ABSTRACT

Increasing the energy content of animal feed aims to enhance productive performance and improve carcass finishing. However, when randomly performed, this action can result in gastrointestinal dysfunctions that impair performance. One way to avoid such dysfunctions is to supplement the animal feed with Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae, as a yeast culture or autolyzed yeast, on ingestive behavior, apparent feed digestibility, productive performance, and carcass traits of feedlot finished steers. Thirty-six ½ Angus x ½ Nellore animals with 369 ± 4 kg average initial body weight were used. The experiment lasted 133 days: 28 days for adaptation to the experimental diets and facilities, four evaluation periods, three of which with 28 days, and a fourth period with 21 days. The experimental design was a completely randomized block with three treatments and six replications. The treatments were a yeast-free diet (Control), a diet with yeast culture (7 g animal-1 day-1), and a diet with autolyzed yeast (7 g animal-1 day-1). The experimental diet consisted of 400 g kg-1 corn silage and 600 g kg-1 concentrate on a dry matter basis. Animals supplemented with yeast culture spent more time ruminating and showed higher apparent digestibility of dry matter (5.94 hours day-1 and 74.67%, respectively). Supplementation with yeast culture resulted in greater daily weight gains in animals from 0-56, 0-84, and 0-105 experimental days (1.661, 1655, and 1.667 kg day-1, respectively) than animals that received autolyzed yeast, and those that received no additive, as well as feed conversion was better for these animals. Daily and experimental carcass gains were higher for animals that received yeast culture (1.119 kg day-1, and 117.5 kg, respectively). Animals supplemented with yeast culture had greater fat thickness in the Longissimus dorsi, in the rib region, and greater subcutaneous fat gain throughout the finishing period (5.61, 6.25, and 3.04 mm, respectively). The supply of yeast culture is recommended during the finishing phase as it improves feed digestibility and promotes greater weight gain, carcass gain, and greater subcutaneous fat deposition.(AU)


Elevar o teor energético da ração dos animais tem por intuito potencializar o desempenho produtivo e promover melhor acabamento nas carcaças. No entanto, esta ação quando realizada ao acaso pode gerar disfunções no trato gastrointestinal que comprometem o desempenho. Uma forma de evitar tais disfunções é administrar leveduras Saccharomyces cerevisiae de forma suplementar na ração dos animais. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito do uso de Saccharomyces cerevisiae, como cultura de leveduras ou como levedura autolisada, no comportamento ingestivo, digestibilidade aparente da ração, desempenho produtivo e as características de carcaça de novilhos terminados em confinamento. Foram utilizados 36 animais ½ Angus x ½ Nelore com peso corporal médio inicial de 369 ± 4 kg. O experimento teve duração de 133 dias divididos em 28 dias de adaptação às rações e instalações experimentais, e quatro períodos de avaliação, sendo três períodos de 28 dias e um quarto período de 21 dias. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos inteiramente casualizados com três tratamentos e seis repetições. Os tratamentos foram: ração sem leveduras (Controle); ração com cultura de leveduras (7 g animal-1 dia-1); e ração com levedura autolisada (7 g animal-1 dia-1). A ração experimental foi constituída por 400 g kg-1 silagem de milho e 600 g kg-1 concentrado em base de matéria seca. Os animais suplementados com cultura de leveduras permaneceram mais tempo ruminando e apresentaram maior digestibilidade aparente da matéria seca em relação aos demais (5,94 horas dia-1 e 74,67%, respectivamente). O uso de cultura de leveduras promoveu maiores ganhos de peso diário de 0-56, 0-84 e de 0-105 dias (1,661, 1655 e 1,667 kg dia-1, respectivamente) em relação aos animais que receberam levedura autolisada e aos que não receberam nenhum aditivo, assim como a conversão alimentar foi melhor para estes animais. Os ganhos de carcaça diário e do período experimental foram superiores para os animais que receberam cultura de leveduras em suas rações (1,119 kg dia-1 e 117,5 kg respectivamente). Os animais suplementados com cultura de leveduras possuíram maior espessura de gordura no Longissimus dorsi, na região do costilhar e maior ganho de gordura subcutânea ao longo do período de terminação (5,61, 6,25 e 3,04 mm, respectivamente). O uso da cultura de leveduras na fase de terminação é recomendado, pois melhora a digestibilidade da ração e promove maior ganho de peso, ganho de carcaça e maior deposição de gordura subcutânea.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to determine the correlation between ingestive behavior, apparent digestibility, and residual feed intake (RFI) of finishing Nellore bulls fed a high concentrate diet. One hundred and twenty Nellore bulls, housed in individual pens, were evaluated in individual performance tests. The animals were fed a high concentrate diet (23:77 roughage/concentrate ratio). The animals were classified as low RFI, medium RFI, and high RFI. Data from ten animals from each group were used. Fecal production and nutrient digestibility were calculated using indigestible neutral detergent fiber as an internal marker. The feeding behavior was evaluated over 24 h by direct observation every 5 min. The most efficient animals (low RFI, 8.58 kg DM/day) consumed 27.62% less feed than the least efficient animals (high RFI, 10.95 kg DM/day). Animals with medium efficiency (mean RFI, 9.49 kg DM/day) consumed 15.39% less than high RFI. Nutrient digestibility coefficients were similar except for ether extract (P < 0.03) which was 8% greater for the high-RFI animals. No effect was observed for ingestive behavior (P > 0.05). Animals spent, on average, 3 h 28 min feeding, 7 h 32 min ruminating, and 13 h 40 min in idle time. In the present study, ingestive behavior and dry matter digestibility were not responsible for between-animal variation in residual feed intake in Nellore bulls fed a high concentrate diet.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the rumination time, activity index, milk yield (MY), physicochemical milk characteristics, and physiological indicators of pure Holstein (H) and first (F1- ½ Holstein × Jersey) and second-generation (R1- ¾ Holstein × » Jersey) of crossbred cows in a pasture-based system under the influence of different temperature-humidity indexes (THI). Twenty-two multiparous cows (H = 7, F1 = 5, and R1 = 10) were evaluated throughout 1-year period. Daily information on rumination time and activity index was obtained using the software HealthyCow24® and the daily THI was determined from data logger information. Weekly, MY, physicochemical milk characteristics, body weight, body condition score, and physiological indicators were evaluated. THI were grouped into six classes from safe (< 68) to emergency (≥ 84). Variance analyses were performed. There was no interaction between the genetic group and THI classes for any trait. The rumination time was longer for crossbred R1 and F1 cows than for Holstein cows. The activity index increased, and rumination time decreased as the THI classes increased. There was no difference in MY between the genetic groups, but crossbred cows showed higher milk fat and protein content. Our study indicated that the high THI increases the activity index and decreases the rumination time, MY, and the physicochemical quality of milk, BW, BCS, RF, and RT of the three genetic groups (H, F1, and R1).

