ABSTRACT

Selecting a set of initial users from a social network in order to maximize the envisaged number of influenced users is known as influence maximization (IM). Researchers have achieved significant advancements in the theoretical design and performance gain of several classical approaches, but these advances are almost reaching their pinnacle. Learning-based IM approaches have emerged recently with a higher generalization to unknown graphs than conventional methods. The development of learning-based IM methods is still constrained by a number of fundamental hardships, including (1) solving the objective function efficiently, (2) struggling to characterize the diverse underlying diffusion patterns, and (3) adapting the solution to different node-centrality-constrained IM variants. To address the aforementioned issues, we design a novel framework DeepIM for generatively characterizing the latent representation of seed sets, as well as learning the diversified information diffusion pattern in a data-driven and end-to-end way. Subsequently, we design a novel objective function to infer optimal seed sets under flexible node-centrality-based budget constraints. Extensive analyses are conducted over both synthetic and real-world datasets to demonstrate the overall performance of DeepIM.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This study delves into the understudied yet potentially crucial role of paternal zinc deficiency in programming offspring metabolic outcomes. By examining paternal zinc deficiency, we aim to shed light on a previously unexplored avenue with the potential to significantly impact future generations. We investigated the intergenerational effects of paternal zinc deficiency on metabolic parameters in Drosophila melanogaster. METHODS: Dietary zinc deficiency was induced by supplementing the diet of Drosophila F0 male flies with TPEN (N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine) from egg stage. The F0 male flies after eclosion were mated with age-matched virgin female flies from the control group, resulting in the F1 offspring generation. The F1 generation were then cultured on a standard diet for subsequent metabolic analyses, including assessments of body weight, locomotion, and levels of glucose, trehalose, glycogen, and triglycerides as well as the expression of related genes. RESULTS: We observed an increase (p<0.05) in body weight in male parent flies and female offspring. Negative geotaxis performance was also impaired in the female offspring. Paternal zinc deficiency exerted distinct effects on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, as evidenced by a significant (p<0.05) increase in trehalose and triglyceride levels in both parent and offspring. Additionally, zinc deficiency led to alterations in the expression of key metabolic genes, including significant (p<0.05) increase in DILP2 mRNA levels, highlighting potential links to insulin signaling. Also, there were reduced mRNA levels of SOD1 and CAT in both parental and offspring generations. Parental zinc deficiency also increased the expression of Eiger and UPD2 mRNA in the offspring, suggesting potential perturbations in the immune response system. CONCLUSION: These findings underscore the link between zinc status and various physiological and molecular processes, revealing both immediate and intergenerational impacts on metabolic, antioxidant, and inflammatory pathways and providing valuable insights on the implications of paternal zinc deficiency in Drosophila melanogaster.

ABSTRACT

People are influenced by members of high-status groups and members of their ingroup. These principles of "status orientation" and "ingroup orientation" can imply opposing forces for people of lower status. Are lower-status individuals more influenced by members of higher-status outgroups or by members of their lower-status ingroup? Engaging status characteristics theory and self-categorization theory, we predict that status orientation is relatively stronger on questions about facts, which have an objectively correct answer, whereas ingroup orientation is stronger when it comes to 'opinion questions' that have no objectively correct answer. Results of an online survey experiment confirm that on factual questions, less-educated individuals are more strongly influenced by highly-educated outgroup individuals than by less-educated ingroup individuals. On opinion questions, we observe relatively weaker status orientation, with status orientation and ingroup orientation being about equally strong. These findings suggest that it is harder to reach societal consensus on opinion questions than on factual questions.

