness for the child's discharge and (2) burden level. Results: Postintervention, the intervention group's: (1) total score for discharge readiness and scores on the personal status and adaptability dimensions were significantly higher than those of the control group (all P < .05), and (2) care burden level was significantly lower than that of the control group (P < .05). Conclusions: Empowerment education can help caregivers of children with congenital defects of the heart to build awareness of the need to participate in disease management, improve disease-related knowledge and skills, reduce their negative emotions, and improve their level of preparation for their children's discharge and reduce their level of care burden. The therapy is worth further investigation and popularization.

BACKGROUND: Urinary tract infections (UTI) is a prevalent condition in those with diabetes, and in severe cases, it may escalate to sepsis. Therefore, it is important to analyze the risk variables associated with sepsis in diabetes individuals with UTI. METHODS: This research was a retrospective cross-sectional analysis. From January 2011 to June 2022, a group of individuals with diabetes were identified as having UTI at a tertiary hospital situated in Southeastern China. Patient data, including information on urine culture, was collected retrospectively from a clinical record database. The participants were categorized into the sepsis and non-sepsis groups. The risk variables were derived using both uni-and multiple- variable regression analysis. RESULTS: The research included 1919 patients, of whom 1106 cases (57.63%) had positive urine cultures. In total, 445 blood culture samples were tested, identifying 186 positive cases (41.80%). The prevalence of bacteria in urine and blood samples was highest for Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, respectively. Moreover, 268 individuals (13.97%) exhibited sepsis. The regression analysis indicated a positive correlation between sepsis and albumin (ALB)<34.35 g/L, C-reactive protein (CRP)>55.84 mg/L and white blood cell count (WBC) >8.485 X 109/L in diabetic cases with UTIs. By integrating the three aforementioned parameters, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.809. CONCLUSIONS: The early detection of sepsis in diabetic individuals with UTI may be achieved using a comprehensive analysis of CRP, WBC, and ALB test findings.

ABSTRACT

A three-component reaction for the synthesis of dihydropyrrolo[3,4-e][1,3]thiazines has been developed. Elemental sulfur, maleimides, and 1,3,5-triazinanes are assembled together through sulfuration/nucleophilic attack in N-methylpyrrolidin-2-one (NMP) under mild conditions. A small amount of NaHCO3 is important for the activation of the reaction. In this method, sulfur plays a dual role in thiazine ring formation, while triazinanes are utilized as three-atom synthons in the annulation reaction.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To examine the association between positive mental well-being and professional identity in nursing students. The mediating effects of resilience and nurse-patient relationship were explored. BACKGROUND: Professional identity of nursing students can influence their pursuit of a nursing career. Negative mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, and high stress, are known risk factors for professional identity. Few studies have examined the association of professional identity with positive mental well-being and underlying mechanisms. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study of Chinese nursing students on clinical placement. The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale, Professional Identity Scale, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Nurse-Patient Relationship Scale, and Patient Health Questionnaire were used, and demographic and study-related characteristics were measured. Multivariable linear regression and mediation analyses analyzed the associations. We followed the STROBE reporting guidelines. RESULTS: Of 208 participants, the total scores of positive mental well-being and professional identity were at a moderate level. Positive mental well-being was associated with professional identity after adjusting for confounders including the main reason for choosing nursing and negative mental health. Resilience was a full mediator of the association between positive mental well-being and professional identity, whereas nurse-patient relationship was a partial mediator. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Positive mental well-being was associated with professional identity in Chinese nursing students on clinical placement, mediated through resilience and nurse-patient relationship. Positive mental well-being can be a facilitator for the professional identity of nursing students, and resilience and nurse-patient relationship could be potential mechanisms for nurse professional development. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND/OR HEALTH POLICY: Nurse researchers, educators, and policymakers are informed to increase the awareness of positive mental well-being and develop interventions targeting resilience and nurse-patient relationship for building a stable and satisfied nursing team.

ABSTRACT

Algal blooms in lakes have been a challenging environmental issue globally under the dual influence of human activity and climate change. Considerable progress has been made in the study of phytoplankton dynamics in lakes; The long-term in situ evolution of dominant bloom-forming cyanobacteria in meso-eutrophic plateau lakes, however, lacks systematic research. Here, the monthly parameters from 12 sampling sites during the period of 1997-2022 were utilized to investigate the underlying mechanisms driving the superiority of bloom-forming cyanobacteria in Erhai, a representative meso-eutrophic plateau lake. The findings indicate that global warming will intensify the risk of cynaobacteria blooms, prolong Microcystis blooms in autumn to winter or even into the following year, and increase the superiority of filamentous Planktothrix and Cylindrospermum in summer and autumn. High RUETN (1.52 Biomass/TN, 0.95-3.04 times higher than other species) under N limitation (TN < 0.5 mg/L, TN/TP < 22.6) in the meso-eutrophic Lake Erhai facilitates the superiority of Dolichospermum. High RUETP (43.8 Biomass/TP, 2.1-10.2 times higher than others) in TP of 0.03-0.05 mg/L promotes the superiority of Planktothrix and Cylindrospermum. We provided a novel insight into the formation of Planktothrix and Cylindrospermum superiority in meso-eutrophic plateau lake with low TP (0.005-0.07 mg/L), which is mainly influenced by warming, high RUETP and their vertical migration characteristics. Therefore, we posit that although the obvious improvement of lake water quality is not directly proportional to the control efficacy of cyanobacterial blooms, the evolutionary shift in cyanobacteria population structure from Microcystis, which thrives under high nitrogen and phosphorus conditions, to filamentous cyanobacteria adapted to low nitrogen and phosphorus levels may serve as a significant indicator of water quality amelioration. Therefore, we suggest that the risk of filamentous cyanobacteria blooms in the meso-eutrophic plateau lake should be given attention, particularly in light of improving water quality and global warming, to ensure drinking water safety.

ABSTRACT

Human adenovirus (HAdV) is a significant viral pathogen causing severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs) in children. To improve the understanding of type distribution and viral genetic characterization of HAdV in severe cases, this study enrolled 3404 pediatric SARI cases from eight provinces of China spanning 2017-2021, resulting in the acquisition of 112 HAdV strains. HAdV-type identification, based on three target genes (penton base, hexon, and fiber), confirmed the diversity of HAdV types in SARI cases. Twelve types were identified, including species B (HAdV-3, 7, 55), species C (HAdV-1, 2, 6, 89, 108, P89H5F5, Px1/Ps3H1F1, Px1/Ps3H5F5), and E (HAdV-4). Among these, HAdV-3 exhibited the highest detection rate (44.6%), followed by HAdV-7 (19.6%), HAdV-1 (12.5%), and HAdV-108 (9.8%). All HAdV-3, 7, 55, 4 in this study belonged to dominant lineages circulating worldwide, and the sequences of the three genes demonstrated significant conservation and stability. Concerning HAdV-C, excluding the novel type Px1/Ps3H1F1 found in this study, the other seven types were detected both in China and abroad, with HAdV-1 and HAdV-108 considered the two main types of HAdV-C prevalent in China. Two recombinant strains, including P89H5F5 and Px1/Ps3H1F1, could cause SARI as a single pathogen, warranting close monitoring and investigation for potential public health implications. In conclusion, 5 years of SARI surveillance in China provided crucial insights into HAdV-associated respiratory infections among hospitalized pediatric patients.