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of replacement of corn with pre-dried cassava root silage (CRS) on intake, ingestive behavior, production and composition of goat milk. Five lactating Saanen goats were used, with 42.5 ± 4.2 kg body weight and production of 2 kg milk day-1, distributed in a 5 x 5 Latin square with five treatments: 0, 28.6, 58.0, 81.6 and 100% replacement of corn with CRS in the diet dry matter. Goats were monitored for five periods of 15 days each. The intake of dry matter, crude protein and neutral detergent fiber decreased linearly (p <0.05) with the replacement of corn with CRS. Feeding (348.5 ± 62.1 min.) and rumination (468.8 ± 83.8 min.) times were not influenced (p >0.05) by the replacement of corn with CRS, but the ingestion and rumination efficiencies had a linear increase (p > 0.05). Milk production (2.17 ± 0.45 kg day-1), fat (3.49 ± 0.42%), protein (3.11 ± 0.13%) and lactose (4.47 ± 0,11%) of goat milk were not influenced (p >0.05) by the replacement of corn with CRS. Therefore, it is recommended the total replacement of corn with pre-dried cassava root silage in the diet for dairy goats with an average production of 2 kg day-1.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Flavomycin is a non-ionophore additive little studied in finishing confined cattle. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of flavomycin on productive performance, ingestive behavior, carcass traits and biochemical parameters of steers finished in confinement. 32 whole steers, ½ Angus e ½ Nellore blood, from the same herd, with a mean age of 11 ± 1.5 months and initial body weight of 337 ± 6 kg were evaluated. The experiment was a randomized block design, consisting of two treatments and eight replications, as follows: Diet without flavomycin (control) and Diet with flavomycin (0.5 g FLAVIMPEX®80 animal day-1). There was no difference between treatments, the average dry matter intake of the animals was 10.03 kg day-1, feed efficiency was 0.158 kg, average daily gain was 1.593 kg day-1, apparent diet digestibility was 61.69%. The use of flavomycin was not effective in animal performance, and caused no changes in ingestive behavior and carcass traits of the animals. Total Plasma Protein, Aspartate amino-transferase and creatinine were lower for animals supplemented with flavomycin compared to the control group. In relation to the experimental period, there was a reduction in the levels of Total Plasma Protein, an increase in albumin, Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase and urea in cattle, but all remained within the reference range for the species.(AU)