Introduction: Influenza vaccination is one of the most important strategies for preventing influenza. However, the influenza vaccination rate in China remains low. During the COVID-19 pandemic, people held different attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccine. In the post-pandemic era, do the varying attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccine affect the intention to receive influenza vaccination? Methods: Based on the influence of presumed influence (IPI) model and spillover effects, this study employed structural equation modeling for multi-group comparison to analyze questionnaires from 613 participants, using instruments such as the Perceived Media Influence on Others Scale (PMIO), the Susceptibility to Influenza Scale (SI), and the Attitude toward Influenza Vaccine Scale (AIV). Results: The key findings are as follows: (1) Information exposure to the influenza vaccine significantly influences perceived media influence on others. (2) Perceived media influence on others does not directly impact the intention to receive influenza vaccination but rather affects it through attitude toward the influenza vaccine. (3) Moreover, multi-group analyses revealed differences in the IPI model among audiences with different attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccine. These differences demonstrated that prior attitudes toward the COVID-19 vaccine can influence attitudes toward similar influenza vaccines, thus demonstrating the existence of spillover effects. Conclusion: Attitude toward the COVID-19 vaccine can influence the intention to receive the influenza vaccination. Those with a negative attitude toward the COVID-19 vaccine are significantly influenced by susceptibility to influenza. Perceived media influence affects the intention to receive the influenza vaccination among those with a positive attitude toward the COVID-19 vaccine.

ABSTRACT

A streamlined LC-MS/MS method utilizing protein precipitation and filtration extraction was developed to consolidate analyses for drug-facilitated crime (DFC), postmortem investigations, and driving under the influence of drugs (DUID) testing. Fifty-seven target drug and metabolite analytes eluted in under 6-minutes and compromised of GHB precursors (1), hallucinogens (3), muscle relaxants (3), anticonvulsants (7), antidepressants (20), antihistamines (5), antipsychotics (11), antihypertensives and alpha-adrenergics (3), analgesics and anesthetics (3), and miscellaneous (1) in blood (quantitatively) and urine (qualitatively). Limits of detection were set to meet the more challenging sensitivity requirements for DFC, and are therefore also suitable for postmortem investigations, and other forensic casework, including DUID. Comprehensive ASB/ANSI validation was performed, and applicability studies examined 72 proficiency test blood and urine samples, along with 9,206 unique blood and urines samples from 5,192 authentic forensic cases that resulted in 11,961 positive analytes in samples. By expanding the analytical reach across multiple drug classes through a unified approach and screening a wider number of drugs, the technique can identify substances that might have previously evaded detection, thereby enhancing laboratory efficiency by minimizing the need for multiple tests. When combined with a recently developed in-house method, this integrated testing strategy meets the testing requirements outlined in ASB/ANSI standards and recommendations for DFC, postmortem, and Tier 1 DUID analyses.

ABSTRACT

This article details the Russian government's efforts to influence Canadians' perceptions of the war in Ukraine. Specifically, we examined Russian information campaigns tailored to Canadian audiences on X (formerly known as Twitter) and the supportive ecosystems of accounts that amplify those campaigns. By 2023, this ecosystem included at least 200,000 X accounts that have shared content with millions of Canadians. We identified ninety accounts with an outsized influence. The vast majority of the influential Canadian accounts were far right or far left in orientation. These networks were among Canada's most prolific and influential political communities online. We determined this by comparing these networks' potential influence to the online community engaging with Canada's 338 members of Parliament on X and a sample of twenty influential X accounts in Canada. The sophistication and proliferation of Canada-tailored narratives suggest a highly organized and well-funded effort to target Canadian support for Ukraine.

Sewer pipe materials exhibit diverse inner-surface features, which can affect the attachment of biofilm and influence microbial metabolic processes. To investigate the role of the type of pipe material on the composition and metabolic capabilities of the adhering microorganisms, three sets of urban sewers (High-Density Polyethylene Pipe (HDPE), Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP), and Concrete Pipe (CP)) were constructed. Measurements of biofilm thickness and environmental factors revealed that the thickest biofilm in CP pipes reached 2000 µm, with ORP values as low as -325 mV, indicating a more suitable anaerobic microbial habitat. High-throughput sequencing showed similar relative abundances of genera related to carbon and sulfur metabolism in the DIP and CP pipes, whereas HDPE exhibited only half the relative abundance compared to that found in the other pipes. To explore the impact of pipe materials on the mechanisms of microbial response, a metagenomic approach was used to investigate the biological transformation of carbon and sulfur in wastewater. The annotations of the crucial enzyme-encoding genes related to methyl coenzyme M and sulfite reductase in DIP and CP were 50 and 110, respectively, whereas HDPE exhibited lower counts (25 and 70, respectively). This resulted in significantly lower carbon and sulfur metabolism capabilities in the HDPE biofilm than in the other two pipes. The stability of wastewater quality during the transmission process in HDPE pipes reduces the metabolic generation of toxic and harmful gases within the pipes, favoring the preservation of carbon sources for sewer systems. This study reveals the variations in carbon and sulfur metabolism in wastewater pipe systems influenced by pipe materials and provides insights for designing future sewers.

Introduction The pericardial fat pad, located anteriorly to the heart between the pericardium and myocardium, has garnered significant interest in cardiovascular research due to its potential role in the pathophysiology of various cardiac conditions. Despite its proximity to the myocardium, it is distinct from the epicardial fat depot found between the myocardium and the visceral layer of the pericardium. Studies have shown that excess pericardial fat is associated with an increased risk of heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases. Non-contrast computed tomography (CT) is a reliable, non-invasive method for assessing pericardial fat pad thickness, offering less radiation exposure compared to other imaging modalities. Establishing standardized measurements for pericardial fat pad thickness is essential, particularly for the South Indian population, which may exhibit unique genetic, dietary, and lifestyle influences on these measurements. Materials and methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 300 participants from South India, stratified into three age groups: 18-35, 36-50, and 51-70 years, with body weights ranging from 45 kg to 120 kg. Participants were recruited from outpatient departments and community outreach programs, ensuring equal representation from each age group. Non-contrast CT imaging was performed using a Siemens Somatom goTop 128 Slice CT scanner to measure pericardial fat pad thickness and correlate it with age, gender, body weight, and body mass index. Exclusion criteria included diagnosed cardiac or pericardial diseases, prior chest surgery or trauma, pregnancy, and contraindications to CT scans. Ethical approval was obtained, and informed consent was collected from all participants. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software, employing descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-tests, and Pearson's correlation. Results The study included 300 participants, with an equal gender distribution of 150 males and 150 females. Pericardial fat pad thickness increased with age, averaging 4.2 mm in the 18-35 age group, 5.1 mm in the 36-50 age group, and 6.4 mm in the 51-70 age group. Males exhibited a higher average thickness (5.6 mm) compared to females (5.0 mm). Body weight also showed a positive correlation with pericardial fat pad thickness, with mean values increasing from 4.5 mm in the 45-60 kg range to 6.7 mm in the 106-120 kg range. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences in pericardial fat pad thickness across age groups, genders, and weight categories, emphasizing the importance of these factors in assessing cardiovascular risk. Conclusion This study provides a benchmark for pericardial fat pad thickness in the Kancheepuram Population of South India, highlighting its correlation with age, gender, body weight, and body mass index. The findings underscore the significance of non-invasive CT imaging in evaluating cardiovascular risk factors. Further research should focus on longitudinal studies and advanced imaging techniques to enhance the diagnostic accuracy and clinical relevance of pericardial fat pad measurements. The established reference values can aid clinicians in identifying individuals at higher risk for cardiovascular diseases, facilitating early intervention and management.