A flavomicina é um aditivo que pertence à classe dos não ionóforos, contudo, com poucos estudos realizados com bovinos confinados em fase de terminação. Diante disso, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a eficácia da flavomicina sobre o desempenho produtivo, comportamento ingestivo, características de carcaça e os parâmetros bioquímicos de novilhos terminados em confinamento. Foram avaliados 32 novilhos inteiros, ½ sangue Angus ½ sangue Nelore, provenientes do mesmo rebanho, com idade média de 11 meses ± 1,5 meses e peso corporal inicial de 337 kg ± 6 kg. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, composto por dois tratamentos e oito repetições, sendo: Dieta sem flavomicina (controle) e Dieta com flavomicina (0,5 g animal dia-1 do produto FLAVIMPEX®80). Não ocorrendo diferença entre os tratamentos, o consumo de matéria seca médio dos animais foi de 10,03 kg dia-1, eficiência alimentar de 0,158 kg, ganho médio diário de 1,593 kg dia-1, digestibilidade aparente da dieta de 61,69%. O uso da flavomicina não foi eficaz no desempenho animal, assim como não trouxe alterações no comportamento ingestivo e melhorias nas características de carcaça dos animais. A Proteína Plasmática Total, Aspartato amino-transferase e creatinina foram inferiores para os animais suplementados com flavomicina em relação ao grupo controle. Em relação ao período experimental houve redução nos índices de Proteína Plasmática Total, aumento na albumina, Gama-Glutamil Transferase e ureia dos bovinos, mas todos se mantiveram dentro dos valores de referência para a espécie.(AU)

ABSTRACT

The objective was to evaluate the intake and digestibility of nutrients, ingestive behavior, and performance of goats fed with spineless cactus genotypes resistant to carmine cochineal (Miúda or Orelha de Elefante Mexicana (OEM). Thirty castrated male goats, without defined breed, aged 12 to 14 months, with an average body weight of 19.0±2.8kg, were distributed in a completely randomized design among three treatments (Control - Tifton hay, Miúda, and OEM) and ten replicates; the initial weight was considered as the covariate. The intake of organic matter (OM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) was highest in the control treatment, while the intake of NFC was higher in the OEM diet. Treatments containing forage cactus showed the highest digestibility of DM, OM, and NFC. The animals fed the control diet spent more time on rumination and total chewing, but the time spent feeding or feeding efficiency, and performance did not differ. The use of spineless cactus genotypes resistant to carmine cochineal (Miúda and Orelha de Elefante Mexicana) in a diet for goats, in the amount of 450g/kg of DM does not interfere with the performance of the animals and improves the digestibility of OM and NFC.(AU)


Objetivou-se com o presente estudo avaliar o consumo e a digestibilidade de nutrientes, o comportamento ingestivo e o desempenho de caprinos alimentados com genótipos de palma forrageira resistentes à cochonilha-carmim (miúda ou orelha-de-elefante-mexicana (OEM). Trinta cabritos machos, castrados, sem raça definida, com idades entre 12 e 14 meses e peso corporal médio de 19,0±2,8kg, foram distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, em três tratamentos (controle - feno de tifton; miúda e OEM) e 10 repetições; o peso inicial foi considerado a covariável. O consumo de matéria orgânica (MO) e de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN) foi maior no tratamento controle; enquanto a ingestão de CNF foi maior na dieta OEM. Tratamentos contendo palma forrageira apresentaram as maiores digestibilidades de MS, MO e CNF. Os animais alimentados com a dieta controle gastaram mais tempo em ruminação e em mastigação total, mas o tempo gasto com alimentação ou a eficiência alimentar e o desempenho não diferiram. A utilização de genótipos de palma forrageira resistentes à cochonilha-carmim (miúda e orelha-de-elefante-mexicana) na dieta de caprinos, na quantidade de 450g/kg de MS, não interfere no desempenho dos animais e melhora a digestibilidade de MO e CNF.(AU)

Under conditions of high temperature, humidity, and incidence of solar radiation, dairy cows use behavioral changes as a strategy to decrease the metabolic heat production at pasture. The objective of this study was to evaluate the behavioral and physiological responses of Gyr and Girolando (5/8 Holstein 3/8 Gyr, and ½ Holstein ½ Gyr) dairy cows submitted to environments with and without shade. The experiment was conducted at Embrapa Cerrados (Technology Center for Dairy Zebu breeds-CTZL), Brasilia, Distrito Federal-Brazil, with 48 Gyr and Girolando cows total in the lactation group, with low to medium milk production, in full sun or shade with Eucalyptus urograndis (267 plants/ha-1). The physiological and behavioral characteristics evaluated were panting score, superficial temperature, and time spent grazing, ruminating, and lying down. Other traits included skin and coat thickness, hair diameter, density and length, and predominant coat color. In addition, body measurements, such as body length, the height of withers, chest circumference, and shin circumference, were measured. Shaded cows had 34% longer rumination times than cows in full sun (p = 0.01). With a temperature-humidity index ranging from 79 to 83, the rumination time was 1.7 times higher in cows under shade (p = 0.01) during a 24-h period of observation. There were no significant differences in the grazing time between the environments, but lying time was 23% longer in cows under the sun (p = 0.01). The panting score was not influenced by the environment (p = 0.17). Girolando cows had a 35% higher panting score than Gyr cows (p = 0.01) regardless of the environment. The panting score increased two and a half times during the afternoon compared with the morning (p = 0.01). The surface and rectal core temperatures had significant differences between treatments and time of the day. Body measurements were not different between cows in both environments, but there was a difference between breeds. The use of trees in pastures with a silvopastoral system for dairy zebu cows is indicated to improve grazing behavior, as well as time spent ruminating and lying down.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the productive performance, dry matter intake, apparent digestibility and ingestive behavior of feedlot calves fed corn silage from the feed out face of trench silos with different types of sealing. The animals were divided into three treatments with four repetitions: Conventional seal - double-sided polyethylene of 110µm thickness; Double-sided seal - double-sided polyethylene of 200µm thickness; and Double seal - composed of double face polyethylene with a thickness of 80µm superimposed on a polyamide translucent vacuum film with a thickness of 20µm. The use of double face sealing provided 12.63% increase in average daily gain and improved food conversion by 0.62 percentage points. The apparent digestibility of the diet with double-face sealing system silage was 4.30% higher than the diet with double-face sealing silage and 11.00% higher than the diet with conventional sealing silage. It is recommended to use the double face sealing with 200µm polyethylene and double face sealing with 80µm thick polyethylene on top of a 20µm thick polyamide translucent vacuum film.(AU)


Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho produtivo, o consumo de matéria seca, a digestibilidade aparente e o comportamento ingestivo de novilhos confinados, alimentados com silagem de milho da porção inicial de silos do tipo trincheira, conservada sob distintos tipos de vedação. Os animais foram divididos em três tratamentos, com quatro repetições: vedação convencional - polietileno tipo dupla face, com espessura de 110µm; vedação dupla face - polietileno tipo dupla face, com espessura de 200µm; e dupla vedação - polietileno tipo dupla face, com espessura de 80µm sobreposto a um filme vácuo translúcido de poliamida, com espessura de 20µm. O uso da vedação dupla face proporcionou incremento de 12,63% no ganho de peso médio diário e melhorou em 0,62 ponto percentual a conversão alimentar. A digestibilidade aparente da dieta com silagem do sistema de vedação dupla face foi 4,30% superior em relação à dieta com silagem da dupla vedação e 11,00% superior à dieta com silagem da vedação convencional. Recomenda-se a utilização tanto da vedação dupla face com polietileno de 200µm quanto da dupla vedação com polietileno tipo dupla face, com espessura de 80µm, sobreposto a um filme vácuo translúcido de poliamida com espessura de 20µm.(AU)

Feeding behavior analysis provides information about the relationships between animals and pastures. Therefore, this review aims to describe some aspects of the feeding behavior profiles of both sheep and goats in grazing systems. The structure of the pasture is a key factor in the feeding behavior of grazing animals. The amount of feed consumed in a given period of time is affected by the number of meals, duration and velocity of swallowing, changes in grazing time, bite rate, bite weight, and quality of ingested forage. The different phenological stages of forage also influence the animals’ strategies to optimize their intake, which consequently changes their behavioral activities. Sheep and goats tend to be more selective than cattle, and young animals are more selective than older animals; this selectivity characteristicis one of the most important aspects to be observed in pasture management. According to the degree of selectivity, the animals will intake forages of higher or lower nutritive quality. In addition, the intensity and distribution of their daily activities (grazing, ruminating, and resting)are influenced by several factors, such as the availability and nutritive value of the pasture, its management, the animal activity in the group, and the predominant climatic conditions of the region.