Cerebral hemorrhage represents a severe neurological disorder with significant implications for patient health. Numerous factors play a crucial role in determining the prognosis of this condition. In recent years, research has highlighted the polymorphism of the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene as being closely associated with cerebrovascular diseases and the recovery of neurological functions. This study aims to explore the influence of APOE gene polymorphism on cerebral oxygen saturation, cerebral electrical activity, and the clinical prognosis of patients experiencing cerebral hemorrhage. The goal is to identify potential new biomarkers that could enhance the management and treatment of individuals who have suffered from this type of bleed in the brain.To investigate this relationship, the study analyzed the ε2, ε3, and ε4 alleles of the APOE gene through gene sequencing techniques. Measurements of cerebral oxygen saturation and electrical brain activity were conducted using specialized equipment including brain oxygen monitors and electroencephalography (EEG) devices. Additionally, detailed clinical data were gathered, encompassing neurological function assessments and the duration of recovery for each patient.A comparative analysis was performed to assess the cerebral oxygen saturation levels, EEG characteristics, and overall prognosis associated with the different APOE genotypes. The findings indicated that patients carrying the APOE ε4 allele exhibited significantly impaired cerebral oxygen metabolism and diminished electrical activity in the initial stages of intracerebral hemorrhage. This impairment potentially results in a worse prognostic outlook when compared to individuals who are non-carriers of the APOE ε4 allele. Furthermore, the relationship between the pulsatility index (PR) and regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rScO2) was found to be negatively correlated. Specifically, patients with intracerebral hemorrhage who exhibited elevated PR levels alongside reduced rScO2 demonstrated poorer clinical outcomes.

Transactive memory system (TMS) makes learning and transferring knowledge easy and efficient. This study has constructed a conceptual model of TMS to reveal the crucial factors influencing the formation of a TMS in online asynchronous learning to foster knowledge sharing and collaboration and enhance knowledge transfer effectiveness. The conceptual model of TMS is built upon theoretical foundations concerning the creation of TMS and the variables influencing them. The study has put forth a set of hypotheses to predict the expected effects of group factors, individual factors, task interdependence, the degree of intellectual silence, and knowledge management on the formation of TMS. In this study, a total of 229 questionnaire data were collected from undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students in Northeast China who had experience with an online asynchronous learning TMS. Structural equation modeling has been employed to identify the key indicators involved and their influence on the formation of TMS. The empirical study was carried out using statistical analysis of SPSS data, with the results indicating that each factor has varying impacts on knowledge management, ultimately affecting the formation of TMS. These findings provide a more nuanced understanding of how these factors shape online asynchronous learning environments.

The pursuit of enhanced scientific, refined, and precise ozone and air quality control continues to pose significant challenges. Using data visualization techniques and random forest (RF) algorithms, the temporal distribution of atmospheric pollutants and the interrelationship between O3 concentration and its influential factors were investigated with one-year monitoring data in Deqing county in 2021. The local atmospheric conditions predominantly belonged to NOx-sensitive and transition zone. Extremely high O3 concentration were primarily observed when temperatures (T) exceeded 30 °C, with relative humidity (RH) ranging between 30 and 60 %. NO2, RH and T were identified as the top 3 important factors, and O3 concentration have stronger linearly relationship to RH and T, while stronger nonlinearly relationship to NO2. By employing an optimized RF model, controlling consistent mild and high reaction atmospheric conditions, the O3 concentration response to the change of individual influencing factors was acquired. The O3 concentration increased and then decreased in response to the increasing NO2 concentration, displaying a characteristic inflection point at 10 µg m-3. More reactive radicals produced at higher VOCs concentration and continuing NOx cycle at lower NO2 concentration, resulting in the acceleration in the direction of producing more O3. Therefore, the significant different O3 response to variation of VOCs and NOx concentration between mild and high reaction atmospheric conditions, as well as the existing of oxidant elevation should be considered in local air quality control. This study demonstrates the efficacy of ML methods in simulating nonlinear response of O3, supports the understanding of local O3 formation and quick guidance for precise local O3 pollution control and the related strategies.

Previous research attests to the benefits of transformational leadership (as a unitary construct) for various employee outcomes. Less is known about how specific dimensions of transformational leadership relate to outcomes during crisis. In the present paper, we investigate how each dimension of transformational leadership, namely, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, inspirational motivation, and idealized influence relate to employees' psychological capital in a crisis, specifically the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study was conducted where employees from 301 small and medium sized enterprises in Kenya completed a survey containing the variables of interest. Quantitative data analysis using partial least squares structural equation modelling was utilized to test the study hypotheses using Smart PLS 4 software. Results showed that only two of the four transformational leadership dimensions had a positive and significant impact on employees' psychological capital: Intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration. In terms of the theorized hypotheses, fear of COVID-19 moderated the relationship between (a) idealized influence, (b) intellectual, and (c) individualized consideration, and employees' psychological capital. However, only intellectual stimulation reached a significant effect size. The present study reveals the varied relevance of transformation leadership dimensions to psychological capital in a crisis. A new condition (emotional assessment of a crisis) for assessing this relationship was proposed. We discuss theoretical and practical implications, strengths, limitations, and suggestions for future studies.

Introduction: Recently, a method was developed to predict the motor Functional Independence Measure (FIM) score at discharge in patients with stroke by stratifying the effects of factors such as age and cognitive function and multiplying those by the influence coefficients of these factors. However, an evaluation of the predictive performance of the method is required for clinical application. The present study aimed to evaluate the predictive performance of this prediction method. Methods: Patients with stroke discharged from a rehabilitation ward between April 2021 and September 2022 were included. Predicted values of the motor FIM score at discharge were calculated after data collection from the hospital's patient database. The concordance between predicted and actual values was evaluated using the interclass correlation coefficient; moreover, the residual values were calculated. Results: In total, 207 patients were included in the analysis. The median age was 79 (69-85) years, and 112 (54.1%) patients were male. The interclass correlation coefficient between predicted and actual values was 0.84 (95% confidence interval 0.75-0.89) for the motor FIM score at discharge. Meanwhile, the median residual value was 5.3 (-2.0-10.3) for the motor FIM score at discharge. Discussion: The prediction method was validated with good performance. However, the residual values indicated that some cases deviated from the prediction. In future studies, it will be necessary to improve the predictive performance of the method by clarifying the characteristics of cases that deviate from the prediction.

Cold climates have an adverse effect on the nitrogen-removal capacity of bioretention cells, especially during freeze-thaw cycles (FTCs). To explore the effects of FTCs on the nitrogen removal performance of bioretention cells, this research compared the effects of FTCs on the pore structure and microbial community composition of the filler, and analyzed the nitrogen removal performance of the bioretention cell before (RT), during (FTC) and after (RRT) FTCs. The results demonstrated that RRT filler had a much greater number of pores with equivalent diameter <500 µm than RT filler, and that RRT had a higher pore volume and pore density than RT. Microbial community analysis revealed that the diversity and richness of the microbial community in FTC were lower than in RT, and the relative abundance of Lacunisphaera, Pseudomonas, and Dokdonella decreased significantly. There was no significant difference in microbial community richness between RRT and RT, however RRT diversity was lower. RRT has a higher relative abundance of nitrifying bacteria (Subgroup_10, Bryobacter, etc.) than RT, but a lower relative abundance of denitrifying bacteria (Pseudomonas, Dokdonella, Arenimonas, etc.). The nitrogen removal efficiency of FTC was inhibited, resulting in a decrease of 13.0 ± 4.86%, 19.7 ± 9.17%, and 26.6 ± 1.74% in the removal rates of ammonia nitrogen(NH4+-N), nitrate nitrogen(NO3--N), and total nitrogen(TN) when compared to RT, respectively. RRT improved nitrification and increased NH4+-N removal rate by 10.3 ± 2.69% compared to RT. However, because of denitrification inhibition, the nitrogen removal performance of RRT was not able to reach RT levels, and its NO3--N and TN removal rates decreased by 100 ± 4.70% and 58.3 ± 3.71%, respectively. This study has demonstrated that FTCs can permanently harm the bioretention cell's filler structure and microbial community, resulting in a significant decrease in the nitrogen removal performance of the bioretention cell designed according to warm climate conditions after experiencing FTCs.