ABSTRACT

This dataset is composed of correlated audio recordings and labels of ingestive jaw movements performed during grazing by dairy cattle. Using a wireless microphone, we recorded sounds of three Holstein dairy cows grazing short and tall alfalfa and short and tall fescue. Two experts in grazing behavior identified and labeled the start, end, and type of each jaw movement: bite, chew, and chew-bite (compound movement). For each segment of raw audio corresponding to a jaw movement we computed four well-known features: amplitude, duration, zero crossings, and envelope symmetry. These features are in the dataset and can be used as inputs to build automated methods for classification of ingestive jaw movements. Cow's grazing behavior can be monitored and characterized by identifying and analyzing these masticatory events.

ABSTRACT

The objectives of this research were to evaluate the effects of source and concentration of α-amylase-treated neutral detergent fiber (aNDF) from roughage on feed intake, ingestive behavior, and ruminal kinetics in beef cattle receiving high-concentrate diets. Six ruminally cannulated Nellore steers (408 ± 12 kg of body weight) were randomly assigned to a 6 × 6 Latin square design with six diets: 10% aNDF from corn silage (10CS); 20% aNDF from corn silage (20CS); or four diets containing 10% aNDF from corn silage and 10% aNDF from one of the following sources: sugarcane (SC), sugarcane bagasse (SCB), soybean hulls (SH), or low oil cottonseed hulls (LOCH). The parameters of passage and degradation kinetics were estimated based on a two-compartmental model with gamma- and exponential-distributed residence times. The nonlinear models were fitted by nonlinear least squares, and a linear mixed-effects model was fitted to all variables measured from the Latin square design that were related to intake, digestibility, digestion kinetic parameters, and residence times. Mean particle size (MPS) between roughage sources (CS, SCB, and SC) and coproducts (SH and LOCH) was affected (P < 0.05). Dry matter intake (DMI) was not affected (P > 0.05) by 20CS, SC, SH, or LOCH. Steers fed 20CS or LOCH diets had 16% and 20% greater DMI, respectively, (P < 0.05) than steers fed 10CS diet. Steers fed SCB consumed the least dry matter (DM). The SH and LOCH diets had lower MPS values (about 8.77 mm) in comparison to 20CS, SCB, and SC diets (about 13.08 mm) and, consequently, affected (P < 0.05) rumen content, ruminal in situ disappearance, nutrient digestibility, and solid fractional passage rate. Chewing time was affected (P < 0.05) by roughage sources and concentration. Lower values of distance travel inside the rumen (min/cm) were observed (P < 0.05) for the SCB and SC diets in comparison with any other diet. Except for SCB, there was no difference (P > 0.05) in rumen fill, among other treatments. Mean daily ruminal pH was not affected (P > 0.05) by 20CS, SCB, SC, and LOCH diets, and it ranged from 6.1 to 6.23. Total short-chain fatty acids concentration was affected (P < 0.05) by roughage source and concentration. Based on our results, we recommend that under Brazilian finishing diets, replacing roughage sources, except for SCB, based on aNDF concentration of the roughage in high-concentrate diets containing finely ground flint corn does not affect DMI.

ABSTRACT

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of raising the cutting height of the corn plant destined to silage production, in relation to the dry biomass production and possible influence on the performance of confined lambs. The treatments tested were: SM20: Corn silage harvested at 20 cm height. SM80: Corn silage harvested at 80 cm height. Cutting at 80 cm from the ground reduced the dry biomass production by 2.375 kg DM ha-1, but did not reduce the carrying capacity and improved the digestibility of the feed by 4.59%, besides improving the carcass conversion, carcass transformation efficiency and carcass yield by 1.04%, 4.68% and 2.20%, respectively for animals fed silage of corn cut at 20 cm from the ground. Production of silage harvested farther from the ground provides smaller volumes per area, but increases the quality of the final feed and improves the performance of the animals.(AU)


O experimento foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito de elevar a altura de corte da planta de milho destinada a confecção de silagem, perante a produção de biomassa seca e possíveis influencias no desempenho de cordeiros confinados. Os tratamentos utilizados foram. SM20 Silagem de milho colhida a 20 cm de altura; SM80 Silagem de milho colhida a 80 cm de altura. A realização do corte a 80 cm do solo reduziu a produção de biomassa seca em 2.375 kg MS ha-1, porém não reduziu a capacidade de suporte e melhorou a digestibilidade do alimento fornecido em 4,59%, além de melhorar a conversão de carcaça, eficiência de transformação em carcaça e o rendimento de carcaça em 1,04%, 4,68% e 2,20%, respectivamente, em relação aos animais alimentados com a silagem cortada a 20 cm do solo. A produção de silagem colhida mais distante do solo proporciona menores volumes por área, porém aumenta a qualidade do alimento final e melhora o desempenho dos animais.(AU)