Aiming for clarifying the potential distribution characteristics of canopy rainfall partitioning of the loess area, we explored the process of rainfall partitioning across eight typical forest stands (Pinus tabuliformis forest, Robinia pseudoacacia forest, Platycladus orientalis forest, mixed forest of Robinia pseudoacacia-Pinus tabuliformis, mixed forest of Platycladus orientalis-Robinia pseudoacacia, Quercus wutaishanica forest, Populus davidiana forest, mixed forest of Quercus wutaishanica-Populus davidiana), and used boosted regression trees (BRT) to quantify the relative influences of stand structures and meteorological environment factors. We established multiple regression relationships according to the most influential factors extracted by BRT, and applied to the dataset of mining to verify the performance of the BRT-derived predictive model. The results showed that the percentages of throughfall (TF), stemflow (SF), and canopy interception (Ic) in total precipitation were 24.5%-95.1%, 0-13.6%, and 0.7%-55.7% among eight typical forest stands, respectively. For the individual rainfall threshold of TF, coniferous forest (3.06±1.21 mm) was significantly higher than broad-leaved forest (1.97±0.52 mm), but there was no significant difference between coniferous forest and broad-leaved mixed forest (3.01±0.98 mm). There was no significant difference in the individual rainfall threshold of SF among different composition stands. BRT analysis showed that stand structure factors accounted for a relatively small proportion for TF and SF, respectively. By contrast, stand structure factors dominated the Ic. Rainfall was the most important factor in determining TF and SF. Tree height was the most important factor in determining Ic, followed by rainfall, canopy area, diameter at breast height, and stand density. Compared with the general linear function and the power function, the prediction effect of BRT prediction model constructed here on TF and SF had been further improved, and the prediction of canopy interception still needed to explore. In conclusion, the BRT model could better quantitatively evaluate the effects of stand structure and meteorological environmental factors on rainfall partitioning components, and the performance of the BRT predictive model could satisfy and lay the foundation for the optimization strategy for stand configuration.

Background: The number of medical research publications by Chinese clinical investigators has risen substantially, contributing to 14.63% of the global total in 2019; however, their tangible impact on clinical decision-making remains limited. Various evaluation methods have been developed to measure hospital research competence in China, such as Fudan University's China hospital ranking and Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) ranking, which predominantly focuses on factors such as academic reputation, volume of publications and patents, and research resources. However, composite indices may not fully capture the actual clinical value generated by medical research. To address this gap, we introduced the "Clinical Influence and Timeliness Evaluation (CITE)" metric to assess both the clinical importance of a given medical research study and the clinical influence of the hospital where it originated. The methodology used relies on the premise that influential medical research would be referenced in clinical guidelines, which serve as critical resources for clinicians. Methods: The CITE metric was applied for 78,636 medical studies concerning chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) published between 2000 and 2020 and referenced in both Chinese and international clinical guidelines for COPD. Specific indexes and formulas were derived to quantify the clinical weight of a medical research study (W) and its timeliness (T), enabling a dynamic assessment of the clinical value of each study and the overall contribution of a particular hospital. Results: In this analysis, we incorporated 499 hospitals in China and quantitatively identified their dynamic clinical influence in COPD from 2000 to 2020. Our findings offer objective and targeted evaluation metrics by focusing on clinical relevance and recognizing the collaborative nature of medical research. Conclusion: The CITE metric provides an innovative method to gauge the true impact of medical research in China, with potential applications across different medical specialties. CITE can serve as a useful tool for understanding the relationship between research input and practical clinical outcomes, ultimately promoting more clinically relevant research endeavors.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a widespread malignancy with a complex and not entirely elucidated pathogenesis. This study aims to explore the role of Bifidobacterium in the urea cycle (UC) and its influence on the progression of CRC, a topic not extensively studied previously. EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH: Utilizing both bioinformatics and experimental methodologies, this research involved analyzing bacterial abundance in CRC patients in comparison to healthy individuals. The study particularly focused on the abundance of BA. Additionally, transcriptomic data analysis and cellular experiments were conducted to investigate the impact of Bifidobacterium on ammonia metabolism and mitochondrial function, specifically examining its regulation of the key UC gene, ALB. KEY RESULTS: The analysis revealed a significant decrease in Bifidobacterium abundance in CRC patients. Furthermore, Bifidobacterium was found to suppress ammonia metabolism and induce mitochondrial dysfunction through the regulation of the ALB gene, which is essential in the context of UC. These impacts contributed to the suppression of CRC cell proliferation, a finding corroborated by animal experimental results. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: This study elucidates the molecular mechanism by which Bifidobacterium impacts CRC progression, highlighting its role in regulating key metabolic pathways. These findings provide potential targets for novel therapeutic strategies in CRC treatment, emphasizing the importance of microbiota in cancer progression.

ABSTRACT

Background: This study aims to explore the relationship and influencing pathways between mental health indicators and athlete burnout among Chinese competitive athletes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 501 elite Chinese athletes from several national and provincial sports teams. Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) was used to measure anxiety, Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ- 9) was used to measure depression, Athlete Psychological Strain Questionnaire (APSQ) was used to measure perceived stress, and Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ) was used to measure burnout. The results were derived using reliability testing, descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, and structural equation modeling. Results: The following results were obtained: (a) the clinical detection rates of anxiety and depression in this sample were within normal levels, but the detection rate of perceived stress (78.64%) was relatively high; (b) all three mental health indicators were significantly correlated with athlete burnout; (c) in our model, there was a direct path with APSQ directly contributing to 69.95% of the variance in athlete burnout, and two indirect paths with APSQ exerting an indirect effect through depression or/and anxiety accounting for 30.05% of the variance. Conclusion: The findings revealed the psychological characteristics of Chinese competitive athletes and the direct and indirect effects of the APSQ on burnout. Future research should actively promote the international development and application of burnout assessment tools, conduct more comprehensive studies on athlete mental health monitoring, and intensify efforts in athlete education, treatment, and support services, as well as strategies for athlete's coping stress.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the influence of the cesarean section scars on the mean pulsatility index (PI) of the uterine artery Doppler between 20 and 34 weeks of gestation. A secondary objective was to assess the association between previous cesarean section and adverse maternal/perinatal outcomes. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted with pregnant women who had their deliveries between March 2014 and February 2023. PI of the uterine arteries Doppler was performed transvaginally between 20-24 weeks and transabdominally between 28-34 weeks. The following variables were considered adverse perinatal outcomes: birth weight < 10th percentile for gestational age, preeclampsia, premature birth, placental abruption, perinatal death, postpartum hemorrhage, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission. Results: A total of 479 pregnant women were included in the final statistical analysis, being that 70.6% (338/479) had no (Group I) and 29.4% (141/479) had at least one previous cesarean section (Group II). Pregnant women with a previous cesarean had higher median of mean PI (1.06 vs. 0.97, p = 0.044) and median MoM of mean PI uterine arteries Doppler (1.06 vs. 0.98, p = 0.037) than pregnant women without previous cesarean section at ultrasound 20-24 weeks. Pregnant women with a previous cesarean section had higher median of mean PI (0.77 vs. 0.70, p < 0.001) and mean MoM PI uterine arteries Doppler (1.08 vs. 0.99, p < 0.001) than pregnant women without previous cesarean section at ultrasound 28-34 weeks. Pregnant women with ≥ 2 previous cesarean sections had a higher median of mean PI uterine arteries Doppler than those with no previous cesarean sections (1.19 vs. 0.97, p = 0.036). Group II had a lower risk of postpartum hemorrhage (aPR 0.31, 95% CI 0.13-0.75, p = 0.009) and composite neonatal outcome (aPR 0.66, 95% CI 0.49-0.88, p = 0.006). Group II had a higher risk of APGAR score at the 5th minute < 7 (aPR 0.75, 95% CI 1.49-51.29, p = 0.016). Conclusion: The number of previous cesarean sections had a significant influence on the mean PI uterine arteries Doppler between 20-24 and 28-34 weeks of gestation. Previous cesarean section was an independent predictor of postpartum hemorrhage and APGAR score at the 5th minute < 7. Pregnancy-associated arterial hypertension and number of previous deliveries influenced the risk of composite neonatal outcome, but not the presence of previous cesarean section alone.