The apparent digestibility of the diet containing yeast culture was higher than the control diet (69.69 versus 68.32%, respectively), and its use did not interfere with the feeding behavior of the animals. Based on our findings, supplementation with yeast culture may bring positive results in the initial feedlot phase.(AU)


O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o desempenho; a digestibilidade aparente da dieta; o comportamento oral ingestivo, o qual ocorreu em dois momentos, as características de carcaça, sendo avaliados componentes integrantes e não integrantes da carcaça; bem como o efeito que a cultura de leveduras pudesse promover perante a temperatura periférica de rúmen, casco e temperatura corpórea, sendo aferida por meio da temperatura retal. As dietas foram constituídas em uma constante relação de 50% de volumoso (silagem de milho) e 50% de concentrado. Utilizaram-se no experimento 36 novilhos, ½ sangue Angus Nelore, com idade média de 11 meses e peso vivo médio inicial de 339,5 ± 10kg. O uso de cultura de leveduras promoveu maior consumo diário de matéria seca (8,83 contra 9,35 kg dia-1) e consequentemente melhor ganho de peso diário (1,143 contra 1,325kg dia-1) na fase inicial do confinamento, não havendo diferença nos demais períodos. A digestibilidade aparente da dieta que continha cultura de leveduras foi superior à da dieta controle (69,69 contra 68,32%, respectivamente), e seu uso não interferiu no comportamento ingestivo dos animais. Com base nos resultados do presente estudo, a suplementação com cultura de leveduras pode trazer resultados positivos na fase inicial de confinamento.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Objetivou-se avaliar a probabilidade de fatores inerentes ao animal e ao alimento aumentarem o tempo de alimentação de fêmeas leiteiras ao longo de um dia. Para isso, foram avaliados todos os artigos publicados no Brasil entre os anos de 2000 a 2018 com acesso via plataforma SciELO e Google Acadêmicos. Como palavra-chave para busca dos artigos, foi utilizada a seguinte frase: “comportamento ingestivo de vacas leiteiras”. A partir dela, foram acessados 34 (trinta e quatro) artigos, dos quais, para entrar na base de dados deveriam informar o grupo genético e/ou raça dos animais, o peso das vacas e apresentar resultados de consumo e características bromatológicas da dieta. Após essa triagem, foram selecionados 9 (nove) artigos. Para análise das variáveis foi utilizada regressão logística, através do procedimento LOGISTIC, disponível no SAS. Os parâmetros foram avaliados pela estatística de razão de chances (odds ratio), em que a mudança nas chances de maior tempo de alimentação foi estimada a partir da função de acréscimos nas unidades das variáveis regressoras. À medida que se elevou o peso vivo, percentual de europeu e consumo de FDN, houve incremento nas chances de maior tempo destinado a alimentação. O consumo de matéria seca (CMS) reflete de forma inversa sobre o tempo de alimentação, à medida que ele se eleva há redução na chance de as vacas destinarem maior tempo a alimentação. O tempo de alimentação sofre influência de características relacionadas ao animal e a dieta.(AU)


The objective of this study was to evaluate the likelihood of factors inherent to the animal and food to increase the feeding time of dairy cows during the day. For this purpose, we evaluated all articles published in Brazil from 2000 to 2018, retrieved through SciELO and Google Scholars. The following search term was used: “ingestive behavior of dairy cows”. Thirty-four articles were retrieved. Articles reporting the genetic group and/or breed of the animals, cow weight, intake data, and bromatological characteristics of the diet were included in the database. After this screening, nine articles were selected. The variables were analyzed by logistic regression using the LOGISTIC procedure available in SAS. The parameters were evaluated using odds ratios, in which the change in the likelihood of longer feeding time was estimated from the function of unit increases in the regressive variables. The percentage of European breeds and NDF intake increased with increasing body weight and there was an increase in the likelihood of longer feeding time. Dry matter intake has an inverse effect on feeding time; the time cows spend feeding decreases as intake increases. Feeding time is influenced by characteristics related to the animal and diet.(AU)
